I cant tell you how much you just helped me. My mom whos 90years old and on a fixed income, had this problem.Took me 10 mins to fix after i watched your video. Thank you so much.I will pass this good deed on .Mitch
Glad to hear that you fixed it yourself, and thanks for watching!
Just curious, was it a clogged drain tube, or you fixed it with a plastic card?
@@Your-Self it was a clog at the end of the the tube.Years of gunk and dirt. Cleaned it with the garden hose.ThNks again
You can buy everything except the experiences. However, with a small modification the problem was solved, excellent video showing your professionalism and experiences, many thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Our fridge is a different model but the same principle applies. On ours it was totally solid and all blocked with an inch of ice, we ended up just emptying the entire fridge, cramming everything into the second fridge for the night, unplugging the fridge for the night, and letting it all thaw. Then on the inside of the fridge by the drainage hole we found it was plugged with gunk and debris. Cleaned everything real nice and should be good now! Thanks for the upload, it helped me know what to look for.
Glad I was helpful, and thanks for watching!
Omg thank you so much !!! The card thing worked no more leaks!! No more puddles in my floor 😁 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Glad it worked for you as well, and thanks for watching!
Question. Did your refrigerator smell before you fixed it?!!?
Putting the piece of plastic in was a stroke of genius! This is my project for today. Wish me luck!
Plus, you didn't waste your time in the beginning because that alone may have helped someone else!
Good luck with your project, and thanks for the comment!
I like your down to earth way of explaining your problem solving thought process.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@Your-Self ditto thanks so much
I DEFINITELY LIKED IT WHEN YOU STATED THAT YOU WERE DOING THINGS WRONG AND DECIDED TO READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL.....SORRY FOR THE ALL CAPS....MY CAPS LOCK KEY IS BEING CLEANED......SEEING AS HOW NOBODY WANTS TO BE WRONG.....YOUR ADVICE WAS WELL WORTH IT....THANKS
Thanks for watching!
You are Amazing!!! My husband is not handy. I was dreading taking this thing apart looking for a clog. I saw your video and decided to try the easy solution first. Grabbed an old plastic rewards card and voila!!! It worked!!! You, sir, are the bomb!! Thank you.
LOL, great idea to start with the "card trick," and if that doesn't work, look for a clog. Thanks for watching and commenting!
My husband is the least handy man in the world, his solution- let’s just buy a new fridge. This vid just saved me tons of money!
Great video! After chasing my leak for a year and a half, wiping the water build up every couple of days, the card trick was the fix that worked! I used an old hotel key and it was done! It's been a week now, and not one drop of water! Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing!
Do you have to remove the control panel to put the card in?
Yes I did. Very simple to take off and reinstall :)@@MajorCulturalDivide
I found your video after trying to unclog the hole from the freezer drip pan. Thanks so much for sharing your experience & knowledge!! I feel more confident trying to investigate this a little further with your explanation & tutorial💪🏻🙏🏻👌🏻
Wonderful!
Thanks for this great step by step video. Found my issue in the upper panel drain as you had described. Very nice to avoid a service call for something like that!
Glad it helped, and thanks for watching!
Wow! You can detect and fix design problems,
I have so many emotions now but no words to express them.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
i would like to say thanks, for the great explanation I just fixed my leaking water inside under crisper vegetable drawers. thanks again
Great job, and thanks for watching!
Came for the how-to on fridge leaks, stayed for the chill.
Thanks for watching!
Great vid! My tray was frozen solid... letting it thaw now and that should do the trick . I must have a version after this one because it has a drip guide built in.
Thanks for watching!
Pure genius. I've been having this problem for years. Simple, effective solution.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you!
I sure would NOT have replaced my fridge, nor hired someone at $150 to come do that task.
I used string trimmer string from walmart as my wire to clear out the line. When done…. I taped the 7’ piece of string trimmer string (in a ziplock bag, to the back side if my fridge for the next time).
TOTAL COST OF DO IT YOUR SELF:--$5.00(string trimmer string and 1 hour of my time)
ALTERNATIVELY:
New Fridge= $2,000.00
Appliance service guy= $250+
Good job, and thanks for watching!
I have been trying to fix this problem for months and it was not until I saw your video that I found the real problem. The outlet at the back of the fridge inside was clogged up. After cleaning the little drain tray and flushing the outlet, it seems to have solved the problem. Thanks for the helpful video.
Glad you found the video helpful, and thanks for watching!
Wow, excellent camera work and explanation. Thank you very much YourSelf.
Glad you liked it, and thanks for watching!
Read the manual last...just like I do. Great video using a discarded plastic card...ingenious.
Glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for watching!
Greatl video thank you! It is as if all refrigerators are made to fail like this. If only there was a brand that made refrigerators that don't get these issues.
Thanks for watching!
I have an old Admiral Brand fridge and I just assumed that it was breaking down. Now I know I can fix it as soon as I find a socket that actually fits in to take some of the parts off as my full psych it said apparently doesn’t have one that fits it. Thank you so much.
Good luck with your fridge, and thanks for watching!
That was some solid, real, help. Than you for the video.

Very informative. I can now fix the problem of water leaking on the floor from the freezer

Outstanding tutorial! Concise and to the point! Covers it all. You went beyond what most people would do in order to locate the problem! Thank you!

Thank you well done. I have been asked to fix these before, and know I know.
Glad to help

Wonderful camera work.

Great great great!! I have the exact same model, you saved me a technician visit :-) clear explanations, great camera work :-) BTW I had a different problem, but good to know about the credit card trick!
Glad you found it helpful, and thanks for watching!
What was your problem?
Excellent video but how can you tell when the defrost cycle starts?
The defrost usually happens every 8-10 hours. The compressor and fans will stop, and you may be able to hear sizzling sounds of water dripping on the hot defrost heater. You can also start the defrost manually on a basic refrigerator like this... ruclips.net/video/PMzHrsNyeOA/видео.html
Thank you!!! I was able to fix this myself!!
Good to hear it!
thanks

Thanks for this video, exactly my problem.
Glad you fixed it yourself! Was it a clog on the bottom, or you used a plastic card like me?

I’ve heard that defrost sound before. My fridge makes that noise.
outstanding
Can this be the problem with groceries expiring too soon before expiration date
Thank you bro! 👍
Thanks for watching!
Sir i checked the clogs in the drain pipe and pour water in it freely drained into the basin but the water remains leaked outside the freezer... Problem even persists
Mine is doing this on a refrigerator that does NOT have a freezer. Strange.
What type of screwdriver do you need to remove the panel
I used a regular Phillips-head screwdriver, but your screws could be different.
If you don't see any crews at all, they might be covered by rubber/plastic plugs which you can pill off.
Heyo, I’m having a similar issue with my fridge as well. But I’m unable to figure a solution like how you did in the last few minutes of the video. My fridge model is samsung ff c 394l rt39k5458sl real ssl.
Would be ever grateful if you share your view. Thank you.
Can i use hot water to help melt away the ice build up
You can use warm/hot water to melt the ice (unplug your refrigerator first) and make sure all that defrost water drains well through the tube on the back.
Thank you so much :)
Thanks for watching!
Interesting....did this happen when brand new? Or several years down the line like most refrigerators? If that's the case, why didn't it leak when new.
That fridge is really old. So I guess after awhile some hard water deposits accumulated on the lining, and that's what catches some of the water. Still a bad design, a little cut-off rise would've prevented the problem.
the actual problem is a rusted bracket that holds the defroster heating element. the card trick is not actually fixing the problem, but a bandage. this explains why the fridge doesn't leak when new, it takes a few years for the bracket to rust then break
Wouldn't a "design problem" be apparent when the fridge was new? I'm guessing that this problem developed when the fridge was older, as it did for my fridge. So it seems that your "fix" is really a "band aid" and did not actually find the root cause. Still, a band aid is OK if it really stops the problem.
Great
Thanks for watching!
I actually disagree with you. I had the same problem and believed it to be a manufacturer defect in the design that causes the leak, but the true problem is a rusted bracket that holds the defroster element.
After removing the rear panel from inside the freezer I found that the heating element bracket had rusted and the heating element had moved from its intended location. This causes the water from the auto defrost cycle to drip off the heating element and away from the catch, it then drips into the fridge.
Your solution only puts a bandage on the problem and doesn't actually fix the source of the issue. Fixing the source of the problem also helps the defrost cycle be more efficient as well.
I used some wire to attach the heating element back to the correct location and it fixed the problem. No more water in the bottom of the fridge and increases defrost efficiency.
Would you be able to check and see if your fridge has the same issue as mine to confirm the actual problem?
It sounds like you had a different underlying issue.
My brackets are slightly rusted but still in a good shape. And I can see how a misaligned defrost element would redirect the water away from the catch. So I'm glad you fixed it.
I have bought Haier Refrigerator but I am extremely worried dur to extreme moisture and water droplets inside the refrigerator Cabin. These droplets are droping from glass shelfs. Please help me. I will be gratful.
First, try to figure out if the water is dripping from the freezer during the defrost cycle, or the fridge compartment is kind of "sweating" and the water droplets are everywhere. If it's sweating, the door maybe not closing properly and leaking air into the fridge. Look at the door rubber seal, it should be tightly and evenly closing against the fridge.
Thank you gud video

Thank you. I did through instructions. I have one question for you. I want show you by photo but how i send you.
no one with at LEAST half a brain working would post their email on the internet and especially YT. smh
make video on how to come water into drip water in freez
What size is that wire?
Wow thanks :)

No no . Plastic card not right salotion . You up side your fridge from front side and down ftom back side . Very very easy just littal bit out your frige tepper . Door side some up.
Darul Huda do you mean, tip the fridge back toward the wall so water drains properly, by turning the screws for the front feet to make them taller or wedging something under the front of the fridge?
@@terredee - your translation may be the answer.... I was just going to scroll past.
Better watch your fingers as THAT door is going to close supper fast. : /
@Turquoise yes after trying few different ways over the years, this is the only thing fixed my particular problem of water leak as well. I've raised the front screws (maximum) as much as I could then put a spare ceramic floor tile underneath each leg to give an extra lift/tilt and then adjust both legs so that the fridge is stable. After I have done this, I have not had this issue for few weeks!
Like @isitmondayet said, the door could shut itself little faster so if you have young children then this may not be an appropriate solution. But for me this is not a safety issue. My fridge is fairly old (Whirlpool-wrn38rwg6) but runs fine so I am happy this this problem is fixed for now.
Note: for me the water leak only happens during summer when the weather is hot and perfectly fine during winter.
Thank you @Darul Huda for your great suggestion :-)
I can't get find the hole inside the drain I'm going crazy right now
In your model, the drain hole is probably inside the freezer under the evaporator coils.
I need a plastic thingy like that lol
. Any ideas
An old driver's license, ID card, or a credit card should work.

Glad you fixed the refrigerator yourself, and thanks for watching!
Wish me luck..mine has a water dispenser system. However im not getting any water out of it. The water is coming out from the fridge every time I try and get it out of the dispenser.

Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this tutorial the appliance shop told me it needed new door gaskets, $250 later the problem still existed. Thanks to Covid-19 we were unable to get a new one so I came to RUclips found you and did exactly what you showed me with help from my wife and now we’re $1,978.57 richer for having not bought a new one. The drain hole in the upper pan and the trap in the clear tub at the bottom we’re plugged we cleaned both out all the way to the lower pan and added a piece of plastic like you suggested to direct the water into the little catch pan. Once again we send you a heart felt thank you!
Great to hear it, and thanks for watching!
Not really 2k richer...you actually saved that money, not gained it.
Dude !!! Thank you been having this issue with my fridge for months, gonna take it apart in the next couple of days to check it out. My unit is a Frigidaire but has the same issues.
Thanks for the info !!!
Good luck with your project, and thanks for watching!
Just bought a new fridge. My Frigidaire was doing the same thing
Thanks...ill try t it. I've been putting paper towels down around the bottom of the crisper so for a couple weeks now to sop up the water. Hope this works!
Good luck with your project, and thanks for watching!
Omg me too...PITA. ..and such a mess...TY SO MUCH
Gracias. .Funciono.!!!. Llegue a pensar que tendria que comprar nevera nueva..
Perfect! Water has a very high surface tension and wants to stay together in droplets. It can be seen by pouring a little water on the driveway from a drinking glass. It heads up with rounded edges. If you pour vinegar or rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl) it quickly spreads out on the surface. Adding the plastic card, gives it a hard edge to drip from. Look under your windows outside on the stoop, and they have a 1/4” cut near the edge. This keeps the water from traveling up toward. This is the drip edge. This is a great video.

Nicely done, thank you!
It must feel good when an ordinary non-technical man can improve of design. More power to you sir.
Feels good to improve this fridge instead of throwing it into the garbage field.
Thanks for the comment.

Thankyou so much for this I watched your video and that's exactly what problem I'm having with my fridge. Thankyou Sir for taking the time to share this 🙏🏻✌️
Glad it helped, and thanks for watching!
thanks very much for this video. I have the same model and your video helped me disassemble the fridge panel and clean the drainage hose. Do you know if there is a safety switch that triggers a shut-off of the defrost when that hose is clogged?
Glad it helped!
Regarding the Safety Switch, there is just one for the defrost heater if it gets too hot... but nothing for the water overflow like in dishwashers.
Sir you are amazing... Thank you so much for this video i am gonna treat my refrigerator leakage problem with this trick. Thank you so much😌😌

Thank You! This has been driving me nuts for months. Cleaned the drain line twice but the credit card trick fixed it.
Yep, I was surprised as well that the water continued to leak after drain pipe cleaning.
This is the way to solve problems. Use a mirror and search someone who has done it before.

would have been cool to talk about the steps of getting the control panel off
The control panel is held by 4-5 screws. If you don't see any screws, they may be hidden under plastic caps that you can easily remove.
