Honestly, this is one of the best looking Civics ever~ I think the 2008 and 2013 versions of the Civic are my favourites. If I ever get a car just for me, I think the 2008 or 2013 Civic are my go-tos now~
@@lovelyyy7573 Yeah he did say that every Civic for 2013 came with a backup camera as standard, but even without one, the Civic is a small car so it isn't hard to park.
I bought my 2013 Civic LX from my grandpa 2 1/2 years ago with only 10k miles on it since my 90 year old grandpa couldn’t drive anymore. I needed something reliable and that Civic never failed me once. I beat it up and put 100k miles on it in a 2 year period. It still never had issues. I gave it to my brother about a month ago and now I drive a 2019 Camry. The civic got 111k miles on it now and it still runs the exact same way as it did when my grandpa bought it new back in late 2012.
I currently drive a 2006 Civic EX coupe and absolutely adore it. Right now it's at 450,000 kilometres and I've had to do barely any work to the car at all. Definitely a civic fan for life. I'm having a kid now and I need a sedan, so I'm looking at a 2012 LX and a 2013 EX tomorrow!

I'm 33 and honestly if it's quiet enough this might be the ride I get for my PA to Baltimore/DC/Annapolis commutes. I ran into a cousin today and she drives a lot for work. She said she loves hers and it doesn't have her feeling beat up by the end of the day. I'm so used to the quiet and smoothness of my Navigator that my Escort Wagon just doesn't cut it for the longer trips when it ends up being a 13+ hour day between leaving the house and pulling back into the driveway. I just know if I do more of these long drives the SUV's MPG won't be sustainable.
I own the 2013 civic Lx model. It lasted me from high school to college!! After 4 yrs college, I work 9-5 and it’s been my daily driver ever since. It’s a great car, I drove it to Vegas and to Rosarito Mexico. A couple times to Tijuana! The 2013 civic just last !! I only replaced the radiators at 100 k miles and changed the brake pads! Repair is easy and DIY-able! I did my oil change and tire rotation. As Honda says, “ smile per gallon” ! It’s facts! It’s okay on gas I average about 26 mpg. It can fit 2 bikes in the rear trunk. Great car and excellent build! I would buy the exact same car again!
I've read alot of automotive reviews in 51 years and I have viewed many video reviews both on the internet and on broadcast television. I've just subscribed to your site because that was without question the best video critique that I've ever seen done on a car. That review would score as one of the best written reviews of a car. Great reporting. I'm looking forward to more great stuff in the future.
I agree. Every company should listen to their customers. Honda updated the Civic not once, but twice on the 9th gen Civic...Toyota apparently didn't do that on the corolla. Atleast not with the 2013 corolla which was downright insulting. Decided to take on a 8000 dollar loss and trade this corolla for a new civic. Could NOT have been happier cuz Toyota doesn't deserve my money anymore. They should just sell their whole lineup to Hertz rentals for all I care. lol
By far the best video review of the new 2013 Civic! Very comprehensive which is sorely missing from most video reviews. I recently test drove the 2013 Civic EX sedan and came away EXTREMELY impressed! I've been driving a 2012 Civic EX sedan for nearly a year now and there's no comparison to the new 2013. The '13 Civic is like a completely different vehicle with a completely different personality. Honda got all the small stuff, the details right with the '13 model. Kudos to Honda!
There you are! No worries, we figured you were busy selling Hondas for the end of the month/year when it was uploaded. Glad you enjoyed it, we're looking forward to showing more Hondas/Acuras in the future!
I have a 2015 LX and like it a lot. I actually am glad it doesn't have push button start. I prefer the old fashioned key. I have the same Blue color as your tester. I know a lot of people like the 2016 and newer Civic's better, but I actually prefer the ninth gen styling wise (haven't driven a 10th gen, but hear they are much improved to drive), the black grill seems like more traditional Honda compared to the silver "brace face" look of the newer Civic models. I like Honda cars a lot, and am glad I bought one again
Just bought the Touring model (Canada)= Ex-L (USA). my dream car. Thanks Honda. But the review guy is too picky. People buy Honda cause its reputation+reliability. Most people don't care about the HP in cars like civic/corolla
I'm a mom of 4 boys...the oldest being 22, and the youngest being 13. I'm constantly on the go with my boys, with football, craft shows, etc. Even though I'm always out and about, I usually only have to fill up once a week. I got the EX model in white, and we love it. Smooth ride, quiet, and for a sort a small car, it's very comfortable on long rides. I'm very happy with this choice of car. I'm not out to impress anyone, and I'm saving money...which I feel is important in this economy!
Great review as always. I'm not one of those 'Honda fan-boys', but I do respect that Honda corrected what they acknowledged as a lacklustre effort. This 2013 Civic seems like one of the best cars in the class, especially when resale value and long-term reliability are factored in. Good on Honda!
I still think this Civic and the 8th generation Civic still look fresh today, even if they are older cars now~ Plus the reliability of Honda vehicles is also near the top :) Honda vehicles are just tanks that last for years. That two-tier dash will never get old for the Civic. This 2013 Civic and the 8th gen Civics are some of the best Civics I think Honda has made, and they are my favourite iterations of the vehicle.
Nice looking car, unlike some crazy new designs, nice interior, better than average reliability. Good choice at 19_20 grand. Looks as big as our 2001 accord which has been a great car. Hard to go wrong with this.
The EX also gets you a moonroof, 16" alloy wheels, rear disc brakes, auto climate control, and a 6 speaker stereo. At $1850, its a worthy upgrade in our eyes :)
I kind of like the cockpit in this car I mean some minor revisions would be nice but I like how everything is angled for the driver. and not just flat.
I actually just traded in my 2013 Focus for a 2013 Civic EX-L. I'm sure the Civic will be the more reliable car. Plus, I've never had a car with a moonroof, leather, or automatic climate control. If there's one feature that I wish the Civic had on it which I'll miss from the Focus, it would be the integrated blind spot mirrors. I'm probably going to end up buying a pair to put on my side mirrors. Those things are definitely worth having.
I have 2013 focus that didn't start up one day, turns out it was the Transmission control module. So I've been thinking about trading it in for the 2013 civic. How do you like it so far? What's you mpg like?
+MusicHead480 I like it! It may not be as sporty as the Focus, but it's comfortable and I like the interior layout better, not to mention not having to deal with a DCT. I had the TCM updated, but the shudder happens when it warms up. I live very close to work, so that skews my mileage lower just like in the Focus. I really want to take it out on a highway trip to check out the mileage in that regard.
I just bought one yesterday. I can't wait to get it. This car (EX) is really awesome. Just a word to the wise after taxes, freight, warranty and tinted windows, mine was about $31,800 (In Canada are dollar is within a cent of USA). I don't like the 16" rims my friend works at a shop so I can get some 18" rims really cheap. I also think it should have chrome exhaust, fog lights, and leather/racing seat option. Other than that I really like the car. Those are all fun after market projects though!
I have this car and gotta say, it’s extremely sluggish and has poor acceleration. Honda missed it on this point as it’s predecessor was much better especially without the Econ mode. Second thing I dislike is the lack of temp gauge as who needs a freaking mpg gauge when it’s already in the info center
Best civic review I've seen so far. Other reviews kind of just glaze through and barely even talk about the interior. I'm thinking of getting one but I want to see what the new 2014 corolla is going to look like first.
I bought one with low miles at a Honda dealership. I like the car because it looks stylish and it is good on gas. I was averaging 44 mpg in the highway last week.
Just got this beauty for 14k car price came up 16k cad, with 30k km in it and a manual. Fckn amazing car had the best deal in my dealer with all the accesories and winter tire for 16k bet i had a great deal with it! Best car for the buck!

You can buy that exact package as the 2013 Acura ILX Premium, as a bonus you get HID headlights, dual zone auto temp control, 17" alloy wheels, and slightly more power.
If you look at the rear end of a 2002-2005 Camry, the tail lights have the same shape. Most cars today cost roughly $100 bucks to replace a lost key. Just be careful and don't lose the key...
I have the 2015 LX sedan model and personally I love it, I know it's not a si or anything crazy but I love the car it gets me from point A to B. Tinting it makes it look nice and with the his headlights it will look good. Gonna use the car until it can't run anymore
Great review! I own a '12 Si coupe. not a fan of the fake carbon fiber on the dash, but the rest of the improvements sound great. I would personally love to see a side by side comparison, and good test drive :)
The 09 Civic is still a great car. Just keep in mind it will lack features like a back up camera, Bluetooth, Pandora, and the SMS text message reading capability. LX and below models also lack a USB input. The choice is yours, if you want the latest tech features and can swing the extra cost, the 2013 will be a better choice. If you don't need all those features and want to save money, go for the 2009 model, but we'd recommend an EX and up.
Well, the Focus ST and Dart don't compete until an SRT-4 version of the vehicle comes out. We are planning to review the Dart soon, we do find the styling to be quite aggressive but we will reserve our final judgement until we drive the car.
Honda calls the changing segment bars around the speedometer their Eco coach. Every time you hit the gas it turns blue but as soon as you let off on the throttle it turns green. It's supposed to help you drive more efficiently. We thinks its kind of annoying and doesn't really help our lead foot ;)
The material "to cover up the wiring" is sound deadening material. It helps prevent intrusion of road noise into the vehicle and reduces the sound of the trunk vibration from the bass in your speakers.
The Eco Assist light bars can be disabled to just show as blue at all times. Go into the iMID and I believe it's hidden under Trip Odometer settings. I think what you're looking for is "Fuel Efficiency Backlight"
We think Honda didn't update the styling as much on the Civic coupe because the 2012 model did not get as much negative criticism as the sedan did last year. The coupe now has more competition from Hyundai/Kia, hopefully Honda will update the coupe's styling soon.
Our ears note that the Elantra's engine is a bit "thrashy" sounding at high revs vs the motor in this vehicle. Other than that, both vehicles are exceptionally smooth driving.
I must say, I have had my 2013 Honda Civic LX 4 door for nearly 1 month. I must say, the road noise is improved over the 2006 Honda Civic body style. The Handling is great and I love that I have the option to have the Evo mode on or off and when it's off at 140hp it's fun! I think I made the great choice! Test drive it and you'll see! The LX model has plenty of standard features on it! The a/c is great, even on Eco mode. I can only imagine how good the max a/c button does with Eco off!
Just came across this video.. I think the car you drove for the review had a blown head gasket. When you reved the engine water was shooting out. That's not normal and is a sign of a blown head gasket.
How do you determine the Cruze will be cheaper to maintain? The design is relatively new and the engine is a new design; small displacement turbo engines are relatively high strung in their mechanical design. If there is any vehicle that will require more maintenance and have more problems down the road it will be the Cruze. The Civic has always had a reputation for lower ownership cost and low repair cost.
I had a 2013 Civic EXL Navi and it was a nice car to drive, but small inside. It was fine until about 1,000 miles when the HVAC started failing. After 7 repair attempts by Honda and their failure to fix the problem, I traded it and never went back to Honda again.
@@richl1319 I drive an Altima and recently upgraded to the '19 Altima and I love it. Honda's poor service and the way they treated me with the Civic left a bad taste. Now the Hondas have a big problem with fuel mixing with the engine oil on their 1.5L engines and they are not doing much to resolve the problem. I watched the 2013 Civic video to see what his impression was since I owned one. Despite the HVAC issue, it was a nice car to drive, but too small inside.
Pete I’m a bigger guy myself and I planned on leasing one of these used but I wanted to see inputs of previous owners. Now that I see it is a small compact car but those do exceptional on fuel efficiency. Might have to look at midsize sedans for now but I’m also a college student working part time therefore my budget is small.
Pete I have a family member who is leasing that car right now and it is one of the best midsize sedans. They have the SR trim level which makes it look even sharper
Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah, I don't need a track star, just an economical commuter with good response and feel, but not a harsh or noisy ride. Was also considering a VW Golf. Thanks again.
I have the 2013 civic LX 5speed manual. It is great, but dont expect miracles. It is certainly better than the auto. I used to own an 8th gen civic and this 9th gen looks and drives better. The biggest improvement is road noise. This civic is faster than all the other gens like 7th and down. 8th gen is similar in speed. I personally love the new look. some people may not like it at first, but give them a few years and they will be scrambling to get one just like the 8th gen.
It's really easy to back up a small car. The backup camera just makes it all the more easy. It's also positive reassurance so you don't back over an animal. Or allows you to park tighter in a spot where it's really tight. Remember, this kind of car appeals to city people.
It is nice that Honda had done a mid model update, because they were still selling very well, despite some of the criticism they have received, so that was nice of them to do that so soon! because at the time of the new remodel, the Civic name sold the car more so then looks.
It’s now going to be 2020 and I have my eyes set on this Honda Civic saving cash for it

@ 9:23, i did this when i was taking my drivers license test over 13 years ago and failed because of it. heh.
You are correct, in the US, the EX sedan only comes with a 5AT, the coupe does offer an EX 5MT however.
My parents did. It was a 2005 Suzuki. After rebates and what not, out the door it was $11,800. I've now worked my ass off and drive a '12 VW CC.
I just got this car yesterday. :) I'm in love
when you where at the test drive part I saw your Honda Fit lol
Well, the Focus ST and Dart don't compete until an SRT-4 version of the vehicle comes out. We are planning to review the Dart soon, we do find the styling to be quite aggressive but we will reserve our final judgement until we drive the car.
Honda calls the changing segment bars around the speedometer their Eco coach. Every time you hit the gas it turns blue but as soon as you let off on the throttle it turns green. It's supposed to help you drive more efficiently. We thinks its kind of annoying and doesn't really help our lead foot ;)
I'm keeping my 2010 Civic forever! :)
You ain't the only one
you still have it 😂
Yes, I do still have my 2010.
@@joshaden6533 cool dude 😆
I have an LX! First time I've ever owned a Honda and so far I'm impressed
The material "to cover up the wiring" is sound deadening material. It helps prevent intrusion of road noise into the vehicle and reduces the sound of the trunk vibration from the bass in your speakers.
Its now 2022 and im trying to get this as my first car
We never once changed lanes... we were filming on a two lane narrow back road...
The Eco Assist light bars can be disabled to just show as blue at all times. Go into the iMID and I believe it's hidden under Trip Odometer settings. I think what you're looking for is "Fuel Efficiency Backlight"
Love this channel the reviews are awesome !
They made it quieter by adding more sound insulating materials throughout the cabin
We think Honda didn't update the styling as much on the Civic coupe because the 2012 model did not get as much negative criticism as the sedan did last year. The coupe now has more competition from Hyundai/Kia, hopefully Honda will update the coupe's styling soon.
Convinced me to buy this car. Was a bit confused till I saw this video. Thanks 👍🏾
yup, that was it, it got quite a bit of attention with the camera equipment mounted to the back ;)
Backup camera is misplaced... it should have made near right hand side for better view
Our ears note that the Elantra's engine is a bit "thrashy" sounding at high revs vs the motor in this vehicle. Other than that, both vehicles are exceptionally smooth driving.
Oh finally i found someone talking about real world info on this car. Tnx
Just got one 48k miles 16.2k with 700$ all Honda coverage silverish grey and great car I will be putting a exhaust and new cold air intake
Just drive the Civic Si model. The motor is straight out of the Acura TSX :)
We'd rate the Focus above the Civic mostly because it is available in a hatchback configuration.
I love the improvements made on this civic almost as much as I hate the reviewers CONSTANT lip smacking. Holy moly, dude.
I just realized Sofyans fit is in front of the civic throughout the beginning!
It doesn't take high speeds to notice that a car corners more eagerly or has better steering feel.
That's just how he drives. But we also must be respectful of the vehicles we test :)
I AM SO GLAD YOU DID THIS REVIEW This is a welcomed improvement!
I had a 2013 Civic EXL Navi and it was a nice car to drive, but small inside. It was fine until about 1,000 miles when the HVAC started failing. After 7 repair attempts by Honda and their failure to fix the problem, I traded it and never went back to Honda again.
what are you driving now?
Pete if you have any vehicle suggestions I’d gladly take some into consideration
Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah, I don't need a track star, just an economical commuter with good response and feel, but not a harsh or noisy ride. Was also considering a VW Golf. Thanks again.
It's a difficult decision, we like the fact that the Focus is a hatchback, that may tip the scales toward the Ford's favor for us.
you may find the headroom a tad lacking, we'd recommend going with an Accord or choosing a Civic with no sunroof.
I personally love the new look. some people may not like it at first, but give them a few years and they will be scrambling to get one just like the 8th gen.
well done honda in my opinion the civic and the accord are the best cars you can buy today for 2013
Wow Sofyan! Your video's are getting up there with motor week!!!
