Love your music. Some trivia ... In 1965, I was in a band, in San Jose, called "The Citations" with Al Paoletti, Denis Correia and Greg Price. (Your Steve Price is Greg Price's little brother) Steve wanted to try playing drums, so our drummer, Al Paoletti taught him a few things and a few years later Steve became a fabulous drummer.
LOVE Pablo Cruise! They...and Dave Jenkins in particular..were a huge influence on me as a young kid in the 70s just picking up the guitar. That hot guitar solo in "Whatcha Gonna Do" is one of the great under-rated solos in 70s music, and every time Summer rolls around, I break out the Pablo CDs. Luckily, I've managed to catch them live several times over the past few years, and those guy have still got it! I even managed to meet Dave Jenkins and tell him he was a huge reason I picked up the guitar. He's reaction was "Wow, man! Thanks!". Best night ever. :-)
Saw them live in 1979 at Belmont Park in New York and again in 2002 at Westbury Music Fair in New York as well. I got to meet Dave backstage after the show in 2002...such a great guy!! Been a fan of theirs for over 40 years, Steve Price was my idol when I began playing drums back in the 70's and still is to this day. I just want to say thanks to Dave, Steve, and Cory for all of the great music.......brings back memories of my teenage years, it truly was an awesome time to be alive. And to Bud and Bruce....you are missed. "If you believe in forever, Then life is just a one-night stand. If there's a rock and roll heaven, Well you know they've got a hell of a band."
Im glad you acknowledged Bud. Bud was my uncle and its sad Dave didnt talk about him in this interview as he was one of the original. They did have a falling out when he left but doesn't matter. He should at least be truthful in his interview of the history of the band.
Ft. Worth colisium. 74 or 75. Intro band. Introduced as an up and coming band. Liked Robert Jenkins. Good voice. Excellent leads on the Tele. Bud Cockrell had soul on the bass and his vocals. Cool songs. Cory Lorios. Piano extraordinaire! Groovin drums. Still have four vinyls. Still digin em. The music of the 70s. Our generation. Everything else is forgettable.
I love how a black station thought these white boys were black because of their sound. I also love that they were able to still play the gig. The black culture gave the world a wonderful gift with their soulful/bluesy sounds. Pablo Cruise picked up on the vibe and played what they had learned... Blue Eyed Soul... Beautiful. We're all one race: Human. We are made up of different ethnicities. Each ethnicity has it's own gift to share. Let others influence you to produce a sound that is right for you... That is what sounds best. Be real. Be you.
"I was playing in the school band and then one night the Beatles came Ed Sullivan..........." How many times has that been said by our generation of musicians?????
I grew up playing guitar and bass with an emphasis on the former. However, my brother bought the A Place In The Sun album and I just connected with the bass lines going so far as to learn most of them along with the vocals. It was funny because players in my area were like "we thought you played guitar" and "we didn't know you sang". Thanks for helping me become more employable, Pablo Cruise!
One of my favorite bands always. A cool Dave Jenkins talk. it’s quite insulting for the feature to not mention founding member the late Bud Cockrell and to falsely imply it was a complete reunion.
Bud was my uncle. Dave should be ashamed of himself for leaving out the fact that my uncle was an original member and carried the band to fam with his soulful voice. He also should be ashamed for not telling the true HISTORY of the band. My uncles Grand daughter lives with me and she never met him so I was trying to show her about him and found this garbage. Its pretty sad tbh.
@@Bryan-lj9jn I'm very glad to see your comment and your motivations. Bud Cockrell was a megatalent, singing and otherwise. I've bought any music I have found related to him and Pablo Cruise. Before seeing this feature, I had only positive thoughts of Dave Jenkins. I tried to consider if the Decades TV Network had some irrational bias against Bud and may have edited what Dave said to remove any reference to him. But why in the world would they do that? They deal with loads of entertainment acts; a lot more people than the number of Dave's former bandmates. Even if Decades had some ludicrous anti-Bud bias, It really seems to me that Dave could have included mentions of Bud in vital sentences in such a way that Bud references would have to be included. If I were Dave, I certainly would have.
Agreed...so sad about Bud. Not only does Dave insult him by omission and the author's of this "Piece" insult him as well...they ALSO kept showing the followup LP after Bud had left. Bud sang the title track to "A Place In The Sun" which I always preferred to Whatcha Gonna Do. I'm sad Bud passed but am glad he is reunited with late girlfriend Patti Santos who sadly died in 1989 in a car crash...
@@MarklovesJoan I am glad to see your comment and Bud Cockrell and Patti Santos tribute. I also prefer the title track of "A Place In The Sun" to "Whatcha Gonna Do" although I love the whole album. Ever notice the major differences in the intro and first vocal between the single and album version? Another facet of talented Bud.
Its really a shame Dave is leaving out the TRUE history of the band. Dude should atleast tell the truth of the history. Bud was my uncle and was for sure the one who carried them to fame with his soulful voice.
@@Bryan-lj9jn I hope your uncle knew what an essential part he was to Pablo Cruise and also what an amazing musician and legacy he left with his solo material! I still listen to him regularly! Rip Bud!
He's kind of an under the radar guitarist, I think.....,I hear some very tasty (albeit, put together) phrasing (like Dave Mason, Peter Frampton, oh and Christopher Cross)...,phrasing is what makes ordinary notes sound like raindrops in the sun....,Just listened to their reunion stuff on YT and his interplay with Lerios is so locked in. I Go to Rio, the modulations - you didn't see that sort of thing until McDonald, Loggins and Jay Graydon and David Foster...,what? a decade later...,
I was playing a Sunset Boat party in SF in 2001, the average age 20-30 years old. 2 Dj's were playing the inside decks while I was playing the outside. As we pulled away from the dock, I could hear the two other dj's drop into their House music and Techno tracks, this was more or less a Rave Party of 380 people on a boat. My first song was "A place in the sun" ..not only did most people know it, but it easily stole half the crowd from the inside decks, ..I got into the more conventional Acid Jazz and Tribal funk sounds later, but to see a bunch people you don't really know react to a commercial song from 28 years before go off singing the chorus with their hands in the air facing the sun on the SF Bay was so satisfying on many levels, it was just the right song at the right time, I had so many compliments that night about my set, but manly being ballzy enough to start my set with that song instead of the more popular standers.
@@Bryan-lj9jn When I knew Bud in the 90's, he told me that him and Jenkins didn't really get along, and not mentioning him in this video sort of shows it.
Todays music is all high end studio Processors, loops, drum machines, and synthesizers it doesnt require a thought process and that is why it so Stiff sounding it has no longevity, no one will care about it ten years from now, no one will sing dance or talk about it. the best thing to do is to bring back the artist let them create write again and end this garbage music of 2020.
Still touring in 2023, good for them.
Who didn’t Love Pablo Cruise 🌴
Dave,...we still LOVE your excellent music, thanx for giving it to us.
Pablo Cruise was a significant part of my college years and every time I hear them I am immediately brought back to that time. Love this band!
Same here! Saw them in South Bend, Indiana in 1980. Got to meet them. Was too gobsmacked to talk. Haha.
I was finishing my last year of engineering school when this song came out. And then I said goodbye to my GF of 6 years.
What an awesome guitar player this guy was. Very unappreciated!
That's a great song. Great guitar solo.
multiple great voices in this band. really good songs.
Underrated band...
That song has one of the baddest grooves ever. Its just a bad ass song.
When we say today that our music is better than what passes for it today
*YOU BETTER BEST BELIEVE IT*

HE STILL LOOKS GREAT!!!! I GREW UP LISTENING TO HIS SONGS !!!!❤❤ PABLO CRUISE WAS FOUNDED THE SAME YEAR I WAS BORN 1973 INCREDIBLE!!!!!
Pablo Cruise was one of the great feel good bands!
Dave is a very tasty guitarist, very underrated.
The band is sensational. Thank you for all your great music.
Love their music, great times cruising and jamming their sound on my 4ch 8track. Thank you for this memory.

love your style Dave----thanks for the great memory triggers ! that live performance on youtube is a nice treat---you guys killed it !
My mom listened to Pablo Cruise, so she took me to a concert a couple months ago. Looovvve them!! Probably the only teenager! ha :)
You're very pretty. I would take you to a Pablo Cruise concert too.

Wonder how they sounded then since they didn't hit it big till later in the decade?

It Just happened to be a White group
They have so many great tunes. “Zero…” and “ Ocean Breeze” are two fantastic songs that never got airplay…sad!!

Talking about a tight band PC was one the best bands ever. They would have you rocking !!!!!!
Just played at the Sound in Clearwater, they are still very good, great musicians
Totally Awesome!!! ❤🎶
Saw them with Bob Welch , Foreigner, and Fleetwood Mac in '78.
Quite seriously, "Watcha gonna do" is one of the greatest guitar solos of all time.
It's real nice; let's not go overboard, though.
It's certainly one of my favorite.
Great Songs 😇😎
PABLO CRUISE FOREVER!!!!!!!
It's David's Hasselhoff Brother! fantastic music! Which still holds up !
Love "I Go to Rio" and "A Place in the Sun."
Great voice!
❤Pablo Cruise
Tonight at. The Mystic Theatre
Friggin Step Brothers was a good advertisement for the Cruise
It changed for many of us
No mention of Bud Cockrell, what a shame! He left soon after 'A Place In The Sun' to form 'Cockrell & Santos' who released a KILLER album!
Yep, the reunion wasn't the "original" band without Cockrell.
GaelDT *A Place in the Sun
My thoughts exactly.....Bud was an essential part of their early success.....sucks to not even mention him.

They didn't dissolve in 1981, it was after 1983. Their last album Out Of Our Hands came out in 1983.
An important band that was probably confused with a handful of equally important bands.

dude looks great considering what was going on during those days
Cool tidbit.

Wasn’t he in impractical jokers
Impractical jokers brought me here
Wait, his name is Dave and not Pablo?
Not one mention of bass player Bud Cockrell-thats bullshit
Umm...whoever made this video didn’t do their homework. Bud Cockrell died in the mid-2000’s, so the original band never reformed.
2010 to be exact. Dave should be ashamed of himself for trying to act like my Uncle wasnt one of the originals.

Check out Umphreys McGee and The String Cheese Incident. Two of the best bands out there.
Nice interview. All those jarring double-images are irritating as hell, though.
What Bullshit , never a mention of Bud Cockrell , the guy who wrote A Place In The Sun
Major talent , not deserved recognition
How old were you when you realized that Pablo Cruise wasn't black dudes? 57 for me
Wonder what's the point of these bands continuing on?
They had their time.
Go away....
If you have to ask you don't get it. You probably like Nickelback.
They actually play music with instruments not computers, with no jumping or twerking. Some people still appreciate that.
