I bought a Honda Civic Sedan LX 2013 and its a great car to drive. It has USB audio, Bluetooth, and rear camera. I researched before buying the car. I have no regrets.
@@carlhammill5774 Yes. It's the only car I own. It doesn't get the EPA great gas mileage that it claims to get. I have yet to take the smog test and it's been seven years. I have had little problems but that's mostly due to wear and tear. I'm waiting for the next civic which will most likely come out next year. My one big complaint is the entertainment system. It uses a knob to change the tracks and folders. It's too darn slow! So I use my phone to play music and listen to podcast. It's great for a used car but don't expect to see great gas mileage like the EPA sticker says.
I have driven both these cars on long highway drives so listen up if you plan to buy either: The Corolla has dramatically more rear legroom. The Civic has significantly better steering feel. The Civic is considerably quieter on the road and is more buttoned down - meaning that the interior panels are solid. The Corolla feels cheap inside and rattles going over bumps. The Corolla has slightly better gas mileage overall. I'd really suggest you look into the size of the back seat and that in itself could be a deal breaker for the Civic (or not). Determine the quality of the ride of the Civic being better as it's so much quieter and doesn't feel upset over bumps.
The civic costs $2,000 more, locally I can get a Corolla for $4k less. With much more rear leg room, its like having a midsize sedan for cheaper than a civic.
Robert Lyons yeah. 4 six foot tall individuals can fit in a corolla... comfortably. Thats crazy. Im in NY and I've seen a few of them as yellow/green cabs, now I know why.
Can't go wrong with both. Have a Corolla Le Eco for a month now. Been very impressed so far. Ride is very comfortable and smooth. I'm getting an average of 39 mpg in real world, which is even better than the advertized 34 mpg.
wnnarace because it uses REAL leather it has a better safety rating and you get more for your money such as a STANDARD backup camera and bluetooth. And it comes with more standard horsepower.
Samir Hammoud In my experience the softer fake leather in the Corolla is actually nicer to the touch than the Civic. The safety rating is barely better than the Corolla, they are still both 5 star. Ok the Civic gets that standard but it also starts a couple of thousand more than the Corolla. Once you option the Corolla to LE spec, its price is still cheaper and they have the same equipment. The horsepower different is negligible. The Civic will be quicker but both are still incredibly slow.
TheK24Kyle I still disagree with the argument about the Civic having better tech in its base form. The Civics base form is not exactly cheap and once you option up its competition they have the same equipment while still mostly coming under the price of the Civic. The feature you are talking about in the Civic I believe is only available in the EX-L with navigation and that car is about 25k. When you look at the price of a loaded Corolla at 23.5k, you really are only missing that feature but still undercut the price by quite a large margin. You are giving too much credit for the Civic being a night and day difference in driving. The Civic has been near the bottom in the fun to drive category for a while. The Corolla, which I agree is worse than the Civic in the fun category, is not too far behind the Civic. The materials in the Civic I would not say are much better than the Corolla, I would call it a tie between the two. The SI is not even in the same class as a 1.8l Corolla. That runs with the big dogs like the WRX and Focus ST where it typically runs at the bottom of the pack. The Civic runs in the 9's plus I am betting it will be slower with the new CVT. The Corolla is in the 10's but neither of those times are something to write home about. The Civic in its recent generation is riding too much on its past. It really has become an expensive, slow, and boring car. Most of its competition undercut its price while still providing good features. The cars I recommend in this segment are the Mazda 3, Ford Focus, and Corolla in that order. The 3 would be my go to choice because it really is the best of everything with its only drawback being it is tight in the backseat. The Focus is just in general an all around good car and a strong alternative to the Mazda. I put the Corolla on the list because it does have a roomy rear passenger compartment while still providing some nice features. I would just recommend you look at the these three for your dad, Only choose the Corolla if you decide you really need the backseat room.
TheK24Kyle Caranddriver and Motortrend still clocked the 2013 Civic doing 9.1 0-60. Get the idea that is almost as slow as a 2013 Prius. The Focus is barely heavier than the Civic. The Civic ranges from about 2811 for the LX to 2930 in its top trim, The Focus is about 2960. The Focus has the extra power to compensate for the weigh and that is a car you can find actually achieving a 0-60 time about 8 flat. The dual clutch used in the Focus I agree had some reliability issues earlier on its life but Ford has done a lot of work to remedy its problems. I think your idea of not saying the Si competes with cars such as the WRX, ST, GTI is preposterous. Saying it does not have a turbo does not mean it should not be compared to these cars. Its lack of power is its downfall. The only thing the Si has for it is its wonderful transmission and low price but in the category that is not enough. Don't compare apples and oranges here, the Si is never a direct competitor with the Corolla. Yes a base Si is about the same price as a loaded Corolla but you are not going to see anyone cross shopping them. Ok sure the previous Corolla's have not been up to par but that does not mean this new one is like its previous generations. This new Corolla after reading reviews and driving one is much better than you think. Lets take a look at the pricing of a Civic EX and a Mazda 3 Touring. They both have basically the same features. The Civic is 21,880 while the Mazda will run you 21,440. One is cheaper than the other. Plus with the Mazda you are able to option it with the technology package and the price will just touch 23k or about 500 less than a Civic EX-L. The only thing you are missing then is the leather in the Mazda but I feel the features you get with the after-mentioned package are enough to make you cut your losses. The Mazda under Caranddrivers hands received a mpg of 32 albeit that was with the manual. How about the 2013 Civic, that was 5 less at 27. Again comparing a near base Accord to loaded compacts is not a comparison you make. Instead of telling me to go read reviews and drive these cars, I think you should go spend the time doing that. You have made numerous mistakes in your claims. I am well researched and familiar with most cars, that is why I make these claims. Take the time and do this research and you too will come to a similar conclusion.
***** Yes they did, they increased 4 more hp, push start with smart key, blind spot camera on the right mirror and front end looks different also! And CVT also.
Surprised the Corolla won, but Toyota really brought together a nice interior and NVH isolation for the price. The Civic's interior can't compete on looks (being more or less 2006 vintage, cheapened out for 2012, then un-cheapened for 2013) or quietness, but the driving feel is still miles better.
Joe Patroni What a dumb you're.You really believe what they say? It's easier to say (and also it's the truth) that both are crapboxes (but they can't say that). The difference is that one is just a little bit better than the other one. I haven't driven Corolla in person yet but while using Uber I felt Corolla had congested seats and less legroom. On the other hand, I'm an owner of 2015 Civic. It's very relaxing and much more soacious than Corolla. Both cars are reliable but Civic has an edge over comfort.
Toyota took some features from Scion and added it to the Corolla. Toyota's Etune system is easy to use, but is dated. The Corolla is more efficient, roomy, safer and reliable than the Civic
I'm probably in the minority here, but I actually think that the Corolla looks better. Considering that it is cheaper and offers more legroom, this would be an easy choice for me.
I can only justify buying the Corolla if you ignore the driver convenience package (keyless entry, push button start, and various additional applications that I'll probably never use) and the moonroof (combined cost around $2500).. You can get a top trim Toyota Corolla S without those items, and you'll still get heated leather, navigation, bluetooth streaming for around $21,500 which is excellent value. This is what I intend to do. If you really want both of those, then the Mazda 3i Grand Touring is the better value.
was there ever a reason to buy a nissan sentra? I gotta admit if it was my coin for either of these two econo boxes the corolla wins. I have driven them both and Toyota just gives u so much for ur dollar. Neither of them are going to be particularly sporty. Also having driven the Mazda 3 back to back with the corolla... sure maybe in the twisties the 3 can feel sporty but in everyday commuting it feels actually painfully slow unless its the 2.5
even though i drive a corolla, i would prefer the 2013 civic over the 2014 corolla if it was slammed... have you guys seen how low the civic can go compared to the corolla? Currently my corolla (2003) is slammed so i'm loving it!
I got the 2014 corolla S in a gun metal grey type color. It does look sexier & the interior is so comfortable, feels like I'm in a waterbed with vivid blue accents & beautiful venter console. It does lack power & was a lettle letdown because I had a 2003 is300 but you can't beat the feeling of freedom & comfort
The new Corolla has nicely improved; however, I would still go with the Civic. The Civic is more refined and reliable. Not to mention, Toyota has been having a lot of problems lately.
Lol looks like they took the wheels from the 09-11 Si, painted them different and put them on the '13 EX-L. Guess it saves money. On topic, I have to agree with them, the Corolla really is a nice car now.
Corolla is newer, so it wins. No surprise. Motor Trend and Car and Driver put both of these cars at the butt-end of the segment in a test of over 6 cars.
Love the difference between US and European reviews! The Corolla here has a cabin that's 'downright stylish!', where-as in Europe the cabin comes under criticism for being hard, cheap-looking and a bit ugly. Is our European cabin any different? Nope!
Well I will be buying the Civic in a few more months. I really don't care much for the horse power as it will be my daily commuter 120miles/day yikes lol. I don't think I'll complain since I drive a 1999 nissan quest GXE :-)
Just because corolla is newer doesnt mean it's better. I just traded my 2013 corolla for the 2014 civic lx. Didnt even bother test driving the corolla.
Nah, Honda performed an emergency face-lift because all they did in 2012 was de-content, cheapen, and uglify the magnificent 8th Gen Car. I tired of the bang-bang ride of my '08 Si coupe; damping was juvenile and harsh compared to the equivalent Golf GTI. So, when a lady in a Pacifica blew a stop and totalled my Si, I decided to change brands. Honda may offer great engineering, good reliability and efficiency, but Toyota offers simple engineering refined to perfection with even better reliability. I currently have a 2016 Corolla S purchased new March 2016- more comfortable, less road noise (classic Honda issue), a classier, normal looking IP, etc. I even gave up my manual transmission for heated seats because Toyota couldn't be bothered to offer that combo like they did in Canada. This generation Civic is so disappointing compared to the one prior, and the newest one (along with face-lifted 11th Gen Corolla) is uglier than sin.
Trunks are about the same. Civic wins with the 1st row seats. Corolla with the 2nd row seats. Civic needs the new CVT and a sight wheelbase stretch. Direct Injection wouldn't hurt either.
Corolla looks Fresh!Civic looks old !Your right, Toyota got it right!Get the Splus 6Speed makes it fun to drive, SmartKey and premium audio!More for your money!! Look at all the corolla advertising there's no old people in it!!
There both great vehicles but the Civics Interior is just so much more well made, the Corollas interior always fells cheap and deteriorates after time quicker
I'm not sticking up for the Civic, however the materials in the higher trim level cabins are a bit nicer and offer at least an arm rest. That said the 5 speed auto is dead. The Sentra SL Model LOADED with Leather and Navi, rear view monitor, apps radio, heated seats can be had for $21K including destination according to Edmunds.com Oh and Same Torque and 30/39 MPG.How does one choose?
I think toyota paid them...why would they pick the top all loaded, trimmed up toyota to show vs a honda? and I just bought a 2014 honda civic today, and love everything about it more than the corolla (which I test drove many times)
I like the civic more cause it looks better and when driving it at night on a empty freeway its just like flying a plane and also comparing to the corolla the civic looks so much more short kinda reminds me of a 4 door sport sedan while the camry is not even CLOSE to being sporty its as tall as a semi truck comparing it to the civic
Toyota was great in the 80's and 90's but not anymore. They have had so many issues with their vehicles over the past twelve years. From Rav 4's and Corolla's with the ECU's frying (2001-2008 Corolla and 2001-2004 RAV4) to mid to late 2000 Camry's burning way too much oil. Let's not forget about the acceleration problems on a lot of Toyota's a few years ago! I owned a 2006 Corolla and the ECU went bad. It was replaced under a TSB by the dealer. Seven months later the ECU went again, this time after the TSB bulletin of 80,000 miles. My mom owned a 2007 Camry which burned a CRAPLOAD of oil to the point where there was less than one quart of oil left at the next oil change. The dealer said it was normal. My buddy who worked in service at Honda for the past five years recently took a job at Toyota for a higher salary and a higher position. His first words to me when he had been there for least two weeks was ,"man, I'm always busy at Toyota because a lot more cars come in with problems than when I worked at Honda." I hate to disappoint all you Toyota loyalists but they aren't as reliable as you think they are.
You are correct. Toyota also had a huge recall on their truck frames... They were rusting away. Toyota's 1.8l four cylinder is a very reliable and low maintenance engine though, probably why they haven't changed it even though it's weak as hell by today's standards. Their other engines are hit and miss. They are known to burn oil and they eat O2 censors which are not cheap to replace.
While both cars look good in their top trims, the new Corolla looks awful in person on the lower trim levels. The Honda at least looks OK in its lower trims.
Just a comment, you guys need to work on your audio. Your voices were kind of low but the pre-recorded music and autoguide tag at the end were blaringly loud. Just even it out. Good video though.
rubiks15 your crazy if u think the miata is that nice of a car. Grant it their ok. But I'll take a s2k any day any any any any any any day over a miata. I'd rather have an s2000 with 200k miles over a brand new miata. Sorry but nah. And I would own a miata but there's some instances were it's a clear answer.
Not an impressive video. Announcers are hard to hear (not loud enough relative to other sounds), voices seem noticeably muted. I would think Autoguide would have enough money to buy some decent microphones and hire a guy to put some EQ and compression on the vocal tracks. I can't tell if the announcers are enunciating poorly, or reading off a script and failing, but this video is just all noise and no information. Don't read to me the facts that I can read on the video screen, never mind Google in 10 seconds. Don't be afraid to have an opinion based on subjective opinion/feel on a car when you're having a car vs car battle. Taking strong opinions is part of what makes some car websites and channels interesting to listen to.
The Corolla looks like it has AWD judging by it's ride height. It is the better looker because the Civic looks like too much is going on style wise both in the interior and exterior. In the end I would pass on both and get the way better looking Chevy Cruze or Mazda 3.
How come they say the Civic is an EX-L when it says Touring on it? Is the Civic a Canadian model? Only in Canada the Civic has Touring trim, only in USA does it have EX-L and its unfair to compare a 2013 Civic to a 2014 Corolla, the Corolla is model year 2014 but has the same 1.8L 130hp engine from the mid 90's, no major improvement in 20 years! And it failed the IIHS Small Overlap crash test with a "Marginal" rating while the Civic ACED that small overlap crash test with the highest "Good" rating. I choose the Civic over Corolla, but in 2015 model year, rumoured to include the Honda Earth Dreams Direct Fuel Injection Technology to boost fuel economy to 32 mpg city and 42 highway. With better safety and fuel economy, the Civic is clearly the better choice.
I test drove both and the Civic just felt a lot better/firmer. It was also more quiet than the Corolla.

even though i drive a corolla, i would prefer the 2013 civic over the 2014 corolla if it was slammed... have you guys seen how low the civic can go compared to the corolla? Currently my corolla (2003) is slammed so i'm loving it!
I disagree I have a Honda Civic 2013 and it’s very excellent response and control I’d choose civic every time
I have toyota 14 and honda 95 both cars are super
I got the 2014 corolla S in a gun metal grey type color. It does look sexier & the interior is so comfortable, feels like I'm in a waterbed with vivid blue accents & beautiful venter console. It does lack power & was a lettle letdown because I had a 2003 is300 but you can't beat the feeling of freedom & comfort
Hows the 2014 S going now?
2013 Honda Civic is cheaper. And better!
The new Corolla has nicely improved; however, I would still go with the Civic. The Civic is more refined and reliable. Not to mention, Toyota has been having a lot of problems lately.
Even though I like the Civic more, I prefer the Sentra over both of these vehicles. It's a better looking car overall.
I don't like dual screens on civic, 2014 Corolla S is a good driver's car .
Both are good.
Prefer Toyotas in general but gotta give the new mazda 3 the compact crown because of overall design and tech!
civic!
Love the difference between US and European reviews! The Corolla here has a cabin that's 'downright stylish!', where-as in Europe the cabin comes under criticism for being hard, cheap-looking and a bit ugly. Is our European cabin any different? Nope!
The 2014 Honda Civic has a new CVT, tech package, and gets better fuel economy (30 city & 39 highway). C'mon AutoGuide, you guys should've known this.
They are both meh. I would go for a 2014 Mazda 3.
Should've pinned the corolla against the 2014 civic. That one has a brand new tech package.
Trunks are about the same. Civic wins with the 1st row seats. Corolla with the 2nd row seats. Civic needs the new CVT and a sight wheelbase stretch. Direct Injection wouldn't hurt either.
Based on the seating angle alone, Civic is already a better choice
Great review
Corolla looks Fresh!Civic looks old !Your right, Toyota got it right!Get the Splus 6Speed makes it fun to drive, SmartKey and premium audio!More for your money!!
Look at all the corolla advertising there's no old people in it!!
Oh and if it was the 2014 Model Civic, it would totally beat the Corolla's user connectivity system.
There both great vehicles but the Civics Interior is just so much more well made, the Corollas interior always fells cheap and deteriorates after time quicker
all driving schools use only corolla for driver training, hands down, just go to your local DMV. there is a reason
If you added the Mazda3, Ford Focus, and Chevy Cruze to this video, where would those cars fall in?
I think toyota paid them...why would they pick the top all loaded, trimmed up toyota to show vs a honda? and I just bought a 2014 honda civic today, and love everything about it more than the corolla (which I test drove many times)
Can some one says if corolla's seats heat the bottom and the upper part I know that civic's seats heat only the bottom?
Reapers261 Yeah, Toyota's 1.8L is very reliable but most engines are nowadays except for maybe Land Rovers.
Mpg numbers where higher on the honda, yet at end of video you say the corolla gets better mileage.
So many civic fans, can't we just admit the corolla is the better car for the money overall?
Sad but true. Good for Toyota. But i'm personaly prefer the civic design.
corolla looks better but civic does better in almost all other aspects.
While both cars look good in their top trims, the new Corolla looks awful in person on the lower trim levels. The Honda at least looks OK in its lower trims.
and the crash test??
I'm pretty sure Civic is the winner for this comparison, but if you're comparing all of the compact cars... Mazda3 sure is the winner!!
Plus i already got the doorgaurds, mudgaurds & dark tint chich makes it look mean af
Just a comment, you guys need to work on your audio. Your voices were kind of low but the pre-recorded music and autoguide tag at the end were blaringly loud. Just even it out. Good video though.
I like both!
He says six pack of beer, as if people that drive Corollas are fun enough to drink beer
I still want a Civic I love Honda
Focus not invited? The New Focus is really good.
corolla has a nissan versa appeal
the corolla in diesel 1.4 with 6 speed manual is better and euro shape is way cooler
comparing these two cars is like comparing an Oster blender to a Hamilton Beach. No thanks... I'll stick to a Mazda 3 or Ford Focus
Mazda = Rustbucket
i dont think many people got the kitchen appliances metaphor but ok.
Ford Focus? Lol....You'd be lucky if the transmission doesn't shut off. Never buy American.
rubiks15 your crazy if u think the miata is that nice of a car. Grant it their ok. But I'll take a s2k any day any any any any any any day over a miata. I'd rather have an s2000 with 200k miles over a brand new miata. Sorry but nah. And I would own a miata but there's some instances were it's a clear answer.
Mazda ? Ford ? LOL great joke pal' Hope to see you one day at the side of the road with your broken down car while I drive by in my Honda 2014
They call it a touring in Canada. They call it a Ex-L in us or possible other countries.
Could have done without that hairy feet stuff...ew
Honda wins in resale value. Toyota wins in comfort and fuel economy.
What about the 2014 Civic? With the CVT and better infotainment system? And standard lane watch and smart entry with the EX and above?
The Corolla is way better... for rental fleets
Corolla FTW!! best car!
I have a corolla s 2014 it is the best car
Redo this comparison with the 2014 Civic
