    "Hot Garbage" is the ANTI-MEP....great strokes and absolutely horrid inconsistency. In fact, I've never seen anybody with such nicely grooved strokes play so erratically. Beautiful serves consistently into the net, swinging wildly for big winners, etc etc. He's the perfect victim for MEP.

      @@dadsfreetimeclassicgaming1220 you are right. But it is contradictory saying great strokes when the player cannot technically produce consistency. How about saying “traditional” that sounds better😉 I am a 4.5 with traditional strokes and I would never call my strokes great

      I give MEP more than enough credit on reading his opponents' strengths and weaknesses and his cardio fitness. It's just that MEP's opponents nearly always beat themselves through unforced errors, not as a result of MEP's winners. If MEP is gonna float serves, returns, moon balls and folks can't do anything with them, that's on them.

      @@joniozq Respectfully, I disagree and I stand behind my prior comment/analysis. HG had no ability to hurt MEP with his backhand, which he mainly sliced. He was clearly uncomfortable at the net, which MEP exploited constantly throughout the match with his dropshot. And, unfortunately, because HG wasn't well conditioned, his already somewhat "hot and cold" style of play, revolving mainly around trying to serve big and use his speed/athleticism to run around his backhand and dictate with his forehand, turned into an avalanche of unforced errors.
      I would categorize HG's level as 4.0+.

  • @tomsd8656
    @tomsd8656 3 года назад +4

    I played dinker like MEP before. You have to receive serve close to the service line because he doesn't have pace, only under spin. If you're too far back receiving, you're forced to run to the net and hit up on his serve . The same goes with every other shot. You need to be inside the baseline, take his shot as soon as it bounces, hitting back deep. You need to rattle him as much, if not more, than he frustrates you.

    Agree with previous commenter “Anti-MEP” for sure. If I was his coach some pointers I would give him. 1) Watching your opponent is as important as watching the ball. Better than average foot speed but below average anticipation and reaction to what are really undisguised drop shots. 2) develop a ground stroke speed that can be maintained and kept in play. Every shot doesn’t have to be a home run. 3) Get rid of this large gap between your two hands when hitting a two handed backhand. It wouldn’t be a big problem if you were trying to hit a crafty control type backhand a la Fabrice Santoro. But your trying to hit a free swinging backhand. This gap between your hands hinders a truly free swing. 4) On the serve your left arm should drive down and help the racket shoulder come up and around. Like a see saw. Yours stays up way to long and never drives down. Watch vids of any pro serving and you’ll see what im talking about. Their toss arm is the first thing to move. It will drive down as fast as the racket arm moves up. You get really good racket head speed in spite of being severely handcuffed. Your serve could be scary if you work on removing this handcuff and unleash your potential racket head speed. 5) remember in tennis style over substance rarely succeeds for long. Being able to hit percentage shots is more important than trying to hit impressive ones. 6) Slice backhands and volleys are like layups in basketball. Your expected to make them most of the time especially when not pressured. A lot of errors on these shots are unacceptable. 7) Potential to play at the 5.0 or higher level is there, easily. But without changes in technique and especially the mental approach to tennis you’ll top out at being a average 4.5.

    Hot Garbage has potential but a few things I noticed 1) Backhand: is a gaping hole in his game that needs better preparation/forward weight transfer. He gifted MEP dozens of slow/short slices often in the center of the court (especially as serve returns) that constantly gave MEP the upper hand even though MEP's serve is slow and relatively easy to attack or at least neutralize. Absolutely imperative to put those slices and backhands deeper in the court and I would not try to go for as many drop shots or winners with the backhand as it was backfiring 2) Serve toss: flicking the wrist during the toss had him chasing the ball and probably caused a lot of double faults. A toss overhaul would probably be worth it long term and in match he should redo the bad tosses and not try to hit such a big second serve.

    I think YHG's gameplan falls short at 9:24. He's trying to score with that forehand, but he really should just be using that forehand to set up a volley. That's where a lot of the errors come from. I don't think I'd beat MEP, but I know that for a guy like me who isn't exactly the world's most consistent baseliner, I'd have to approach the net with every opportunity I get even if I miss 4 volleys in a row.

    Ever notice how MEP takes a short ball and just punches it with his slice forehand, usually just to the right of center of the middle of the court....and it rarely comes back, and when it does, it's usually an easy putaway. This is such an easy shot to hit. I do the same thing. I see so many lesson players wind up and try to hit a topspin approach off the same kind of ball, and it's rarely as effective...why not learn how to hit the forehand slice approach? Especially on low balls.

I am a high school tennis coach and my players that hit it in consistently tend to win a high percentage of the regular 18 matches they play each season. They are the true monsters on the court. Nobody wants to play a lean mean human ground stroke machine who can run all day and still hit in the court.

    • @ashleywalls4097
      @ashleywalls4097 3 года назад

      @@thomasmedeiros5722 Correct. HG has great strokes but doesn't really know how to set up points and really play percentage tennis. When I first started I hit the ball great, but I lost a lot to more experienced players. Took me a long time to really develop the feel for setting up points. Playing the score. Finding an opponent's weakness, hiding my weakness. It really is a thinking man's sport if you do it right.

    Well... You want to play your style of match or you want to get sucked into your opponents game and lose? I'd rather lose playing my game. You need to have plan A, plan B and plan C. "Hot garbage" had great first few games and got sucked into MEP's style and got eaten alive... That is what I observed here. Throughout my junior and even D1 career, I faced similar to MEP style players at least few times a season. You have to overcome the non pace balls but boost up your confidence even though you lost few points. Once you lose your confidence and play your opponent's game, then you are on your way to lose...

    If I played MEP, one thing I would try to do is move in on his bloopers and pick them out of the air on a fly. When he hits those high, deep, nothing balls, just step in and bloop them back up in the air deep to his side. If you don't, you have to move your body with quick steps all over the place, retreat, and not know exactly how his ball will bounce. It can wear you out. If he bloops one that is a little short, go in and hit a swinging volley....these take just a little practice. The key is to aim high above the net and swing hard with a high follow-through. you can angle it off or hit it straight ahead...either one is effective.

    "You're Hot Garbage" is the definition of low intensity, poor footwork, no commitment and weak mentality. Bear in mind, because MEP will punish you if you are not mentally prepared to be in long rallies. To be a good player you need to overcome these players even having good strokes because players like MEP have the most effective strategies as they understand the game better then other. Players like MEP have my utmost respect because they are the ones that set the benchmark between an advanced recreational player and a good recreational player.

    4.5 vs 3.5 "Looking at my watch, around 10:00 is when we take the garbage out". Sick!😆 Garbage Man obviously has taken lessons and been in some type of program because his serve and stroke mechanics are very sound. Although he ran down some really good balls and got to the net consistently, he telds to stand straight up and doesn't move after he's hits a stroke. He also does not track or watch the ball most of the time while he is stroking, which accounts for all of the unforced errors. He should develop a top spin second serve to to cut down on all of the double faults too. All of these things add up to a 3.0 - 3.5 player. A good coach and the desire to become better could bring his level up.. He appear to be still very young.

    Ben reminds me of a Tim Wakefield who was a knuckle ball pitcher back in the day he had 0 speed but no one could hit that knuckle ball . Ben is the same way . Absolutely no pace absolute junk it’s hard to return a ball when there is no pace so you have to compensate and make up the speed off of your racket and that’s when the errors come into play . By that same token you don’t want to get trapped into their style of play because then you are done . Power doesn’t work against the guys angles is huge against players like this.

    On his groundstrokes, in his effort to not overhit, HG is not bending his legs as much as he normally does when he hits his hard topspin drive, and hard backhand. I think if he got low and looped the ball a little higher, he could avoid some of the massive "under-hitting," or holding back from hitting normal strokes, that's required if you try to rally with MEP. Gotta bend the knees MORE, I think, to be ready to dance around the "nothing ball" from MEP that will require subtle adjustments before the hit (due to similarity to a knuckleball).

  • @thomasmedeiros5722

    About 6 minutes into the match you can see that HG is not going to have the consistency it takes to hang in the match with MEP. You just can’t afford to make ground stroke errors like that against a super consistent opponent. I think the final score reflects this early analysis and final outcome. In the meantime MEP is just getting stronger in his placement and change of spin. I do believe he has also improved his game in the forecourt when he is drawn forward.

    This is a great learning opportunity for HG, especially to have it all captured on video. It's nice to have feedback, even if most of it is critical. I am sure HG will bounce back and become a very good player in the coming years. I agree with everyone's criticisms. One area he could develop further is anticipation. MEP is a very consistent player, but not a quick one. It is not difficult to read when he is about to do a drop shot. HG reacted too late to MEP's drop shots. Also, for HG's own drop shots to work, he will need to either have a better disguise or make that stroke quicker. It is too easy to read, even more so than MEP's. I hope HG takes away many positives from this. It is certainly not easy to play with the weather and with the camera on.
