    Drew, if you're ever concerned about getting grout inside porous/pitted stone, I would put a thin layer of sealant first. The sealant will fill in the little holes. Then you can grout with less worry. Also, the grout haze clean off better. Your floor looks phenomenal!

      Is it a good idea to put the clear sealant on the tile both before grouting and after grouting?

      Beautiful as always! I had someone to lay my kitchen and laundry room tile and I wanted a light colored grout. Now 6 yrs later the grout is dirty. Of course mopping and sweeping over the years. I never knew about re-sealing the floors. So, how the heck do I get the grout clean and what would I re-seal the floor with? Thanks! 🙂

    FYI… I did this type of flooring also… when you cut the tile, you can then turn the tile and tilt the cut edge and run it across the top cut edge against the tile saw blade … it rounds the cut edge perfectly… I did a ton of tiles this way.

    • @lonefox

      Smart idea. I did a base board from stone and beveled the tops with my lapidary diamond flat lap. This is another option.

    • @dao8805
      @dao8805 6 месяцев назад +2

      Sorry, but I'm confused😟. Are you talking about taking a second pass with the tile against the saw blade after making the initial cut, just to round the edge?
      And when you say to turn the tile, turn it which way? Can you please explain a little more about how you position the tile in relation to the blade?

    • @curtreese3089
      @curtreese3089 6 месяцев назад +4

      @dao8805 place the top edge of the cut tile perpendicular to the saw blade and drag that edge from side to side against the blade… you have to hold the tile in your hand, not flat on the saw table… then you sort of shape the edge… sounds complicated, but very simple.

    • @dao8805
      @dao8805 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@curtreese3089 OK, that helps a lot. Super idea. Hope this helps others as well . Thanks, Curt, for taking the time to explain! Have a great day.🥰

    Since you will have a big armoire for storage, maybe over the washer/ dryer, instead of a small cabinet, either an open shelf or two or a beautiful piece of art. It’s kinda a small space and even a small cabinet might make it feel smaller.

    GREAT attention to detail on the tile work!. Seeing the importance of softening the cut edges shows what a talented craftsman you are, Drew. You make it look easy but it's obviously a ton of work and takes patience and planning. The braid transition is a beautiful way to handle what some would think of as a problem area, not worth any special effort but you turned it into a great design opportunity. Love the creamy color of the paint. BEAUTIFUL RESULT!!! Congrats🥰

    I love the idea of shorter cabinet. Maybe a nice wood open shelf above the cabinet? So you have small cabinet for the ugly stuff, but an open shelf above for pretty decor and laundry suds in glass jars and soaps etc? That could look so good. Maybe a vintage callinger clothes ringer displayed, an antique flat iron, and a vintage washboard. May be too on the nose, but could also look really cute x

    I wasn't sure at first, but I think taking down the cabinet was the right way to go. It was visually heavy. I think this is a place where open shelving would be the right application, as you could use some wonderful baskets for practical storage while at the same time leave yourself space for a rotating visual display of art and objects. One needs inspiration even while doing something mundane like laundry, right?! 😊

    The tile work on your floor is beautiful! It worked out so well and really looks artisanal. If I were you, I'd paint strip that original railing to see what's under the layers of paint (it's possibly wrought iron) and either leave it in the original state if you like it, or paint it the same color as your walls. Otherwise, since you really like wood so much, you could have a custom built railing put in. For such a small piece, it probably wouldn't cost a tremendous amount.

    I think it's highly recommended to prime any drywall before painting it. Not only does it give your paint a better surface to adhere to, but it will also help prevent mold/mildew or bubbles from forming over the years. You should be fine, but it's something to be aware of. Anyway, your eye for design is spot on. Love the color! I can't wait to see how the finished space will look. ❤

    I love the curves in this space! Glad you removed the shelves and are highlighting them.
    When you are looking from the kitchen into the laundry area… I was thinking how cool it would look to have the far-back wall (looks like maybe the door to the back yard is on it) a slightly darker tone. It might be mission impossible to do that with the curved ceilings… but it would create a nice bit of visual interest on the right side of the arch as you look from the kitchen into that area.
    Something else to consider above the washer and dryer’s is a drying rack. I could see you repurposing something and giving it old world vibes. In my mind, your rounded cabinet could be used to store stuff and you could hid pods and stuff in canisters on the top of the counter above the machines. I would love to have a drying rack in my laundry and can totally envision it in your space.

    I like the school white color on the walls. The floor looks amazing. Question, how do you clean up the grout haze on tumbled tiles like these? Doesn't it like to sit in all the little nooks and crannies of the tile? I imagine, it's not as easy as doing it on smooth porcelain tile. On the cabinets I would say, have them at least tall enough to fit all your laundry bottles/boxes etc. It looks so much neater, than having them out in the open.

    That’s it. I need to do my laundry room! You’ve inspired me! And I’m in a rental!
    I’m just painting, though. I’ve got Behr’s Tanzanite blue. Yeah. It’s an exciting color! It’s been a bit of a storage area, so just painting and clearing out will be a big change.
    I painted my lower kitchen cabinets in Behr’s high gloss Carbon black. You inspired me to do the window trim, too. It’s gorgeous! 🤩
    If you can afford it, I think wrought iron would be a nice railing. It’s not a large area, so it might be doable.

    Yes I don't think you need a whole lot of cabinet space in the laundry room. It would depend on how many products you use. I personally use the laundry sheets and that's it. I have wool dryer balls if I use the dryer which is very rare. I just lay my stuff out on the ironing board laundry basket and bed. No scent Beads no softener no dryer sheets. Bravo on the floor tile.
