Thank you so much for sharing this video. My Wife wanted me to call me a plumber, and I was going to the next morning. Until I saw your video. My wife was like that's not going to work. I was well let me try it. So I did and it worked perfectly. Thanks for everything and saving me a lot of money.

Thank you my friend. I was in a panic mode when I saw water leaking on the main floor and dripping in furnace room and started googling the problem and there was your video just sitting for me :-). I went to Lowes and got one of the direct connect (before going to Lowes I checked the tube it turned out to be 1/4”. Got one with 1/4” OD. It worked like a charm. Thanks again Joe. Thank you for this video. After four (4!) trips to Ace Hardware I was frustrated by all these know-it-alls who knew nothing. So I got online becuz I wanted ice and water from my refrigerator, damn it. This video explained how Joe had the same problem trying to convince his hardware store that he did not want to mix copper with plastic, either. I had to actually show the video in order to get the parts I wanted. Now we have a working refrigerator.
I recently punctured our water line with a knife (don't ask...) and was looking at a potential $300 bill to replace the line simply because I don't know any better. Thanks to your video and helpful advice, I was able to fix it myself for $3! Thanks so much!!!
Thanks. I had a refrigerator line leak this morning I had to cut open drywall to get to the leak. Turns out I had a mouse chew the line. With the help of your video I got everything working again. Btw I caught the mouse with a bucket.
@@VideoJoeKnows I let it go outside. I've never seen a mouse in my house before and was really surprised. I bought a bunch of mouse traps, so if there are any more they won't get off scot-free like the first one.
@@piotr5646 Speaking of sticky mouse traps I caught one once & it was just caught by the foot & was still alive. I took it outside & scraped off under his foot with a butter knife & he ran off. I couldn't just watch it squirm until he keeled over could I? LOL
This was the perfect solution to my problem as I knew exactly where the leak was. I got my coupling at Lowes for less that $4.00 and it worked to perfection. Thank you ever so much for saving me over $100 that I would have had to pay someone to come to the house and fix it.
+Dennis Giancola Dude you are so welcome. when I say this fitting I knew I had to make a video about it so viewers like YOU would find it & save some more money! Great job! Joe :0
Dude thanks a lot! I discovered I had a leak in my water line this morning. Found your video and went out and found the exact same part you used for $3.50 and had my problem fixed in no time. Sweet!

Thanks for posting this. Big help. Had a pin sized leak in my water intake hose discovered yesterday after the drywall ceiling in my basement starting dripping water. Who knows how long that slow leak had been going on. My line was connected to the copper and to the frig with these quick connectors and I had no idea how to remove the plastic lines - tried using pliers, etc no luck. Your video allowed me to do it and switch out the line with a good one in about 2 minutes. Thank you!! Now bigger question is why these blue water in-take lines spring a leak in the first place????

Man thanks for posting this video I had a couple of these already installed could not figure out how to un hook them from the little white connector like yours thanks so much
Thanks! I've already had a plumber come out once to fix a leak in my water line to the fridge because it had a pinhole leak. Now the coupling that he put on (one of the copper ones) popped off because of freezing temps (the line is under the house in the crawl space). I will be replacing it myself to save money this time. Only thing is, I hate going under the house! Waaaahhhhhh!

I have a similar issue the tubing that goes from the bootom of the front of the fridge to the door for the water in the door has developed a pin hole leak in the tubing ( I suspect the new cat as the grill was off the bottom of the fridge from the last water filter change). Is 1/4" tubing typical? Can I get the tubing and connectors at Home depot?

Thank you so much !! I had to remove the doors on a fridge to get it in the house and didn't know how to remove the quick disconnect water line until this ... Again thanks !! CT...
Good question but I would think they will last a long time since they are made to repair these types of lines so my belief is they will last just as long if not longer than the rest of the line. Put it this way....your existing line is liable to get another pin hole leak before this coupling were to break down & leak. Thanks for stopping by & good luck with your repair...!
@@VideoJoeKnows wow quick reply thanks! I am looking at one of those plastic push fittings and am thinking it is about 15 or 20 years old and I am 75 percent sure it is what is leaking. Just doing some tests now over time to make sure.
@@meetro7522 Well then if you think it's leaking from there then my suggestion would be to remove it & install a new coupling fitting there. Hopefully you can see how to push the coupling apart & remove without cutting your waterline pipe any shorter so that you can still install a new coupling to simply swap out & then your waterline is still long enough...see what I mean?
Well did it work for you? Let me know! I had more parts to this video series as this was just part 2. Hope you had a chance to see the rest. You can go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to refrigerator & see the others if need be. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner!
Hopefully somebody can chime in on this. I have a slow leak from the coupler. Do I need to replace the coupler, or simply pull the lines out, trim a little bit off and reinsert? Thanks
I would try to recut pipe end & reinsert coupler to see if your idea might work & if not then replace the entire coupler but if the coupler is fairly knew maybe it's not pushed on there far enough....? Let me know how you get it fixed. Thanks!
can I just cut off the last 2 ft where my little hole that's leaking out of the line is? and then just stick that cut off and back in the back of the fridge and screw down that nut? reason I ask is the end of this plastic water line has a tip on it and I'm wondering if it will be ok without that plastic tip?
No. This video shows a quick connect butt splice for two ends of tubing. ie cut out the leaking piece of tubing and splice the remaining ends together. You want a compression fitting that connects the line to the brass fitting on the refrigerator. Take the brass nut/ferrule and attached stub of tubing to the hardware store they'll fix you up.
What you do with plastic hosing to connect to a brass fitting is insert a small compression fitting into the plastic tube which compresses the plastic from the inside against the compression collar on the outside. It is more stable and less prone to leaking than the plastic compression fittings which rely of a circular row of sharp teeth to grip the plastic hose. They cut into the hose and if you are not careful when moving the fridge out for cleaning etc, the teeth will slice right through the plastic tubing and you have a leaky mess to clean up.....again.
Yes you could use the brass connections but I saw this plastic coupler & thought I would give it a try & the entire time I was there the coupling worked fine but I have read some viewers comments saying they leak after awhile.

I did this the first time it broke and it worked. The tube just broke again, several years later. I had leftover tubing from the last time. The tube breaks at the bend/curve from the valve to the ice maker line. It breaks right at the center of the bend on the outside wall . Not from this repair, its the plastic tubing. Not sure why GE chose to bend this tubing. I am thinking I might have better luck with an elbow or two, they make those too, so that I do not have a stressed tube . Simple fix really, the first time it happened I thought it was the valve. 2ft of tubing less than 1 dollar.
Sounds like a plan if you use the elbows as you have stated. Yes it's pretty easy once you've done it once! I did this repair so long ago I'm not sure if I could do it again....! LOL
Ryan Dunham Not sure why it's leaking at the new coupling as a new coupling should not be leaking. Did you install 2 new couplings in your initial leak area or were you able to fix it with just one coupling. Maybe the new couple was defective. You could try replacing the coupling with a different new coupling. That's what I would try. Or maybe it's leaking just barely about the coupling at where the initial leak was coming from making you think it was the coupling...? Just a thought.
These lines are absolutely the worst. Unfortunately, the people who owned our house before have this line behind the actual cabinetry. I have fixed this three times and just got another pinhole leak from this transparent cheap line. I used the copper version and they work great. However, these vinyl lines are absolutely crap. I am guessing there are inconsistencies in the thickness and as pressure builds areas with less resistance are compromised. It has always been little pinhpoles and mornings of turning off water at the sink cleaning up the leak and being generally pissed off.
+Brandvegn It seems now days most of the lines coming out of new refrigerators are this plastic tubing. Probably to cut down material costs I'm sure. Did not realize though the issues you have brought up. Good to know. Thanks for your message! Joe :0

Ha! Did you find any creepy crawlers under your house?! Hope you got your refrigerator line repaired..... Joe :0
Thank you!! This was very helpful!
Glad to hear you liked this video. This is part 2 of the video series so if you want to see the rest then watch the other videos!
Exactly what I needed! Thanks!
Awesome!
Should I remove the brass fittings from the refrigerator's hose to use the push coupling?
If you have brass fittings then does that mean you have a copper water line? What did you do to get it fixed?
Where did u get those couplers from?
I got the couplers at The Home Depot. Hope you already have your project completed though. I have lots of DIY topics & videos on my channel for more learning. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to see all they ways you can save money around the house. Try it!
Very useful information. I didn't not know how to go about this situation.
Thank you for posting your video.
Thanks for your message. Glad this video assisted you!
Thank you for the idea!!!!! I pin pointed my hole. Cut that section out, added a coupler and bam, fixed. Thanks!
Bam yourself! Nice job! Thanks for watching this video of course!
Did just the trick when it came to fixing a pinhole leak that had developed. Thanks.
Awesome to hear. Thanks for letting me know!
Awesome joe!! This was my issue thanks!!!
So glad to hear this video assisted you! I know you have more things to do around the house & I'm sure you want to see more ways for you to save your money...right? Well.....just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down & have at it!
So, my parents doesn’t use the ice maker line anymore and had completely turn off the valve for it but it still drips. Does this solution help also?
No this would not help.....Sounds like your actual water valve in the wall is dripping? If it is then that's a different issue altogether. I have plumbing repair videos on my channel. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down & you will find them! Be more specific as to where you think the leak is coming from so I can assist further...? Sorry for the late reply womp womp!
+Paul Dry Yes you should be able to get your supplies at the home depot. That's where I got mine. Good luck with your repair!
thanks for the info, after seeing how to disconnect is was able to cut the cord slightly so i can re-insert and now there is no leak.
Awesome sauce. Nice going!
Yes I did. It’s working now. Thank you
Awesome. Thanks for letting me know! Anytime you have a DIY question just ask...
Thanks for showing me how those little plastic disconnects work.
+rhvreugde You're welcome. Thanks for watching this video! Joe :0
Thanks for saving my ass with this video ❤️. For $7 I fixed the broken waterline myself with a plastic part from Ace Hardware! Including chopping out the stupid copper link that someone else did! Thank you! Thank you! Thank-you!
Awesome. So glad to hear you were able to fix it yourself. Nice work! I have other videos that could save you even more money around the house. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down through the many DIY topics I have waiting for you!

Thank you so much !! I had to remove the doors on a fridge to get it in the house and didn't know how to remove the quick disconnect water line until this ... Again thanks !! CT...
Awesome that you got it fixed yourself by watching this video! Thanks!
Now we’re talkin’. Helpful !
Thanks for stopping by!
Can these plastic couplings leak over time?
@@VideoJoeKnows yep. Push the inner ring and good to go! Changing it out tomorrow! Thanks for the help!
@@meetro7522 Way to go! Thanks again for stopping by. Let me know how it goes tomorrow...
Excellent thank you so much!!!!
Well did it work for you? Let me know! I had more parts to this video series as this was just part 2. Hope you had a chance to see the rest. You can go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to refrigerator & see the others if need be. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner!
thank you it help me a lot with the fitting, I never seen one before so therefore I didn't know how to uninstall it but now I do.
+grumpy Awesome! Way to go! Joe :0
Thank you sir, that was all I needed to see, I wasn't for sure on how to disconnect the coupling.
They work pretty good once you know how to use them. Thanks for learning!
Thanks!
thank you so much this made it so easy to do took less than 5 min to get done
Awesome job. Way to go!
can I just cut off the last 2 ft where my little hole that's leaking out of the line is? and then just stick that cut off and back in the back of the fridge and screw down that nut? reason I ask is the end of this plastic water line has a tip on it and I'm wondering if it will be ok without that plastic tip?
Hmmm not sure. What did you end up doing? Did you do it? did it work out?
Thanks for your detailed message!
Those quick connects always leak after a few months. Going with brass tomorrow.
Yes you could use the brass connections but I saw this plastic coupler & thought I would give it a try & the entire time I was there the coupling worked fine but I have read some viewers comments saying they leak after awhile.
Well did you end up installing the brass connectors? How did the install go? Is it still holding?
Thank you so much this is exactly what I needed. I had a hairline leak and didn't want to buy a whole new line.
Same here! Thanks for your message. Did you know I have more DIY videos on my channel? Of course I do! Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to find out how much money you're going to be saving! Thanks again for stopping by....a year ago!

Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to refrigerator & you will find them. In any case I purchased the part (coupling repair kit) at The Home Depot.
LOL
Me and my Dad tried the exact same thing, but afterwords it just began leaking at the new joint! Any ideas on how to fix that?
Joe :0

How does a person feed a water line under floor boards to hook to kitchen refrigerator
Either from the basement/crawl space tap on a cold water line with a saddle clamp they sell kits and come up from there, or most typically tap the sink cold water supply line and route the hose inside the back of the kitchen cabinets.
Were you able to do it?
I did that and there’s no leaked but I still don’t see any ice yet what did I do wrong?
Did you turn the water back on to your ice maker?
Did you reset the ice tray so it will make ice cubes again?
I did. I tried again resetting both will wait now. Thank you
@@ssr218 OK. Let me know if that works...
This is like a documentary, 2 hours long of fixing tubings.
t dub I give out some good info all along the way in order to give first timers the information they need to decide if they want to do it themselves.
Ty for the help
You're welcome of course! anytime!
I was hoping you would show how to replace the small line to the left of the long water line T
Sorry. That line was fine at the time so I didn't have to touch it. Maybe they make different size couplings so you could use on that too?
what's the part number
Oh not sure what the part number was but I bought the part at The Home Depot & it worked great.
