    Since the vast majority of the crew are housekeepers, food service, etc., it’s nice to see you mention them. I’ve watched a lot of these crew videos and they are pretty much always someone in the entertainment department. I have been on several cruises as a passenger but I am also a professional stagehand and have known a number of performers who have worked cruise ships. Sometime though, I would like to see a video made by one of the food service, housekeeping or custodial staff to see how their life is different from the entertainment staff, beyond the obvious difference of the actual work they do.

      Well yes...
      Because ONLY contractors can film or even eat in main spaces
      They are a small fraction
      The regular employees. So not easy in main dining do paying customer activities and don't get to film.
      Same with any resort
      Hotel
      Super market
      Etc

      @kkkkk7216 9 месяцев назад +8

      As she said there is difference between staff and crew. Food and beverages services and housekeeping are crew (unless you are manager or assistant manager). Crew are not allowed to film or be in guests areas apart from when they are working. On some cruise lines if they find that you have phone with you when you are working you will get warning ( 3 warnings and u are fired). So don't expect videos like this from those departments anytime soon and also crew is easier to replace, so lets say someone from Thailand decides to open his youtube channel and films his working experience, company can just replace him, there are many waiters and housekeepers in every hotel around the world. However if you are dancer it takes a lot of time to train for the shows so they are a lot harder to replace.

    I worked on Cruise ships in my 20’s, back in the 1990’s. I worked in the gift shops and then as a Cruise Staff Host for a total of 4 years, usually for between 6-9 months per contract. As the shop manager I had my own cabin which was great! You’ve done a fantastic & comprehensive job explaining what life is really like onboard. For me, it was a great opportunity to travel the world and experience unique places while meeting some wonderful people. Thanks for this.

    It is good to see these videos and know there are people who actually live in the depths of the ship who are the backbone of the entire operation. It is one thing to see the crew, shows and entertainment while not thinking about where crew go when the cameras and the crowds are gone. Not a job for the fainthearted or those who always think 'Titanic' whenever they see a ship... any ship even a cargo ship... also, the fact that Enchantment of the Seas is still sailing in 2023 is itself a miracle.

    People go on cruises to have that magical vacation/holiday. You don't think about what goes on in areas the guests can't access or how all these crew people live when they're not working. And I guess that's kind of the point of a magical vacation, to forget the little things, but I find the behind the scenes stuff fascinating (like the Disney World underground tunnels) and I think a lot of the stuff you shared here should give cruisers a better understanding and some appreciation for the crew who make that fantasy on the higher decks possible. We appreciate the hard work and sacrifice you crew folks make (being away from friends and family for long periods of time) to give the guests that memorable experience and let them forget the real world for a little while. Thank for sharing. Well done video.

    I'm still 15 years old. My brother will be working on a cruise ship in like 3 months. I am having interests to also work in a cruise ship. I would say my english is decent and it would be good enough to do daily conversations (English is not my first language). But i do have my concerns so if any crews or former crews are here, your help would mean a lot.
    So first, what are the medical checkups to work in a cruise ship? I personally have some concerns. I have some crooked teeth and also have keratosis Pilaris (Both of which are fixable but won't be easy haha).
    Second, I am worried about one major thing, and that is my social life. As a teen who spent a huge portion of my life in my home with very little social life because of Covid. I stutter quite a lot when saying repetitive words. I always say those words too fast so it almost becomes hard to know what I'm saying
    Third, i am an introvert. Even though I'm not badly introverted, sometimes during a conversation i don't know what to say or what to choose the topics of the talks are
    Fourth, How is the daily expenses on cruise ships? I know the food and cabins are free, but how is the other stuffs like Wifi, and etc? Especially that I'm looking to work as a food service which have a low pay compared to others
    Lastly, what is the work time? What is the time you spend at work daily? I've heard that sometimes it's around 8-16 hours a day and 7 days a week which is quite a lot but still manageable
    So yeah, that's about it, if anyone's reading this please give some advice haha

    I watched a documentary on cruise ships. You know what makes a cruise profitable are alcohol sales. Most of the cabin money goes to food etc. You make decent money at 700 a week take home. Nice to see the world. Last April was the first time I left the US. Mexico cruise on carnival at age 49. The juice was horrible.

    Do you need to know how to swim to work on a ship? Also, I know you touched on this, but are there rules against crew that want to date or "hook up"? I am just curious how they would be able to monitor that. I am sure it happens when you have a lot of adults working together day after day in a confined space.

    • @krista.jocelyn
      @krista.jocelyn  11 месяцев назад +1

      So Royals pay is based on ship size so the bigger the ship the more the pay, which Norwegian doesn’t do! He liked Seabourn but I think prefers a larger cast (his was only 6) and slightly bigger ships but the itinerary was really cool. And for royal auditions he submitted online and was hired through the videos!

Me and my boyfriend are looking at working with NCL so any tips on how we could apply and what we would need will be so so so appreciated. I do have a few questions if you dont mind me asking lol:
    1) Would we need any job expierence to start working on the ship? we arent entertainers and looking at working anywhere else (bar, waiters, shop, housekeepers etc)
    2) Would it be possible for NCL to take both me and my bf or is that rare where they hire 2 people at once?
    3) How could me and my boyfriend request a room togther with NCL if we happened to start working there, would we even be able to because we have been dating for almost 3 years but havent lived together because we are in highschool ?
    4) Any other information will be appreciated as we really really want to work on the ships and feel a bit lost on what we could maybe need since we are finding it hard to get information on how to start etc.
    thank you so much! we really appreciate any form of help!

    I have a question. If you're married but you want to work on a cruise ship, does your husband and kids get to live on the cruise ship with you or do you have to like leave your family for the time that you're going to be gone working on the cruise ship?
