I would like to thankyou, for the well done video. May your days be blessed!
Great video. A few years ago, I had an 2002 A4 1.8TQMS and had a vacuum leak the dealer tech had difficulty finding. Ultimately they had to do a remote connection with Audi in Auburn Hills MI to diagnose. I got the impression from that experience that looking vacuum leaks on the 1.8T was challenging. You make it easy. I'll have to look up what they found.
Thank you so much for sharing your expertise with us, nice, logical way to use troubleshoot
Great video. This was posted last year! I found the t-connector on a vacuum line under the coolant bottle was cracked. I got a very expensive replacement from VW that was aluminum instead of plastic. My own fault for being lazy and having Valvoline do an oil change.....
You should call this fuel trim troubleshooting, Just did this on my audi TT. It was vacuum leaks as usual. Thanks again for a great video!
I love my 04' Passat GLS. Has the 1.8T Four Motion 5-Speed and the interior is in great shape. Had this issue last summer and was able to find that the T shaped hose that comes out from the pcv valve was cracked. Had replaced that one part but luckily I now found a affordable hose kit which I will make sure everything else is replaced just in case. Saved me alot of money because I already replaced the throttle body & had it reprogrammed. She now runs smooth as silk. Even quieter than my mah's 2014 Fiesta Titanium... 👍
Really appreciate you taking the time to share this video and your expertise. Well done. Great camera work and solid explanations. I have a Jetta K2, also known as the Wolfsburg Edition. Thinking of buying a VCDS. Any recommendation?
Ericthecarguy used to be my go to guy with any automotive issue I couldn't figure out myself. His channel actually kept me wrenching when I didn't want to but now Charles is my guy. Humble mechanic is the correct name for you sir. I've worked in a few shop settings and wish I knew guys who were more easy going like these guys. I try to emulate a little bit of you both in myself. Keep up the good work. Your channel is the reason I bought my Jetta
Thank you! That means the world to me.
@@HumbleMechanic I’ve got a MK4 golf 1.9 TDI and the check engine light does not illuminate when cycling the key or when there is a fault as I found out when it was running rough
@@HumbleMechanic I have a 2014 Jetta with 145k miles and have had the emissions replaced years ago. Recently had code P2BA6 w/ CEL and I have not had any luck solving the issue with my VCDS. I have forced a regen recently with the dpf light coming on, the only thing I can see is that the egr settings are at 4.60 and actual is a bit higher at 4.65-4.70. Is this what is causing my CEL? Need EGR? Thank you in advance.
I've seen these break so many times man. You can actually get that block breather in metal instead of plastic and run a catch can instead of replacing all those old lines. I did it on my Mk4 Gti and it made a huge difference and I haven't had a problem since. Anyway love the videos man keep up the good work!
+R. Carter I got the 034 motorsports kit.
nice man youll be happy with it for sure
Great informational videos. Thank you
I've had my 2010 VW New Beetle 1.6L since 2011 and its been going great with minor issues. I recently experienced the "Check Engine" light and the car was still running well although I only drive it once a week. As there were limited service centres opened due to the pandemic, I couldn't send it for inspection until a week later when there was stiffness on the brake pedal. Upon inspection the mechanic discovered that it was due to a faulty brake booster vacuum hose/valve. Do take precaution.
Hi, your videos are always cool to watch and very helpful. I have a check engine light come on today when driving home in my 2009 VW Tiguan 2.0 T, stopped at the parts store and had a reading done, the code it gave them was P2015. I was wondering if you had any videos on this code and how to fix it. Thanks again, peace Tear
Humble mechanic i have a question i need some advice i have a 08 civic 1.8 lighter i have no engine light or code but on my scanner i went to the monitors it says for the catalyst bank 1 it says system to rich does this mean its my fuel pump im new at this
nice video.have u ever used a smoke machine into intake system to detect leaks
This was a great video man! Thanks!
Could you do one on the Hell that comes with a 1.4 TSI engine? hehe!
Does anybody else like a video from their fave RUclipsrs before they watch it, because you know it's going to be great? 😂
I appreciate ya man.
BTW, great videos! Keep 'em coming!
I have a 2009 audi a4 2.0 tfsi, we got the car with failed tensioner and replaced timing set, head gasket, all intake valves, oil control valve and magnet, cam bridge, cam sensor and crank sensor, now im getting a code p00341 and intermittent epc light flashing on occasion? Any ideas.
Hi, i need help, i own 2003 passat 4motion automatic, should i change the transmission fluid or not ?
thanks You for your videos, can you please send me a video of how to erase the tire pressure on 2010 VW. GTI
don't see any reset button on this car, Thanks You for your time.
This is really helpful. Thanks for the video. My A4 1.8T is having EPC and CEL lights, I suspect a result of not fixing the CEL the EPC has arrived and by the sounds of it the cat sounds very rattly when revs drop down.
I've tried MAF, Throttle, Crank sensor, Throttle air sensor. But haven't really looked at much of the PCV as it was all replaced relatively recently.
Basically it starts ok and feels relatively fine until hitting 2k revs and then limps into idle mode and sounds like its dying. EPC light stays on and goes away on restart.
I've got a video showing my issue if you fancy helping :)
very well explained
Nice to see the process and how you would use VCDS alongside an inspection to find this. I don't think there is anyway I would attempt a DIY on this due to the spaghetti of lines in there!
Thanks man. The DIY is turning out to be a super pain in the ass. Hahah gonna hopefully finish the repair tonight.
That was alot of helpful tips. I'm a new technician so this will definitely help thank you.
+Nestor Salvatierra SWEET! If you have any specific questions let me know.
+HumbleMechanic thank you 👍
How to fix this breakdown.Cornering light (AFS) failure Owner's manual
Ok I have a 2009 vw Tiguan 2.0t my check engine light started to flash along with engine fault workshop light whenever I accelerate and my car shakes when I put a certain amount of pressure on the pedal stops when I take my foot off the pedal please help me find da wae to help me figure out what's wrong idk if it's throttle body or the vaccums.
Brain power the best tool of course updated with good videos
My check light just come on my car and when scan it with my vcds it is telling me performance malfunction in the cooling system with a fault code of 11101000. Have a 2006 jetta 2.5 could possible help me out here on what could be the problem?
Awesome video. Only thing I'd like to add might be some overlay highlights for the components you're discussing just for visual aid :)
It's tough on that engine. Everything is so buried under the intake.
Hi HumbleMechanic - just got a CEL reading for my Eurovan 2000 of P0705 (Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction). What's your thoughts? Thanks in advance.
hey man.. love your videos so far. I have a 2012 GTi MK6 TSI 2.0. It was given to me with about 130K miles. I've had it for 2 years. Only mechanical issues I've had since were a bushing that didn't allow the shift knob to get in 2nd and 4th gear and a fan that went out. Well, at least the issues I've addressed. I'll get into the few others on another one of your videos. Ever since I had the car the check engine light has been a solid yellow. I asked about it and the car has been tuned and the catalytic converter was removed. I'm not familiar with the tuning side of things but was told the reason for CEL being on was no catalytic converter. My concern is if I have another issue how would I know with the CEL always being lit. Is there a way to bypass and clear that so absence of a catalytic conv. won't trigger the CEL? I'm at a loss with this one.. Appreciate your input. Thanks

Hello My Friend, Can you give me a clue, how do i disable my private VAN VW 2008 CADDY please.
*Good choice of car Mr H, I got one too same year. What's your mileage? I'm only asking as mine has done 247000 and it's still awesome with almost all the horses still in stable! It still sounds as awesome as it did ten plus years ago. Bomb proof they say, almost an understatement. Regular oil changes and they go forever.*
Hey I have a code for a p1287 and I can't figure out what it's for I have a 1.8t Jetta
helpful info Thanks
Hi, thank you for your help teaching us about our cars. I need help, and if you would be so kind. I have a 2013 Jetta that started to shake a lot and the check engine light blinked rapidly and there was lots of raw fuel smell. I shut the car off and waited for some minutes then I started it again and it seamed to be working good. I then headed to my local autozone auto parts. I had it check with my local autozone obd2 and it had multiple cylinders misfire but no codes. It suggested to check vacuum leakage. I did and. Then I drove it once more and it repeated the same situation where the care misfired multiple cylinders and I stoped and waited again. I then desired to take it to the dealer to have it checked. The dealership suggested to have the spark plugs, coil pack and spark plug cables replace and then check again. I did the work except I changed the ignition coil, spark plugs, spark plug cables and I also cleaned the throttle body lightly. Now there is no check engine light on but the car does not perform as it used to. It runs good but it does not have the power as before the incident. Any help that you can provide will be very much appreciated!!!! Thank you sorry for the long story.
Kyra lima, how much was your repair for that
03 jetta 2.0. Changed plugs and wires. At idle it shutters and while driving its misfiring. Check engine light flashes I assume when the misfire is happening. Would it most likely be the coil? Original coil 235k on it. All the vacuum lines look crappy. Could it be a combo of both of those things?
Yes change your coils and vacuum lines
Perfect vid, it's very had with most new engines to get cameras in to see things, have you thought about a cheap borescope that hooks up to a laptop ? so u can get a bit better view for these How to vids?
I have a suck borescope. I got another one on the way.
My epc light turned on my Volkswagen Beetle is it bad
VW 2009 CC w/ 105K miles. CEL been on/off for a while with misfires and today when it came back on I saw P0171 and P12A2 (Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Inappropriately high). Still sound like vacuum leak or sensor problem, like thrust sensor or high pressure fuel pump? Need a full diag and need to buy new VagCom
Two easy way to find vacuum leaks is with a stethoscope with the end removed so all you have is the hose leading to your ears. you can really pinpoint an audible leak that way. Also carb cleaner works good for giving you an ideal where to look. by spraying it around the engine, you will usually hear the engine pick up speed of smooth out when you hit the area of the leak.
What if my tiguan vw epc light comes on brand new throttle body and throttle pedal, brand new fuse and Epc light still pops on
So just a run down, I have a 2012 VW jetta gli 2.0 turbo dohc 6 speed transmission, we've replaced ignition coils, spark plugs, fuel filter, had injectors cleaned, still runs like crap. Engine runs rough, like it needs a tune up, we buy only OEM parts. Engine light blinks a few seconds then stays on when we start it up. I've had it coded and comes up port 2, 3, 4 are failing, but We replaced the spark plugs with OEM.
What if there is no lean condition at idle but there is at highway speeds and especially under acceleration?
Basic Settings 107 is great for funding vacuum leaks on those older engines
107 is good too. There are a number of MVB that can be used.
Charles, I have similar codes on my 2009 gti (tsi) to what you've got. I have not noticed any change in my idle speed, but the code is there for a high idle. I also have codes for a lean condition. I've gone through and checked everything by hand, haven't found a weak link. I also recently replaced my whole pcv system (valve and hoses) due to my rear main seal failing, and still have the lean/high idle codes. Any advice on where I should look next? I've had a few technicians check out the car at the dealership I work at, and they've all been stumped by it too. There is really no drivability issue with the car, but I'm getting tired of looking at the MIL on the dash all the time. I love your videos man, thanks for making them!
Any other oil leaks? On that car you have to be sure you have good fuel too.
+HumbleMechanic Thanks for the response! No more oil leaks after the new rear main and oil pan.. I usually run 92 octane pump gas or 101 race gas. The car runs awesome at full throttle and idles well too. This CEL is driving me crazy.
Fyi. I had a 95 VW Cabrio. I wanted to run a diagnostic check. Nobody could find where the plug in was for the OED (?) meter. It's in center console, very bottom, you have to slide a plastic square over to expose the plug. 1 1/2 square piece. looks like part of the console, but, it's a door. I Loved that little car.
Is blue driver as good as Vagcom? I’m thinking of getting an obd2 scanner. Where can I get vagcom connector?
Yes and no. Bluedriver is great and it works on almost all cars. But you can't talk to all modules in all cars. VCDS only really works on VAG cars. But it will do almost everything the OEM Scan tool will do.

I have the code p050A. I have Been struggling for a mont in and out of different mechanic. Just wondering where is the good place to start. I’m trying to fix by my self
Thanks very much

Can u make video on how to adapter amplifier or component protection removal on 2008 Audi Q7 with VCDS
You can't do it with VCDS. much be ODIS or another scanner capable of calling the VW mother ship.
Yeah I've done a few of those PCV hoses before. Where do you get your info for which measuring blocks to use on VCDS? From their website or just by playing with it? I have learnt a lot messing with it but I feel I'm just scraping the surface of what this software is capable of, and would like to learn more about it features. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Much of my knowledge of using VCDS comes from the years of diagnostic tests on VWs at the dealer. Back before the GFF tests when you had to know what you were looking for and remember the fields.
+HumbleMechanic thanks, yeah I think I will just keep playing with it and learn as I need to and as jobs come up! Great show, I just recently came across you and subscribed straight away. I used to live in the UK and was involved in the VW scene but was out of it for a few years when I moved to the us. I worked as a dealer tech in the uk but have now moved away from that field and intend to keep cars as a hobby in the future. Bought a 2014 GTI last year and am quickly remembering what I live about VW. Any ways, awesome show, keep it up and I look forward to 2016 with Humble Mechanic.
What is you can not establish combination
i have 2 codes
1: p0102(maf low input volume)
2: p0299(turbo low boost)
any advice i cant find a boost leak anywhere
What car?
03 passat AWM 1.8t
Maybe a failing MAF. also be sure to check the PCV hoses I showed here
+HumbleMechanic maf has been changed 2 times I have a factory Bosch maf I'm going to put In to see how it works
Where is the port to plug into in the vw cc 2012? The obd
below the dash. Go to the light switch its aligned with that, but under the dash
Charles..... how do you not have any tools at home?? when I was a tech I always made sure to have basic tools at home with some carb clean! ;-)
Whats the part Number of the piece you broke..
Very Helpful video ! what % numbers should be normal-ish for a FSi engine(idle & under boost) ? Thnaks
Perfect world would be zero and zero.
thanks !
+Gli_Fahrenheit not a prob
HumbleMechanic
Hey man i did some logging and my (partial) goes all the way to -11.3%. The (idle) is only -2.7%. no Cel just one code - Boost pressure drop from turbo to throttle body. at 1396 rpm @54km/h. Any ideas on the problem ? i did a boost leak check and no leaks were found, and the car seems to runs great.
Thanks for all the help ! :)
Do you have any videos on the epc light
I had the EPC light on and changing the crankshaft position sensor fixed this for me. Super easy repair.
Its usually crank sensor, throttle or coil pack.
99 passat automatic dowk shift in st hard and will not go in overdrive, and were pnd432 does not show what gear your in
First of all you have a cool beard and how long have you been growing it. I'm going to buy a 1997 Volkswagen Rialta RV. The seller says it has a check engine light that is on. Is there a way to check it manually something like turning on and off the key three times they're turning the key to the on position and pressing certain buttons do you do you know anything about this
Changed o2 sensor check engine light stays on. VW says, other manufacturers, parts will not work in vw's. parts dealer won't take the parts back. Whats up! is that true? Can't get the car inspected.
Have you cleared the fault yet?
NO but we have an appointment on Friday with a mechanic who may work with us.
That's what happened with my crankcase ventilation hose on my 1.8T
My 2006 Passat check engine started to flash and the car was shaken really bad feeling like it was gonna shut down. What does this mean every time I go to a local mechanic they always kinda screw me over with being a girl going alone. Not to long ago I went for my horn in which costed me 500 total to fixed well then they said they couldn't fix only vw so I went vw cost another 162 to be seen then they told me 800 to fix the horn :( in other words I just wanna know from your point of view could this be a coil gone bad or is the engine going ?
Hi, i have the same problem, did you fix it?
+Khadraoui Med Moktar yes I did it was the coils all 4 so I changed them and so far good
FYI flashing check engine light means severe misfire.
Vcds
So if my short term is -6.25 and long term is -18.75 is this my in tank fuel pump issue for am I looking at vacuum leak
Probably neither. your ECM is taking fuel away from the system. Typical with those failures you mentioned you are adding fuel
Ok so where do I start
I got p0171
Fuel rail pressure is 5160 kpa
07 passat 2.0t
Ahh the good old 1.8T PCV system. Gotta love it. Or hate it.
+Chester Wardan Up until this one, I loved them. Replacing mine turned out to be a huge pain. The first one I have had to remove the intake to get it fixed. LOl
Wow you had to dig deep. I haven't had to go quite that involved yet, but I could see in some situations where you would have to.
05 Audi A4 tsi codes 1217,1218,770?
I have a 1999 TDI new beetle Manuel bug which I love but it has recently started up then died do you or anyone else have this problem? It’s been in my drive way for 2 months it won’t run. I miss my car
Hi! What are you using for filming? Is it some sort of glasses?
The main camera I use it a Canon T3i. I also use a cheap canon camcorder and my IPhone.
+HumbleMechanic thank you!
are the Diverters prone to failure?..... heck are the SMIC's prone to failure
+J MR the only SMIC failure I've seen is impact damage.
These DV do fail. But not nearly as much as BPY valves. Even the Mk4 cars had more failures
Thanks for the reply brother, you mean the DV's on the BPY 2.0TSI? Gotta love acronym LOL... Would have thought VW would have made and improvement in a newer engine. I think i may be losing boost between 4-5 grand. 3rd gear at 70mph seems like dog years to get to 80mph. decent punch at 3-4k.
Really like the content!!! Subbed for sure!!!
I have a 2002 Fresco Sedan AWM 5MT FWD. Ill post a pic on your FB page!!...
I have a bunch of crap to get through on this bucket...and being a son of a truck/coach/auto mechanic, all his skills rubbed off... as did his ability to procrastinate on LOL...
I've had downstream SAIP and O2 -Downstream efficiency codes for 2 years... (Still get 23city/28hwy).
-A/C inop (but holds charge).
-3/4 door drivers are blown LOL.
-Tranny is clicks in 1st/reverse engagement.
Other then that its a reliable daily driver that just needs a bit of TLC. I'll definitively stay tuned!!!
"oops, that's a piece of the engine in my hand" :D
+Guillermo Lovato LOL, It really caught me by surprise.
HumbleMechanic
it made for an interesting point, "hidden" stuff faults are not as interesting as when you pull a large piece of rotten hose from the engine(and it keeps running)
P0304
Cc 2012 engine shakes and loss of power
Misfire in #4
Could be as simple as a coil
They really used some crappy plastic in 05 VW's.I replaced the glow plug wiring harness in my TDI Jetta and wire loom turned to dust in my hands.I've never seen such brittle crappy plastic as I have in that car.
My audi 1.8T engine doesn't start.Cranking is very weak on new battery, i'm getting following codes:

Being just a little mechanically minded - what can be wrong? The alternator? cables? connectors?
well, i always wanted a GTI. then I found a 1999 with 120k, for $900, well, I figured the motor, 2.0 gas was going to go soon, it got a transmission rebuild summer of 2017, and 4 struts / springs, new brakes, 11/2017, as my luck would have it, engine started dropping lots of oil, a month and 250 miles after I bought it....How much is entailed in putting a 2.8 vr6 into it, I can get a salvage engine for 950.00, 150.00 more a 4 year 60k mile parts and labor warranty. do I have to get a whole new engine harness, it isn't a daily driver., I have a obscenely expensive maintainance hog of a engineered like no other pile of shit on the road G500 for that....every trip to MB a minimum of 3500.00, I feel ass raped every time I go to the dealer, the GTI is pocket change
Carb cleaner on a hot engine = fire. test only when engine is still cold
Possible, but has yet to happen to me. We have to use a little sense when doing these things
At some point ? These cars already come with a CEL coming off the truck.
That’s actually true. Most will have the mil on due to being in transport mode.
That's what we always say in the shop. It's funny but not for the customer.
LOL, no it's not.
A bit confusing video, may be you have accelerated turbo when you explain 🤔
Modern cars are so hard to fix
In some ways, but in other ways, we have access to more information than ever before.
I was looking at vagcom and then i saw something that was up for sale on ecstuning.
Could you do a side by side review of Vagcom compared to the Professional VAG Scan Tool?
Here is a link for you to take a look: www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-Quattro-V6_30v/ES2996394/
+edgeofvamp I would love to test it out. If the folks at ECS want to send me one I would be happy to do a video on it. I have had mixed luck working with them over the years. Perhaps if you guys reach out to them. That would have way more pull than if I ask them .
+HumbleMechanic Sorry about the delay, due to a bad snow storm here i lost power for 19hrs.
I will send them a message and see what comes of it. If they decide against it, would you be willing to use mine for the side x side?
I looked into Ross-Techs VCDS and the steep cost for the enthusiast version was a bit much to live with for use on 1 Audi.
So when i found the tool with ECS and shaving up to $150 off was more palpable. Not to mention that the tool is programmed to work with domestics also, so it works with the rest of the line up in my driveway.
So ultimately, it would be great to see from a techs perspective what the limitations/capabilities are and if it would make a proper alternative to those on a tighter budget.
unplug the battery for 1min and plug it back on boom engines light check gone simple😍
That wont work on most modern VWs. The light will be on until you clear it, or the system runs 3 passes in a row.
@@HumbleMechanic it works on my 2003 vw gtx turbo supercharge😁
I just sell the car when the light comes on and avoid the head aches
smoke machine will be good and easy
Your fun light ,voice inflection doesn't match the detailed intelligent auto tech brain you so selfishly share THANKS
HAHHA, Thanks? :)
Think he meant selflessly?
If you burn down a tree or spill 30gallons of oil in the sea the check engine light will stop showinh
later on I'll show you how to diagnose a car without an engine scanner. it's called common sense. spark Fuel and compression everything else is bullshit. Even on Volkswagen... interesting fact though, car still run without computers.
