Hey Scotty, I was looking into this Honda Civic that looked super clean, so I asked if I can see the car and check it out. I also asked to see what work been done on the car and if it needs work. It’s $800 bucks, but I wanted to ask if it’s even worth it to get. Also the guy never replied back
Basically he had to remove the motor mounts so the engine could be low enough so he reach up inside. Honda is notoriously bad with that. The older Honda's are a bit better space wise and a bit easier to work with. As much as he'd say not to I had a 1994 accord with 275k on the engine that ran beautifully
@@kibawhitefang7176 most fwd and transverse engine mounted awd car have the belt on the side too. Audi's can be a pain too before they switched to timing chains but even those have chain issues too.
I give you credit Scotty. I’m in my mid 40’s and working on my cars takes a huge toll on my body. Sometimes a simple control arm change takes me 2 hours to complete because frequent breaks are needed to alleviate pain in my back and arms. You on the other hand make it look like child’s play even at your age. Thanks for another diy video. Those types of videos is why I watch your channel.

8:35 for me It was the windshield wipers that were vibrating, I thought it was the dash board too until one of the mechanics told me it was the loose black trim the wipers were attached too. They tried to make me pay $200 for a new one but I just bought a $20 windshield black sealant and put it under and sealed it. 90% the noise is gone. Only does it when on a bumpy road.
I just did one on an 04 element. Below the intake manifold. I decided to go from underneath...in all honesty I have no idea if it saved time or not, just a horrible job...
Took me 3 hours to replace a starter on those civics with a hoist and everything. Absolute PITA. Will never buy one of these cars just because they're a huge pain to work on
All you need to do to get the tensioner out is remove the alternator. Removing the Motor mount , water pump pulley, tire and jacking the engine up is not necessary

I have 138k on my 14' Civic ex. Have had to replace a torque mount. Just had a evap emissions issue fixed. Other than those issues, motor is strong and the one thing I was unsure of, the CVT is still buttery smooth. I'd change the transmission fluid earlier than what Honda says. Reason being, you just never know. End of the year I'll trade it for something a little bigger. Maybe a 16' or 17' accord. Been driving a compact last 11 years. Ready to go midsize again.

Engine mount bracket, not the motor mount! the mount in that car didnt come out. plus you missed or glossed over several areas . would really help to list all the tools needed as most guys dont have air tools, impact wrenches, etc,
i recently replaced my tensioner on my 8th gen civic and i did not need to remove the motor mounts and jack up the car. I just grabbed a 3/8 rachet and extension and removed the tensioner bolt. You can remove it without jacking up the engine just in case anybody is wondering.
Hondas are usually dependable and nice cars (although Toyota still retains its position at the top for reliability), but what a huge design flaw. Seriously, having to drop and raise the entire engine that many times just to replace a new tensioner for a 5 year old car (which shouldn't even need it being that new of a car)? My 2004 Camry with a V6 wouldn't even be nearly that difficult to replace an a belt tensioner or Idler Pulley!
This reminds me of my Pontiac Grand Prix. I had the alternator die on the car. The year model before was up top of the engine so an easy repair. The one I had you had to remove the right front tire. Drop the A frame just to get to it. The people who design these cars need to consider those working on the cars.
I had this idler pulley In my Honda civic 2008 it seems to get bad after couple of miles So for me I just took the idler out completely got a belt that fits well end of story
All of the petrol 1.8 (R18) Honda's seem to have an issue with this tensioner. Around every 60-80K miles they fail. It's a design flaw, it's a pity it runs up until the 2015 models, the 2005 models suffer from the same issue.

honda makes those parts purposely ware after a certain amount of miles, its how they make money, its how any car brand make money, at least honda chose that part vs the transmissions like american cars.. and the replacement part he changed will more than likely out last that car
Toyota/lexus is still the best more reliable car out there. You hardly see a toyota belt tensioner break like that soo soon until may after 10+ years. Quality toyota Denso parts

I’ve had my tensioner pulley replaced, enevtually it is a sign of another problem, either alternator or water pump pulleys wobbling slightly and the tensioner pulley is taking the hit

HELP, i got a 2007 honda fit and on cold start if I drive it before it warms up it wants to die if I stop and normally has a weird irritating smell when cold but all goes away when warmed up
The r18 is definitely tight to work with but it is one of the most simple engines you will ever work on a single overhead cam four cylinder something breaks on this car it's very easy to fix

That's modern cars for you. They want you at the garage to pay their mechanics fees. My wife's uncle used to have an Alfa Romeo, needed an alternator, engine out job. Ouch
You mean the torque? I've noticed too. But yes, you can safely tighten bolts with an impact if you have the experience. I can't, but I know it can be done no problem.

Easier if you remove the exhaust so it's out of the way.

FYI for 8th gen civic owners this is the same way to replace the tensioner pulley assembly.
Where did you jacked the engine; one of the lower pulley? The oil pan will crush if you jack it from there.
