You're all good! Thank you for the work and for investing in the sheer musical quality of ABBA to share with us. Lovelight and Gimme! Gimme! Gimme plus Summer Night City are really must reacts and thus I really prefer the extended album. Highlighting Summer Night City and Gimme gimme Gimme especially. And even more especially Gimme Gimme Gimme as a next tier song (and disco track, but with one of the most recognizable electro introductions) that is perhaps equal to Chiquitita, although a very different sound and story that is being told.
Would you possibly be able to play those just so that you get the full period experience of this album before you get onto the stellar Super Trouper? Which is my favourite - what share craftsmanship (and perhaps listen to the full extended album of that also - I can't remember if there was a shorter initial one), although every album is great and I have favourites for different moods and times.
I really enjoy your takes on the various ABBA albums and would really be interested to hear your analysis of the ABBA Live at Wembley Concert.
This is arguably the one ABBA album with the most underrated songs on it. Songs that should've been hits but weren't.
"As Good As New". "Angeleyes". "Kisses of Fire". And of course "If it Wasn't for the Nights".
Any other artist would kill for just one of those songs.

"Angeleyes" is next to a few others one of my favourite Abba songs. And it does wonders when you're heartbroken.
indeed this applies more to this album than to any other album... i was critical about the singles choices back in the day.... though I am a total Frida lover, Agnetha was full force in front on that album.... even in the joint sung songs... sometimes it's nothing without Frida, but especially on Angeleyes its so high pitched it's all about Agnetha's voice....
Kisses of Fire. The look on your face when the intro ended and the song picked up. Priceless.
Since you missed out on ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme’ from the extended album release, you can add this single to your list of ABBA video clips to react to. It has a cool, relaxed video clip that I think you’d appreciate. The single, though, as you’d say, is a ‘banger’!
This one would have benefited from the subsequent editions of Summer Night City & Gimme Gimme Gimme to the reissues. Your now famous head wobble would have loved them.
Voulez Vous shows ABBA as masters of their craft. At times it can even seem mathematical. Bjorn and Benny are almost bragging with their spit and polish here. With Super Trooper you can feel them trying to shake things up a bit by playing with a songs structure. No longer tethered by the verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus, they get a bit of a more free flowing stance which in turn allows the song’s story to begin taking precedence. The Visitors continues this progression even further. Their earlier albums, Waterloo and ABBA, are true charmers. I call them the Parakeet albums because ABBA is mimicking dramatically different genres including reggae, acid rock, glam rock, 50s girl group, as well as folk. Deeply interesting, sometimes borderline disturbing, but always utterly charming. You may find occasional moments of boredom in the later albums but not in the earlier albums. The will keep you guessing in the best way possible
"Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)" released four months after the release of the album and "Summer Night City" relased before the album kinda belongs here...
_Voulez-Vous_ might be my favourite ABBA album. It's just got that kind of vibe. Amazing from beginning to end.

I always felt that “Lovers Live a Little Longer” deserved to be a single. Annifrid’s smouldering vocal was instantly my favourite back in 1979.
Forgot just how incredible this Album was, banger after banger.
ABBA are musical chameleons with the ability to process musical influences from classical music, different countries and styles and to make something unmistakable out of them. Striking in this album is the Greek song "I have a dream" and the French-Arabic "Voulez-vous".
I love the "Voulez-Vous" album. But I can't imagine it without the bonus tracks ("Gimme...", "Lovelight", "Dream world" and "Summer Night City"). They are such an amazing tracks, so happy and dramatic at the same time. The vocals sound great and the vocals layering is perfect. That disco and pop sound mixed together with classic ballads ("I Have A Dream" & "Chiquitita") makes this album (for me) a wonderful piece of art.

As a Abba fan since I was a teenager 40 years ago, I must say it’s really quite fun watching your facial reactions ... especially when you heard great hits from this album. And it’s fun to watch how the songs put a smile on your face.

ABBA's sexiest and most glamorous album. ❣️🔥 This and The Visitors are the two albums I have played the most through the years. Even though they are very different.
Frida’s voice on The King Has Lost His Crown is beautiful, so silky and creamy. I love the whole arrangement of it, the huge plucked arpeggios that start it, the guitar runs - so amazing! Björn is the lead vocalist on Does Your Mother Know. If you want a longer version, you can hear the live version on streaming services. There’s an album called Live at Wembley which is a full recording of the gig I saw on 10th November 1979. Aged 11, stunning! Anyway the live version of DYMK has a guitar instrumental.
Wow, great reaction. You reacted to my favorite ABBA album (and considering the quality of ABBAs output that's saying something). This is a stunning work, where practically all tracks could've been hit singles.
What a brilliant album ! I didn't even know all of the songs it contains. I think this CD is a must buy for me; thank you for letting me discover it through your eyes :-)
How good it is to see you again with another review of ABBA's discography
"Voulez Vous" (1979) is ABBA's sixth album, it has some specific context details:
1) It was the album that ABBA took the longest to make, more than a year
2) has the only song ABBA partially recorded outside of Sweden; on a trip Björn and Benny went to the Bahamas, and I think they recorded "Voulez Vous" at Criteria studios in the United States
(then the vocals were recorded in Sweden)
3) the recording process coincided with the separation as a couple of guitarist Björn and blonde singer Agnetha at end of 1978, a mounths after Benny & Frida wedding
4) the song "If it wasn't for the nights" was composed by Björn in the middle of his relationship crisis
5) in the recording process ABBA is invited to the Concert for UNICEF and there ABBA premieres his new song "Chiquitita", with royalties donated to UNICEF
(which replaced "If it wasn't for the nights")
6) for its great success in Latin America within a few months ABBA recorded "Chiquitita" in Spanish.

7) "I have a dream" is only ABBA song that incorporates third parties (children's choir)
In general it is known as the ABBA disco music album, it is a 'eurodisco'
but his most successful tracks were the ballads "Chiquitita" and "I have a dream"

Absolutely agree that ABBA (1975), Arrival (1976) and The Album (1977) are the top 3 albums. Those are their peak years in terms of creativity and energy. I would rank 'The Visitors (1981) 4th, Super Trouper 5th and Waterloo 6th. Voulez-Vous would be 7 and Ring Ring 8. I haven't decided where Voyage fits in yet, but I alike all their albums. Voulez-Vous wasn't served well by releasing Chiquitita as the first single. I love Chiquitita but people were looking for a dance song as the album was a dance album. "If It Wasn't For The Nights" couldv've been huge if it was released first, paving the way for Chiquitita and Does Your Mother Know.

@@nickchristoforou7850 I guess they decided that Chiquitita should be the first single because they previously launched Summer Night City as a single (it's a disco song) and they were not satisfied with the results (although it reached top 1 in Sweden). In fact, they didnt include this song in VoulezVous album. That's why, I think, they choose Chiquitita as a first single.
Love this album, everyone of its 10 tracks could easily have been a single and of course we has two new stand alone singles before (Summer Night City) and after its release (Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!). No Number 1's in the UK from this album but plenty did hit number 1 in other countries. Glad you noticed with the ABBA album opening tracks, they're very, very strong. By this stage I think ABBA treated every song they recorded as if it were to be a potential single.
Another fantastic reaction, mate .. Like you, my mind is blown by just how consistently great ABBA was with their recordings .. Album after album, full of one high quality song after another .. In my listening experience, other than the Beatles, only ABBA has such a magnificent output of a high number of albums with virtually no filler .. Keep the ABBA reactions coming please .. I'm loving them !
Actually, one could say that ABBA had better song production values, better voices and better looks than the Beatles.
Kisses of Fire - a short song that has some of the longest held notes sung. Agnetha and Frida's nod to the then-current fad of long held notes, especially by Donna Summer and Barbra Streisand. Discover Babs' "The Main Event/Fight" 12" or album version, and No More Tears (Enough Is Enough).
When you react to the Donna Summer songs, please do not waste your time (and ours!) on the short, radio 45 rpm edits. Go first to the full length album or 12" single versions. You get the complete experience that way, and get to hear ALL the vocals; all the lyrics and production. Most Disco songs were 6 - 9 minutes long, as that was the need of the dance floor. You can google more on wikipedia and other sources as to why the songs were longer. It was an experience and a cultural moment. I hope you are enjoying exploring what my generation took for granted. I know that today's Top 40 is rather sad in comparison. Enjoy the ride! We only wanted to get up and dance!

Thank you for your reaction. This is one of my favourite ABBA albums. They can do pop , disco, schlager and all these songs still sound so fresh. Great.
Initially, ABBA donated 50% of their profits from Chiquitita to UNICEF, but in 2014 they agreed to wave 100% of the song’s royalties to UNICEF. Up until 2014, the song had raised around $4 million dollars. The sum donated up until today is undisclosed. Cher pledged to donate an additional $1 million when she released her cover.
That whole Unicef concert is now on RUclips. My inner 14 year-old really loves watching it again!

As Good as New is indeed a banger. Voulez-vous is ok but over-rated IMHO. Frida's vibrato in I Have a Dream is amazing. The lyrics are lovely. The choir section is sickly (contentious I know, but not for me). Frida's voice in The King Has Lost His Crown is so soulful and rich. This is an under-rated song for sure. Chiquitita is one of favourite Abba songs, and the whole piece is perfect in so many ways. I suspect you liked it too. Kisses of Fire lulls us into a false sense of gentle pop then rocks. Well done Blizzardz yet another banger of a reaction. Thank you. (And now I understand why you pinned a note saying you'd made this vid before Hallowe'en. Gruesome!)
Sweden, Sweden, Sweden, what talents you create! What is it with this little country in the North? Answer: one of their treasures is / has been that they have a natural aptitude for singing and for music in general. It is in their genes. See for example "allsång på Skansen", Stockholm, where they meet and sing together once a week in the summertime. And their people's soul goes very, very deep. ABBA was one of the very first artists to be known outside of Scandinavia. A big hug from Norway, neighbour of Sweden.
I always liked how in Chiquitita the lead passes so smoothly from Agnetha to Frida at the end of each verses and chorus that you don't even notice it

There are plenty of iconic hits in these albums
First album is the try this or that and with songs from late 1960s early 70s and some of the other the influence of Bob Marley since he was the one that made public succes in Sweden ,like 20 000 ins amall tivoli like Gröna Lund
This IS the ABBA I fell in LOVE with, the power and intensity and excellent woven together lyrics! Yes, Yes, I know they're MUCH older now and in a different place, BUT I soooo wish they would have tapped into more of this ABBA magic, yep tone it down somewhat, but maintaining a bit of that brilliant edge to it. Don't Shut Me Down is excellent and replicates the all round wonderful dynamics, but many of the other new songs are really simple of lyric and some even embarrassingly so.

It's so amazing to see and hear your comments about the members and the songs! You live in so intensely which I like. It can not be easy to judge when all the songs on the album Voules -Vous are so enormously good ... Think what songs and lyrics and arrangements Abba did. Unfortunately, such music is no longer made. Now there is so much technology and artists who can not sing ... the voices are mixed ... So thank you Abba for the music ❤️⭐⭐❤️
Chiquitita was a huge hit in Canada, but few of us knew what the word was or what it meant, as we are not a Spanish-influence society. However, there is a small bird that is very popular with children as it visits winter bird feeders and has a distinctive call that it is named for, the Chickadee. Having the lyrics talk about "I see you've broken a feather" simply added to the notion. It was the perfect song to add to the Unicef Concert for The International Year Of The Child. We all called it The Chickadee Song.

Since you're also impressed with the outro song "KISSES OF FIRE",there is a very popular BBC TV SPECIAL from that era called"ABBA IN SWITZERLAND".Its a magical experience to watch Agnetha's close up seductive facial expressions while she started wispering "Lay your hands on my chest...so you hear every beat of my heart..there is nothing at all...that can keep us apart...touch my lips... close your eyes and see with your fingertips...things that you do ,and you know i'm crazy 'bout you oooo..." in the first 40 seconds of the song.Someone could easily understang why so many of us were madly in love with her.I still get heartbeat shots whenever i watch this.Do try it. You'll get hooked and you''ll understand even more the dynamics of this special song.

Enjoyed so very much to hear and see your reaction and your thoughts. I grew up with ABBA but just recently I discovered their less known songs. I'm blown from their talent and versatility. One of the best groups ever for sure. Probably one of the most underrated as well.

By the way you can now listen to the two songs in a row of Does Your Mother Know and leading into Hole In Your Soul live at Wembley in 79. One of the highlights of a great full blooded live concert. There's so much electricity in this performance! And all the live slow downs, energy, song speeding up and slowing down and stage presence full of whirlwind energy and dancing that you would expect from a great live act. The best quality live bit of these two songs in terms of music and video quality was uploaded this year. One of the songs they sung for the first time live at that concert is actually used as the release song track for Super Trouper (The way old friends do - which is also a great live watch once you have heard that album).

Chiquitita is my favorite song in the world. It is MY song since I was a baby. For me, one of the most beautiful songs ever made. And they donated all the profits to UNICEF. Love ABBA ❤️

As you say, listening to the older stuff may well make you see the new album in a different light, like admiring a view with, and without, sunglasses. Same view, but coloured differently, if that makes sense. Kisses of fire was the missed single for me.

A 45' minute video about Voulez-Vous and not once did you mention the words "funky" and "disco" (which I think is the word you were looking for to describe this "classical meets pop" genre)! It was so refreshing to see a young person reacting to this album, using none of the clichés we, older guys, have grown accustomed to hearing in reviews over the years.
I remember being already familiar with the singles, when I bought Voulez-Vous in 1993 at age 15, and the album track that instantly stood out for me was If It Wasn't For the Nights, with the opening track not far behind.
Watching you react to Voulez-Vous brought me back to those days, which was a really moving experience, thank you for this video, you got yourself a new subscriber.

Really enjoyed your review. I like the way you say Voulez Vous. You say it correctly, of course, but your accent gives it a bit extra. Anni- Frid and Agnetha are on fire on this album, especially when harmonising.
I recommend that you react next to their eponymous 1975 album - "ABBA". This is another astounding record, filled with the best pure rock'n'roll songs they crafted in their career.
Great thanks Blizzardz, again competent reaction with good details, inspired me old man a lot. I'm not a disco fan, but had forgotten, how good this album is, specially the title track I 've begun to play it again and again.

When We danced is one of the few short ABBA song I love. As you said Bizzardz about Does... I'm agree (great longer Version Live Wembley 1979, goes directly in Hole On My Soul, a highlight in this concert; also Live bangers long version of Summer Night City (sadly the short as Bonus track on Voulez vous) and long version of Gimme ...., almost the whole concert with perfect verions and full enery). Often in the short ABBA tracks I miss something, a an instrumental part. I don't know: Kisses Of Fire (a 200% hit is often not one), When All Said And Done, Just A Notion and others.
You have done a honest fair comments about Voyage. I could'nt reply. On Friday and Saturday , every time I heard I Can Be That Woman, I had a little "nightmare". It's one of 4-5 masterpieces of Voyage. Then a reactor explained that Bjorn was inspired by the biography of the country singer Tammy Wynette (died 1999) and made a fictional story; a little bit similar as the soldier during the Mexican revolution in Fernando.

Great review once again from the Blizzard,,,,,,, Gotta be one of their best Lp's. They had grown personally and professionally. I think the 4 of them were all in great places with in them selves during this time,, Agnetha was dating ready to re-marry her bodyguard also called Bjorn , Bjorn had already remarried an Agnetha look-a-like and Frida and Benny were doing great as a couple. Now as a fan you could absolutely feel and see that they were really loving being in ABBA during this period and you can tell from all their promotional videos and appearance's at that period of time...A fantastic Lp great performances form Agnetha and Frida

But, just out of curiosity, why didn't you stick to the original album track listing of "Arrival"? "Arrival" is the last track on the original album. However, you also included the bonus tracks, "Fernando" and "Happy Hawaii". "Fernando" is one of ABBA's best songs ever. However, it was never included on any of their studio albums. "Happy Hawaii" was never released originally. And listening to it you can hear that the verses have the same melody as "Why Did It Have to Be Me?". As for "Voulez-Vous", leaving out the bonus tracks means leaving out "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme (A Man after Midnight)", perhaps their best song ever, never released on any of their studio albums, "Summer Night City", never released on any of their studio albums, and "Elaine", never released on any of their studio albums. Are you planning to react to the bonus tracks of the studio albums later? I really hope so, because otherwise you miss out on a lot of great material. As for other albums, YES, OF COURSE, PLEASE go on reacting to their earlier albums as well. Is there any particular reason why you started with "Arrival"? Despite the album title, it wasn't their "arrival", so to speak. It was their fourth studio album. I'd very much like to see you react to their debut album, "Ring Ring" (1973), the second album, "Waterloo" (1974) and the third album, "ABBA" (1975) as well. And start with "ABBA" (1975) and work your way back. You will notice what an incredible development they had. The four of them are all geniuses.

This was one of THE 1979 albums to have in Canada. As well that year, Olivia Newton-John's Totally Hot, Supertramp's Breakfast In America, ELO's Discovery, Bee Gee's Spirits Having Flown, Diana Ross' The Boss, and Donna Summer's Bad Girls. If you like classical orchestral disco, wait until you discover Donna Summer's MacArthur Park.
Don't forget, Gimme Gimme Gimme and Summer Night City were promotional tracks for their Greatest Hits Volume II, and for various reasons are now included on the expanded Voulez-Vous cd. As well, check out the 12" Single of Voulez-Vous, remixed to be longer and more bass-heavy.
Did you notice how sad the lyrics are on If it wasn’t for the nights ?compared with how up the music is .What a contrast .Magnificent song . Whole album is one of the best .

I *totally* agree with you re: the first track on an album being so important. (Check out the album Purple Rain by Prince & The Revolution sometime for an example of that.)
True story: the first time I listened to this album I really did drop my jaw at the title track. The lyrics, the astonishing vocal layering (duuuuuh... it's ABBA), and those violins. Just spectacular.

As Good As New - by the way, I don’t know this album at all, so this is all fresh to me…. You are already getting into this tune, right from the get-go! Definitely a dance tune. “Expect the unexpected!” I like your characterization. “Butter on bread.” Nice! I agree with your comments regarding the importance of opening tracks. Very true (it’s not just you)! 2). Voulez-Vous - Is that Swedish? What does it translate into? Another upbeat dance tune. Lots of synthesizers. I can see you cutting a rug to this one, too! You like it a lot! 3). I Have A Dream - “Uncultured swine!” 😂🤣. No, B, you are far from that! I must be the uncultured swine because I am not familiar with this tune at all! 🤷♂️. It kind of sounds familiar, but I am not sure where to place it. I loved the look on your face when you got the realization and said, “Yeah!” Classic B! 4). Angeleyes - Is that supposed to be one word, B, or two words? Did you mistype it? Anyway, another uptempo dance tune. Nice bass work. Nice analogy to the person on the street that you may or may not know. 5). The King Has Lost His Crown - very prominent bass at the outset. I think the chorus has that classic ABBA sound. Talk to me, B, about what these lyrics mean. 6). Does Your Mother Know - WTF, B?! 😂🤣. Too funny! Was that your Halloween costume?! 😂🤣. Curious to know why you broke out that costume head. Ok, you just said it’s Halloween! Hahahaha. Like you said, Why Not?! 7). If It Wasn’t For The Nights - Most of this album contains uptempo dance tracks. This is another example. I’m getting a late ‘70’s Bee Gees vibe on this one. This tune could have been on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack! That introduction is definitely late ‘70’s Bee Gees. I’m even more convinced. 8). Chiquitita - Unlike you, my friend, I am not at all familiar with this one. Mid-tempo ballad. You are loving it! Love that piano build up at the end! Nice! Almost like a march. I applaud along with you, B! “Fabulous,” indeed! Yes, I recognize your Fleetwood Mac “Chain.” Well done, B! Excellent analysis of this song, B. Man, you nailed this one! 9). Lovers Love A Little Longer - More of that ‘70’s disco Bee Gees sound on the intro, I think. It’s the way the strings play that remind me of it. Mixing classical with pop. Interesting observation. I agree that the majority of these tracks you can dance, too. 10). Kisses Of Fire - Oh my! Your look when the track kicks in 😂🤣. It was like you were dream sleeping and then suddenly awakened. Your look! Wide-eyed! It made me chuckle, and it was quite charming. Overall Comments: I am not sure when this album was released, but it sounds like it was the late ‘70’s music. It just had this Saturday Night Fever / Bee Gees vibe. Have you seen that movie, B? If so, maybe you can see what I mean. Anyway, another enjoyable time spent with you. You made my night! The sound you're hearing prominent in Angeleyes is the mythical "Dream Machine" the Yamaha GX-1 Synthetizer one of the first analogue polyphonic synth. Only a few of them exists in the world and Benny has one of them. Their price back in the day were over $50 000 and now it is estimated that costs arround $250 000. Benny used a lot this synth in the new Voyage album.
It's Björn singing. Benny only sang one Abba song - "Suzy-Hang-Around" from the "Waterloo" album (1974).

It would be nice if you could do your whole album posts, without the editing. Sometimes I miss hearing some of my favorite parts of the songs. And I believe that if you’ve got people willing to listen to the whole thing anyway, and they’re staying with it, they’d stay with a long version too! Regardless, great stuff!!

Perhaps one of the easiest albums to tell Agnetha's voice from Fridas voice. Agnetha,a soprano, takes leadvocal on Chiquitita, As Good As New and Kisses Of Fire, While Frida, a mezzo soprano, leads on I Have A Dream, The King Has Lost His Crown and Lovers (Live A Little Longer). All the other songs are joint vocals by the women. Bjorn takes lead on Does Your Mother Know, he usually had one song on each album to add variety but that became less and less over the years. To this day Benny has only sung leadvocal once on an ABBA track, 1974's 'Suzy-Hang-Around'. Really hoping you react to 'The Visitors' album and then go check out the first three ABBA albums, 'Ring Ring' (1973 and originally crediting ABBA as "Bjorn, Benny & Agnetha, Frida" because it was recorded before they took the name ABBA - Infact it wasn't released in the UK until 1991 officially), Waterloo' (1974) and 'ABBA' (1975). Voulez-Vous for me is a great album. Often cited as being ABBA's disco album, which it really isnt as it crosses so many genres, these songs burn into your brain.
OP can you tell me whAt version of “Angeleyes” you were listening to in this video? I don’t recall the end having that amazingly long hook section. I love that hook. I think it is their best hook. Their best hook of many bests.
Angeleyes was the track that pushed out Just A Notion from this album.
Would recomend you that after your finished the albums you listen to ABBA Live at Wembley from 2014 to hear how they sounded live and hear the differences from the album recordings
Even type of live makes a difference. Pretty near perfect when singing live in a studio or TV programme, but a bit lost when on the big stage in front of a crowd. I think they were only really comfortable in the recording studio, except possibly Frida.
@@rdwulf6289 yes. They did not like touring at all and have talked about it many times that they did not see them self as good stage artist. Annifrid was the only one that liked it more

I listen to Angeleyes on disc and slightly pull the headphones out of the port. Creates an echo effect that takes the song to another level.
Lovelight and Gimme! Gimme! Gimme plus Summer Night City are really must reacts and thus I really prefer the extended album. Highlighting Summer Night City and Gimme gimme Gimme especially. And even more especially Gimme Gimme Gimme as a next tier song (and disco track) that is perhaps equal to Chiquitita, although a very different sound and story that is being told.
Would you possibly be able to play those just so that you get the full period experience of this album before you get onto the stellar Super Trouper? Which is my favourite - what share craftsmanship (and perhaps listen to the full extended album of that also - I can't remember if there was a shorter initial one), although every album is great and I have favourites for different moods and times.

"Lovers (live a little longer)" seems to be one of ABBA's most inharmonic songs they ever made. I never got into it too much. Nonethless I really like the puzzle of melodies they put into it. I really don't know if it worked better with no lyrics at all. There's a chance it would.
