I believe I saw the original post. Can't say I saw something that need to be remanded but then it wasn't me that owned any of it. I will say, you and Ten Years After were the first concert I ever saw. It was in Cleveland, Ohio at the Javits Center. Black Oak Arkansas were supporting you. I will say, I have a Gibson ES-335 because of Alvin but you were my teacher. I've been a bass player for 55+ years now. Played those vinyl recordings over and over until I got those licks down. Yup, did burst a blood blister in my day wnd and broke a string while playing too. Just kept on playing until the song finished. Just wanted to say thank you, Mr. Leo Lyons. Thank you!
Also Leo you can get a similar effect by driving your pointed fingers repeatedly into a bucket of sand that’s another martial arts exercise.👍 great vlog see you soon Leo god bless 🙏🏼
Hello Leo, and greetings from Southern California, thanks for reposting this video as I hadn’t seen it originally not sure what happened there lol I look forward to buying and hearing the new album as I’ve been a fan for decades, I was fortunate to see TYA during your reunion tour in what was it 2007 or 08 and it was wonderful Thanks for the stories and the tips for musicians and Hope to see you again here if at all possible.
Hi Leo, been doing similar to you with surgical spirits for many years now prompted by chemistry student background. Loved what you do since Woodstock film so big time fan here across the pond. As Curtis Mayfield once said in song, keep on keeping on.
I had a blood blister from playing bass around 1970. I just popped it & kept playing. Don't think Surgical Split was around then. You could certainly use it at the bass stop. Taking a leak on your fingers at the bus stop would get everyone else to leave the stop and make it your own until arrested.
Very funny. Seriously. Surgical spirit is not only meant to stop blisters but hopefully also toughens up a blister and stops it tearing. It's been available for possible hundreds of years.
@LeoLyonsMusician Had no idea. Thanks for the info. I hope I don't play that hard any longer. Any in ear monitors you strongly recommend? I'll post as a question if this reply doesn't get seen.
I always loved this video, as a fellow musician what I always did was quickly submerge my fingers into a cup of boiling hot water, of course you don’t leave them in the boiling hot water because obviously it’ll burn your fingers. Just submerge the tips and quickly take them out and this relieved the soreness and toughens up the skin. AGAIN, I’ll have to try the isopropyl alcohol technique because it does seem very simple
Hi Mat. Thanks for watching my video and for your post. I'd urge you to try Isoproply alcohol. It's got to be easier and probably safer too. Regards Leo
@@LeoLyonsMusician thanks Leo! Also I know or I’ll assume that Spoonful is a favorite song for TYA to perform live? I was wondering how the bass part to TYA version was played
Hey Leo! Sorry to keep nagging you with my questions but… in some photos I see you have a pick on the headstock of your bass, do you play with a pick or are you strictly a finger style player?
HiMat . In answer to your question. No worries. I'm strictly a finger player. although I've used a pick occasionally to get a more scratchy sound. For example on the breakdown bit on 'I'm Going Home' It's fine to use either method but I much prefer using my fingers. Regards Leo.@@Mat_Gomez23
Best wishes,Leo. And thanks for the insights. BTW- I believe you may have addressed this on a previous video, but not sure. What type of strings do you use on your basses? And do you prefer flats or rounds?

I used to do that when much younger. Not to be recommended for a musician
I watched you as much as Alvin, you are an amazing bass player. Never missed your shows. God speed my friend.
I appreciate that. Thanks for the kind words.
You’re quite welcome, as soon as I get my scanner working I’ll send over some photos.

Hi Anthony. I use 45,65,85,105 Bass Centre Elites.
Mostly I prefer rounds for the attack but I've used flats too. It depends on what works best with the music you play.
Thanks for sharing Leo
My pleasure
