- Here's another low-budget option from Yongnuo - quite an interesting one, actually, as it promises to be a little sharper than previous models. It's for Sony E-mount cameras only, and it only offers a cropped (APS-C) image.

For that price I'm genuinely pretty impressed. You can get some pretty decent portraits from this thing for not a whole lot of money

Not bad at all. They have a firmware update option so they may iron out the issues in video and maybe even speed up general performance in the future. Very impressed with this one.

Got my Revuenon 50mm f/1.8 0.33m for $20 on a6000 and it's amazing. Manual though, and tbh oftentimes I'd rather just had auto focus than miss focus on like 10 photos in a row.
Eagerly waiting for 85mm e mount from yongnuo.

Personally, I have the 50mm FE lens, and apart from the AF motor, the lens performs exceedingly well on my a6500. This does show however that 3rd party manufacturers are catching up though!
Yes, i hate that motor noise. Also the poor performance for videos..

EU Domain for sale, USA firmware subdomain 404, CN Domain looks like from the 90ies, no support section at all.
I would not buy a case from a company that has that effort for "Detail". You are better of with the 50 mm from Sony or way better with the one from Sigma. Even if way more pricy
How does it compare too the Sony FE 50mm ?

Amazing len, can't believe we can buy a 50 1.8 for 100 bucks with fairly good quality nowadays. TBH, nobody can distinguish the photos on the cellphone which taken by sony or this len.
In a normal picture yes. But for potrait photography its not the case. The bokeh even on the latest iPhone sometimes will fail or leave clear spots if the subject has spaces in between
@@Chrismarkbobo hey chrismark, I think that's not his point. He said that, seen with phone, the shot captured with this lens is similar to the one taken with Sony 50mm lens

vs
lumix gx800+ 25mm f/1.7
which would be better ? or maybe some other setup under 400 $?
if you're planning to use your camera as a daily camera. I'd prolly go with the 25mm rather than 50mm.
But for camera, i'd personally go for lumix as it is mirrorless. You can attach any lens to it ; vintage for an example. Also its small if thats a concern for you.

Hi, i just bought this lens for my a5100 but it seems i can't turn on the steadyshots options as it says can't be used for this lens. How did u do it?
the a5100 doesn't have in-body stabilization like the camera he used (its kitlens does though, that's what the OSS on the lens means).
this lens (the yougnou) doesn't have any stabilization on itself either, so you're out of luck.

Christopher is usually very good about his testing, so I'd have to imagine it's the lens having a decentered element.
@@johnbuscher Would be weird if that was the case and he said nothing. He usually mention problems with lenses he tests.

I've been told that I ought to use a prime lens instead of my zoom to improve my photography as it 'focusses' the mind on the image rather than the zoom setting. I'd love to prove the theory.
Best way to start practicing is to get a f.18 lens where majority of kit zoom lens doesn't have. Generally, people would start with 50mm

I think I've never seen a 50mm f1.8 lens which was aps-c only, that's interesting!
Even so, it doesn't seem to be any smaller, lighter or cheaper than the famed 50mm f1.8 by Canon, which is for full frame and has a much better image quality, so that is the second surprise, seeing that Yongnuo made a decent "copy" of that lens for DSLR cameras years ago, which was available for about half the price of this one!

I wish they release a fuji version of this lens.
You'll use it to focus subjects and for the bokeh. So corner sharpness is not that important IMO.

Thank you for reviewing this lens. I saw it on Aliexpress but bit hesitant to buy it due to lack of review. But I also found that there are plenty of 2nd hand Sony 50mm f1.8 oss selling around the same price. So may be I will just go with the Sony for now.

Man pls do more review of this lens in depth.. of AF in video.. theres no one using this lens at my place and then theres no reviewer review this lens... idk why... when i search for this lens your video will pop up on first of the page
How do you clean/open the front lens? Mine, fungus already building up on the front lens.
take it to a reputable camera/lens cleaner. lens cleaning isn't exactly done by the user

Was hoping this would be full frame, the sony 50 f1.8 is pretty bad. It may have been able to compete in terms of quality, but be cheaper.
I've seen this one for as little as £95. It seems like an interesting option.

I'm only sad that it's not a Full frame version, because for now there is no alternative to the very mediocre Sony 50mm.

Yongnuo is still that budget flashlight company in my mind.
Sony Photographers: Orange and Teal, dynamic range, shoots low light, wears Supreme, makes quirky photography tricks and tips on RUclips, red Peak Design strap eyelets, has Zhiyun crane gimbal, and tells everyone how they switched from Canon.

the problem here is Europe is that Sony 50mm f1.8 costs almost the same as Sigma 56mm f1.4 or even closer to 30mm f1.4. and Sony lenses are not good in optics either. Being a Sony user, I guess I would only go for sony's zoom lenses, when it comes to prime lenses - Sigma.
So not really worth it over the Sony 50mm 1.8 OSS, a lot of used Sony 50mm for not much more price.
sigma 56mm f1.4: I'm about to end this man's career.
problem is Sony lenses are nothing good, but autofocus.

This is cheapest but worst lens I ever own. Pre focus can't focus, stabilization is not supported unless you have internal camera stabilization, very often refuse to focus at all.
Also as soon as you don't need aperture lower than 3.5 number even kit Sony lens 18-50 way better in any aspect.
Tested on Sony NEX5 and A5000 APS - C cameras.
well first of all, you have an old body which is why the focus is much more slower. I tried it recently its AF is decent for pictures but bad when shooting in video. But overall its a decent lens for a cheap price. You get what you pay for you know.

Its fine on both of our a6400 and its only as slow as the sigma 30mm
Also yeah ofc it has no IS , most prime doesnt in this price range other than the sub par 35 1.8
I do need to also note that it works the same on 3 of of our zv e10 and an a7ii on crop mode
Your a5000 is probably why it focuses so slow , its a cdaf system
Just stop - virtually no e mount or even mirrorless lens in general is slow , because most of them leverage the pdaf
@@KNAPPAID i have no idea what are you trying to say. I have sony lenses and they work perfect with 5000 body. They fast and precise. So obviosly 5000 body not a problem at all.
