Why would it take 120 days (4 months) to fill a job position?

Luis Martinez Damn. See, I’m trying to get a job at Hot Topic and given the stores can be small, they can’t hire a lot of employees at a given time, so it feels fairly exclusive and competitive, especially since I’ve heard they do group interviews.
How long after putting in an online application should I call the retail store and how often? I don’t want to be pushy nor lackadaisical about my desire to work there.
