  • City fly fishing is possible, and can be rather fun. Today was not the most productive day, but its nice to not have to drive a long way to a fishing spot. Living near a city, fishing on week days would not be possible without little parks like this. It would be almost impossible to drive out to some of the rivers or larger lakes on a week day when I know I have to pick my kids up from school early afternoon. While you will never catch amazing sized bass or anything at a little city park like this, and almost always the river is over fished, you can bet that its still a fun day whether its super productive or not. Many city lakes and rivers have nice carp, bass, and other fish like the Rio I caught today in the water systems so it still can be a surprising day catching fish even without having to drive to secluded locations miles and miles away.
As I stated, the rod I was fishing with is called the Genesis and its made by Risen Fly. Its an amazing setup for the price and I highly recommend checking it out. Here is a link to their website if your interested. And make sure you type in McFly at checkout for 15% off. www.risenfly.c...

Do it! Of course make sure you obey all the laws and signs. If a stretch says no fishing then don’t fish.

Might want to try putting a white egg in your fly box. When they want bread, I have caught a few on a white egg. Also works on carp that like bread. Hope it helps.

I think the first video of yours I saw was you fishing here. It encouraged me to fly fish urban areas around Houston when I lived there rather than waiting for winter trout stocking on the Guadalupe. It increased my chances to fly fish and have fun trying new techniques and species. Thank you.

Glad I could help! Yeah urban areas still have decent fishing. Not as fun for sure as some other places but still good to fish. Catch any nice ones around Houston?

@@McFlyAngler Yes, caught Tilapia, Guadalupe Ciclid, Gar, catfish, sunfish, crappie, striped, small and large mouth bass in bayous and residential “lakes” around Katy. The biggest large mouth bass I ever caught was in a residential lake about a block from my house that I ignored for 10 years! Now I’m blue lining the hills of Tennessee for native Brooke Trout and wild rainbows but still go to creeks within two miles of the house for bluegill and small mouth bass. Living in the area you probably know about Brushy Creek in Round Rock. If not Living Waters Fly Shop can hook you up. Good fishing!

You should try downtown by the river authority it’s right there by the flats of Southtown and Habitat for Humanity. It’s a good spot

If you put your thumb on top of the cork grip, your game will improve. The thumb is kinda the driving force behind a fly cast. It's really the gas pedal sort a speak. I'm not having a go, just trying to help. Gripping the rod like a golf club is not going to do you any favors. I see you struggling with your roll cast, this will help.
