Ford F-250 stuck in defrost, problem solved

  • Air conditioning flow control, often fails on higher mile Ford trucks that use electric vacuum pumps that create suction. The suction system not only controls air zone valves, but also 4X4 activation. Typical vacuum leaks, like old lines are often the problem, but there is one last component that everyone participating on automotive help forums fails to mention when troubleshooting this trouble prone system, the electric vacuum solenoid valve.

      Amazing how many of these have failed. I moved along to a Nissan Titan XD pro over 6 years ago, but still miss my F-250. You'll never guess what component fails on the Titan. An electronic air mix valve solenoid. Very similar symptoms, but a totally different design concept. Proof newer isn't always "better". Somewhere between now and air conditioning season, I'll be climbing under the dash and changing at least one of those (also well documented frequent failure) parts out.

    It may have been mentioned previously but the part number is as follows: Ford Motorcraft # 7C3Z-9H465-A Auto Lock Locking Hub Vacuum Control Valve/Solenoid. This part fixed my 07 F350 6.0L 4x4 exactly the way it fixed the issue for the Yankee Paramotor. Thanks Again!

    Thanks for the video, my 2002 f250 has been stuck on defrost for 3 years and the auto 4 wheel drive has never worked since I bought the truck new, I always had to lock the hubs manually. After watching your video I called the ford garage and they quoted me $321 for the solenoid and a new vacuum pump. I got them on line at am autoparts delivered for $91, just put them both on and I now have cold ac coming out the dash vents and the 4wd locks in without having to get out and lock the hubs. Thanks again for posting your video.

    VERY HELPFUL! THANK YOU!
    It's not an EGR valve though it's a pulse vacuum actuator for the four wheel drive that runs off the electric vacuum pump. I was told by multiple mechanics that it would not solve the problem. It did! Thank you again!

    DUDE ! Your the man. I checked all the soft lines and checked the disconnect under hood to defroster, ( mine was working but had to turn placement button to get it out of defrost) All was good, but pump would NOT shut off, been that way for years. Manual 4x4 only. I finally found the disconnect for them next to reservoir, no vacuum. So this module can work on one side and not the other. THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ADVTOURER
    @ADVTOURER 29 дней назад

    @Yankee Paramotor you nailed this. My Vac valve failed on my 2000 F350 7.3.
    Some additional info - This valve is responsible for controlling factory style auto engage 4x4 hubs and the AC vent system. If you have converted the factory hubs to a manual-only style like Mile Marker or Warn lockouts, you do not need this valve to engage your 4x4. When this valve fails, unplug the vacuum connector on the solenoid valve with 2 ports and plug both ports with an appropriate sized bolt. The red vac line is the one responsible for switching the HVAC vents. With this plugged, you will no longer have a vac leak and your AC/Heat vents should now switch.

    I just replaced my vacuum pump to no avail on my 04F350 w/325K miles. It is a performance work truck. I had vacuum going into the 4wd valve but no vacuum on the line out. My conclusion is the valve is bad & will replace tomorrow. I don't mind paying state taxes but I resent the hell out of paying
    $60K for a truck I bought new in 04 for $40K. I have out new heads and rebuilt the upper end @ 250k miles. Put in a livewire tuner & it runs like a champ. Went off road in AZ&UT last two years and tow 5k trailers w/generators and fuel transfer tank! Thanks for the insight! May your day be pleasant and your cab warm/cold as needed!

    Thank you this was the fix for my 2001 F250 4WD v10 - my problem started during the summer when I noticed cruising down the high way the A/C was only coming out the defrost, oddly when I came to a stop I noticed it would go back to the vents. This when on for a while until the winter where now it would only blow out the defrost vent. I found this video most helpful, as all the options were covered. I first looked for the vaccume leak that led me to brittle hoses down to the hubs they were bad, i never even knew I had them, I replaced and like the video said it worked for a bit again but only at standstill when RMPs got high or on the road it would go back to defrost vents, when I replaced the vacuum solenoid it now all works. I got the one on Amazon for 40 bucks, mixed reviews but the OEM is 90. Will see...tried to buy at autozone they tried selling me a door actuator for the vent...and argued with me i was buying the wrong part...left ordered amazon had it next day...working fine...nice and toasty out the vents. Thanks again

    Awesome video straight to the point! I have an issue with it going to defrost only when i activate 4X4 which from what i read is a vaccum leak in the hubs or close by.

      @@YankeeinSC1 My 2000 Super Duty has the 5.4 V8 but no vacuum pump that I can find or hear running. Seems like the vacuum is getting pulled by the intake manifold? I can get the AC blowing out the vents if I jiggle the vacuum lines and power/grounds but it quits working after a few minutes.

    I changed this vac pulse actuator saw some improvement, but still blows Cool air out defrost vents on a hit day. Why does it work less on a very hot day?Also suspect my 4wd does not shift in & our correctly. What's up?

    your video led me to my fix... a/c not cooling properly and defrost defaulted to on... checked vacuum pump..it was ok.... but noticed the pump was running intermittently so I knew there had to be an issue some where..started inspecting vacuum lines that I could easily see... discovered the line that apparently controls the hot water valve going into heater core under the hood next to oil fill was actually about to break. Used a 5 inch piece of my drip line from my garden irrigation system to fix. air comes out of vents at 52 degrees now so I suspect the broken line was allowing hot water into heater. 2007 ford f250 king ranch.

      @YankeeinSC1  8 лет назад

      Awesome! I did not previously know the heater core flow valve was also tied in. I guess a good system schematic might also help, but there are so many that claim to have fixed their system when even dealers couldn't, why spend the money on a manual that may not even offer the fix?
