Piastri is amazing, but his competition sucked. Luckily, his junior formula competition doesn’t matter when he’s doing fantastic in F1. There’s always been an F2 even if it was called something else. So, it makes no sense to put F2 into its own box.

Well, here in Spain, Fernando is more than a driver. He is an icon and his fans are beyond loyal and passionate.
In a country that loves football and has guys like Nadal, the biggest movement around and athlete goes to Fernando by a wide margin.
Carlos is oftenly criticized and meme material and he is not close at all to Alonso BUT we love him too and as soon as he recovers (first half of 2022 was really harsh) people will support him like in the McLaren days, maybe more. The support he got during Monza weekend was unreal.

If I was RBR I would make a go for Piastri over Norris, for the simple fact that the team needs to start thinking not only of having a power pairing, but of grooming not a competitor but a SUCCESSOR for Max. It’s not too early, not at all and Max loves Motorsport not just F1 and has made that clear.

But it has been 2 years without racing. I still think he could be a great driver for Ferrari's Hypercar team as he always showed how consistent and how few mistakes he did or that he could be a good driver at Indycar or Formula E. They have a 10+ year age gap, and people will take his losses against Lewis as "what did you expect, he's a 7×wdc" while he learns from Lewis. Nico didn't have that, him and Lewis were relatively the same age, and Nico got his heir of Mercedes got taken by Lewis, if he let Lewis win, it was game over.

He's both underrated and overrated by fans here in Spain. There are fans that say that he is nowhere near Charles and others that say that he is the N°1 driver.
But after Fernando retires, he will be, without a doubt, the star of Spain in F1, and not because of his surname. Also, there are not many spanish young talents in F2, F3 and FRECA, maybe just Pepe Marti but he doesn't seem to be a top future star.

They actually were (sort of) teammates back in 2018 (in the Daytona 24h). Alonso was a McLaren driver at the time, and Norris was a McLaren junior who was about to step into F2. Zak Brown decided to put them in his LMP2 team (United Autosports) alongside a young endurance racer named Phil Hanson (who's still racing for United Autosport).
That's the closest we've ever been to a Lando-Nando driver pairing. Seeing it in F1 would be great.

I'd love to see a Fernando Lando pairing, the 2 seem to have a really good a respectful relationship. They shared a car at Daytona in 2018, Fernando seemed to be pretty good to Lando during the Mclaren transition. Seeing them race each other last year in the 1v1 Alpine VS Mclaren fight that they had showed they can race each other respectfully and on similar pace. Either that or a Lando Lewis pair, again alot of respect there that i think would stay good.

As a George fan, this is spot on. People have short but very selective memories. Is he having a great season? No. Does that take away his talent? Absolutely not. Can he improve? Yes.
George is still a very talented driver, he won F2 in 2018, he dragged that Williams to places it shouldn't have been and got Mercedes' only win last year.
He will bounce back, I'm confident of that.

I'm not entirely sure if everyone will get behind Carlos once Fernando retires, because there has been an influx of spanish fans as of recently, and most of them have quickly become Alonso fanatics. I don't think it will be quite the same, but it will still be nice to have a spaniard there regardless

Might need to tone down the recency bias a bit mate. Russell properly dominated Lando and Albon in equal cars. It's just the fact that Russell is against Hamilton that makes people forgot Russell is actually levels above Norris and Albon whom he dominated in equal cars. Moreover, there is a level of overhyping for both Norris and Albon due to the fact that they're having weaker teammates that makes them looks super fast in comparison.
There's also the notion that "backmarker cars will always be backmarker cars, if it improves at all then it's the greatness of its drivers that push it" nonsense. People is just so easily overhyped over that nowadays. On a slightly unrelated note, this is why awesome midfield drivers frequently seemingly didn't perform as well. It's not because the pressure of a faster car, it's just that they're being exposed by top level drivers present in top teams.
In case of Hulkenberg, he won't do much better than Perez. Hulkenberg is looking extraordinary rn is just because he's up against Magnussen.

I am a massive Hulk fan, but come on, if you are going to rip the shit out of Checo for "average" performances, Hulk would be worse. Yes Hulk is a quali specialist, but its the race that matters, not quali and Checo is by far the better of the two in race conditions. Of there three years together at Force India, with the exception of their first year together, Checo pretty much had the upper hand on Hulk. Factor in as well that prior to joining RB Checo had nine podiums including one win and two podiums in his debut season for Sauber, and Hulk still does not even have one to his name, you can see straight away who is the better bet for championship positions out of the two. Factor in the fact that the Red Bull is blatantly designed to suit Max, there is zero guarantee that anyone coming into that team would even come close to Max, and that includes some of the highest rated guys on the grid. Only one guy on the current F1 grid has proved himself adaptable to cars not designed around him over the years, and that is Fernando. We have seen multiple good to great drivers flounder in a team when the car suits their team mate better. This is probably the biggest issue Ricciardo had at McLaren. The car just did not suit him. I think the same can be said of Checo, and yet he still gets the results the team needs.
It's hard to judge some of top guys on the grid right now as they have either only driven for one team or have started in dogshit teams and moved up. Some of the younger guys like Lando, Piastri and LeClerc may thrive more against Max, but as we saw with Albon and Gasly, great drivers but totally out of their depth in a team built around Max.

19:07 I'd say George had the perfect start to his time at Mercedes
19:48 I think their pinchpoints have been overblown quite a bit. Zandvoort 2022 was understandable since the race win was possible for both. And I think Spain and Belgium qualifying was just unfortunate timing, a bit like you said with Alpine at 11:24. And even if their relationship is as bad as you say, I think your weighing it too much because they're no way the worst pairing on the grid. They rank extremely highly in skill, experience and marketability. I don't understand how you can put them below Bottas and Zhou.
22:15 What? George was great in his first season at Mercedes. This season, he has made quite a few mistakes but he has gotten quite unlucky as well like the P2 he lost in Australia, the terrible strategy and then puncture in Zandvoort and the issues in qualifying in Austria and Hungary which makes it look like he's miles off Lewis when that isn't the case.

Both have matured so much since 2007 and they are in a similar position hunting for their final title where mutual sympathy would make them fine with sharing a 1-2. Both of their achievements and skills demand incredible respect from one another and the commercial value of the pair would be the strongest in F1. With Merceses underperforming and Aston's huge investments and results this season it's not even that impossible of a move for Lewis to consider.

I don't get the Russell shafting in a lot of these videos. For multiple races now, when he's DNFed, it's been from in front of Lewis, either from mechanical/strategy failure or just being shafted. Like, hes been left out on old tyres twice in a row at LEAST now, and he is directly being pressured by Lewis CONSTANTLY to back down and concede, at the cost of team points time and time again.
It's a classic tale. Russel out on old old tyres, Lewis with a better strategy behind him in the final laps, and Lewis can't get around despite several weaker cars doing so, then either lewis shoves him off, the tyres finally lock, or whatever, and everyone moans that "HE SHOULD HAVE LET HIM BY TO CHASE" despite Lewis never having the pace to do so.
Like, really? If Lewis cannot pass George, how on earth do you think Lewis can get by and pass the guy who passed George? It doesnt line up at all, and the time charts show it. It's just a tussle for power, and whenever george has been in the inverse scenario, I cannot recall Lewis moving, and most people hate on George for complaining exactly how Lewis did.
The points do lie this season. George isn't significantly behind Hamilton aside from crucial issues, both due to the car and due to strategy. HORRID qualifying in which Lewis backed him up, leading to him going out in Q1 because mercades decided to take a huge risk for zero reason with good pace?
Constant shafting on strategy, where George again and again has had to make up for unfortunate circumstances and bad pits, going up from his quali position consistently, etc.
Again, I'm not claiming he's the better driver, but the venom with which people have gone to tearing George apart constantly at every opportunity is sickening when he's just doing his job, WELL. It seems like a lot of Mercades fans are Lewis fans, and concessions are only expected to go one way.
George isn't bottas. Everyone should be happy about that, to see better even racing like the 2016 everyone so fondly claims to remember now. I like to see fast drivers in fast cars, and it sucks how often george is shafted in public opinion despite consistently showing up and doing the absolute maximum with his car, even in spite of all the misfortune and team lean against him.

I get that Russell is unhappy with his status as you've said, and fighting for his place in the team and at the sport. As you've said title fight is one thing, but this is not even for podiums most of the times (or poles). The only driver on the current grid that I can see getting close to the current top 3 (in no order Hamilton, Verstappen and Alonso) within a few years would be Piastri. There are a lot of other good drivers on the grid, but I don't see much growth in them. Piastri in his rookie season is already getting close to Norris. It wouldn't surprise me if he is faster and more reliable in a 2 years compared to those other good drivers. From there the growth will naturally slow down. He might not bring in as much money as some other drivers, but in the end the teams want to score as much points as possible.
