EASY FIX FOR ICEMAKER THAT FAILS. Over a period of 20+ years, I have had two icemakers fail, i.e. they would no longer eject ice, although it would still freeze and thaw the ice as designed. I was tempted to buy a third icemaker or circuit board, but after taking a close look at the board, I detected that there was a broken solder joint on the board at the transformer. I re-flowed all 7 pins on the transformer and it now appears to be working correctly. I haven't "fixed" the second ice maker, but I'm betting that it suffers the same problem as the first one. Normally it is pretty easy to spot a failed solder joint, but these, which operate in a zero degree environment do not show the typical signs of a broken solder joint, which is so easy to spot in equipment that operates in an room temperature environment. Of course, this it not the only thing that can fail, but if the paddle and spring are properly installed, this is worth a look.
I have had a few, but not necessarily failure of the components, but of the coating. If the coating is good, many times I can get the motor going if It was stuck . On some whirlpools the solder joints would crack and those were easily fixed. Appreciate your input
Everything these days has weak or cold solder joints. I fixed my furnace by resoldering some cold solder joints around the molex connector. Also fixed a bad joint on a relay in my dryer that wouldn't stay running. Got several more years out of each of those. Just cheap manufacturing.
So maybe, but try this first. If you are getting water to the Icemaker and it is not harvesting, it might be that the Icemaker has too much water because of you re setting it more than one. Or you might have a bad valve that is allowing water into the ice maker. So empty it and start over. Also examine the mold of the unit for peeling. To check the valve, you can watch it for 1-2 days if it bad you will see excess water slowly coming out from the Icemake or Icemaker too full
i have the same fridge and ice maker. GE sent me a new icemaker, and a filter byspass because i have an RO system that supplies the ref. I did your test mode multiple times and still no water. could it be a bad solenoid at the water supply on the back of the fridge?
You might need to wait until the ice maker gets cold enough. Hopefully you have enough water pressure to open the valve. How long has it been that you installed it? Also make sure you fully connect the ice maker connection. They can fall out. There is a rubber seal so push hard to fully connect. Keep me posted. Thanks for watching
I recently had a power outage and now my ice maker is t bringing in water as shown. I have mashed the paddle for 4 cycles and Erik no water. If my filter needs replacing will this keep my water from coming to ice maker?
The little plastic switch has to be to the left to be on because that allows the paddle to be out which allows the ice to be made if it's working correctly
@@andysnyder4603 I don’t think I understand what you’re saying. Are you asking or telling me? On GE ice maker, there are different switches. Some you press a switch and a green light comes on. The other one uses a switch you slide to the right or left.
Once you have done the initial step and it starts to move you or not moving, you can push the tines . The motor actually moves it. So pushing it can help the motor to get rolling
You have a model number? If you can check the ice maker by looking into it. Do you see anything? Do you see ice? Or is it empty? If empty try unplugging the ice maker for a minute. Let me know how it goes
My refrigerator and freezer is not working. I just woke up and went in my kitchen and everything in my freezer is thawed out. Ice is melted everything.

Is the paddle suppose to move when the tines move? And its under the ice maker that means its not gonna make any ice?
Yes it moves as it moves. Then lets water in . You can tap the Icemaker motor or just use your hand and help it along. Keep me posted
My icemaker makes ice after the reset but then the green light flashes with ice made. Water works but I’m thinking it’s a heater issue. Any advice?

OK. is the "ON" position of the ice maker switch to the right or the left?
The Icemaker has to be turned on. The switch must be on

Where are you pushing to help motor?

did you replace your water filter, it must be the original the Ge XWFE not the generic ones
The issue is not water, not sure why you are asking that. The ice maker was stuck as in the gears.
