    Using this lens for 4 months now and haven't let me down a bit, great for photography maybe a little softer in certain environment. Highly recommended this lens

    I owned the Yongnou 50mm and it blows me away with it's results. Did a product photography for a client and she got blown away with the after shots, of course. With a little help from Photoshop.

    After finishing the final render, I noticed the difference in sharpness between the Canon and Yongnuo is a bit more than I initially thought. Still, I think the Yongnuo is definitiely a viable lens at its current price 🙂

      This softness compensates for the harshness of digital imagery.
      And, instead of buying "mist" filters, activating "soft effects" here and there, sending money for weird "pocket fog machines"... this is what a video operator must buy, when searching for some softness in his sequences.
      For 50 USD, if it does the job for a few months... perfect ! Then, it shall turn into the second hand kit lens when time comes to sell the camera...
      All in all, this is a rather clever investment !

    I was going to search in amazon for the 100mm lens then I saw this , my 50mm lens was broke so I was looking for a macro lens for videography, I think this would be great for practice 😃💗
    I like your video !

    Hey Josh, your EOS R talking head footage looks really good! Not too contrasty and oversharpened. I can't get mine to look like that! Can I ask what LUT and settings are you using?! 😊

    I really appreciate your budget lens videos. They've been helpful to me on more than one occasion. Now the Yongnuo isn't a lens I need but I'm fascinated with the difference between budget and expensive

    • @JoshWiniarski
      @JoshWiniarski  3 года назад +1

      It's definitely an interesting market, your return on investment can go down pretty quick with lenses if you aren't careful. Some lenses in the $600-$800 range (especially third party ones) can give lenses 2 or 3x as much a run for their money! And likewise, this lens can be pretty competitive and even indistinguishable if the video is compressed or posted on platforms like Instagram or Facebook and viewed on a small phone screen.

      @@JoshWiniarski That's a good point. Ironically as tech gets more advanced and high quality, the everyday viewers are seeing less and less of that quality due to websites struggling to keep up. It's a great thing for us budget photographers/filmographers who can now produce (close to) equally good content visually as the pros. But I feel for the people dropping thousands of dollars on crazy quality gear that's now regularly matched with budget products.

    it is the only prime lens i have.. ive learned the strenght and weakness of this lens. and im love it.
    TIPS: sharpness in 1.8f is base on distance to the subject. thank me later :)

    I have this exact lens and to be honest....I LOVE IT! has a really nice shallow depth of field and I use my Viltrox speed booster with it. Just bought an ND filter (52mm) so I can get shallow depth of field in day light. Great lens.

    I have this lens and think it's a great little photography lens, but the AF noise on my RP make video unusable unless you don't need the sound, or have a boom mic and operator on your vlog team :)

    Hi, sorry for the possibly a stupid question, but is it possible to attach this lense to Canon SX40HS? If yes, then what adapter should I use? What back ring size it has?

    HEY GUYS IF YOU INTO ACTUAL FILM LOOK, THEN YOU FOOTAGE SHOULD NOT BE SUPER SHARP ANYWAY. THIS LENS IS GREAT. IF ANYTHING JUST SHARP IN POST WHILE COLOR GRADING. FILMMAKERS DONT NEED AUTOFOCUS. MASTER MANUAL. THIS LENS IS PERFECT

    Great video , I have a canon 50mm but whenever I record video or try to manually focus it’s very shaky

    • @JoshWiniarski
      @JoshWiniarski  3 года назад

      Yeah shaky footage is always a problem with longer lenses. That's why I usually go for wider lenses than 50mm if I'm shooting handheld (I like to keep it 35mm and under). This is especially helpful on something like a crop sensor camera!

    Can you please recommend me some lenses for my brand new 80d, was thinking about getting a used tamron 17-50 VC, but then maybe I'll get a sigma 17-70 but that one is a variable f2.8-f4.....maybe you have a better option for me (maybe a 24-105/24-70 but that's not too wide on a crop)
    so please help me decide, thanks so much

    • @JoshWiniarski
      @JoshWiniarski  3 года назад

      My 2 favorite lenses for my Canon 80D are the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 ART and the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8! I haven't used the Tamron version but I'd assume it's pretty similar. Those 2 are both AMAZING though!

    Hey josh i am in the market to buy the canon 55-250mm stm lens is it worth buying in 2020

    • @JoshWiniarski
      @JoshWiniarski  3 года назад +1

      If you're looking for a telephoto lens, the 55-250 is still a GREAT value. The only thing to be cautious of would be the fact that it's a DSLR lens, but mirrorless cameras can use it with an adapter no problem so I'd say itll still be very usable for years to come!
