    French Viewer here : The Gasly "Incident" made sense after hearing from him on french TV. In his eyes, he qualified higher, was in front in the race, the team then allows Ocon to undercut him, Ocon then let him through later on to go and try to chase Alonso, Pierre didn't manage to but felt like he had earned the rights to be ahead anyway because of the overall week-end, plus he was on fresher tyres than Ocon in the end. I'm not saying Pierre is right or Ocon is right, just Pierre's frustrations make a lot more sense than we initially thought

      Yea, I still don’t really think that warrants a full on tantrum. I agree Gasly should’ve kept the P9, but it’s is only a P9. It’s something you can hold in your frustration for the private debrief.

      - The team then allows Ocon to undercut him...?
      Ocon had to box on lap 1 because he had a puncture.
      What does Gasly expect.... for Ocon to do as many laps on a set of hards as Gasly on a set of mediums and hards together???
      It's pretty flippin obvious Ocon had to stop earlier to get his second set of hards.
      It was just Gasly behaving like the frustrated little child he is, as usual.
      Completely blowing a gasket over 1 point smh.

      Gasly was faster than Ocon and would pass him on track anyway, the call to replace them at the end was so disrespectful but I dont expect more from toxic bond of alpine and ocon when it comes to respect

      @hiufgterde Год назад +8

      They already took action by bringing in DR. They have a plan. They want someone who is comfortable driving the RB car and who is closer to Max, DR has proven that in the past. And if you can't deal with the pressure, like Checo for instance, you won't be in that seat for long. Checo knows he is done, he made too much of a mess and it doesn't seem to get any better as the season progresses. So then it's pretty clear for RB they need to act. It's not a given RB will be as dominant next year so they need someone who is more reliable and brings in the points. Checo is still in second place because the gap is so big to the other teams. And yet Lewis is already closing in on him, in the Mercedes...that is insane! If other cars were closer he would have been even further off and then he becomes a risk. So for next year they can't take that risk, therefore he will be replaced. There is no other outcome.

    Checo and Logan seem to be having their own competition - who can crash the most. Maybe Lawson should get a go in the other RB seat but I don't think I'd wish that on anyone. Going against Max as a driver is one thing, but having all the Horner-Marko as well could be too much. Or better DR to RB and give Lawson a proper year at AT.

    • @rars0n
      @rars0n Год назад +2

      Danny probably should be in that seat, especially because Perez no longer deserves it. I think the problem is that Danny has already signed a contract with AT for next year though, so it ain't gonna happen until 2025 at the earliest.
      If I'm Red Bull, I *don't* want to put a rookie in that seat, if only because Max will eat them alive. Going with a rookie would only make sense to grow them into their potential, and while Red Bull has plenty of talent waiting in the wings, it's going to take a very resilient driver to be able to do that under Max. Ricciardo is a seasoned veteran, he knows how to deal with Max, so he'd be a perfect option. Albon could probably do well, but I think he's better off staying with Williams and helping them grow their team, and I think he suits their car very well.
      I think Ricciardo's time at McLaren shows that it's more than just driver talent at play, it's also about matching the driver to the abilities of the car. I think both driver and car can benefit from stability rather than just jumping around from team to team every time an opportunity arises.

    Red Bull also won the driver championship this weekend, with Perez being the only one to challenge Max now. And that would basically mean Verstappen gets no points anymore for the rest of the season.
    Hamilton in third cannot get enough point anymore to pass Verstappen, so if Perez fails it will automatically be Verstappen. Therefore Red Bull already has its hands on both championships.

    Perez reminds me, in a way, of Juan Pablo Montoya, when he was in Formula 1...
    A Dutch commentator described Montoya as having a marble in a shallow bowl inside his head.
    As long as verything was going well for him, the marble would stay inside the bowl and he'd be brilliant!
    Great overtakes, exiting, daring and unscrupulous!
    But when something would happen that somehow ticked him off, that marble would roll from the bowl and he would just fall apart... making stupid mistakes, horribly misjudging situations and needlessly getting into accidents and crashes.
    Checo is the same! When everything suits him, he's doing great! A very good solid driver, very much capable of winning races.
    But when something puts him off, he completely falls apart and the normally quite intelligent driver turns into a clueless "torpedo".
    Maybe *that* was what Helmut Marko clumsily tried to convey a few weeks ago... "His emotional nature sometimes gets the better of him... "

What has George done that says he's a #1 driver? I think Hamilton said it best when talking about driver points, "It's not even close." George only had the benefit in 2022 because Lewis was doing a lot of the experimental work and radical setups to help understand the woeful car. George is not Lewis' heir apparent. A problem we have in judging whether Checo can stay or not is 'Does Red Bull care about the Constructors'.
    In 2021 Max won the Drivers, but Mercedes won the Constructors, and the reactions from both sides showed which championship was more important. Red Bull were celebrating with Max despite having lost the Constructors, while Merc 'celebrated' winning there 8th consecutive Constructors Championship by angrily hunting down Michael Masi after his controversial decisions arguably cost Hamilton the Drivers.
    Abu Dhabi 2021 exposed what we all deep down have always known, the Constructors doesn't matter and all that matters to the big teams is the Drivers Championship. As long as Max wins the Drivers Championship it doesn't really matter where Checo finishes. As a result, does it really matter who sits in the other Red Bull car.

Let me pass my teammate, tell my teammate not to pass me, if you don't let me finish ahead of my teammate I'll have a tantrum. Nearly all the drivers do it now except for the Haas guys and it's so weak.

    I must admit that the thought that Perez was trying to get himself sacked went through my mind more than once. Underwhelming in quali (again), the incident at the start (though tbh, he was pushed from the right into Hamilton, two penalties because of mistakes/bad driving... Three noses! I did wonder if they'd have any left for Max should someone he was lapping (Perez?) do something stupid.
    Genuine question here: do you think he's trying to trigger a contract clause which states they have to give him money to go away, as opposed to him needing to pay them if he wants to leave before his contract runs out?
    Before Singapore, that hadn't entered my head. I'd thought he was just trying too hard to keep up with Max. That came from an interview on Channel 4 _in Austria_ with Horner, who said that they were trying to get him to recognise that he'd already essentially screwed himself over regarding the championship, so take it easy and second place in said championship should come naturally to him (needless to say I'm paraphrasing and Horner was a lot more tactful than me). He was saying that there were possible wins available for him _if_ he didn't keep falling off the track (he has/had been free to race Max, at least in the first half of the season).
    The media aren't helping - as usual - by speculating about his future (I'm not the media and he won't be reading this comment!), undoubtedly piling up more pressure on him. And he has the weight of the expectations of an entire country on top of him, which can't be helping. I'm afraid that he's cracked, or getting close to it, and he's not up for it any longer. This is a sad thought and not one I am saying with a single iota of pleasure. But he's not doing himself any favours, and he's reminding me of Danny Ric at McLaren. Only I don't think he's got an old team ready to help him out in the way RB has done for Danny. 🙁

    • @MooneJay20
      @MooneJay20 Год назад

      @@peterkitts8815I think it should depend on when the penalty was issued. If the driver gets penalized while out on track, and fails to serve the penalty, then it should go to the next race as a grid drop. If they get a penalty after returning to the garage, they should get an opportunity to go back out on track and serve the penalty within a certain amount of laps completed by the leader, and once that lap limit is up, then it goes to the next race. Or something like that.
      This is assuming that 1) the rules should be changed (I honestly don’t think they should, this is just an idea for if it does get changed), and 2) the car makes it back to the grid on its own merit and not with intervention by track marshals or other drivers or whatever.

    • @mrthewhite2620
      @mrthewhite2620 Год назад +1

      Do you do the same thing for drivers finishing 11th or lower since they're not getting penalized if they drop from 11 to 12? What about if the driver is 10 sec ahead and gets a 5 sec penalty? They're "not being penalized" either. Reality is there have always been penalties that were meaningless within the context of the race they were given, this is just another one.

      @@peterkitts8815 I personally think it's inappropriate for a car to go back on track once they are over 2 laps down. In order to catch up they would require a red flag or similar intervention, so I think they'd just be driving hundreds of kilometres for no reason.

    In other words, correctly predicting 1st and 2nd would give 3 points. Correctly predicting the full top 3 would give 5 points.

No one asks how and why u got beaten by your team mate at the end of the year. No ones gonna remember "ah yes Gasly is only one point down compared to Ocon because he let him through in Suzuka."
    Only thing anyone's ever gonna remember and notice is who beat who in the team mate comparison.

    Thanks guys for the good discussion. The discussion brought me to the realization - Valtterie Bottas would be the perfect teammate to Verstapen. He is okay with being 2nd and a big team player and would be consistently on the first row. Hamilton/Russel, Lecler/Sainze, Hamilton/Bottas - show that a solid number 2 with a young superstar (Versttapen) is the winning package. Riccaridio would have a hard time being a team player and has been up and down. Liam /Tsunoda are too big a risk for now.

He came out; did one lap and come in; he directly switched off his engine and his team touched the car immediately without waiting for 5 seconds. Wonder if the rule is something like: if you get a penalty after DNF, then it will be transformed into a grid penalty. Then by driving after getting te penalty he could nullify it.
