  • The O'Neill mourns the loss of Jim Rose. A puppeteer, teacher, and O'Neill legend, Jim was a vital, beloved, and integral part of the National Puppetry Conference for the last 30 years. His Marionette Strand was a cornerstone of the Conference and a favorite of artists and audiences alike. Jim's roots at the O'Neill go back to the Center's founding in 1964, he grew up in Waterford and his parents Rufus and Margot Rose of "Howdy Doody Show" fame were founding members of the O'Neill, our Barn is named for both of them due to Jim's insistence that his mother have equal billing. Jim taught both the Marionette classes and co-hosted "Tea Time" with his wife Judy via Zoom during the 2020 National Puppetry Conference. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and collaborators, most especially with Judy.
In 2018, while at the O'Neill, Jim gave a freewheeling interview about his life and work. Listen here: bit.ly/3cUi3VD
