Thank you for this mate, I haven't really done any kind of modeling before but im not bad at drawing so I have been wanting to give it a go. Great work as always!.
Great work and nice moulds. I would have kept the dyno in the first part of the silicon mould. So instead of taking the first poor apart, I would have fliped it all over and just removed the clay and keep the dyno in the mould. This would keep everything in the right place. But you are doing well.
Wow you are very good excellent artist, when i find your channel today i subcribed immediatly. Your work on criptyd are marvelous i hope you continue to do this and i really like to see an werewolf or a mothman sculpture.
Very nice, and I hope I'm not being to rude by just asking right away, but um what if I wanted one of these beautiful Allosaur's? Cause I don't have an Allosaur in My collection, and Ive been painting/building dinosaur dioramas, so I though it would be cool to try some new color schemes on something. And this Allosaur would be really nice.
This looks great! I've done some dinosaurs with polymer clay that I would like to replicate but I'm afraid that by making the mold the original figure could break..do you have any suggestions on that?
Love this, very well done! Can I ask what air compressor you use for the vacuum chamber? Is it the same one you use in your later video to do the resin pressure casting?
I know I'm not him, but when I do it it's sort of eyeball it and dependent on the pose of the animal. sometimes the axis is different too, like the top and bottom of the animal are the two halves.
is clay absolutely needed? I'm gonna be making a mold of a millenium box and I want to create a mold for resin pouring does this work the same? Also what is the best silicone to get for larger molds that isn't too expensive?
Sure, instead of using a vacuum compressor I used an air compressor made for tires that has a conveniently sized air intake hole. I bought a vacuum gauge and inserted one end into the compressor intake and the other onto my home made chamber which is a cooking pot with 1/2” acrylic for the lid and a seal cut out of a shelving/drawer mat. Then a valve drilled and glued into the acrylic lid. I use the same little tire compressor to fill my pressure chamber. Vacuuming the silicone is only necessary if you’re going to be pressure casting.

You could, some stop motion puppets were made kinda like that where they would put the pose able armature in the mold and fill it with foam latex. What effect are you looking for?
@@Kayakasaurus I’m “trying” to make and cast molds of my model horse sculptures! They are cast with a wire sometimes but not sure if they used a pressure pot or not.
@@Kayakasaurus Honestly, as long as it looks like an Allosaurus, then you've got nothing to worry about. I've seen 2018 illustrations still portraying Allosaurus as a T.rex with horns.
Hi, I haven’t used monster clay, I think it could be difficult to work w for this. I got Sculptex from ReynoldsAM website. Side note, the plaster jacket I made in this video is unnecessary, just trim the edges of the silicone so it lays flat
FilmerOfBobcats the smaller holes are vents and they release any air that will prevent the resin from filling the voids properly. I.e. air bubbles (the bane of all model makers) and scale painters.
Hi, the purpose of removing all of the bubbles from the silicone is so that they don’t get compressed when pressure casting. If you’re not pressuring casting then just carefully pouring the silicone is good enough! Smooth on also has no vacuum silicone called Mold Star 14-NV which is thinner so the the bubbles can rise out on their own.
I used a vacuum on the Silicone so that it could be used to pressure cast. It’s not necessary to vacuum the silicone if you’re not going using a pressure pot. I don’t vacuum the resin, I either just pour it in or use a pressure pot
@@Kayakasaurus thsnks for the reply. in short whats the difference between pressure casting and non pressure casting and does it mske much difference to the quality of the mold
Why can't you suspend the part with pegs from the bottom or small wires from the top... pour the bottom, release the parting line, and fill to complete the mold? I seem a lot faster and less prone to voids and error from hand filling the bottom with putty first.
With a simple object (or a model cut into multiple parts molded separately) the seam might go down the middle symmetrically and you could even skip clay, stand it on wires to support and later be vents, and use a knife to cut it out of a block of silicone. With a more complicated part where legs stick out the silicone would surround them and get stuck. So basically the seam follows everything that sticks out (like arms, fingers) or needs a vent to stick out of it, starting at the tail vent, to each limb each digit etc. I try to avoid undercuts where the mold halves would interlock like a puzzle piece. And also avoid shaping acute angles where the silicone would come to a point and not be as solid. I hope this makes sense
What about putting a channel into the mold which goes from the top to the lowest point of the empty space. When pouring n the resin it will rise from the lowest point to the highest and there will be a lower risk of trapping bubbles. I don't know if you will use resin on this one but in general it sounds like a clver addition to me.
What if I pour some silicone first to do the base then the place the dino cover all with silicone, wait to dry and then cute the whole thing in 2 pieces??? Could work? I don't have clay jeje

@@Kayakasaurus appreciate it! I’ve actually been trying to start a business similar to yours, but I’m on a budget, I’ve seen other techniques to try and get rid of bubbles, keep up the amazing work!
The model should remain in silicone form before pouring its second half. Otherwise, the model may simply shift and the shape will give a seam on the casting. And so everything is cool.
@@Kayakasaurus Can i ask you? When you stevie form with resin for degassing in the vacuum chamber, the resin does not behave like silicone? I mean not spilling out of the head when pumping air?
The vacuum is only needed if you’re going to put the mold in a pressure pot to cast. The pressure pot crushes air so if there are bubbles in the rubber they will get smaller and distort the mold. The small bubbles in this silicone will float up so the details of the mold will be fine without a vacuum.
Yep, it just depends on how complex and how big the item is. For something bigger cutting it into pieces and molding them separately in simple molds is best.

The air pressure shrinks the bubbles. It’s not necessary but it sure helps
