I know I responded to this a long time ago but, thinking about it again, I realize I was unaware that Xander ever lost an eye. How did that happen? Also, Xander's "power" was raw courage. He was, by far, the bravest one of the bunch, not only being in the thick of it with them, despite having no special abilities but, on more than one occasion, not merely risking his life, but offering it that someone else might live.

I love the little touches. When Xander mentions Oz, Dawn smiles like she's remembering him. Obviously we've never seen it but in the new timeline, she did know him, she'd have the memories of him. Like how Faith just knows her when she comes back. It's little touches like that which make the whole ‘Dawn has been there from the beginning’ thing plausible.

This scene is part of the reason I love Dawn. She started out super bratty and annoying, but she was 14, of course she would be. From what we saw of Buffy before Sunnydale, she was KINDA the same way. But as Dawn matured, she not only understood herself, but the role she played in Buffy's life. Dawn was no longer the key, she wasn't being hunted, she was just normal. That alone was something she had to come to terms with.

I feel like she not only realized the role she played in her sisters life but also her own and the world. Idk if Buffy would have the will to live without Dawn. I'm the oldest of my siblings & I don't think she could've without her baby sister. I couldn't without mine.

Dawn in Buffy and Ahsoka from the clone wars followed similar story arcs - at least in the perception, their characters gave off. They both began quite irritating and maybe a little whiney. But they grew and eventually became characters that made the show and would be/were incredible missed if they weren't in it again.

    • @tmage23
      @tmage23 4 года назад +4

The problem Dawn starting out is that they wrote her as a much younger character. Gradually they course corrected but she starts out acting more like a 10 year old than a 14 year old.

The relationship between Xander and Dawn is pure magic, always has been. They were the ones to really look up to on the show, the ones who resembled the audience the most. They always went all out. They didn't have powers or abilities, but they fought anyway. Because it was the right thing to do. That's true courage - not having the power to change things, but still going out and making it happen.

Absolutely. I was so disappointed when Willow got powers, because up until then she had been the perfect example of a real-life hero, with no powers except intelligence and a kind heart. None of us are going to have superpowers like Buffy, and they are not what make you a good person: witness her treatment of Spike. Saving lives means nothing to me unless you actually care to make those people's lives better: it is much easier to save someone from dying than it is to live with them and support them through everything, even when they don't deserve it.
I was glad when Dawn became the 'new Willow' of the series. This is a great scene!

I think it had some of the best speeches. And thematically I looove the fact that after battling the demons of everyday life, facing death and faith (pun intended) and basically overcoming her own childhood and becoming an adult, Buffy had finally fight herself. I guess it was quite ambitious because there was less of the "demond of the week" and quite a lot of lose ends to tie up and new characters to introcude. And just a very, very full house.

People refer to his toxic masculinity towards Buffy and Anya but I gotta say that the reason why he said and did those things to Buffy was only because he loved her but he had that kind of jealous or overprotective way to show it but he always apologized to l the women (trust me you won't get that from men in real life! Men usually ghost you and never say sorry) and thanks to Anya he grew up and realized Buffy was like a sister just as Willow! I love Spike but I got the point when he was furious when he tried to r** Buffy, he's just protective over the women in his life and I find it really beautiful and I wish I had that kind of friend or boyfriend! If we think about those moments when he argued with Buffy or left Anya at the altar those were his insecurities and fears emerging but I can see he just loved all these women in his life, this speech to Dawn proves that and he matured a lot!

Xander is that “ordinary extrodinary” person. The good guy true friend who is always to be counted on. They played it down on the show but Nick Brendan was an athlete before taking this role and he is physically very capable.
He’s the one who saved Buffy’s life at the end of S1. He saved Willow and the world at the end of S6. I think my favorite episode of Xander’s is when he stops a plot by a zombie gang to blow up the school.
Meanwhile the rest of the “Scoobies” are on some other “major mission.”
We never get to see what the team is actually fighting and it matters not one bit. We end up at the end with Xander, not bragging about his own adventures which anyone would understand.
Especially as he’s so constantly pushed aside at this stage as ‘unable to help’.
Nope, instead Xander just congratulated the group and says nothing. Which then flipped my head. Because I believe at least from that point on, if not before we have to question what Xander was doing in any given episode when not on screen.
For all we know he handled every non-apocalyptic event in Sunnydale. So maybe the wry smile about the cape was more deserving than we even know!

@@benloudermilk8525 I think Dawn should be a Watcher to the new Slayer in a sequel series. See, here's how you avoid redoing Buffy, but keep it simple and draw a connection to the old series: the TV show is called "Slayer" and Michelle Trachtenberg as Dawn Summers becomes the watcher of the new Slayer.

In a show where everything depends on the choices of those who have the power, Xander demonstrated how important it is not to evaluate yourself by others.
Even if you feel like a loser. Even if you will never save the world. Even if you will never be in the spotlight. You must always remember your qualities that you often ignore out of envy or helplessness.

I know one of the whole central relationships, at least in the beginning seasons, was the relationship between Buffy and Willow but to me, Xander and Buffy became the dream team. Buffy kept Xander from being normal, encouraged him to be powerful and brave and Xander kept Buffy grounded, reminded her of her humanity and of why saving the world a thousand and one times matters and why it was important. I love this show no matter how much the last two seasons really pissed me off.

I just wish i could have been alive to watch it from the start i so desperately wish i was born in the late 90s just because time was simpler and shows like this came out. Lol my life is shit and has been for the past 3 years ive been dealing with depression and anxiety and extreme loneliness. Alot of stuff happened to lead me here i just wish i could take it all back. But buffy man buffy is the only show that keeps me hangin on my emotional connection with these fictional characters is actually fucking scary.

Believe me - this comes from a person who turns her life into shit and rambles from time to time but comes out of it every time))) I also deal with depression half of my life, I hear you, this is real shit.... And there is nothing wrong if the show makes you feel better, who cares that this is fictional? It's art and art can help people deal with their personal traumas and difficult periods. I am also currently rewatching these clips cause I feel lonely... I guess, there are many people like us out there doing the same thing this exact moment) So, it's okay, nothing scary, just a coping mechanism

The Buffy fan base is made up of compassionate people who have always been on the outcast side of life, which is why we love Buffy and all her odd friends. Each one of us would fit right in. Joss did an amazing job at creating a really cool home for us weirdos. Treat your depression like a demon. I do this an it helps me. Sometimes at the gym when I’m hitting the punching bag I pretend it’s the demon of doubt, or demon of depression, and BEAT ITS ASS. I also do this out in an open grass field. I think about Buffy fighting and I battle all my demons as if they’re physically there. Sleeping with him is more about Buffy feeling anything at all.) and sleeping together. I don't get why people "hate" Xander, the more I do rewatches the more I like him and I honestly wish I had that kind of male figure in my life, this speech is 💕!!! Always in the shadow of someone better and wishing to step in but never fully able to, The hero always the strong one who knows what to do and saves the day like Buffy is here. Xander just the normal guy who somehow got involved in things while trying to prove he can be the hero all the while realizing they the only normal one while everyone else has powers and or gets stronger over time and seems to be useful. In times like this, it's old little shows like this that shows perfectly what a real man is.
He is gentle, compassionate, observant, and isn't afraid to point out the special little moments that everyone else might overlook.
It was a very nurturing thing to do. Men can be nurturing.
This is a perfect example of what a man can be, without having to be muscle-bound, or the "lead character", as it were.
Sometimes, subtlety and just getting things done in the background and being a quite strength for others has a strength all on it's own.
This was a beautiful scene, and one I had forgotten about.
Sad that writing like this doesn't happen anymore.
We need it more than ever right now.
