Nurburgring tradition actually suggests the car should not have the sticker, as it never drove on the circuit, but I have personally driven there some 10+ years ago, and I like to break traditions sometimes.

I want to bolt on custom aero, and do a turbo, rollbar etc, but i am scared i will screw up my perfectly clean NB.
Thanks mate. Currently I am happy with what I can fit under the OEM-ish style fenders. A wider wheel would be nice, maybe a 10", but avoiding any type of flares. Just my preference I guess.
Satisfying video, not because of how beastly it became, but by its build. It was done the proper way, with care and attention, that’s the highlight. Btw, some say it’s better to use the 1.6 non-variable timing cam to turbocharge, for reliability. Is it true or a myth?
Thank you Fabio, appreciate that a lot. In my opinion, the 1.8 VVT is the best engine of the NA/NB chassis for most situations, hard to see why people would argue otherwise. Perhaps the 1.6's are good if you want really high boost levels or something unusual.
Hey Powerhauz, sadly as as the RX-8 was in my dad's shed and his needs changed, he has since sold the car. But on the upside it was working better than it had been for a long time, so it's great to have saved another car from the dead.
@@Bbeavis ah mate it is sad that journey has come to a close. There is something satisfying about resurrecting a broken car though. I am also selling my 8 here. Military schedules don't agree with my summer time car plans. Ah well there's always the next car. Cheers mate. That miata is a beast.
@@Bbeavis yes sorry! Here in Sweden we call it top. I mean the head were the cams are. I have a BP5A engine it says on my exhaust manifold cover. I can't find any good instructional video on a head removal.

My car as it stands is N/A and the engine bay tends to run hot. i track it maybe twice a month but plan to turbo and start drifting. what is your opinion on a dual/rear mount radiator setup? If all figured out correctly with the right rad, pump, fans and airflow, is this idea something worth pursuing? The ideas of building a racecar is endless, i wish i never started this money pit of a journey BUT... ive never been happier :D Btw, here to sub with my second account to do my part in growing your channel! you deserve more attention.
Honestly if your car is overheating N/A then you have issues you need to correct before you thing about turbos/drifitng. A standard-ish power MX-5/Miata should not overheat, even on track, when running the factory spec cooling system. You need to correct the issues first. Personally for a track car I believe that simple is best, easier to maintain and easier to identify problems, rear mounted radiators add complexity, you need to decide if its worth it, or is it just for the "cool" factor. In my opinion, a properly ducted quality alloy radiator in the OEM position will suffice. You will need to add a sizable oil cooler also. Good luck!
@@Bbeavis oh wow, a reply, wasn't expecting that, i did have a question then, did you leave a large majority of the engine stock for the build and just change necessary parts such to accommodate for boost and more power? in other words the stock engine was able to handle the extra power output the turbo was producing? im curious as in the future would like ot turbocharge an nb and wondered if it would require a mountain of work.
@@a.ward02 The engine block/head are mostly standard, the pistons were the only real 'must-do' do allow the engine to reliably handle the turbo boost, you can see some detail on the engine in these videos: ruclips.net/video/2_bOIrnKFEs/видео.html ruclips.net/video/Virq_DawW0g/видео.html
@@Bbeavis i shall give them a watch, sounds like abit of a hassle, i knew maybe the pistons would have to be changed for the deeper dish ones to allow for the boost, but wondered what much more, thanks for the help, im liking the content :)
Thanks Christian, some of those subtitles were from the original edits years ago and had been timelapse sped up for this compilation, so it's no perfect, but glad you enjoyed nonetheless.
I've been considering getting into racing and doing this kind of thing. Basically no mechanic experience (I once changed my oil). I decided I'll buy a new Miata in a couple years. Do you think I'd be able to soup up a modern one, or is it hard to do with newer models and all their newfangled electronics? Should I go for an older used model instead for simplicity / price?
I'm 14 about a year ago I picked up my first na miata. Had no mechanical skill whatsoever. Since then I've done all sorts. Full exhaust system, servicing, break changes. Early na and NB Miatas are so easy to work on. If I can do it so can you!
Sounds like your instincts are correct Toxiciron, yes generally the older models are easier to work on, simpler, more aftermarket parts options, and cheaper. Good luck!
Sadly no not in the real world, I have cheated the system and the car doesn't strictly deserve the sticker. But I have been there myself, and I have driven the car virtually in a racing sim around Nurburgring, so I have left the sticker on the rear bumper.
The list is... immeasurably long. Most of the fuel system is upgraded, the ignition coils, MS3 ecu, full 3" exhaust, custom water and oil plumbing for both the turbo and the motor, plus the rest of the car is tweaked and modified for track use. And, full specs/parts of the car are listed here: beavismotorsport.com/cars/NB/

@@TTURBOVOLVO im working on a switch-on supercharger so i can pull up to the line without the whine. You already know im going the sleeper route
hahaha this came up in my recommended, I've been playing with the assetto one. it's awesome!
Hope you enjoy it!
Never seen your youtube channel but I saw your car in the Assetto Corsa subreddit. Nice build!
Hey, thanks! :-)
Awesome build
Thanks!
Great video!
Thanks!
Thank you for inspiring me
Any time!
Great video mate 👍
Thank you :-)
damn dog that's sick. would like to see it get wider
Thanks mate. Currently I am happy with what I can fit under the OEM-ish style fenders. A wider wheel would be nice, maybe a 10", but avoiding any type of flares. Just my preference I guess.
Wow! Now THAT is cool!
Thank you JF.
You’ve got my subscription!
Thanks!
Great result !! 👌🏼⚡️⚡️⚡️
Thank you! Cheers!
What a killer montage man. Any updates on the 8? I hope your rotary journey is going smoothly.
I love Miatas!
Thanks Pro Phil :-)
Verry nice car bro!!!! Love it!
Thanks for watching.
Very few people know how to pull a nice nb off, and you surely did
Thank you Landen that's far too kind of you.
Fantastic build! Could you do a simple step by step video on how to remove the top (for machine work) in the simplest way possible on a nb MX-5
Hey Alex, thanks! By top, do you mean the top of the engine, as in the head?
@@Bbeavis yes sorry! Here in Sweden we call it top. I mean the head were the cams are. I have a BP5A engine it says on my exhaust manifold cover. I can't find any good instructional video on a head removal.
@@axelarkin644 You could have a look at my video from quite a few years ago now, when i originally removed it, its not a perfect instruction/step-by-step, but it may help here: ruclips.net/video/k8KxxakcAEg/видео.html
The ideas of building a racecar is endless, i wish i never started this money pit of a journey BUT... ive never been happier :D
Btw, here to sub with my second account to do my part in growing your channel! you deserve more attention.
Good luck!
ur head isnt ugly
have confidence
love ur car
Thank you. I like pineapple on pizza.
dope build
Thank you.
@@a.ward02
The engine block/head are mostly standard, the pistons were the only real 'must-do' do allow the engine to reliably handle the turbo boost, you can see some detail on the engine in these videos:
ruclips.net/video/2_bOIrnKFEs/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/Virq_DawW0g/видео.html
@@Bbeavis i shall give them a watch, sounds like abit of a hassle, i knew maybe the pistons would have to be changed for the deeper dish ones to allow for the boost, but wondered what much more, thanks for the help, im liking the content :)
I liked the build and the video. Only thing I would recommend is making the subtitles stay a bit longer on the screen to give time to read it.
Thanks Christian, some of those subtitles were from the original edits years ago and had been timelapse sped up for this compilation, so it's no perfect, but glad you enjoyed nonetheless.
Nice work :0
Thank you! Cheers!
good job ! you have a talent :)
Thank you! Cheers!
Good luck!
You actually drove the nurburgring with that? Nice!!
Sadly no not in the real world, I have cheated the system and the car doesn't strictly deserve the sticker. But I have been there myself, and I have driven the car virtually in a racing sim around Nurburgring, so I have left the sticker on the rear bumper.
Bring it down to Mallala and Tailem Bend man! Would love to see it race
Oh yeah I'd love to check out Tailem Bend sometime in the near future... just gotta find room in my schedule in the next few months.
Wow that's amazing! What supporting mods did you install alongside the turbo?
The list is... immeasurably long.
Most of the fuel system is upgraded, the ignition coils, MS3 ecu, full 3" exhaust, custom water and oil plumbing for both the turbo and the motor, plus the rest of the car is tweaked and modified for track use.
And, full specs/parts of the car are listed here:

@@Bbeavis cool! I've been pondering whether or not I should do a project like this of my own, but wasn't sure. Do you have any advice for people like myself wanting to do projects like this?
where did you get that roof, i have a NA Miata and want to switch to a fastback hardtop
It is a Lightyear fastback roof, unfortunately they are no longer manufactured.
@@Bbeavis i have found a fastback made by a different company but its really expensive
I'm wondering about that extra side mirror purpose just curious
If you are referring to the external mirrors - I replaced the OEM ones with smaller/lighter 'formula' style mirrors.
If you are referring to the interior, beside the original rear view mirror is a rear facing reverse camera screen.
@@Bbeavis its the one on the right on top of the driver place
Putting together a road going supercharged mk2 1.8.. can I do this on standard engine set up? Like bolt it on and go? Also I would like to see it at its peak dont know where to start
Sorry mate your question is too vague for me to be able to give you an answer.
I saw you didn’t use a gasket for the turbo and exhaust manifold. Did you have to do any smoothing prep with the kraken down pipe?
Cheers
I have a genuine garrett turbo gaskets between the kraken manifoled, and the turbo, and the downpipe.
What is the roof you bought... and are yiu satisfied with its install, anchoring, and performance... ?
It is a Lightyear Carbon Fibre Fastback. I built the install/anchoring myself. I have videos on it if you are interested: ruclips.net/video/UXb4yIkbR40/видео.html&ab_channel=BEAVISMotorsport
@@Bbeavis Thanks big time for your response and all your well-produced videos. I have been circulating over a dozen links to friends. Believe it or not, your selection process over performance part choices are easily inter-changeable with other cars. Great work.
9:22 you freaked me out right there..🤣🤣😅😅
Lol
Amazing car, wish I'd gone on a speed reading course before watching the vid though lol
Haha sorry some of the small subtitles are from sped up of the original footage, if you want to know more detail about a specific part you saw here, there's vids with all the finer details on my channel.
@@Bbeavis way ahead of you, already subbed and started marathoning your vids 😁
Sweet man!
Thank you Noxa Tom.
This is crazy man! Love the fastback look too.
I want to go down the turbo road. I have an old vvt engine i hope to rebuild/forge and a good idea what i want in prep for FI. But im getting mixed info from Shops, mates, forums etc. as to what i need. Its confusing me more and more and getting pricey with each new part i need haha. So far im at 4.5k for rebuild and 8k for turbo kit
Btw ive never attempted a rebuild of any mechanical part but im doing my research, following Greg Peters, you and my family mechanic for advice
Thank you Ruben, good luck with your own car, I'm sure you will work it out. Lots of conflicting and incorrect information out there to be sure to refer to the professionals when you don't know something. Find a good engine builder who has experience in the VVT engine and talk to them about your needs for the build to ensure they have the experience to do what you want.
Can you please do a video on how you made your door windows?
It isn't too special or hard. I used the original glass as a template to trace onto some lexan. Cut it out with an angle grinder. Then essentially just screwed it to the door.
What an awesome car, ive always wanted to do an MX5 track car, how much has this all cost you? if you dont mind me asking haha i already do the bike on track not sure if its wise to start cars too haha glad youtube reccomended
Thank you Ross. I have a video detailing all the costs to build this car which you can find on the channel here: ruclips.net/video/QKilUgwW6rw/видео.html
huge amount of work, hopefully it was worth the effort.
Well starting to set class lap records which is nice :-)
what kind of wheels are the first set ! those are beautiful looking as well as what brand top?
Varrstoen V1 15x9 (no longer in production)
Avanti Storm S1 15x9
good job, i realy enjoy while watching, but you may prefer minimalist livery design to make it faster, at least by looking :D
Ok thanks very much! :-)
Awsome vid! Well done epic build.
How much dose the car weigh now?
Hey Billy, it's at around 940kg / 2070lbs
Any desire to swap to a sequential? Are you racing in a class that requires H-pattern?
Desire for sequential, yes..... but money to do it, nope. I have no class restrictions, its just what I can fit within my skillset and budget.
Did you do anything to control arm mounting points?
Control arms and the subframes they mount to are all OEM.
What's the music called towards the end
It is from the RUclips free music library, it is titled Heaven and Hell - Jeremy Blake.
Simply Brilliant great viewing, what transmission are you using to get the power down?
Hi Greg, the car still runs the factory 6 speed Mazda trans, so I have the tune limiting torque to a peak of around 350nm (260ft lb) to help with driveline longevity
