    This post was an absolute life-saver for me! I have to confess I could not remember where the transmission fluid dipstick was although I have owned dozens of similar Town Cars and Marks, 82-89. With no owner's or shop manual I looked and looked and could not find it. Ah..ha behind the air cleaner!!! Since I am getting ready to take a long trip to Florida, I was able to check my fluid and add the necessary amount. Thanks for this post and for the very clear instructions on ALL the fluid and associated levels!

    I just bought a 1975 Lincoln it seems to go into drive great but when I go into reverse it shifts hard any ideas and suggestions I will be getting fluids changed as soon as I pick it up. Loved the video very helpful .

    • @xrmerkur
      @xrmerkur  3 месяца назад

      Congratulations Lisa on your commitment to preserve Continental Heritage / Legacy / History. 1975 is a great year, hope your garage door can still close 😂. But on a serious note, you’re headed in the right direction regarding transmission service. I’m certain more will be uncovered during this procedure about the harsh reverse engagement. Have a look at the motor mounts and transmission mounts. Also inspected the driveshaft for any slack. Also be sure the rear differential fluid is good too. Most importantly have a trustworthy mechanic help guide you to not throw parts at the car. It will take some time to learn the behavior of your 49 year young vehicle. please keep me/us posted on your findings. I will do some research as well of common issues that might be plague the 1975 model. Much Success!

  • @462ANIMAL

    It’s always a nice feeling getting them out or the first drive of the season. Was the brake master cylinder low on brake fluid for the rear brakes ? Small portion? Checking the transmission needs to be done when hot and running in park on level ground. Is your message center working?

    • @xrmerkur
      @xrmerkur  3 года назад +2

      the rear portion wasn’t totally low low, but i’ll needed to purchase more brake fluid. didn’t have it in time for making the video. thanks for the observation and the details on checking the transmission, I was in such a rush to do a one take in the rain that i turn the car off in habit 🤣. my message center has a mind of its own, sometimes it works when i least expect it. a super thanks to you for always watching my videos and providing excellent advice.

    • @462ANIMAL
      @462ANIMAL 3 года назад +1

      @@xrmerkur The rear brakes might be leaking.. wheel cylinders.. they don’t go low like the fronts can with pad loss. The message center unit in the dash is the usual suspect.. if it’s sometimes working. It might have cracks in the soldered joints.. just a re-flow can bring them back to life.. or it’s the metal box under the middle part of the dash .

    I know these cars like the back of my hand and I’m wondering did that carb ever catch fire? You have a massive gasket leak and fuel is not supposed to be flowing above the air horn. I wish there was a way I could reach you but I’m sure you’ve changed it out or had it fixed.

    Any problems with your variable ventura carb? My 80 mark vi Cartier left me sitting many

    • @xrmerkur
      @xrmerkur  8 месяцев назад +2

      the 302 is the most common 5 liter V8 and featured the new fuel injection system that was mainstay from 1980 - 1990. i believe the Town Car then switched to 4.6 modular V8’s. whereas the 351 was only available 1980 year Lincoln; it was a 5.8 liter Windsor V8 with a two valve electrically controlled carburetor.
