yo man you've come so far from random fiverr dude to renowned tap bassist, absolute champ
Thank you!
@@CharlesBerthoud Put all this good music on an album, it'd be like Polyphia level
Don't sleep on this man's slap game 😂
All well deserved too! Awesome to see!
Absolutely!
The most amazing part of this video is his ability to find 500 drummers that showed up on time
🤣
Upvoting on my uncle's behalf, a drummer who would never miss a chance to tell a drummer joke.
I mean, he still is, but he was too.
Wait,… where’s the gig, I got my invite !!?
It's fake lol
@@lifeunderthestarstv green screen for sure
This is why the rhythm is so fucking important in music. You cant have this type of synchronision without it. Drummers and bassists are the leaders of bands and you cant tell me otherwise
my man got a bot to reply lol. Also I agree with you, except... GUITAR SOLO MAN!!!!
Well I would also venture to say you are only hearing a couple of them. You would get a really muddy sound if you mic'd all those people at once.
@@drm3259 cheers
why so aggressive
@@tanman3028 your mama
The only problem with this is that it is too short! Awesome sound
Yep, need another ... 20 minutes? Yeah that's a good start, right? :D Love this jam.
Exactly! We need longer videos!!!
Agreed.
@Juggernaut you're not wrong about that.
That's what she said
I like that charles is just walking between them instead of on a podium somewhere, makes the whole atmosphere very friendly.
I agree. He almost looked nervous I thought. Imagine being that good and still being nervous. Comes across a pretty humble.
hey.. so as good as this is, slightly turned off by the uber-ego of it all. you also might want to duck some of those hi-mids, and re-watch your favourite victor wooten/jaco pastorius/les claypool tutorials. but yes, you are good.
I love that drummers can be so in time that the only real way to tell that there's 200 playing at the same time and not just stadium reverb is the different sizzle characteristics of everyone's crash cymbols. What an awesome experience
They have to ask be wearing in ear monitors because, right?
This is all studio produced. Bass and the drums.
Yeah. Theyre all clearly synced up with a click in their ears. So cool. It sounds just like one very big drumset.
Thomas Ning rist98 Well, it's NOT like every drumset is miked up, obviously only one is.🙂
@@ThomasAtzinger Both by the sound and by the fact that the video includes it, they do have mics set up so that they are recording the sound of the whole group of drums, not a singular set. They have condensers set at an overhead position such that it captures the whole group of drums. Ofc, they also have close mics on at least one set of drums, to beef up the sound a bit. But the overhead condensers (I can see 4 of them spread across the whole group of drummers) are the bulk of the sound you hear.
how the hell can you count when there is another countdown going on!!! pure respect so cooool
everyone has a click on their headphones
1:16 that almost turned very Tolkien! love it
Charles is the definition of "saw his chance, and took it"
That Davie Fiverr video in hindsight is my favourite music-related RUclips video because of what it led to.
And damn, what a guy. Luck can only bring him so far, but his consistency is just unbelievable.
Saw his chance? No, he worked his butt off for many hours a day for years.
+ his skill is second to none
He can play the bass as good as anybody ever
Like honestly, i dont even think its an exaggeration
I think chance isn't the biggest part, he would've worked really hard to have those skills, Davie wouldn't have found him without his work,
Bet he would get that success even if Davie didn't reveal him to us some years ago,
I'm really happy for Charles, he deserves it 🤘
from fiverr to a performance on a stadium... i can not describe how happy i am for you!
Thank you for your support over the years!! 🙏🏻
@@CharlesBerthoud Congratulations Charles ❤️ from 🇮🇳
You absolutely nailed it with this comment, Charles deserves all the success he has gotten and then some. Amazing performer and consistently humble and inspiring, never feels like you're watching someone show off, always feels like watching someone jam and push themselves. Amazing commitment.
Does he have a standard fee for live solo stadium performances?
@@CharlesBerthoud i actually subbed when i saw the zelda music u made hope u do more of them:)
Thank you Charles. I never noticed this button before. Just want to show my appreciation!
You are my go to RUclipsr when I need a lift to the spirits or energy...your talent and funkiness are second (maybe even third) level. Very much appreciate your art and looking forward to hearing (and learning) more from you. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with everyone. Enjoy the day!

This is a perfect example of going all out, without getting annoyingly excessive. Just right. PERFECT! Your musicality is just on an entirely different level. This is literally the best bass solo I've ever heard. I could listen to this 24/7.
Spot on!
Love seeing the comradery amongst musicians. No matter the instrument, playing style, or anything else. We all love it just the same.
The way the drummers sync is just so epic
I hope you realize that you're one of the greatest bassists of all time; no matter what kind of mainstream success you achieve I'll always be happy to know I got to live during your time and see your talent and grace
I´m sure he is aware.
One of the greatest bassists of all time is Wojtek Pilichowski. Even Charles recognized his superiority.
Lol, no.He is a very good bass player, but dont put him there. He first needs to constantly come up with albums and compositionsso good that will be recognized as "standards" for bass guitar players(and not only if possible) and influence generations. After that play them live at the largest festivals . Or, come up with a unique touch , or a unique technique. As much as I respect Charles and love what he is doing, and get inspired by him from time to time, all of this was done by wooten and Abraham Laboriel on bass, some of it by Stanley Jordan on guitar , Marcus Miller etc.. There are bass players in the world with insane musical awareness. They can like hear a 13/16 groove full of non-functional harmony, and play it at first hearing without preparation, and get the harmony aswell. Not only that, but they can also improvise with flow on the spot on top of it. There is still a long road until he should be considered one of the best players of all time....bruh..so long
@@sneakcr3144 He is.. don't crushing someone's opinion. The title of 'one of greatest' is absolutely NOT for everyone.
@@sneakcr3144 Thank you. Good information.
Charles has become so influential that he now has his own opera
Awesome bass playing. First time I have ever heard a Bass instrument played like this. Good idea to getting allot of drummers and other guitarists to Jam along with you.
Keep up the great videos. Take care.
As someone who is learning drums its so inspiring to see so many drummers enjoying their passion, I cant wait to be in their shoes jamming out like that
Charles, you are honestly the best bass player I’ve ever heard. There isn’t anyone more deserving of slapping that thing in the middle of a giant sports arena than you.
What about Davie504

I played with Rockin' 1000 in Florence in 2018. It was insane, but that's on another level! Congrats man!
Nice, yeah it's such a cool experience to be part of!
@@CharlesBerthoud will it happen again in the future?
I really like your compositions and the way you play them. As a solo instrument, you are one of the few musicians that can make the bass really shine in all aspects.
Wow... these guys are having a true blast with their talents, efforts, and skills... they're living the life
That's amazing Charles. Simply majestic! The Rockin' 1000 is such an awesome time for music, and the uniting of musicians. Cheers!

Not only was that played flawlessly, the song itself was amazing. 10/10. Excellent job. Looks like a cool experience.
Cant wait for 200 slap basses with 1 drummer
Can't get over how good this is. Totally addicted. What a bass player and with those drums 🤯
drummers faces showed just how stoked they were to play alongside you. Love the solo - slowed it down with a less-is-more kind of vibe, sank into this serene and blissful little melody. Again, very well done.
rite! damn some of them was wet wishing to drum for his band roite.
drummer at 0:56 is playing the wrong nstrument, that's a bass face.
Too bad he forgot to play the clip with the 200 drummers. Must suck for all these people.
👧💋💜💓💛💙💗
Holy shit. 200 drummers just gave you respect in Brazil. That's insane.
We need an extended version of the same.. What a repeat value this piece of music has got

Davie may SLAP you for this comment, but you're probably not wrong
This is a dangerously funky live performance. You are amazing Charles.
You are absolutely incredible. Would love to see a video of you gigging with a band in case you still do a bit of that.
Thanks for making the music and the bass technique progress so much.
Love the groove!!! Bassists and drummers have this thing going that's just too cool to explain! ❤️
Killer sound, Mr. Berthoud, and seeing those 200 drummers played completely in sync is so satisfying.
Nothing better to do I'm sure, be on time, klicktrack maybe hi🙌
This is studio sound, it aint live
Smooth as ever. What an awesome experience to be part of. Congrats.
this is honestly such a vibe. absolutely loving it.
Damn this sooo good to see. Charles deserves this and much more.
Keep going, Charles!
A true musical moment with a true musician. You never over play. You lay it down like it should be. Continued good luck in your career.
ur playing is impressive, but whats even more impressive is how all of those drummers held the tempo perfectly
Edit: Okay yall, obviously charles is one of the best bassists in the world and hopefully we all know that, im just saying that hes playing a solo while 200 drummers have to be in sync with one another, and the fact that they did that is pretty damn impressive as well
Actually I would say Charles playing was more impressive 🤣
Its kinda the drummers job to keep the tempo 🤣
It's called a click
The problem in a stadium setup like this is actually the limited speed of sound, which fundamentally makes it impossible to hear all drummers play in sync from any given position, no matter the means of synchronization (be it by metronome click on headphones or listening to the direct neighbors).
@@nkronert that means some were nicely out of time together then
This sounds just amazing. This guy is so talented! I'm addicted to this song.
There are thousands of technically brilliant musicians who play as though music is a vehicle to show of their ability and do so at the expense of musicality.
This is an example of a musician who is using his instrument to serve the music, explore it and elevate it.
I love it!
This guys is just insane.....cool that everyone got together...hopefully bands and friendships were formed.
they were, and I'm sure a few enemies as well. the World would be boring without enemies!
The audio quality of this production is fantastic.
Except you can barely hear the 200 drummers.
@@schmuckytheraiderbear5043 I'm here for the bass! 😉
I've gotta disagree honestly. It sounds like we're just hearing his bass in his headphones and the slight bleedthrough of what should be a powerful cacophony of drumming filling the space. I wish I could hear an accurate recording of what it sounded like there.
@@yittmashups Fair. I meant the bass is crystal clear. I don't watch this channel for the drums so I heard some percussion and was satisfied. Maybe he can remix it so it's more balanced?
@@schmuckytheraiderbear5043 Agreed. Sounds like a few drum kits heard at most. I'd like to hear raw camera audio.
Oh my god, I have to rewatch it every week. Am I really missing this?😆

Watching the drummers vibe and smile as they work their craft is so satisfying 💙 the reverb effect is so minimal with how synced they are! And excellent bass complement 😊
This piece should be at least twice as long, if not three times longer. What a fantastic piece of music! And this guy's Talent is over the top.
Need full version! Pls:3
This is absolutely amazing! Putting aside the excellent bass for a moment; the groove is so tightly played by the drummers I had trouble telling that these were real drummers and not overdubs at times.
This is absolutely amazing, the warm and happy feeling I get inside of me looking at all these musicians unite just can’t be described!
That surprised voice saying “He’s very famous” at the end of the video cracked me up
I’d like to hear a single cam/mic/cell phone version of this too. Hopefully someone recorded it as well to hear all the drums
I've seen many talented bassists in the world, but you are pure art. I am glad this world has you to entertain all of us. Keep doing it !!
You have in short order become the greatest bass player in history. Your slap technique is monstrous, but it’s your musicality and warmth that is inspirational. Keep at it Charles, I suspect that having reached the stars, you’re heading for the galaxies beyond. Sensational.
Not the greatest. One of them though
@@gropadooper8903 how you meassure even great?
You can know 1 millione techniques, but a discography of compositions which are so good that are considered standards and influenced generations is what puts a player among the greatest of all time.Charles is a very good bass player. There are alot of very technical bass players that can do all that Charles is doing. And i am not saying that in order to take away something from Charles , but please, he has couple of universes to go until he reaches the realm of Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, Stanley Clarke, Mark King, Jaco Pastorius, Hadrien Feraud, MAlaman or Anton Davidyants
Man I swear this might be the first bass solo I ever heard on youtube but god damn it's so good
