Thanks to this video I was able to unclog the frozen ice that was causing the leak on the fridge. I’m pretty sure hiring someone to do that would’ve run me a couple hundred dollars. Drain pan was dry as a bone! Dust and dirt in the line built up blocking the flow, cleared the line in 5 minutes and we’re all set. Thanks for potentially saving us hundreds on calling a repair man!

My kitchenaid wasn't as complicated/fancy as yours but your vid helped me solve my issue. My drain pipe was clogged and so the drip trap would be empty for a few days and then whoosh a bunch of water would somehow come into the drip tray, enough to splash a little beneath the fridge. I took out and cleaned the drain hose and also cleaned inside the freezer and now it is good! Thanks and subbed!
This is a great video and I used your methods to fix my side by side whirlpool refrigerator. You method can be used on any fridge.. I had food blockage in the drain pipe of the freezer section...was 2 pieces of Cilantro frozen. I used a can of Blowoff Duster which is compressed air, and a thick silicone vaccum hose to blow out the stuck food from the bottom of the drain pipe after defrosting. I did not need to remove the back panel. Also dust & dog hair caked up on my coils. I used a shop vac. Then to keep dust out / off the coils ...in front the the kick panel that passes air...I used Honeywell carbon pre-filter 38002 material (ebay) from my Hepa filter. And with velcro I made a filter that passes air easily. But catches the dust & hair from being sucked in thru the bottom front of fridge. Then I ran 5/8 Grey foam backer rod between the very bottom of fridge to the floor. So that the air will only go through the filter most of it. Hopefully to keep clean my coils
This is a great tutorial step by step my fridge has these exact symptoms and the drain pan is dry. I'm tired of putting paper towels down on the floor in front of the fridge and I don't have my ice maker hooked up to the water line. I just go down to the Costco and buy a bag of 16 lb ice and fill it up

Excellent! Cheers my man. Such an easy fix for my fridge-freezer. 2 screws and a single panel all the way up the back of the freezer compartment. Loosened the panel and there was a huge thud as a 3x6x12inch slab of ice fell out. Some of the elements had bent so had to gently persuade them back into alignment. Hoping that won't be too much of an issue in the future but for now I can save a couple hundred on repair or replace.
Water leaking at door today, wife immediately started shopping for a new fridge. I jumped on RUclips and this video helped. My problem was the actual tube he is pointing out in the back. Dust/dirt clogged mine and backed everything up. Hot water, blowing hard to push the junk out, then using a flexible pipe cleaner and gtg. Cleaned up the ice inside the freezer and all the junk in the back so we’ll see how she does.

Very very good video, after I watched your video I solved my refrigerator in 30 min, I found a lot of ice inside because the black rubber from the tube was locked and the drain of water was stopped. Thank you!
THANK YOU! after a minute of your video, I went and discovered that it was the ice build up! Hopefully my refrigerator doesn't pee all over the floor anymore!!!
This fixed my problem. My drain pipe in the back was actually clogged with God knows what. I pulled it off and hit it with the air compressor. Put it back on, heated up the drain vent with heat gun from inside and it started working again!
If you have a place to keep all your fridge and freezer food, you can just unplug and leave it open for a couple of days to melt it out. If you don’t, this method is much faster.
I got a new LG french doors kept in my garage (so not hooked up to H2O) and each day we find water under the freezer, also the freezer maxes at 3-7 degrees empty, not zero. Any clues my friend? Thanks much
The defrost cycle runs once a day and produces water under the unit, in a drip tray. A fan blows on the drip tray and evaporates the water. Either your fan is defective, or you garage is so humid that the water won’t evaporate. If the garage is significantly hotter than a typical house indoors, the freezer temp will lag somewhat. Basically, freezers and refrigerators are designed to run in a 70 to 80° household. When they are put in a garage, outside that range, some strange things can happen. There can also be a problem if the temperature in the garage gets below 40°. Believe it or not, this will cause your freezer contents to completely thaw. I did another video on that topic, and how to fix it
@@HowToLou Very interesting, but I live in a low-humidity region. and the 20 year old fridge I had out there never struggled, just the new LG. The seller is basically dismantling it at his shop to find the problem, he made the tube larger and the temp went from 7 degrees to 38! Interesting. Here are my new thoughts, which may also be wrong, but I will try. My new theory is that your garage is hot, and that hot air is rising up the drain tube and constantly melting some ice in the freezer and its dripping back down. If you have low humidity, you likely don’t have any ice buildup that needs to be defrosted. Fridge frost comes from warm humid air hitting the cold coils. I would try plugging the drain entirely for a couple of days and see what happens. The water must be coming from the air or something you have in the freezer that is melting. Another idea is to run the freezer completely empty for a few days. That would eliminate any water you put in there, and it would have to come from humidity. This is a tricky problem, but trying those things will help rule out certain causes and finally expose the source of the problem.

Even though it's a different make, the principle was the same, we also had difficulty navigating the flimsy plastic parts. Lol Although I managed to crack them superficially, we've cracked it, job done good.👍 Same problem, ice block from hell. I administered the hairdryer, out popped a large ice burg with a nipple on it. Immediately we heard a satisfying trickling noise as the melted water freely ran into the drip tray. Bingo, bobs your uncle, fannys your Auntie. Very pleased.
Does this work with a fridge with a freezer at the top too? Could this also explain why our freezer is too cold, even though we have it on the least cold setting?
I have a beko simple fridge with the freezer below. Had the same problem, followed your advice on the bottom deep freezer drain was clogged. Openned up an removed the ice. Now the hair dryer approach is long. I took a glass of hot water pourred in the tray and the glass dissolved in seconds. Drain is now clear. How long will it stay like that who knows. In my case I topped higher a little the freezing temp. Maybe that way it will not freeze so string again. Thanks for the vid
I suppose if you have the time you could also just unplug the refrigerator if there is nothing in it and let it defrost, then when you plug it back in not turn the cold up to max. I have a double-door refrigerator doing this at an AirBnB for quite some time.

No. There are drawers with room for ventilation around them. Ever since i removed that rubber flap at the bottom, i have never had the problem again, no matter how much we stuff in there.
Could this be more of an issue of setting the freezer temp too cold so the water evaporating freezes and blocks the drain with ice. I wonder if you turned down the freezer temp so it dose not cool for so long would fix the issue
from an appliance tech, please dont use a hair dryer to melt the ice by the evaporator. i cant count the damaged ive seen to the plastic molding that breaks the seal, now water/ice will get into the insulation water logging it. let it defrost slowly and pour hot water down the drain to clean it out. the duck bill you are removing on the drain spout in back is needed to keep the moisture out, just clean it up good. otherwise nicely done sir.
I agree you need to be careful with a hair dryer. Hot water is a good alternative. I don’t agree on the duck bill. While I understand it will let humid air in, more importantly, it lets warm air in, and keeps the drain pipe ice-free. I am sure this is not what LG recommends, but if they had it designed correctly, this video would not be getting 600 views per day. With the duck bill off, I have not had a problem since I published this video, over a year ago.
I'm having this leaking fridge issue. If my problem is ice clogging the drain, would I be able to simply empty the fridge, unplug it, and leave it open for a day, to flaw it all out?
That would defrost the ice excess but one common reason for this issue ir dirt clogging the drain tube, so in that case you should be checking it as well and make sure it is free, otherwise the issue will return in 4 or 5 days.
I just did the ice cleaning but I will also get a new filter and make sure its in right. When I looked at the drip pan it was dry. I put warm water down the hose and it came through. I hope it works. I now have to change the floor by the frig

So would it also technically work to unplug and let the whole fridge thaw out and then moving the fridge around a bit to move the ice/water build up? I don’t feel as comfortable disassembling my freezer like you
Yes, you can unplug and leave it open about 24 hours to slowly melt all the ice. You just have to keep your food cold somewhere while you wait. Take that rubber boot off or it will freeze up again!
Great video collection, recommend adding model and make of items you fix, will drive more traffic. Have you had experience with leaky water filters? I've replaced my LMXS30776S/00 with a LG ADQ73613401. I twist and fully lock in place, complete reinstall and I'm getting leakage. The exact same filter before did not have issue. Now at first I didn't turn off the water , but then I did and in both situations.. leaking persisted. Any tips?
Those appear to have two black rubber O-rings. One of them probably has a small defect in it that is allowing water to sneak by. I would pull the O-rings off the old filter if you still have it, or return the filter as defective and get a different one
@@HowToLou thank you. I ended up measuring old vs. New, the new ones were 1 mm shorter at the tip with 7mm vs. 8mm for the installed one. I also got in contact with LG supplier and there was a new model for the filter.
Yes, that can work, if you have somewhere else to keep your food. Plan for 48 hours, just to be safe. Keep the fridge door open, and ideally blow a little fan in there to keep warm air moving in. A space heater might get too hot and melt plastic.
Just did this because our fridge part wasn’t working . It’s all back and running again but the freezer is still leaking water and refreezing it in the bottom . So here I go again . Id like to know what causes it . Someone told me we open it to much ?
What if its not ice that formed at the bottom? Its just water coming from the freezer to the bottom pooling under the crisper drawers and onto the floor?
ours kept leaking too. today I took the door off and racks and turned it off and put a header inside of it and it froze all the ice and unclogged the drain hole. took about 2-3 hrs cuz I wanted to make sure all the water drained down the hole completely
Great video! I watched over the weekend, followed your instructions after breaking ice and withdrawing it along with using the blowdryer to melt all ice in the drain. However, 4 days later the puddle again only in front of the freezer door. Any advice?
Hmm. There are only two ways you can get a fridge water leak. If you have a water line for ice or water, turn it off for a week and see if that is the cause. If so, you will have to chase down the exact source of the leak and repair it. If its not that, then your defrost water froze up again in the drain. This seems unlikely so soon. Are you sure you got it completely ice free and running? Take that rubber boot off the bottom of the drain, in back of fridge. That allows a little warm air to flow up the drain, so it won’t freeze. Mine has been fine ever since I published this video.
Actually, Lou, there is a little metal tab/piece of metal, that clamps onto the radiator/condenser that frees up that hole, when the warm water passes through the tubes it heats up the metal just enough to make sure it flows correctly and down the tube, you have to do all what you did just now, but attach the piece of metal that LG will send you or even Maytag, or any Fridge supplier, even home dept has it as well, then attach it with it pointing going into the hole and you are set. Only reason why I know this is because Mine did it on day 1 froze immediately, and i went through 3 fridges all under warranty, and the LG guy who came out finally just added a 'tab' that defrosts the ice buildup in there, and Poof haven't had it happen in 4 years. Keeps your fridge efficient, and keep that Rubber plug on that stops the bugs from going up the tube and then dying on the way up. It actually looks like an Upside down Christmas tree made of metal. Just fyi, mine did anyways.
HowToLou NP, Yeh, you would think this, but oddly what they said "it doesn't always happen it is a about only ~10% of systems that actually this happens to, it all depends on where you live and how much you are opening and closing your system" roughly said. Frankly out of the factory they could have just installed the tab and be done with it. A tab that costs from what size of it, less than 25c to make and less time to install as a preventive measure. So they are banking on it not happening as much around the world on ~90% of the stock they have. Frankly it is a business choice, as it doesn't cause fires or recalls for the aspect of safety, they just wont do it, as it can be fixed onsite. SMH I think it is horrible myself. Oh and they wont tell you this till you have had the Fridge replaced 3 fridges cause of this, and they obviously got tired of it.
If you were talking about the one inside the refrigerator, it’s the same issue as mine. If you’re talking about the one under the refrigerator, there is a fan back there that should continuously dry that thing out. I bet you have a bad fan
@@HowToLou it's the outside one. The fans working well. Maybe it's the extreme fluctuation in temperatures and humidity here in Queensland. I do have a 1 to 2mm open rubber seal along the top of the refrigerator door. Thanks for your help
I would consider drilling a 1/4 inch hole in the floor and running a drain line out of the fridge and down into a crawlspace or plumbing drain or outside.
Unfortunately this is just a temporary solution... Just because it will happen again after some time. I had the same problem with my LG 594 fridge/freezer, after 4 years of using it, started leaking water from freezer bottom on the floor. The cause was the drain hole was full of ice which blocked the drainage tube. De-iced and all went well for another 2 months then again leakage. Same issue, ice blocked water drain outlet. This time tried to add a small improvement to the resistor bar doing the defrosting. I added a small piece of metal attached to the resistor bar and made it stay close to the drain hole. The idea is to bring the heat from resistor a bit closer to the drain hole so it will not be blocked by ice again. Will see how it works in time. So far, one month after the improvement, no leakage but it is too soon to say it's definitely fixed.

Yes, it sounds like you have ice that is blocking your drain, and restricting cold air flow from freezer down to fridge.

I have a beko simple fridge with the freezer below. Had the same problem, followed your advice on the bottom deep freezer drain was clogged. Openned up an removed the ice. Now the hair dryer approach is long. I took a glass of hot water pourred in the tray and the glass dissolved in seconds. Drain is now clear. How long will it stay like that who knows. In my case I topped higher a little the freezing temp. Maybe that way it will not freeze so string again. Thanks for the vid
I suppose if you have the time you could also just unplug the refrigerator if there is nothing in it and let it defrost, then when you plug it back in not turn the cold up to max. I have a double-door refrigerator doing this at an AirBnB for quite some time.
Yes, if you don’t have food to keep cold, that works just fine. I needed it done fast, so I could get food back in.

No. There are drawers with room for ventilation around them. Ever since i removed that rubber flap at the bottom, i have never had the problem again, no matter how much we stuff in there.

Could this be more of an issue of setting the freezer temp too cold so the water evaporating freezes and blocks the drain with ice. I wonder if you turned down the freezer temp so it dose not cool for so long would fix the issue

from an appliance tech, please dont use a hair dryer to melt the ice by the evaporator. i cant count the damaged ive seen to the plastic molding that breaks the seal, now water/ice will get into the insulation water logging it. let it defrost slowly and pour hot water down the drain to clean it out. the duck bill you are removing on the drain spout in back is needed to keep the moisture out, just clean it up good. otherwise nicely done sir.
I agree you need to be careful with a hair dryer. Hot water is a good alternative. I don’t agree on the duck bill. While I understand it will let humid air in, more importantly, it lets warm air in, and keeps the drain pipe ice-free. I am sure this is not what LG recommends, but if they had it designed correctly, this video would not be getting 600 views per day. With the duck bill off, I have not had a problem since I published this video, over a year ago.

I'm having this leaking fridge issue. If my problem is ice clogging the drain, would I be able to simply empty the fridge, unplug it, and leave it open for a day, to flaw it all out?
Yes, maybe 2 days. You just must have another place to keep all your food.

That would defrost the ice excess but one common reason for this issue ir dirt clogging the drain tube, so in that case you should be checking it as well and make sure it is free, otherwise the issue will return in 4 or 5 days.

Yes, if you have a place to keep your food for 2 days, it will eventually melt by itself.

No, the refrigerator defrosts itself once a day and should drain out, but can’t
I just did the ice cleaning but I will also get a new filter and make sure its in right. When I looked at the drip pan it was dry. I put warm water down the hose and it came through. I hope it works. I now have to change the floor by the frig

Thats does not sound like the same thing. My only guess is your door water dispenser is leaking, if you have one.

So would it also technically work to unplug and let the whole fridge thaw out and then moving the fridge around a bit to move the ice/water build up? I don’t feel as comfortable disassembling my freezer like you
Yes, you can unplug and leave it open about 24 hours to slowly melt all the ice. You just have to keep your food cold somewhere while you wait. Take that rubber boot off or it will freeze up again!

Have you had experience with leaky water filters?
I've replaced my LMXS30776S/00 with a LG ADQ73613401. I twist and fully lock in place, complete reinstall and I'm getting leakage. The exact same filter before did not have issue.
Now at first I didn't turn off the water , but then I did and in both situations.. leaking persisted. Any tips?
Those appear to have two black rubber O-rings. One of them probably has a small defect in it that is allowing water to sneak by. I would pull the O-rings off the old filter if you still have it, or return the filter as defective and get a different one
@@HowToLou thank you. I ended up measuring old vs. New, the new ones were 1 mm shorter at the tip with 7mm vs. 8mm for the installed one. I also got in contact with LG supplier and there was a new model for the filter.

Yes, that can work, if you have somewhere else to keep your food. Plan for 48 hours, just to be safe. Keep the fridge door open, and ideally blow a little fan in there to keep warm air moving in. A space heater might get too hot and melt plastic.
Just did this because our fridge part wasn’t working . It’s all back and running again but the freezer is still leaking water and refreezing it in the bottom . So here I go again . Id like to know what causes it . Someone told me we open it to much ?
Has worked for me in the past, facing same issue again after 2 years, will try to leave it off for 24 hours, hopefully it will be back to normal.

What if its not ice that formed at the bottom? Its just water coming from the freezer to the bottom pooling under the crisper drawers and onto the floor?
You still have a plugged drain. You may not have ice on the bottom, but you probably still have ice in the drain.
what if i shut off my fridge will it melt the ice unclogging the drain line?
Yes, if you have somewhere else to keep your food for 8 hours or so, unplug and open your fridge and put a box fan blowing in to speed the melt
ours kept leaking too. today I took the door off and racks and turned it off and put a header inside of it and it froze all the ice and unclogged the drain hole. took about 2-3 hrs cuz I wanted to make sure all the water drained down the hole completely

Great video! I watched over the weekend, followed your instructions after breaking ice and withdrawing it along with using the blowdryer to melt all ice in the drain. However, 4 days later the puddle again only in front of the freezer door. Any advice?
Hmm. There are only two ways you can get a fridge water leak. If you have a water line for ice or water, turn it off for a week and see if that is the cause. If so, you will have to chase down the exact source of the leak and repair it.
If its not that, then your defrost water froze up again in the drain. This seems unlikely so soon. Are you sure you got it completely ice free and running? Take that rubber boot off the bottom of the drain, in back of fridge. That allows a little warm air to flow up the drain, so it won’t freeze. Mine has been fine ever since I published this video.

Absolutely, IF you have a place to keep your frozen food for 2 days. Make sure to remove that rubber boot, or it will happen again.
I live in Michigan. It was below 40 degrees the other day so I put all my things from the fridge to my garage.

Actually, Lou, there is a little metal tab/piece of metal, that clamps onto the radiator/condenser that frees up that hole, when the warm water passes through the tubes it heats up the metal just enough to make sure it flows correctly and down the tube, you have to do all what you did just now, but attach the piece of metal that LG will send you or even Maytag, or any Fridge supplier, even home dept has it as well, then attach it with it pointing going into the hole and you are set. Only reason why I know this is because Mine did it on day 1 froze immediately, and i went through 3 fridges all under warranty, and the LG guy who came out finally just added a 'tab' that defrosts the ice buildup in there, and Poof haven't had it happen in 4 years. Keeps your fridge efficient, and keep that Rubber plug on that stops the bugs from going up the tube and then dying on the way up. It actually looks like an Upside down Christmas tree made of metal. Just fyi, mine did anyways.

HowToLou NP, Yeh, you would think this, but oddly what they said "it doesn't always happen it is a about only ~10% of systems that actually this happens to, it all depends on where you live and how much you are opening and closing your system" roughly said. Frankly out of the factory they could have just installed the tab and be done with it. A tab that costs from what size of it, less than 25c to make and less time to install as a preventive measure. So they are banking on it not happening as much around the world on ~90% of the stock they have. Frankly it is a business choice, as it doesn't cause fires or recalls for the aspect of safety, they just wont do it, as it can be fixed onsite. SMH I think it is horrible myself. Oh and they wont tell you this till you have had the Fridge replaced 3 fridges cause of this, and they obviously got tired of it.

You can try. The main issue is that you will get very little air flow (heat) into a blocked tube.

If you were talking about the one inside the refrigerator, it’s the same issue as mine. If you’re talking about the one under the refrigerator, there is a fan back there that should continuously dry that thing out. I bet you have a bad fan
@@HowToLou it's the outside one. The fans working well. Maybe it's the extreme fluctuation in temperatures and humidity here in Queensland. I do have a 1 to 2mm open rubber seal along the top of the refrigerator door. Thanks for your help
I would consider drilling a 1/4 inch hole in the floor and running a drain line out of the fridge and down into a crawlspace or plumbing drain or outside.

Unfortunately this is just a temporary solution... Just because it will happen again after some time. I had the same problem with my LG 594 fridge/freezer, after 4 years of using it, started leaking water from freezer bottom on the floor. The cause was the drain hole was full of ice which blocked the drainage tube. De-iced and all went well for another 2 months then again leakage. Same issue, ice blocked water drain outlet. This time tried to add a small improvement to the resistor bar doing the defrosting. I added a small piece of metal attached to the resistor bar and made it stay close to the drain hole. The idea is to bring the heat from resistor a bit closer to the drain hole so it will not be blocked by ice again. Will see how it works in time. So far, one month after the improvement, no leakage but it is too soon to say it's definitely fixed.
Taking the rubber flap off the bottom solved my problem permanently. It never froze up again.
Dec 2022 now and the last fix (as described in my above comment) still working. No leakage yet.
