    I think the reason he connected it to Pink Floyd was maybe the intense imagery, reminiscent of The Wall movie. They had the same sort of approach in showing things exactly how they are, even if its ugly. Musically there isn't much relation but they had the same sort of balance of metaphor with straight forward imagery. Its a fascinating connection to make :)

    • @animatedCHUG

      Become the Knight, I like that you don't get angry, even when your angry or perhaps frustrated at something that is naive. You keep cool where a lot of other folks would have their frustrations take over and heat them up and in turn making metal heads look like tempered elitists which really gives the whole genre a black eye. Which is what I am constantly trying to explain to people, metal is angry, but that doesn't mean the metal head is angry. In fact many are brought from anger to calmness even through the most extreme genres.

    • @BecomeTheKnight
      @BecomeTheKnight  7 лет назад +6

      Amen dude. That's one of the reasons I chose the title "Music Snob," to kinda parody those guys who are "metal, or it sucks." That and I used to be a LOT less accepting of other types of music than I am now so I'm kinda making fun of myself haha.

    5:05 i've got a real crazy story about that topic. A week ago i was listening to a live version of basin street blues by louis armstrong. And at the end of the piano solo there was some melody that just reminded me of something but i couldn't put my finger on it and it bothered me all day. Then 2 days after that i was listening to the self titled SOAD album and the song mind is playing. And just as the guitar part joins the bass line i'm literally jumping up and yelling THAT'S IT, I FINALLY FOUND IT and jumping up and down. It was almost exactly the same melody. Thats just amazing to me, how a piano solo in a jazz song from more than 70 years ago can include the exact same piece of melody as a SOAD song

I've been using rock and metal to keep from hitting meltdown or try and pull myself out of shutdown since high school without doing so consciously, and now that I'm thinking about it my eldest's sudden interest in it a couple years ago makes so much sense. At 6:35. I think you DO understand it because you said that the beginning of Time by Pink Floyd gives you anxiety. And when I saw Time live, my soul was escaping me. (Not drug related)

    When I was on my first festival I headbanged so hard Igot a concussion but you can't help it. If there's a great band on the next day, you have to do it again, no matter how much it hurts.

    People often think, that art should be beautiful. But art is not about beauty. It's about telling a story in words, shapes, colors, notes.

    Once my father and I headbanged for 2 hours straight when listening back to songs he listened too when he was a teen: the next day I woke up and I couldn't move my neck without having my eyes watering because of the pain haha(also that night I was very much out of breath and sweating all over it was very fun)

    I like that anxious thought. I like this kind of music and feel a sort of release while listening to it however my girlfriend has literally said that it makes her feel anxious. Thats interesting to hear someone else say that.
