I have seven year old twin boys who have grown up on Dio, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Rush and Led Zeppelin, to name a few. Not many seven year olds would ask their father to play Killing the Dragon by Dio!

I was like that one kid once when I was his age. A friend made me listen to Iron Maiden and I remember hating it and calling it noise. It took me ten years to 'see the light' and it was hearing Metallica that kickstarted my passion for metal. Now, twenty more years later, it's as if it's always been there. I guess I'm a late bloomer in that regard.
That doesn't make his reactions less cringe-worthy, but I can relate to it as well.

I'm currently 13 an I have to say I've always hated the music that plays on the radio (I was born in South Africa and my first language is English but I live in Germany) but then I heard metal for the first time and was like "this is f*cking awesome" found out more about it and started binge listening to it and I still think metal is the way to go

Tysner Drumming the true story about myself is that I'm a big fan boy of Metallica but one song I've never really sunk into is master of puppets, yeah it's awesome and all but seriously listen to like dyers eve, shortest straw. Marcus Jeffers I know I'm going to sound pretentious, but many young people and teens, including myself, are into metal. But to be fair, I think that most fans of thrash are pretty much people over 40... It's sad really
I see your point, the vast majority of young people in the last 10-20 years are not paying attention to metal and not being open minded about music, but as a 14 year old, who's friends are predominantly into metal and many of metal's sub genres, I disagree with the idea that metal an ageing genre in way that a lot of people think it is. While there arn't an awful lot of kids into heavier music, there is technically enough to keep the market open.
I wish more people would tell their kids about this kind of music. I'm 13 and the only reason i listen to this kind of music is because of my older brothers.

My first Metallica experience was their video of One from their ... And Justice For All album. I'll be turning 48 on the 28th, so you can guess how long I've been listening to metal. 1988 to be exact.
All is not lost, my kids (12 & 17) know their metal. My oldest even knows songs I don't! And he plays them too!

This is why I'm glad my parents had so much music of such a wide variety on our old desktop computer, it's really aided me as an adult find music to enjoy and not just be stuck with current pop music.

With what you said about electronic music, I don't think it's fair to really generalize it as bad because a lot of progressive metal uses electronic elements. I'd say it's the electronic bubblegum pop that's to blame for the ignorance of this generation.

This might be a bit biased seeing as i've listened to metal, rock, grunge and stuff all my life, but I cannot agree more with what you are saying about musical ignorance and I am extremely happy in the way my parents were metal heads and had tastes in music with stuff from deftones to electric wizard. I enjoy your content a lot and find your opinions in music very interesting and I agree with a lot of the arguments that you give.🤘 hope you have a good day.

When I was little we had music classes in school. I remember our teacher playing different kinds of older music ( classical, blues, folk, etc ) and telling us that even if we hated it we should appreciate that the popular stuff we heard on the radio came from all that. Sad that we don't teach music in school anymore.

I know exactly how it feels to have to deal with that musical ignorance, like I love metal and hard rock and I have a pretty wide variety of other musical interests like jazz and blues, but it's so hard to deal with the musical ignorance of all the other kids and teens
"MATE" you have just scared the shit out of me, this is only the second video of yours I've watched, but the way you describe the musical influences you had growing up hit me like a 50BMG, from the Metallica/Maiden years to Satch and Vai, even the jazz and Classical were all part of me growing up in the 70's and 80's (The metal foundation years as I like to call them), I literary have chills running down my spine. And on teaching our kids about music appreciation, my 3 sons (Dam saying that out loud takes me back to the early 80's TV show) are all metal heads at heart but have all gone in slightly different directions, (oldest 22 is in to hardcore thrash and Viking metal , The middle 20 is in to Punk and Ska and the youngest 16 is a retro metal head).
