More things that happen: 1. They insult you over the pulpit and it's kind of merged into their sermon 2. They very inaccessible 3. They know who your enemies/tormentors are in the church and place them on a pedestal to torment you more and not to edify you. 4. If you need to complain to him about people tormenting you (they are mini narcissists in the church and they are mini tormentors), the pastor does not want to deal with it and avoids you so the church is heavily toxic. And what they do is teach hard and say you are just going through your wilderness/death like Jesus took the cross...no, all sin going on in the church can't be easily dismissed like that
Thank you! This needs to be repeated over and over until the church wakes up! Spiritual abuse (mostly to women) is real and it exists. I know because I experienced it firsthand
I feel like the head pastor of my old church is like this. We had 5 elders, and when I came to them about the abuse, before the head pastor got involved, they showed a lot of kindness and concern for me. That all changed, and it went downhill. And now that I am out, I see it happening to my friends in the church, and no one wants to say anything because the church is very influential and admired. I started to notice how stress induced sickness is rampant in that church, and the demeanor of the head pastors wife is the demeanor of a woman being emotionally abused.
A PASTOR IS A HUMAN BEING TOO THEY AINT GOD AND THE ONE PERSON WITH DECERNMENT WILL SPOT THEM NO MATTER HOW THEY FAKE IT ,I WILL SPEAK THE TRUTH NO MATTER WHAT
Can a narcissist be a Christian (follower of Jesus)? I struggle to know because I have family members who claim to be, but their narcissistic behavior seems contradictory to their profession. 😢
Yea I was brought into Christianity by a narcissist. And then I found out that the entire religion is run by narcissists. We're all supposed to be like Jesus, right?
Narcissism is rampant in ANY position of power, from politicians, government, businesses, organizations, to religions. Power is the key to the problem since these people are drawn to it to rule over others. It's in every country and all throughout history.

I recognise no.4 - there’s a pastorsdelegate in my church that’s largely responsible for the attrition we are experiencing.
The covert narcissist pastor is better at faking the humility but wise people can see through the vagueness and inconsistency.
Vagueness and inconsistency- is exactly it. Total shadiness, always doing their dealings in the shadows to remain unaccountable

Even within denominations with hierarchy, the struggle to keep someone in the pulpit with dwindling available ministers, allows narcissism to thrive.
Thank you for addressing this very sensitive issue.
A thousand times YES! Thank you for this help.
Thank you guys for bringing this up

What if the same woman is also the “pastor’s” wife ~ DOUBLE BIND!
Yup, he said the board meets once a year. Once a year, how much input can they really have?
What about an elder that has more influence than the pastor because they are in rivalry with them.
I completely agree
My spouse plays with fire getting close to other women, and these women are always attractive, and/or rich
And they are deceptive and side along with their narcissistic husband knowing that they are wrong. Unbiblical

I don't think so
They are lovers of self, so no
Can't judge people by their looks.
