    ACDC have heavy roots in the Aussie pub rock scene, which is why they were never worried about being technical masters or creating out there music. Their main audience were drunks and people who wanted to party, and they stuck to that formula to this day. That's also where the 'oi's came from

    • @Tman2217
      @Tman2217 6 лет назад +7

      I would agree, they are self-aware. But I think they've said in interviews and videos that they just set out to be a rock'n'roll band, and not be any more or any less than that. And, to me, that is respectable. They know who and what they are and they are and they haven't sold out or tried to change the music they play to suit the times like many bands have. They've always been who they are and played what they play and are happy to be in the niche they have carved for themselves.

    Here's the thing with AC/DC: they basically represent everything that pure rock n' roll is. Rock was never about the technicality of the music, nor about how sophisticated the lyrics are. Rock was always about showing the struggle, playing dirty music and making you feel good. You could say Chuck Berry and Elvis were repetitive, but they were still great for Rock N Roll. That being said, I am not a massive AC/DC fan and I agree with most of Mike's points.

    The international release of High Voltage had quite a bit of diversity. For example, how many other of AC/DC's songs had a bagpipe in it? The first guitar solo in Rock 'N' Roll Singer has a rare bluesy feel to it.The Jack is a slower song riddled with poker innuendos, making it the first truly raunchy ACDC song. Can I Sit Next To You Girl is also unique due to all of the staccato notes going on. The pulsing bass intro in Live Wire does a good job of grabbing the attention of the listener, and then the chords build upon it.The tom beats during the chorus are what make this song unique, as this was the first major use of tom-toms by an ACDC drummer. High Voltage has a simple chord intro, but what makes it unique is the funky guitar backing during the verses. The outro of High Voltage also does a good job of showcasing Angus' abilities. It's A Long Way To The Top, Rock 'N' Roll Singer, and High Voltage also have a surreal novelty to them. They were earlier songs about them getting their big break and whatnot. Then we move to Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.. Squealer is a unique song due to the groovy and original bass line. ACDC also had another futuristic song It Ain't No Fun (Waiting 'Round to be a Millionaire) Foretelling a future of wealth. This song is much more lyrically centered, which is why it is unique. The album also features Ride On, a slow blues tune The Let There Be Rock album was when things started getting similar. however their songs were still distinct. The title track is a powerful driven song. The Bass and hi-hat rarely relent, and with three amazing guitar solos, it sets the stage as the opening track. Dog Eat Dog is a fairly simple song, but the banging toms along with the lyrics of ruthlessness make it interesting. Look, I could spend forever writing about all of the Bon Scott era songs. All I ask is that you listen to the entirety of all the International releases of High Voltage, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Let There Be Rock, Powerage, and Highway to Hell in the name of appreciating music, Bon Scott died before his time was up. Also, I like to think of Bon Scott's voice in a similarity to M. Shadows. They're higher, and more nasal. Those whom truly enjoy hearing their voices have a refined sense of hearing and musical taste.

    I got worried when you said you weren't a fan of AC/DC, but I am glad you didn't full on bash them. I understand what you are saying from a music snob point of view (it's why I love this channel). As an Australian who grew up on AC/DC like so many others we love this band because it is simple, you can rock to it with your mates and when you hear it playing in the pub (or any party/gathering) you can't help but get involved, sing at the top of your lungs and just have a good time! \m/

      Werewolf211 I feel like you could give that title to Boston or Journey

    • @CottidaeSEA
      @CottidaeSEA 7 лет назад +4

      Okay, let me rephrase that. The pop music of hard rock. Also, what has Journey even done that has become famous besides a couple of songs? Boston seems more reasonable, but Journey isn't even popular enough to justify it. Even though a lot of people know Don't Stop Believin' that doesn't mean they know any of their other songs.

    • @chasewatkins5547
      @chasewatkins5547 7 лет назад +3

      Lots of people know other songs by Journey. Faithfully, Wheel In The Sky, Separate Ways, Lights, and more

    • @chasewatkins5547

      The only Boston songs normal people know are More Than A Feeling, and maybe Peace Of Mind

    • @angelortiz-uq3if
      @angelortiz-uq3if 6 лет назад

      Werewolf211 Journey had more hits than just Don't stop believing, and all the people I know sing along to don't stop believing whenever it comes on. Also, I cant even think of any other Boston song besides more than a feeling, that I've heard, but I know they have had more hits. I'd consider Journey a household name, same as ACDC. Though, that's just my opinion.

    There have been interviews with AC/DC in the past, and even they admitted that they are not the most technically proficient musicians, but you can’t fault AC/DC for their incredible live performances, and that great classic rock tone they get out of their Marshall amps.

      What AC/DC doesn't get credit for is that they mastered the art of writing an opening riff. How many AC/DC songs can you identify in less than 5 notes? Or less? Thunderstruck, You Shook Me All Night Long, Hells Bells, Back in Black, ...
      I can't think of any other bands who pull you in right from that first note.
      If only they know how to end a song.

    As an AC/DC fan, I love your comments on this! You put so much thought into what you say and I like how you don't just choose one side and refuse to accept anything else. AC/DC are just a bunch of cheeky mates, making loud, catchy songs that totally capture the spirit and essence of Australia, especially 70s Australia. That whole 'give no shits and have fun' pub culture, nothing deeper, and they know it. As an Aussie, I don't know anyone who takes them seriously or who would say they're trying to send a message beyond "shut up and rock." I know your culture over there has always been very different from ours so I can totally understand why you don't like them. Either way, they've introduced a heck of a lot of people to rock, which is great! If you ever find the time, you should check out some of the stuff from their 1979 Let There Be Rock Paris concert movie, it's super entertaining. Keep doing what you do, your videos are awesome! \m/

Because it's not just how many notes per second you can play, it's about combining the simple things in a way that's not over the top and that gives of a good sound. And Bryan's singing has a special kind of rock n roll pump feeling. There songs do sound similar but not the same they happen to have A SOUND that people can identify with AC/DC.
