Have had it for about 10 months and no issues at all, and it still looks decent, and like you said, I started appreciating the reliability and also the gas mileage
My dad had a '15 LX and even with the manual that car was unsavable. ride was horrible, super light feeling front end, seats were terrible, and the road noise. I've been in other gen civics and they were all so much better, and then my current 06 outback is miles ahead in terms of comfort, noise, everything, even at 216k miles.
I bought my 2012 Honda Civic LX brand new in 2012. Besides some occasional issues with starting I have essentially replaced tires and brake pads. It has 300k miles on it right now. Its been a great car, which I drive 74 miles each way to work for 9 years. Id buy another Civic
I have 196k miles on my 2012 Civic LX right now. Should be at 200k in just a few motlnths now. Just got done a 2k mile road trip and its still running great! I was able to get 42+ mpg average with the ac running. Very happy!
That split gauge cluster looks cool and futuristic. It's no weirder than a Prius. All of its competition was also dull and Consumer Reports is for old people. Cheap to run, cheap to fix, and comfortable and reliable as long as you don't try to make an economy car fast. In 30 years (assuming we're still allowed to own cars) I could see these being semi-collectible because so many of them get riced and wrecked or just used up as daily transportation. The voiceover was nice.
Yep. Definitely cheap to fix. My girlfriend has a Civic. Weird things break on it, but it's never anything to do with the engine or transmission. Her door won't open, so I'm putting in a new latch. Was $30. The wiper motor broke, so I put a new one in. That was $60. Just replaced the entire wiper transmission because it broke in to places. That was like $150. The only thing on the engine to go was the thermostat, but that was a $50 fix, as well. Very easy to work on. Reminds me of my 2001 BMW 330i, honestly. It's just weird how all the little stuff like that broke with 100k miles on the car, but I think it's just time. My BMW had it's own issues at 230k miles lol. She says if she's getting a newer car, it'll be another Civic. Can't complain.
CR recommended the 2011 and the 2013-2023. So if their advice/opinion is only for old ppl then young ppl should not buy the 2011 nor the 2013-2023 models? Why did Honda decide on their own to redesign it for the 2013MY if CR was the only ppl saying that it isn't up to Honda's own past benchmarks?
2013 they also added reflectors in the rear bumper, my Dad has the 2012 and its great on gas and even better average mpg when i get to use it. I really like the buttons on the steering wheel for the radio and cruise control

Mine is just about at 175,000 and seems to drive better than not only anything I’ve driven that long, but anything else on the road up until maybe the 2016-20 models. It’s literally my favorite car I’ve even owned. PS: it has the R18 engine, which you can look up yourself, but it’s actually pretty quick. 0-60 is slow as molasses but it handles really well and who is REALLY trying to be going that fast in an LX 😂 It handles higher speeds quite well, I’m just saying, it’s a Honda so you’re not going to really “pull” until you truly gas it, and this car has no problem doing that once you feel confident and comfortable.
I have a 2012 Si, I absolutely adore it. I think I prefer the 12 over 13-15. it's so unique and I always appreciate seeing another 12 more so than seeing a 13-15. I agree about the rear end being muscular. I got to stand back and appreciate the way it looks from the back. especially with the Si spoiler and rear bumper diffuser and exhaust tip. what a brilliant car. can't forget to mention it's got the legendary k24. reliable, fun and great on gas. with my driving I still manage 28-31 mpg.

I bought a white 2012 Civic EX sedan in 2019 to do rideshare driving. I'm happy with it. It won't beat a Dodge Hellcat, Camaro, Mustang or BMW but it is peppy enough to make swift moves in traffic. This video is going to make me switch back to my 12’ 😂 Originally my mom’s civic, she gave it to me after she upgraded to a corolla in 18. She said, she’d sleep better knowing I was in her civic 12 over my dad’s 03 Corolla. That car was my FUEL efficient friend. Between school and work, I was driving almost 500 miles per week. My favorite part besides traffic, was watching my MPG go up! My average was 37mpg and I was always trying to get it higher! (Curse the red lights!) The only trouble I had with the 12, was the alternator and the belt. I’ve only changed it once since and it’s doing fine. Other then that, maintenance was normal. Last summer, I took the 12 civic for a road trip and I got over 40mpg 🎉. I saved a ton of money on fuel as I traveled traveled across states to visit friends and explore new places. This January I gave my younger brother the 12 civic. He is commuting to school, and compared to my Dad’s 03 Corolla, the 12 civic is still great with Fuel efficiency. 😂 While I wanted to get myself a 23’ civic, it was out of my budget. So I settled with a nice blue 16 civic. The car is running great and the Econ feature has improved from the 12 I been driving for a while. The 12 civic currently is over 200k miles and running strong. Compared to my dad’s 11 civic, that climbed past the 400k miles and was running strong. I purchased the 16 civic at 82k miles in January and now am over 90k miles as of June. But yea, I liked the 12 civic as did my mom. It’s a reliable car. My friends loved driving around with it and it got the job done! Yea; the body was strange mold but the interior was just fine for me!
Proud owner of a 2012 honda civix 2012. This vehicle have 5 out of 5 star which is excellent in reliability. No problems at all just oil changes. Avoid the cvt transmission at all cost. Go with 2012 or 2013 honda civic
I have a 2013 LX with a manual transmission and its been totally worry free and enjoyable. The 2013-15 is definitely a little better looking/nicer, but the 2012 is absolutely fine. Compare any 9th gen to the 7th gen Civic... In hindsight, this is in another league than the 2003 EX I had in college, and doesn't have any major common issues. I think the 2001-2002 Civics were probably the low point.
First owner of 2012 EX-L 11 years ago - No issues at all! Zip! Right now at 255K, running excellent! Just do your routine maintenance and will last more years guaranteed!🤩
Ohh man I remember back in the day when I had just a 2000 Honda Civic and this car was about to reach production...I wanted it so bad and I couldn't understand why reviewers kept giving flak for it. I ended up getting a stupid 2013 Corolla which I have no idea how I ended up with that car instead of a 2013 Civic but I had a 2014 which I traded in the Corolla for and it was honestly not a bad car at all. These 9th Civics make great used/beater cars.
I had leased a 2013 Honda Civic LX. I was happy they made the quality improvements in 2013 after the cheap half baked 2012 Honda Civic. I ended up returning that lease in 2016 and then financed a 2014 EXL. The 2014 was really nice but it was extremely loud on the highway with the 17 inch rim and then it had a CVT. 2014 is when the Civic was CVT two years of having it, I had to trade it in. Horribly slow and became bad on gas because you had to be doggin’ it so much to keep it moving. The 2013 with the automatic was much better.
One thing that I found cool with the 9th gen (and 8th gen, CRZ, 1st gen Ridgeline, and 2nd gen Insight for that matter) is that on the driver's side, the outboard vent and panel practically mirror the inboard vent and panel
I love this car I been having my 2012 Honda cívic for 8 years at 218K miles on started leaking a lil bit of oil which I am going to get that fix soon ASAP!!!! Other than that great reliable car I strongly recommend anyone who is need of a good reliable car
Just rolled 210k on our 12 civic Lx. I can say it will absolutely blow your mind how reliable these things are. I put good quality oil in her and its just amazing.
Got this car my freshamn year of college in 2014. Ten years of hard driving across the country later the old red bean is still jumping down the road. By far one of the most reliable vehicles of the modern era, its not fancy or fast. It just works and that's why those who own them love them dearly.
We have a 2012 Civic HF. Gas mileage is upper 30s to low 40s. Only problem is the negative terminal battery sensor which seems to have a lot of problems. It will show there's an issue with the battery but there isn't so we just ignore it.

I have a 2012 EX-L with leather and very outdated navigation lol. It's been an amazing car, super cheap to maintain. I did all 4 breaks, rotors, pads and 2 calipers for under 500$. Easy to work on, under the hood, if you look down at the subframe they even have an arrow pointing to where to put your jack. I tow my 900lb atv with mine without issue as well. A great all around car. 270k trouble free. I have definitely been converted to Honda's with this car and that's coming from a 2015 Focus ST.

Thanks for your review I have a 2014 Honda Civic and I think it is the best car I owned. I hate the looks on the new Civic it is no longer a Civic but more an Accord. I hope I can keep using my Civic for many more years it is the best Civic Honda ever made.
@@richcombs4805 Not sure. Those were made in England. Class action law suit against Honda for faulty AC compressor in the Civics for the years mentioned. My mistake, it's the condensers. Not the compressors.
I have a 2012 lx and it runs decent had it for 4 years now lowered it cambered but still runs good other than cosmetic changes and a wrap it’s still amazing planning on keeping it and doing a full swap soon for the transmission
My 2012 Civic was actually the least reliable car I ever owned. I bought it to be my forever car and religiously maintained it with the hopes it would last 250k problem-free miles, but it went through batteries and tires like crazy, it left me stranded multiple times, the AC compressor needed replacement at 85k miles, and finally, the 5-speed auto grenaded at 105k miles.
Overall, the car is absolutely disgusting. I find it hilarious when people who think they good take care of their car only washing the exterior without ever touching the engine bay. It's like taking a shower without washing your balls.
I purchased this car 4yrs old from used dealer for $6,782.00 and it still runs great with now 123k miles. Glad to read people are getting 200k or 300k miles. I was considering getting a new car but prices are so high now.. Thanks
I needed this review! I really use compare the 2012 Civic with Windows 8: Lanched in 2012, and was succeded by Windows 8.1 in 2013, as was the Civic, "fixing the mistakes". But was it that mistaken? That's why I'm going to watch this video.
I have owned the 2012 EX Model of this car and it’s a Awesome commuter car. 40 mpg and cheap to maintain. Much larger and efficient than my 1998. #WouldRecommend
Need advice anyone please??? I can't decide between a 2012 Scion Tc auto, 120k miles or a 2012 Honda Civic LX w Manual Transmission, 88k miles. I like the idea of a Honda with lower mileage even though it's slow and not sporty look. The Tc is faster as far as hp goes and looks better than the Civic LX but the 2 doors might make car insurance higher. I just want a fun daily, driver car and yes, I considered a Civic Si but they're out of my budget and most are high mileage or heavily modded. Let me know your thoughts??? Thx
I had the 2013 Civic LX. Reliable af, great on gas, but it was too friggin small and the seats sucked. I’m 5’10 and I couldn’t stand being in it during longer trips. Gave it to my brother and got a Camry
you might be in the minority here my guy. I have a '15 si sedan, but I'm not partial to either nose. I still have a '10 civic lx that I baby as much as I can. xD
The story of this car is amazing! They changed 80% of the car on the 2013 (if i remember correctly), honda lost face big time on that one! I test drove a brand new 2012 manual lx and it felt cheap and lose, the feeling was as bad as driving a corolla of that era... the fit drove better...but was made in china for that model year in canada, so no sale! Yeah, that was a bad move for honda...
This car was indeed panned for being cheaped out when it came out. Honda looked like a bunch of dirty double crossing sons of bitches when this thing came out. Its not that it wasn't reliable, but the interior looked like something out of the clearance aisle at ross, and the rear end was enough to gag a maggot. Other than cheap transportation, there wasn't much else to like about this car. Any other year of Civic is better and I feel sorry for anybody who got hoodwinked into buying this year. The SI is a little better but the Lx reminds me of something from a Texaco restroom.

But yea, I liked the 12 civic as did my mom. It’s a reliable car. My friends loved driving around with it and it got the job done!
Yea; the body was strange mold but the interior was just fine for me!
It's still the 9th generation civic. It was just facelifted early due to complaints that honda didn't do enough as it looked similar to the 8th gen.
Proud owner of a 2012 honda civix 2012. This vehicle have 5 out of 5 star which is excellent in reliability. No problems at all just oil changes. Avoid the cvt transmission at all cost. Go with 2012 or 2013 honda civic
Looking into getting one with 97 k miles, how reliable has it been?
@El Vale very reliable just oil changes on time and put on new tires. Very reliable cars
I agree like the dash, it’s like the high tech version of the 8th Gen.
Been driving mine for twelve years now and I’ve had no issues that weren’t my own. Reliable, comfortable, and a smooth rider in my experience.
That voice over at the end is dope
I have a 2013 LX with a manual transmission and its been totally worry free and enjoyable. The 2013-15 is definitely a little better looking/nicer, but the 2012 is absolutely fine. Compare any 9th gen to the 7th gen Civic... In hindsight, this is in another league than the 2003 EX I had in college, and doesn't have any major common issues. I think the 2001-2002 Civics were probably the low point.
I agree, I own a 01 till this day.
First owner of 2012 EX-L 11 years ago - No issues at all! Zip! Right now at 255K, running excellent! Just do your routine maintenance and will last more years guaranteed!🤩
Same here with 11 years owned and zero issues with 105K miles.
Awesome
Ohh man I remember back in the day when I had just a 2000 Honda Civic and this car was about to reach production...I wanted it so bad and I couldn't understand why reviewers kept giving flak for it. I ended up getting a stupid 2013 Corolla which I have no idea how I ended up with that car instead of a 2013 Civic but I had a 2014 which I traded in the Corolla for and it was honestly not a bad car at all. These 9th Civics make great used/beater cars.
The Accords of this era also had CVTs, although you could get a six speed automatic transmission only on the V6 models.
The 2013 with the automatic was much better.
man I got the 2012 Si got over 170,000 miles and still runs dam good.
Recently bought a 2012 civic SI, and found that the 2012 shows it’s age far more than the 13-15 civics do.
That voiceover has be dying 😂💀 great video !
The narrarating at the end was nice
One thing that I found cool with the 9th gen (and 8th gen, CRZ, 1st gen Ridgeline, and 2nd gen Insight for that matter) is that on the driver's side, the outboard vent and panel practically mirror the inboard vent and panel
I love this car I been having my 2012 Honda cívic for 8 years at 218K miles on started leaking a lil bit of oil which I am going to get that fix soon ASAP!!!! Other than that great reliable car I strongly recommend anyone who is need of a good reliable car
I have a 2012 lx coupe manual transmission. Absolutely flawless, excellent suspension and handling. This car is a hidden gem that will last forever.
Just rolled 210k on our 12 civic Lx. I can say it will absolutely blow your mind how reliable these things are. I put good quality oil in her and its just amazing.
I own a Civic fb 2.0L, mileage about 270k km. A durable car. Still loving it. 👍🌸
Got this car my freshamn year of college in 2014. Ten years of hard driving across the country later the old red bean is still jumping down the road. By far one of the most reliable vehicles of the modern era, its not fancy or fast. It just works and that's why those who own them love them dearly.
Good content for any one thinking of buying cars
We have a 2012 Civic HF. Gas mileage is upper 30s to low 40s. Only problem is the negative terminal battery sensor which seems to have a lot of problems. It will show there's an issue with the battery but there isn't so we just ignore it.
I had a 13 Civic LX that I leased back in 2013. Fantastic car, 0 issues .
my 2012 still kicking asses
I inherited over a million dollars last year and my friends are all shocked I’m still driving my 2012 Honda Civic. I love , love my Honda Civic. It’s cute like it’s owner. I own one car and it’s my Civic.
Very responsible. Hope your money lasts!
@@BringBackCyParkVendingMachines :Thank You! I paid off the house and received the deed. I gave $350,000 to my Morgan Stanely investors ,and she is doing a great job. My partner and I are both working full time and we have a budget.
My brother received the same amount of money and he spent $75,000 on stuff including a $10,000 trip to Las Vegas! Oh dear.
2013 literally seems like a new gen, so much improvements
I own one & its the best daily driver simple as that could easily modify anyway you want and whats different its a 1yr car even tho there is alot on the road it different from every other 9the gen honda & i love mine its priceless considering how reliable it is august makes 2 year i own mine & i don’t regret buying it should i get an si yes but my civic is priceless to me so opinions means nothing to me 🙏🏻🔥 nice video tho
Traded my 06 RSX with 157k miles for a 2012 civic lx with 62k miles. Don’t regret it one bit 🙌🏼💯
Looking into getting one with 97 k miles, how reliable has it been?
got the 2012 at 2015 , with 35k miles, it has 150k miles now, things that i had to repair are starter and A/C.. ( had an accident where the oil pan got tear in it lol, else we are good)
I have a 2012 EX-L with leather and very outdated navigation lol. I have definitely been converted to Honda's with this car and that's coming from a 2015 Focus ST.
i have one here for $5300 cad for one with 300,000 km mainly highway, do you think it can run for another 100k?
@@newbtotvd2548 yea I don't see why not just keep up with maintenance and it could last 5-600k
@@flatbedder thanks for the reply. also how is the electronics for the car? like the aux and speaker and nav . still functional?
@@newbtotvd2548 speaker works with Bluetooth for music but I find people have a hard time hearing me in calls. NAV I have never touched, I actually have a phone mount mounted to the navigation screen lol.
@@flatbedder oh nice, how many kms you at now?
Thanks for your review I have a 2014 Honda Civic and I think it is the best car I owned. I hate the looks on the new Civic it is no longer a Civic but more an Accord. I hope I can keep using my Civic for many more years it is the best Civic Honda ever made.
My mom ‘15 civic coupe still feel new to me
More reliable then the early 10th generation, 16' to 18'. Fact.
16-18 has issues? How about the 18 hatchback MT?
@@richcombs4805 Not sure. Those were made in England. Class action law suit against Honda for faulty AC compressor in the Civics for the years mentioned. My mistake, it's the condensers. Not the compressors.
Looking into getting one with 97 k miles, how reliable has it been?
I love the year, dont care about the 2013 upgrades
Lemons happen, but the majority have rock solid reliability!
Did you change the tranny fluid every 35k ?
I'm already annoyed with how dirty the engine bay is of this review
Overall, the car is absolutely disgusting. I find it hilarious when people who think they good take care of their car only washing the exterior without ever touching the engine bay. It's like taking a shower without washing your balls.
Civics are solid “regular” cars
If you’re ever able to find a Ford Five Hundred to look at, pls do a video. Would love to see your take on them!
My 2012 SI with 285K on her. I just love it.. Just basic maintenance repairs. Best car I've ever owned !
These Civics are the best 1st car, reliable and simple to maintain specially the manuals. Everything is pretty much DIY.
My civic has a really bad paint work, seen many civics from this generation with faded clear coat.
My mom has a 12' Civic manual its an amazing car only big issue is the battery but that's it im going to get this car when i go to college
Back when the Civic was still a compact car.
I purchased this car 4yrs old from used dealer for $6,782.00 and it still runs great with now 123k miles. Glad to read people are getting 200k or 300k miles. I was considering getting a new car but prices are so high now.. Thanks
I'm at 342,220
Thanks for the info!
I rather deal with road noise than been wrecked at the side of the road with any confortable ford or dodge vehicle
Somehow I like the cleaner design of the 2012 than the 2013
Same here 💯
Me three!
I went from a 2011 to 2012, and the 11 was better in a lot of ways. The storage compartments on the 11 were so much better
Really, the interior is just ok but a great car mechanically. Very efficient too.
If I had to get this generation of Civic, I would get a 2013.
I needed this review! I really use compare the 2012 Civic with Windows 8: Lanched in 2012, and was succeded by Windows 8.1 in 2013, as was the Civic, "fixing the mistakes". But was it that mistaken? That's why I'm going to watch this video.
Stay to the end for the voice over
I have owned the 2012 EX Model of this car and it’s a Awesome commuter car. 40 mpg and cheap to maintain. Much larger and efficient than my 1998. #WouldRecommend
Looking into getting one with 97 k miles, how reliable has it been?
were these civics always in sedan form in USA as opposed to hatchback in Europe?
I got the coupe version elx 8k 150k miles 😊
Need advice anyone please??? I can't decide between a 2012 Scion Tc auto, 120k miles or a 2012 Honda Civic LX w Manual Transmission, 88k miles. I like the idea of a Honda with lower mileage even though it's slow and not sporty look. The Tc is faster as far as hp goes and looks better than the Civic LX but the 2 doors might make car insurance higher. I just want a fun daily, driver car and yes, I considered a Civic Si but they're out of my budget and most are high mileage or heavily modded. Let me know your thoughts??? Thx
A Scion is not in the same league has the 2012 Honda Civic Lx!
@@o-g-ob4399 so, you're saying the Honda Civic LX is better in what ways?
Good review. Sir
I had the 2013 Civic LX. Reliable af, great on gas, but it was too friggin small and the seats sucked. I’m 5’10 and I couldn’t stand being in it during longer trips. Gave it to my brother and got a Camry
Just curious , why didn’t you get an Accord instead of the Camry?
@@b.f.378 because I didn’t want a CVT transmission or a turbocharged engine. Plus, the newer accords are kinda ugly to me.
@@ShamuAquatics the 2013 civic has a cvt tho bro all of the 9th gen non SI civics are cvt
@@davidfavors781 they didn’t start putting CVT transmissions in the Civic until the 2014 model year.
@@ShamuAquatics But dude bro !
I almost traded this for a new charger GT I'm glad I didn't saved myself from an 800$ payment and back to my daily driver reliable only got 84k miles
7:36 ironically, the nose on the refreshed sedans looked _even worse._ I would know. I switched my 2013 LX front facia to that of a 2012.
ruclips.net/user/shortsDZvgP1ysH0o?feature=share
you might be in the minority here my guy. I have a '15 si sedan, but I'm not partial to either nose. I still have a '10 civic lx that I baby as much as I can. xD
Wanted to like your channel but found myself really disappointed that you dont actually drive the cars much!
Well my wife as of 9 2024 122000 miles no issues what so ever, and what you fail to mention timing CHAIN not belt.. starts every time, great gas 22 city 37 to 41 hyway
only year make ? A badge of honer......
It’s still unclear what’s the reason this MY wasn’t so popular as usual - I see no major difference between this one and the next MY.
They got complacent after the great 8th gen.
my 2012 civic and the 2022 civic look awesome and runs really good the ones in the middle NO dont really like them at all i dont like the ones in the middle my 2012 and 2022 civic looks so good so awesome side by side i like how they look when parked together they look so good similar body style in different ways that how i see those two cars
Click bating. There was no big mistake.
I have a 2006 with 200,000 miles and my motor looks cleaner than that, wth happened to yours? Looks like gray powder was thrown on it.
Dude works in a mine so I’m guessing he parks in the dirt. I got a 2007 with over 211k and hella oil leaks and my engine bay is cleaner than that
I love the windshield tint you have on that car. What %
35%
@@ShootingCars nice an to get that dark look on the sides what % did you have on the windows? It looks good.
Those Si' 12 models look Rare nowdays.. and a youtuber one day said Rare cars equals money lol
Cos of this gen, I bought a fit instead
How is the 2012 a "1 year car"
its just a mistake right?
People hated this gen I know, it what an ok body style imo, the sedan body style that was the 2012 looks too conservative and feminine for my personal taste.
My wife has a 2012 civic where the tpms reset button?
There isn't one got to go to a shop 😕
“The new Honda civic”(shows an accord)
this car was such a letdown. the 2006-2011 civic was far superior car and better looking. after one lackluster year, honda made changes to this generation for the 2013 model.
8th gen was ugly in my opinion. I have the 2013 , best one
Does it have Bluetooth connectivity?
Is it?
