    Very helpful, Paul!
    If you want your 4Runner to last 200,000 miles, change your oil every 5,000 miles. If you want it to last 300,000 miles or more, change your oil every 3,000 miles. That's according to data gathered by the Car Care Nut and David from Automotive Press.

    Toyota fluid isn’t made by Toyota and isn’t magical. 75w is for saving 0.00001mpg. Using multi-viscosity gear oil is fine in transfer case. I use Red Line 75-85w. Speced for transfer cases. No issues.

    Old Off-Roader here. I change my coolant based on its PH. I use a tester and when it hits 7 or less I change the coolant. Also, I do the same with my brake fluid, I use a tester for water (3% or more) and the brake fluid gets flushed and replaced. What are your thoughts? GREAT CHANNEL, always learn something!

    • @VikingsGarage
      @VikingsGarage  3 месяца назад +3

      Much appreciated sir!!
      Those are great tips specially for the upcoming techs to learn how these things actually are checked/tested.
      I was thought the same way, I do have the ph level gauge somewhere. Yeah water/moisture is the biggest enemy of brake fluid, other then heat.
      That’s actually the only fluid that hasn’t been changed in it. Getting it done with the brake job on the next service, probably 44k miles.

The other is I store my 4Runner inside my garage in Houston(very hot and humid) now is a bad smelling like something rotten but can find what is this, could be mold? Hey VG. I recently switched to 5-30 in my 2023 4Runner….. your thoughts. Wasn’t happy with the amount of metal in the oil from new changed at 700km. 1300km and I switched to 5-30 at 4000km . Also fluid filmed it when I picked it up in October before the snow. Northern Canada.

      I think “the motor oil guy “ would probably answer this one very well.
      I’ve always used 0w20, even in my red 4Runner which is at 210k miles, I always used 0w20 and I believe my brother in law is still doing the same.

    I just recently bought a 2016 4Runner with 67k. A fellow RUclipsr who was a Toyota Master Tech of 13 years and now owns his own shop said the Dealer doesnt even use OE transfer fluid but use gear oil. I also in my own research found that Valvoline makes Toyota engine oil. When doing the 60k service i found the transmission a total pain in doing it with trying to wait for the right temp of the fluid. I think next time i will opt for just a drain n fill. Dont really see why this wont work. Any thoughts on that? Just subbed to you. Will be checking out your other stuff. I change synth oil every 5k. 3k in my older cars that are non synth.

    Great video. Could you please tell me how you were able to access a professional garage where you can lift your truck up and have tools to use?

      I do this for a living.
      I’ve been doing it for over 25 years.
      I’m both Toyota and Honda Master technician.

    Do you guys work on kdss or send it to Lexus? I heard most Toyota shops don’t have the fluid pressure tool.

    • @VikingsGarage
      @VikingsGarage  3 месяца назад +1

      You’re absolutely correct!
      Not only do we not usually service them, but the one time I needed that pressure tool, they borrowed it from another dealer.

      @@VikingsGarage do you know if someone removed kdss, is there something in the tech stream to deactivate it so the kdss light will not light up on the dash after it’s removed or have to get a non kdss ecm?

      @@VikingsGarage my 4Runner has kdss. If it goes bad that’s what I was planning on doing or repair it myself. I Knew nothing about Toyotas, when I read kinetic dynamic suspension system on the sticker I thought it was upgraded struts and shocks lol.

    so it cost me $164 for them to reprogram FOBs. i sent a message a while back saying my FOBs buttons didnt work but it still registered so i could still use but not lock or unlock by pressing the buttons. I did nothing to my FOBs, only thing i ever did was go into settings in ent system changing a couple settings like unlock all doors. how the hell does that happen. the guys at toyota couldnt explain, they said i manually reprogrammed fob and messed it up. Both FOBs had exact same problem. weird
