      No one is forced to work there........ I met a cast member who was 79 years old and had worked there almost 30 years. She loved it and couldn't imagine working anywhere else. Her husband worked there as well.

    I'm glad to hear this...and in the same breath, it makes me sad that so many people have trouble accepting that their actions bear consequences.

      Keep in mind...they are all young kids...but yes, it is sad. Calling for their "civil rights" no less!!! Makes you wonder just who is educating our children these days? Why this victim attitude? It is so prevalent..Is it a lack of "real world" experience, or the way they are being raised?

    I had a friend who worked at a restaurant at Disney World. Some guests took a photo and he was at the bar in the background. Knowing he was facing directly into their shot he smiled, thinking it'd be nicer than his blank face in the background. Well the guests raised hell saying he "photobombed" their photos and, sadly, he was terminated. He didn't mind much, actually. It seemed like a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. For all he knew they would have raised hell about catching a cast member not being friendly if he didn't smile.

      I did that in a photo pass picture once while working. The photo pass guy was NOT impressed. He gave me a good telling off.

      That's a terrible reason to get fired! if a cast member photobombed/ended up in my photo i'd love it.... but then again i'm a HUGE disney fan and i love cast members 😂

    I find your Cast Member series very interesting. I have a best friend that works at Disney full time and have heard a plethora of stories like these, such as people being termed for various reasons, the quality of guests and other CM's, good and bad. I think hearing your stories from a "foreigner" perspective is quite interesting, especially about the qualms of being termed with a work visa. I have been told by my friend to apply for the DCP and while I have some reservations about it, I really feel that it would be fun. I can't wait to see more in depths about your experiences. Cheers.!

    I have read about that slack seatbelt on Tower before with CMs like basically dangling on the ceiling. I thought it was an exaggeration lol wow crazy... I think all of the reasons for termination are reasonable. I think it's easy to feel "at home" at work, so it's important to remember to be professional at all times. Great video, really interesting stories and talking points. Thanks for sharing!

    I was termed from my cp because I got hurt during my shift one day. I followed all the protocols for when you get hurt, I told my leaders and did everything I needed to before I went to health services. I had no reprimands, no points, no housing violations, quite a few cast compliments, and serval four key cards. I cared about my guests and was very nice towards my fellow cm’s. It’s an incredibly messed up situation, but now I’m kind of happy I got termed. My injury is finally being taken care of.

    You can also get termed for being nosy and curious, similar to how you said the guy rode the coaster during his shift, (going into backstage areas without permission). Not following the Disney look (Costume is not maintained well, tattoos and piercings, hair styles not accepted). Walking on stage in costume in an area you don't work in or is close to, to get to your work station. You should always use backstage routes. (if you have a tomorrowland costume, but you're in main street). Giving guests incorrect or stupefied information (saying that there are two mickey mouses in the park, saying food is half off after 8 etc.,). Poor work performance, (not giving guests correct change, unsafe ride operating procedures, untidy work areas, being tardy and absent or coming back from breaks late). Trust issues, similar to the popcorn thing, (selling free admission tickets, letting friends/family into the park for free, going into the park after your shift in your street clothes, with your costume still in your locker backstage, taking property and supplies, giving away fastpasses). Poor conduct with coworkers, (having a relationship with a lead or manager, sexually harassing your coworkers or roommates, verbally or physically, having sex in the apartments.) Ruining the Disney magic. (Posting backstage areas on social media, wearing your costume and nametag outside of Disney. Revealing photos and/or videos of secret or upcoming attractions or rides on the internet). Finally, you can get termed for not smiling and using the two finger or open palm point. I'm dead serious. lol.

    • @ThatSoundsFun
      @ThatSoundsFun  8 лет назад +21

      +Charlie Chang wow. That is crazy! I did once try and get on one of the guest buses once in my uniform and they were having none of it. Got to keep the magic alive I guess.

    • @worldoftiffanyblair
      @worldoftiffanyblair 7 лет назад +11

      I don't think there was anything wrong with people changing clothes after their shifts and going out into the parks. I had a roommate (I did the DCP) who worked at Magic Kingdom and did this all the time, as well as a roommate who worked at Animal Kingdom who did the same thing. Why would that be a problem?
      And I think it's going a bit far to say you can get termed for not using the two finger point. You may be reminded or scolded, but getting termed just for that reason is not something I've ever heard of.

      Then a huge investigation should be conducted on Disney.That is known as wrongful termination and is illegal.

    • @chartle1
      @chartle1 7 лет назад +4

      What part of the above post is illegal?
      The only thing thing listed above that sounds odd, not illegal, is the going to the park after your shift. That needs a bit more clarification.

    • @walterelias7677
      @walterelias7677 7 лет назад +2

      The point is every CP signs an agreement that basically states Disney can fire you for any reason or no reason at all. They don't need a reason and every CP signs agreement that allows them to do so. It should not be a surprise really unless you don't read your agreements.

    Memories! I was there for Summer ICP 2011. Note on the underage thing. Buffalo Wild Wings (where CP buses bring you to) is a bars which allows minors but you get tagged with a big black X on the back of your hands. House of Blues has a different coloured wristbands for minors as well. It's just 6 months. Stay sober! Although I would have loved drinking around the world in Epcot. 😂

    in regards to english drinking age, the actually drinking age in england is like 10 you can drink with a meal in public at 16. the reason english laws are more relaxed is because there is a lot of grey areas/ different boundaries when it comes to drinking laws.

  • @valeriaalessandra6072
    @valeriaalessandra6072 7 лет назад +7

    Lmao, I got to the part where you were talking about getting termed for simply eating a popcorn and it reminded me of something I witnessed. I'm an annual passholder so I visit the parks often and sometimes I like to just chill in the pavilions at Epcot. I was sitting under the covered area with food in Mexico and I saw that a working cast member had taken a margarita to the trash bin, set it down where the tray's would go and left it for about 10 minutes. I thought it was odd that it was literally sitting there intact, rather than thrown away. Assuming he thought that no one would be looking (except I was, I was staring at that margarita with heart eyes because I thought someone abandoned it and I wanted to give it a new home) - he took an empty, large soda cup, and "stealthily" slipped the frozen margarita into it, placed the lid on and kept working. THAT TO ME WAS SO WILD. I WAS SHOOK. ?!?!??! IDK MANG

    I'm from NZ and worked in a summer camp and one of the American Counselors had a camper spot some cans of beer in her cabin box as the counselor was pulling clothes or something out. This was passed onto Senior Camp staff then management she was pulled up to their office, her cabin and all her belongings searched. She was instantly terminated and had to spend the night at the Camp Managers house and was driven off and escorted off the property the next morning.

    Getting fired for eating popcorn or ice cream isn't just at Disney, here in the states most fast food places and restaurants here have the same set of rules.
    I had a friend who put a french fry in her mouth at work that she had not paid for and was fired instantly!
    If you ask a manager, some of them may let you take something that's leftover home with you at the end of the day after closing time, but most won't.
    The only time you are allowed to eat at work is at lunch break, and even then, only if you pay for what you eat. Some places do give employee discounts, but nothing is free.
    Unfortunately they would rather throw food out than to give the food to their employees to eat or to take home to their families.

    • @ThatSoundsFun
      @ThatSoundsFun  8 лет назад +6

      +An Original that's so crazy. Rules are rules though! I would just want to eat everything!!

    • @gemmamurray5828
      @gemmamurray5828 8 лет назад

      It's not all about the money...it's because the food etc. are no longer fit for service for a guest means that it's potentially not fit for you health and safety wise. Of course health and safety has gone mad now(!) Money wise, they may well weigh every ounce of 'wastage' to balance their stocks and ensure that they know where they are loosing money to perform better in the future etc.

    • @YouShotMyRobot
      @YouShotMyRobot 7 лет назад

      Just to add more info, I worked quick service food and beverage at Disneyland CA and one of the reasons they don't want you eating food that will be spoiled is that they think it encourages CMs to spoil more food for a chance of getting free food at the end of the day. At least this was the case in my area where CMs were caught spoiling a lot of food consistently.

    • @flyhi2773
      @flyhi2773 7 лет назад

      I'd say its not as crazy as it sounds because I very briefly worked at a place where damaged stock - packaging or one can in a pack of six was sold dirt cheap to employees but damages rocketed so they had to end the practice and sure enough, a lot less stock got damaged. Same with cooked fast food; people will just cook more than needed knowing they can take it home.

    WDW College Program Spring '97. One of my roommates was terminated for having a friend from out of town (another female) crash overnight. She signed in, never signed out, so Vista Way security came knock on on our door at 3am. It was spring break and I'd worked the very late shift so I had no idea. Long story short, they flushed the guest out of the room after some questioning, reported to all of our sites that we'd be spending the morning being questioned further, and my roommate was gone that night.

  • @PennieK

    I was 18 - just got to drink in the UK when I went. The age on the ID wasn't something we had. My FL resident card did though. My roommates were 20,21,25,28 and 40. They've obviously clamped down as I was at loads of parties, and as long as people under 21 weren't drinking, security didn't do much. But I was at Vista Way. We did hula parties - vodka jelly galore! Fancy dress parties, pool parties.... And we were always in Bennegins! A couple of people I know got terminated for drinking. I worked in f&b and every once in a while our managers would let us have a few bits of the leftover food at the end of the night. The rest of the time it was totally off limits. I heard the story about the guys on ToT!

    • @ThatSoundsFun
      @ThatSoundsFun  8 лет назад +11

      I have heard since that quite a few people have done it over the years! Apparently, it is something you get told about as a warning when you work there of things that people can do and I guess some of the cast just want to test it out! I know the guys I saw were not the first and I doubt they will be the last!!

    Wow that`s insane. I work at Busch Gardens and we arent at all as strict. Maybe because I was a camp counselor, but we all had the same rules as the rest so? Maybe because we arent as into keeping to magic as Disney is. We`re just a zoo with rides basically. We`re allowed to post BTS things a lot and the only thing we really restrict from public is some of the back areas due to people not understanding that tigers have a metal cage at night to ya know, not kill us.
    Also question, is it mandatory for you to wave at the trams and trains?

    Hi there!
    I am planning to work at Disney World next summer (2018). Do you know more about the kind of student exchange thing? Cause I am from Canada and I am really determinate to work there since few years! Thanks, loved the video 💗

      I'm not overly sure what the options are coming from Canada. I believe it used to be similar to what we were offered. I know that Yummy Jobs (the company I went through) also deal with Canadian applicants. Here is their website: www.yummyjobs.com/ and I know that they have a live chat if you have any questions. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

    I can understand why here in the US we have the drinking ages where they are, at 20 you are not considered a minor. Anyone who is under 18 is considered to be a minor once you're 18 your considered an adult. There are quite a few college age students who rent homes in my neighborhood and we go through hell when they live here during the school year. Purely because of their behavior and lack of respect for others who have kids and want to sleep at 3 am.

    my best friend from work got caught selling tickets yesterday he is still on probation (3months in), and is worried about losing the job. is this automatic termination or would this be a warning? or pass taken away? He has a good record so far of never showing up late or calling off. He told me he wrote a statement and they would give him a call of when to come in and to bring his uniforms just in case which sucks tbh.

Would it be a problem if I go to parties with People 21+ with alcohol and stuff like this even if I don't drink but just chill with them? I mean, there will be so many alcoholic moments but I will not drink and maybe managers can be suspicious??? What are your opinion?

      For me personally, I wouldn't risk it. If you are around alcohol and they suspect you of drinking (even if you didn't) you can get in a lot of trouble. I mean there is also a chance that nothing would happen and you would be fine. It is always worth asking about it when you get there so you know exactly what the rules are and where you stand.

    9:25 getting fired for eating the food seems petty, but I think Disney looks at it as more of a major flaw in the person's character and tendency to make really bad decisions than the fact it was just an ice cream cone or popcorn. Being under 21, will I be terminated just for being in the same building as the alcohol, or is it only if you're actually drinking? Like if one of my housemates had alcohol in another room will it still effect me?

    • @ThatSoundsFun

      If you are under 21, it is unlikely that you will be put with others that are over 21. So if you are underage, all of your housemates would be too. So in that instance, if it was found in your apartment, you would be liable.

    • @chartle1
      @chartle1 7 лет назад +7

      Yes at 18 you are no longer a minor and can vote, sign contracts and get married without your parents consent in the US.
      The issue with alcohol is a bit more complicated. Some time after the voting age was lowered to 18 in 1971 some states also lowered the age of consuming alcohol to 18 some with limits like only beer and wine or only low alcohol "3 2" beer (3.2%).
      With the lowering of this age there was a rise in Drunk driving fatalities. Most of the US has a car culture and everyone drives and at the time Drunk Driving was little more than a traffic ticket.
      By the mid 80's some states stated to raise the age probably due to the pressure of groups like Mother Against Drunk Driving MADD.
      States that kept their age at 21 would see the number of alcohol related accidents rise on the weekends from under 21 drivers returning from states that had a lower drinking age. It got to the point that some of those states raised the age to 21 for non residents.
      In 1986 the Federal government passed a law that pretty much forced states to raise the age to 21.
