Thank you so much for your short comment on the 2.5 engine issues about topping off gas tank too much!!!! I did that all the time and that was causing a very intermittent but quite worry some engine shutoff & buck on in my 2013 golf, 2.5.
Honestly that may have saved me from seriously considering a new car, I say that because I knew it would be an endless rabbit hole of cost, time and frustration having a shop or dealer 'trying' to fix the issue.
I stopped squeezing that extra .5 gallons of gas in each fill up, replaced the N80 valve from Deutsche Auto Part and no check engine light and not a buck since!!!

This happened to me with my 3.0 A4 Cabrio. I filled up my tank and then my epic and check engine light came on.
i have a skoda with a 2.0t fsi, bwa motor. the other day i set off from some traffic lights smoothly and when i changed in to 3rd gave it full throttle, when the revs where about 4000 or so the car lurched as if i had jabbed on the brakes. i didn't notice any lights on the dash but it seemed the engine just stopped for a split second. any ideas before i take it to a garage.

Interesting...My EPC and check engine light came on same time. The car went into "limp" mode. I turned off the car waited and then turned it back on. The check engine light came back on but the EPC light stayed on. I put my scanner to see the codes. Scanner said cylinder#2. Now could this be a coil pack issue. Please advise. Ok, here’s a few things to potentially save you hundreds of dollars. Before you take your car in, buy a $60 scan tool and read the codes. Mine said “air fuel ratio imbalance”. I disagree that if the yellow engine light comes on, you should not drive the vehicle. Here’s why. This happened to both my 2012 A7 and 2015 Q3 - the yellow check engine light came on and I, wait for it………..first, removed the gas cap, pushed the rubber around the filler tube down hard away from the filler neck, checked the gas cap gasket and gas filler tube for dirt and cleaned the surfaces. Secondly, pull the oil cap and check for debris. Yes, you’ll find plenty of dirt and grime around there - clean the oil filler area and pull the rubber gasket off the oil cap, clean it with solvent, turn it over and replace the oil cap. Use a diagnostic tool you used to check the codes and erase the codes. Turn the car off and then on again and I’ll wait for you to respond to this post that it worked! It did for me……Good luck!

I too my car in and I was told they could not replicate the issues the codes pointed to and the light went away but now it’s back? 🤷🏽♀️ any suggestions?

I had the same issue last night , my battery drained N both epc and check engine light popped up . I changed the battery this morning . Epc light vanished , however check engine light stil ON. Car drives perfectly though with no any issues so far.
Same thing mine is doing. It just happened 30mins ago. The battery was dead on wife's car. Well, actually just super low, I jumped it, drove home, ran fine. I thought I'd drive and get a battery, got that then drove home. I figured it had fully charged the battery by then, and I thought I'd see if the car would restart, so I backed I to the drive to make it easy to jump just in case. I killed the motor. I went to restart it the motor came on fine but when it did all the lights came on. I changed the battery , all the lights are , a friend told me to drive it and it's clear most of them, I did and they all went out except for the motor check engine light. It doesn't go out. So I'm just wondering how to get rid of it.

Full tank of gas likely. Clean your throttle body and fuel injectors.

Real quick, so my 09 CC threw a couple fault codes for misfires on cylinder 1 and 3, as well as the multiple misfire detected code.
Here is the backstory...My car was due for its 120k maint, so I replaced all 4 spark plus with NGK Platinum. Two weeks later, When I get back from a work trip where my vehicle had set for 2 days in the parking lot...turn it on and the CEL is on. I throw a GeoTab in the vehicle and it reads off the fault codes as stated above for cylinder 1 and 3. I know I had just changed the plugs, so I pull them and there is loads of carbon built up, I check the gap (they were supposed to be pre-gaped) and sure enough they are at .028 instead of .032, so I gap them and reinstall.
Fast forward to 3 days ago, the CEL had still not cleared itself so I pulled the ignition coils and plugs. The plugs had a lot of carbon built up after just a couple days of driving, so I go to the parts store the next day and warranty the plugs and coils for cylinder 1 & 3. Installed new everything in the car...
Today I, It still feels like its riding rough...put the GeoTab back in the car...run the vehicle and sure enough 2 faults for cylinders 1 & 3. Pulled the plugs heavy carbon build up after one day...what do you know, they were gaped at .028....gap the plugs to the correct .032 and install. I have yet to do any more driving...the misfires are honestly hardly noticeable but having a CEL on drives me absolutely mad.
If this doesn't fix it...what is my next move? Sorry that was so long....

Being in America, I suppose this only applies to gas/petroleum spirit engine vehicles, as they have no diesels?
I have a diesel and the engine check light comes on intermittently stating a difference in readings from temperature sensors (engine/exhaust).
There is nothing wrong with the car, this only started after the VW Dieselgate cheat scandel when my VW had the 'cheat' software officially 'fixed' by VW.
So how do I reset the lights without paying for software and hardware to do it?

@@deejayyy1681 I have been advised from a very good, independent VW engineer, that the lights flash on because of a conflict in engine/exhaust system temperature sensors caused by build up of sooty deposits in exhaust gas recirculation valves, catalytic convertors and diesel particulate filters. I have been told to use 'premium' diesel which has cleaning chemicals to remove these sooty deposits. At the moment I am trying Jet 'Ultra' premium diesel, which costs about 20p a litre more. I know right? But I have only done around 200 miles on it so far and the lights still come on occasionally, so I think a couple of tanks full may see the change. I have however, already noticed better MPG.
@Zacheriah Starblaster yeah I'm gonna have to find a mechanic 😆 I actually notice my temp reading doesn't always reach normal operation 😅 like, if I'm decending down a mountain the temperature gets cold for some reason 🤷♂️ it's due for a timing belt service anyways. Gonna be a wallet draining trip in afraid 😨 maybe I'll trade it in for an allroad and really take a gamble 😆 🤣
@@deejayyy1681 If you are not using the accelerator pedal, the engine management system in modern cars will completely cut off fuel supply, so coasting down long hills will stop any fuel usage heating up the engine. Don't worry about this, it is normal.
Worth just trying the super duper premium diesel from your nearest supplier. Research it on the internet first and look for independent reviews. Good luck 😉
@Zacheriah Starblaster I live in California and make regular trips over Donner pass (some 7000 feet in elevation) it's 40 miles of downhill. I literally coast the entire stretch, occasionally downshifting for engine brakes. It's a fun ride. We don't really have diesel options here. We've got one pump at a station usually and that's it. The rest is gas. Heck, lots of stations don't even have diesel sometimes 🙄 still, I love my 2014 TDI wagon. My favorite car yet

Man, I got a vw Passat and the engine light keeps popping up. It turned out to be an issue with the manifold and that costed me $1000 to fix it. I am never getting a vw again.
I bought a code reader, $40. Was supposed to erase codes on my Passat 2008. It said it did but the error lights are still on. My car is at the dealer right now. Airbag recall. They are charging me $100 to diagnose, not fix, the errors on display: one after I got low consumption LEDs which the car identifies as blown lights (they told me that bc it is not factory lights there'll be an error). Sounds like BS to me. And low pressure on tires, which is a true error. Cant wait to find out what theyll charge.

@@joyjoyoo The lesson here is... I think if I had kept the original VW stereo, I would have access to the messages setup and erased them. Non-factory stereos don´t allow access to the setup. So the low tire pressure, which was false since the tires have the correct pressure, and LED errors, are both false, and will remain there forever more. I wont fix this since VW said the only error they care about, pretty much, is the check engine light being on.

They're under five bucks everywhere else. Fuel pump cam followers that wear out? No excuse for that. Coked up valves? Those went the way of the dinosaur and points and condensers. But good on ya. You've found yourself a profitable niche, and lifetime employment.

I have a VW JETTA WOLFBURGS LIMITED EDITION, 5 SPEED..High Performance extras etc. Car is running Great! Few days ago had my O2 Sensor replaced No problems since...Need to RESET ENGINE LIGHT ONLY. (AND NOT BY DISCONNECTING TERMINAL FROM BATTERy)

Ha ha ha...I've got a 5008 hdi 150 bhp with...245.000 miles...yes miles ...and ..000000 problems. No electric problems no faulty problems...
No clutch problems, no turbo problems no oil leack... definitely PSA engines are more reliable on these days.

My Jetta TDI will be sold back to VW this fall, what rubbish, ask me about EGR valves, HPFP failure, to name a few. LOL, what is the point of a regeneration cycle when you buy diesel for "mileage"? Yeah.... those amazing engineers made a diesel particulate filter that is non-changeable.... but buy what ever makes you feel good. Me and my wife have great jobs, so we are going for another Toyota to add to our Lexus and Tacoma. Last car I ever buy designed in Europe and built in Mexico. My cars better be all Japanese unless I can find a Merc W124 diesel, as my Albanian mechanic says.

So many check engine issues with Audi’s!!! My R8 v10 was a 7k mile used purchase. Cleared by Audi PPI. WITHIN SEVEN DAYS...Non stop check engine lights. Nobody can fix it so o drive it and ignore the light now Lololol. Never knowing when this thing will blow up and take me with it
