When I was shopping for cars, I found the box test really useful to understand how practical a vehicle could be. I would really hate to see you all remove a cargo measure from your reviews.
Yes, agreed. Box test was how I found you guys and thought it was such a perfect test of every car. Please don't get rid of it for a decibel test, most people don't care about decibels. Box test is super practical.
The box test is LITERALLY what sold my mom on her Forester and the Rav4 when she had it in her options. It's such a useful test, and for EVs can definitely be useful especially with the Frunks. Hopefully it sticks around because it's such a unique measurement that makes so much sense.
The box test is far more important than the external decibel test. In fact, the box test is one of the best things you do, since no one else online provides such a great cross-shoppable/comparable method of measuring real-world storage capacity. If you're going to test decibels, it needs to be the interior decibels, since that's what you live with as the driver every day. Unless you're talking about an exotic supercar or a muscle car, no one cares how the car sounds from the outside. Keep the box test forever. Apply the decibel test to the interior, not the exterior.
I know you mentioned it before, but it would be informational if you mention city and highway mpg. It’s literally less than ten seconds to do so and it saves us from having to look it up
Please keep the box test for cars that regular people can afford, its more practical. Do the decibel test for crazy cars where you know we are just watching for entertainment.

This design is sick! Honda knows what’s up fr. I don’t really like the normal hatchback shape with no trunk space but this looks like a sedan sport hatch. Looks like it’s very well balanced and I love it 🔥
The hatch you describe looks more like a wagon than a hatch. Wagons don’t sell in North America. Selling a wagon-like hatch would be a death sentence for Honda. This 2022 hatch is way more in line and more attractive to people who will buy it.

When I was looking for a car and was learning about the civic, I did not like hatchback because of its big fake vents but really liked that the hatchback has a rear wiper. This gen’s hatchback it really nice and wonder how different the type r will be.
The type R doesn't look so different from this. Just extra vents for cooling of the larger engine with the bigger turbo, and a bigger wing for more downforce. The coupe isn't coming back, though.
Keep doing the box test! It's a super easy way for normal people to understand how much cargo space a car has, and its part of whats sets you guys apart from other motoring journalists

As a boost blue owner, I’m indeed mad, and a 2 for 1, Floridian so bump the winter tires. The new gen is just the boring civic gen, the odds have always been the oddly styled gen, though I do like the rear on these hatches still. The front end and fenders are just no fun
SERIOUSLY. I can't agree with this more. Accord is an incredible car - if they made it a liftback like the Audi A7 (which it already looks like) and gave it AWD it would be a no question purchase for me.
I had a 2005 Ford Focus ZX5 SES trim level. It was a hatchback. I did put some stuff for my mother during the 1st summer of driving it. I folded the bottom seat towards the front and fold down the back. Even took down the cover in the back. It was easy to do for me. I figured it out. It was my favorite little car to drive. It got totaled in a bad car accident.
Now that the Si has been released, I'm finding myself drawn to both the Si (sedan only of course) and the Sport Touring hatchback in a manual. I like the styling of both, and the extra power and LSD in the Si would be great, but I love the practicality of the hatch, plus the Sport Touring trim is basically loaded and has all the features I'd like in a new car. If I can't decide after test driving both, I may just hold off and wait for the new Integra, which will be a 4-door hatch with the Si engine, and will probably have an even nicer interior than the new Civic.
As a 10th Gen hatch owner, I have mixed feelings. I really like the interior and the drive mode switch. But the exterior just feels so dumbed down to me compared to the 10th Gen (At least the higher trims, like my Ex).
They’re trying to get away from the hot hatch look and make their cars more sophisticated at every level. I guess they’re tired of the reputation the ricers have given them.
Nothing but good reviews on this car. I might choose this over the CRV based upon mpg and driving feel. Boost blue is great. I hope they make Phoenix yellow next year. I’m sure some people are already swapping base civics with type r motors 😁
As always, great reviews guys! I am disappointed that Honda no longer offers the sport hatchback with the 1.5T and manual. I had the previous gen sport hatch which is the best example of fun, power and affordability.
I own a 2022 Sedan Touring and the price for the hatch is BROKEN. I needed to make the purchase when I did and could not wait to see what the deal was going to be on the hatch and I am not upset. The Sport Touring hatch is $5000 more than the sedan and for NOTHING. The only point of argument can be made for the cargo flexibility. That is it. Otherwise, still a brilliant car as I freaking love my 2022 over my 2017. So much better in so many ways.
@@philipserov In Canada the Sedan Touring is $30,265 CAD and the Hatch touring is $35,000. Not sure why the price discrepancy is so much larger in Canada than the US but it is. I would like a hatch but I'm leaning towards a corolla instead because I cannot justify paying thousands of extra dollars for a hatch.
Hard to justify the price bump over the sedan. I like the hatch, but I ain't paying $37000CAD after PDI and Freight. As someone said, you can get a Mazda 3 turbo AWD at about the same price. That price difference is insane. Honda needs to give their collective corporate head a shake!!
Hatch whenever possible for me. 1st car I bought was Civic Hatchback....my current daily is a BMW 325 touring. Love a hatch/touring/estate so practical and I think more attractive than sedans.
I would always crossshop hatchbacks with sub-compact crossovers. So I would love to hear what you guys think of something like the Mazda cx-30 compared to this!
Reserved my Sport hatch today in boost blue! Very excited based on the reviews I'm seeing. First one to get shipped to my dealership and it had a line of people clamoring for it, luckily I was the first one to show up with a deposit ready to buy
They shouldn’t bring the coupe back, they should bring back the 2-door Civic hatchback! Or the 3 door Civic or whatever you wanna call it. That would be rad. And I’m sure that the bean counters wouldn’t think that it would sell well but I think they would be very surprised.
I got this car in the same color but in the sport trim with the 2.0L engine specifically to avoid the 1.5T engine because it has a history of oil delusion problems. And I love this car very snazzy and cool.
This is more comfortable than all of those cars with better build materials and reliability, not to mention a Civic Si competes with those cars. I have a GTI and the new Civics are a different classification of car
please keep the box test. it's a much more real world relevant test than almost anything else. Even handling. Your box test and interior breakdowns are the most useful info
Great review. I would always chose a hatchback over the sedan as I often need to carry a lot of music gear. My first Honda was a 1979 Civic. They make quality vehicles.

How come no one talks about the walk-away auto lock feature? It is really useful if you're carrying bags of groceries in both arms, or trying to keep 2 toddlers from running out into traffic. And of course, another benefit is you'd never have to worry about the absent-minded spouse or teenager forgetting to lock the car.
Love the video! Quick and information. Love that it’s Canadian! I am going to go to my local Honda dealer later this week and see if we can make something work! Woohoo. Upgrading from my 2018 Impreza
For last gen, the sedan looks better than hatch but this year, the hatch looks miles better and cooler than sedan. The sedan looks alright but too plain. My 2 cents ...
The side profile of this model is the least flattering hatchback Honda has ever made in my opinion. They went from the slightly over designed aggressive look with the previous model civic, to this under designed meh look. Am I the only one that feels like this is a digression from the pervious civic hatch?
Yep. The new hatch is way more attractive to a wider range of buyers. The last iteration of hatch wasn’t attractive and aggressive as you called it. Honda knows that’s wagons and hatch’s generally don’t sell very well, but there are some die-hard hatch customers. This hatch will be a fantastic seller for Honda.
Looks more like a fastback to me... Loved the interiors and those vents look really cool and have like some 80's look to them. Thanks for sharing, awesome video as always.
I personally think they took a step back in styling, the last gen was so distinct from the rest of the market imo. The new styling is pretty boring. I’ll probably get used to it.

I've got a 2018 Civic base and love it. Looks like they made it even better going into 2022! Do keep the box test, it was VERY useful when deciding to buy my Civic! I wish they'd make an EV version of this Civic. It's literally everything I'd want, but just can't justify the cost to upgrade unless it were to change to an electric drivetrain (no more cost for gas). If they had an electric Civic that was exactly this car but electric with 300-400 miles of range, I'd be looking to trade in right away.
I fully agree. Electric cars are all either underpowered and dull or bulky SUVs, and none of them have enough range for a substantial road trip without worrying about charging. An electric Civic with the same horsepower and long range would be perfect.

Yo the box test sets your channel apart, don't get rid of it! It's been very useful when car shopping!
When I was looking for a car and was learning about the civic, I did not like hatchback because of its big fake vents but really liked that the hatchback has a rear wiper. This gen’s hatchback it really nice and wonder how different the type r will be.
@@Alex-yj9xl I thought the last gens were sooo ugly
@@Alex-yj9xl I think it looks good. 🤷
The type R doesn't look so different from this. Just extra vents for cooling of the larger engine with the bigger turbo, and a bigger wing for more downforce. The coupe isn't coming back, though.
Box test would be more useful if we know how it compares to other similar cars. Have a leaderboard table or something.
That's bigger than my 1987 Accord hatchback, which was a great car.
Keep doing the box test! It's a super easy way for normal people to understand how much cargo space a car has, and its part of whats sets you guys apart from other motoring journalists
"The previous gen Type R which you can buy right now"
Or in the case of Sweden, removed without any mention and made to look as if it never existed.
Hate it when manufacturers of cars or anything else do that. You wonder what happens to the unsold stock. Does it go to those in the know or is it sent to another country?
I am in Canada and I just cant get my hand on a 2020 or 2021...
@@robsmall6466 As far as I know I got a 21 type r and it was only 1 of 13 that made it to the country. The chip shortage and covid totally halted everything. I'm Australian for reference.
@@weaselman24 Congrats on getting one. That's a really nice car you've got there. My comment was more in regards to pre covid. Companies don't seem to be very forthcoming when certain models reach the end of the line or they change strategy and decide that it isn't working out. You think perhaps I'll try that one day and then by the time you have the chance it isn't available any more
I'd still have a Mazda 3 hatch over this. The interior, especially in red, is gorgeous!
It's got more power and AWD option as well. Hopefully maybe the new Integra will be like that. It will be built on this Civic platform.
Even a 2021 Mazda3 Select hatchback has more power, and it's naturally aspirated.
mazda: has a hatchback.
honda: is this close enough?
As a video person and frequent road tripper, please keep the box test. It’s the most practical test of a vehicle to see how much stuff it can fit and has helped me figure out what rental car I might need for a location shoot. Leave the decibel test for the fun cars or a super car test
As a boost blue owner, I’m indeed mad, and a 2 for 1, Floridian so bump the winter tires.
The new gen is just the boring civic gen, the odds have always been the oddly styled gen, though I do like the rear on these hatches still. The front end and fenders are just no fun
Agreed. Thought it would be a special late model color like the s2000 CR apex blue...
Manual hatchback for sure! "Save the manual". Thanks for your review.
Yuri, if you wear a Type R shirt, it gives you an extra +5 hp
I live in Dallas, Texas. I never thought I'd have a need for snow tires after leaving NS... Nature proved me wrong last Feb :)
I grew up in Halifax, NS.
Now I live in Houston, Tx

They should also make a accord hatch back with awd sounds like a perfect four season vehicle.
With those taillights it would be a Kia stinger 2.0t.
SERIOUSLY. I can't agree with this more. Accord is an incredible car - if they made it a liftback like the Audi A7 (which it already looks like) and gave it AWD it would be a no question purchase for me.
They did, it was called the Crosstour and was a failure, everyone called it ugly, though it is still one of my favorite vehicles.
V6 Low-RPM Turbo AWD Accord, pls pls :P
@@BIPICY They're bringing it back supposedly. Not sure what market though.
Box test is what set you apart! And its always something i look forward too!
I really wish they would have brought back an updated EG style 3 door hatch, but this new hatchback looks really cool, too! Keep the manuals alive!
While cool they can't justify the cost of it for the lower sales.
It's all but dead, they made it so expensive almost no one will buy it.
I'll take a "real" hatchback in 4dr form. I.e. Squared off for better cargo
That’s my exact problem
An SI hatch would be the perfect car. Why can't we have that??
I love the practicality and looks of the hatchback but the sport touring hatch costs more than the Si.....that's a no go for me.
Si hatch would be epic
If you want an SI hatchback, they push you to the Integra.
The box test is one of the most useful pieces of information this channel provides. It’s not something you can see on a spreadsheet.
Now that you both have kids you need a car seat test! Especially on these family type cars.
Bought my sport 2.0L back in April. Highly recommend it for a daily. Probably the best option under $30k USD
As a 10th Gen hatch owner, I have mixed feelings. I really like the interior and the drive mode switch. But the exterior just feels so dumbed down to me compared to the 10th Gen (At least the higher trims, like my Ex).
Completely agree
They’re trying to get away from the hot hatch look and make their cars more sophisticated at every level. I guess they’re tired of the reputation the ricers have given them.
The interior design language on this car is incredible. I love the simplicity in the front cabin.
Would love to see a comparison against the Mazda 3 turbo hatch. Both look great and have a good balance of comfort and sport.
Mazda 3 hatch in top trim is spectacular. Feels very lux. But to get that crazy HP and torque, u need premium fuel. Not cool
@@ashrafc7794 You still get close to 230 hp on 87 octane
Box test is super practical. I use that when you guys review cars/ if I'm shopping for a new vehicle. I like it. It should stick around.
Nothing but good reviews on this car. I might choose this over the CRV based upon mpg and driving feel. Boost blue is great. I hope they make Phoenix yellow next year. I’m sure some people are already swapping base civics with type r motors 😁
the 2.0 is slower then the 1.5🤣
I really like the box test, its helpful visualizing cargo space instead of just reading numbers on paper
As always, great reviews guys!
I am disappointed that Honda no longer offers the sport hatchback with the 1.5T and manual. I had the previous gen sport hatch which is the best example of fun, power and affordability.
What you mean? Pretty sure you can get all three trims in manual
@ashrafc. No 1.5T and manual in lower trims. Only sport touring hatch has that combo and Si. Priced around 30k
This has grown on me so fast. That color is my favorite. Definitely don't think the Corolla hatch looks better
Agreed, for the same price, I'd rather get the Mazda3 Turbo which has AWD and much more power.
@@Jacobcho83 Or A VW GTI .
If you're going to have a decibel test, it would be more relevant if you did interior sound levels at 50kph and 100kph
Keep the box test please it's a really useful test and y'all are the only guys that do that kind of thing
Don’t live In Florida, but here in NC we get like 3 flurries of snow a year

@@subeyguy66 they turn the hazards on and go 25mph as soon as a flake of snow gets on the windshield 😂
Best civic review on YT ! good job on side by side comparison photos
They shouldn’t bring the coupe back, they should bring back the 2-door Civic hatchback! Or the 3 door Civic or whatever you wanna call it. That would be rad. And I’m sure that the bean counters wouldn’t think that it would sell well but I think they would be very surprised.
I bought the 6 speed manual version of this car. I love it
I got this car in the same color but in the sport trim with the 2.0L engine specifically to avoid the 1.5T engine because it has a history of oil delusion problems. And I love this car very snazzy and cool.
can you elaborate on the 1.5t engine having oil dilution problems?
My first TSP video was your comparison between the 10th Gen Civic and the Corolla. I've been anticipating for this one and it did not disappoint.
For the price I would rather get a GTI, Veloster N, or a WRX
This is more comfortable than all of those cars with better build materials and reliability, not to mention a Civic Si competes with those cars. I have a GTI and the new Civics are a different classification of car
This is my favorite kind of hatchback design. I love the fastback style.
would love to know the DB sound test for the cold starts and in-cabin driving noise :)
I bought one in touring trim. Yes it's a good improvement in all ways. Happy I made the purchase
"I couldn't fit all of these boxes. Maybe on the 14th gen when they turn it into a SUV" 🤣 🤣
please keep the box test. it's a much more real world relevant test than almost anything else. Even handling. Your box test and interior breakdowns are the most useful info
Honda finally made some decent looking stock wheels. I like the body style better than the last generation. It would be cool if it came in AWD.
Great review. I would always chose a hatchback over the sedan as I often need to carry a lot of music gear. My first Honda was a 1979 Civic. They make quality vehicles.
unfortunately, even though i'd like to upgrade my car this year, the dealer markups due to inventory shortages just ain't worth it.
How can I find out if my local dealer is marking up prices for this reason?
@@Jasiel.95 if the price is too high
@@Jasiel.95 just check their inventory if they have a certain amount of cars they won’t mark up on the price to much but if they have little of them they are
The car at msrp isn’t worth it. 35k in Canada for this car. You can get an awd fully loaded Mazda 3 with better leather more features way more premium and quiet interior with a way better sound system
Bought one 3 week ago and still can not believe how nice this car is for the price. This is my 47th Honda
How much is it ??
Will you test the hatch with the 6-speed manual? For me, it’s ‘save-the-manuals’ or bust!
I dunno. It’s just one of those things we don’t find as important as a quick touch to lock
The rear literally looks like a Kia Stinger
Love the video! Quick and information. Love that it’s Canadian! I am going to go to my local Honda dealer later this week and see if we can make something work! Woohoo. Upgrading from my 2018 Impreza
For last gen, the sedan looks better than hatch but this year, the hatch looks miles better and cooler than sedan. The sedan looks alright but too plain. My 2 cents ...
Other way around for me. The last gen hatch looks better than this new model too, more 'sportier'.
I've got myself the Civic 2022 Hybrid 2.0L with 231lb-ft of torque. Rather looking forward to taking delivery of it in the next 12 days.
The side profile of this model is the least flattering hatchback Honda has ever made in my opinion. They went from the slightly over designed aggressive look with the previous model civic, to this under designed meh look.
Am I the only one that feels like this is a digression from the pervious civic hatch?
Side profile of hatch looks super goofy by the sedan looks great
“Maybe on the 14th gen when they turn it into an SUV”. Sadly that’s probably what will happen. An electric SUV
Just went out and bought a 2022 sport hatchback. Great deal on trade in as well. Thanks for the video, very in depth
I personally think they took a step back in styling, the last gen was so distinct from the rest of the market imo. The new styling is pretty boring. I’ll probably get used to it.
I like the new styling and how big it is
I like the front end of last gen and the back end of this gen

Box test is by far best test you guys do and the exact reason I choose your content over other channels for reviews. But this only applies to "practical cars" I wouldn't care about the test for sports/performance cars
This Civic is such an amazing piece of quality for that price point.
Ghosts of the Crosstour in that shape.
It's so close to an actual wagon but Honda was too cowardly to do it.
I dig it. Hatch, manual. Happy they got away from the awful transformer look and toned it down. Definitely excited to see the Si and type R
I think the hatch looks soooo much better than the sedan. Definitely wouldn’t mind one of these
