I had no idea he was a dancer. At first I thought it was cheesy as hell, but then it grew on me. It gave the movie even more of a charm. You can tell the amount of fun and passion that went into this movie. Everyone had input, everyone had fun, and everyone enjoyed making it. That translated over, so instead of being this weird movie, it became a masterful cult classic.

I love this movie very much but seeing it all these years later I realize that the whole thing can be summed up with "there is always a bigger fish". Every single time a new baddie is introduced they are beaten/killed almost immediately in the next scene by a new fish. Still one of my favorite movies ever.

This movie came out in 2004 and so far i don't think any action movie can be compare to this. It's just such a complete package, a perfect blend of action, comedy and romance that can make you watch it over and over again. IMO, that's what makes this movie a masterpiece. I think i've been watching this movie at least once a year since 2008 lol.

It was founded by Wang Yaqiao 王亞樵(18870207－19360920) in 1921 and they were hitmen organization, similar to Murder Inc., and killed the Shanghai Police Commissioner Xu Guo-liang 徐國梁(1876－19231110) and Green Gang boss like Du Yuesheng 杜月笙 had to paid them for peace. After Chiang Kai Shek took power, Wang didn't get along well with KMT and Chiang ordered Dai Li to send secret services to assassinate him in Guangxi in 1936. I never really noticed before, but there's a whole story thread in this opening sequence that's all about how Brother Sum, while a charismatic leader, is also an idiot. In contrast, his burly mustachioed second in command -- who might easily be mistaken for mere muscle -- is actually the real brains of the Axe Gang. He pulls off the precision axe throw that prevents the Crocodile Gang leader from escaping, he catches the loaded shotgun stupidly thrown by Brother Sum as part of one of his spontaneous dances, and finally he's shown to be the one actually running the Axe Gang's illegal enterprises while Brother Sum practices choreography in the back room. He's not a good guy, obviously, but if you wanted to limit the chaos and mayhem caused by the Axe Gang, he is absolutely the LAST person you would want to remove from their leadership. Even in Pigsty Alley, he only became a threat to the inhabitants because one of them decided to lip off to him in front of his crew, obliging him to respond. All this to say, Sing setting in motion the events that get the vice-general of the Axe Gang killed by the Coolie really underscores how badly he hilariously screws up everything for everyone in the first half of the movie.

I never really noticed before, but there's a whole story thread in this opening sequence that's all about how Brother Sum, while a charismatic leader, is also an idiot. In contrast, his burly mustachioed second in command -- who might easily be mistaken for mere muscle -- is actually the real brains of the Axe Gang. He pulls off the precision axe throw that prevents the Crocodile Gang leader from escaping, he catches the loaded shotgun stupidly thrown by Brother Sum as part of one of his spontaneous dances, and finally he's shown to be the one actually running the Axe Gang's illegal enterprises while Brother Sum practices choreography in the back room. He's not a good guy, obviously, but if you wanted to limit the chaos and mayhem caused by the Axe Gang, he is absolutely the LAST person you would want to remove from their leadership. Even in Pigsty Alley, he only became a threat to the inhabitants because one of them decided to lip off to him in front of his crew, obliging him to respond. All this to say, Sing setting in motion the events that get the vice-general of the Axe Gang killed by the Coolie really underscores how badly he hilariously screws up everything for everyone in the first half of the movie.
