I've noticed the immense success of these black led movies in recent years but to think a single studio was behind the financing of these movies is shocking. Also it's a little embarrassing for other more established studios to not see the current trend.
One key lesson to be learned from Charles King's career is that you must tell your own story, nobody can do that for you. Here's why: Initially, they won't want to, and can be convinced. But after being convinced, they'll still get it wrong cos it's not their story so they don't know it. They haven't lived through it, and are ill-equipped to tell it. In conclusion, minority groups need to mobilize and tell their own stories instead of expecting majorities to do it for them. This also applies to the individual. If you find you're being misrepresented or underrespresented, the solution is to improve your communication skills and find more ways to express yourself. Noone has lived your life, nor can they read your mind. You bring a unique perspective to the table so do your best to present it.
Too many triggered people who are also the least affected by the R word, yet get PTSD-sque sort of rage by the sheer mention of the R word or even merely saying Black. Brain go brrrr!
A powerful and informative portrait. Profiles like this should be required viewing and part of the curriculum in schools all across this country. I am inspired!
Listen to how this man achieved success. He worked his way up the ladder for 8 years to get to where he wanted to be. So many people these days jump from job to job instead of putting in the work.
Thank you Bloomberg. If society keeps seeing black people in movies as the bad guy or criminal being pursued by the white hero, you can not blame them for profiling each other in streets on the basis of what they see in the stories told on their tv sets, that also by the way, delivers the news. No wonder why we have Karen's policing black people everywhere. If they keep seeing East Indians or Arabs as the suicide boomer of the movie in the theater - then what do you expect? Not all black people are genius at sport and music alone. Some are intellectuals, leaders, problem solvers, visionaries, scientist, nerds...etc...I have one at home...they too deserve a platform, not just for their benefit, but for the benefit of society. Again, thank you Bloomberg for your service to society as a whole with this piece. You always deliver.
I really miss going to the movies. The last movie i went to with my cousins is The Exorcist back in 2000. It's 1970's horror movie but i think it was a remake...
@@har795 no no. It was The Exorcist 1973 Director's Cut. The 1st ever The Exorcist. You know? Spider walk, mountain dew spit, big white eyes and spinning head.
Nice discovery, i'll check Mr King's body of work. I like that he applies diversity within diversity by adding LatinX actors . This should be a lesson to LatinX across america , they should include Black actors also.
Glad these movies are shifting in this direction of being truly artistic and able to garner a larger audience and be taken seriously. Before we mostly only had blackslpoitstation films BET specials and Tyler perry movies which IMO didn’t ever do that black/non-white communities justice. Not saying those movies don’t have their place, I’m just personally glad to see what King is doing happening!
@Blood in the Water But it does set the expectation for how the industry works as a whole. The movies that do make money finance the ones that don't. That's how it goes.
@@flippantfishtaco3132 wow dude, that’s exactly what new stories are, and do, is tell the stories that weren’t being told. But I thought focusing on certain stories and amplifying one group of people was the problem that we were complaining about? Now we’re doing the very thing we were mad at white folks for doing?……I’m glad my people’s voices are finally being heard but if this is ok shouldn’t the other one be ok as well? Genuine question, and I did just check myself and I still have the same question…..
Which Charles D. King film(s) have you seen? Which genre/projects would you like to see from MACRO next?
All of them
black panther and Barbershop. I'm going to put Mudbound and Judas and the Black Messiah on my list though those look great.
ALL OF THEM, THEY ARE ALL GARBAGE. id like to see macro tackle black supremacist groups such as the hebrew brotherhoods and others, huge issue...

Very informative comment bro. 👏🏽
super well written !
This is very accurate 👌🏿
Dude has been in the shadows making some serious moves.
Literally the invisible hand in my life…
This is so inspirational! Thank you for telling Charles D. King's story, his business and his accomplishments!
It's interesting that he avoids to say the word black. He chooses his words carefully. He is doing great work
Not true. Rewatch the video.
@@keith1689 yeah at the end he says it in a quote. He completely avoids using it in a regular sentence and uses the words diverse, or color

what i see is a black guy doing serious CRITICAL THINKING. LAZY PEOPLE WANT TO UNDERMINE HARD WORK AND CREATIVITY.
Super dope piece, and extremely motivating!
I'm from Brazil and it's sad to hear americans saying "Latinx"
Great video though
I didn't know it was a negative term. Even though you don't have to, I would really appreciate if you could share why it makes you sad?
Yeah I was having a good time watching the video, and then he throws that term out UGHH
Im not american ,but even I thought it's just a word that is used to describe someone of latin origin despite their gender

As long as there's a great story, told by a great group of storytellers, count me in! My soul starves for great stories 🙏
Especially in the age of lazy remakes and sequels. It's so rare to find great stories coming out Hollywood these days

We should do this for Asians as well.
That's what US is about. A melting pot. Putting people from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities represents the actual US.
