As an atheist, I approve of your performance here, Travis. Excellent work as usual, but I could not sit through this after a few minutes. I may have to believe in a god after all, because the patience you exhibited here, to walk through basic things like this, requires a -dare I say it- Divine level of patience…a kind of patience that transcends all human understanding and reason. I commented for the algorithm and give you thumbs up to do my part, but I can’t sit through any more of this.
Sounds like you need to lengthen your attention span sir! Want to have as legendary patience as Travis? Try sitting through all videos posted on this channel. (I’ve done this)
@@zachlemon6081 I can’t recall exactly how I first came across him. It may have been seeing him engage Aaron from Apologia I think? I also watch Ostler and Boylan and a few other LDS I think are worth listening to.
I know I say this a lot, but I’m grateful for these videos. They’ve helped me in my studying, listening to the Holy Ghost and equipping me with another perspective. I’m happy I found this channel. I appreciate you, brother.
I think you are doing better at not let them dangle too long on the rope of doubt. It often takes them far too long to realize that your alternative to their blind faith isn't atheism, but rather Mormonism and revelation. It takes them forever (or never) to understand you are offering Mormonism as the out, as they don't yet know what Mormonism is.
I was 10 minutes in and I got in a head on collision yesterday while listening to this. The other vehicle was on the freeway driving into oncoming traffic.
@@missionarydiscussions1286 I'm doing fine, thanks. Not sure about the other driver though. I'll finish this episode today (hoping it's not a bigger wreck than the one I was in 😂)
He seems to have a fragile faith. If one thing is wrong, it is all wrong? That is what creates Atheists who once stood strong as believers. Fear seems to be the central issue with this mindset. He attacks and says you are sounding like an Atheist when we see he has not thought about his position.
Was painful to watch just how ignorant he was of his own ignorance. You were trying to teach him and he was blind and deaf to it and unable to comprehend what level you were teaching him on.
The person Travis is talking to is clearly clueless about what he believes. However, it was very interesting to hear Travis discuss his views on the Bible at length. It’s fascinating that, despite being a Christian/Mormon, Travis is willing to admit that the Bible contains errors and is not inerrant. I’m curious why he still believes the Bible is the word of God, given its many issues. He did mention not throwing the baby out with the bath water but what gives him the confidence to still maintain faith? Is it because he believes the Book of Mormon is inerrant and uses its claims to support the Bible? I’d be interested in understanding this better because when Mormons talk about the Bible, it often sounds similar to what secular critical scholars say.
@@User28870 The Book of Mormon is also not inerrant, which the text specifically states. Why would a text need to be inerrant or infallible in order for it also to be viewed as scripture?
I wondered if it was explained to him that the prophet Joseph Smith did not write the BOM. Does he know the basics of what it really is? I’m hoping the missionaries taught him, but after listening to his ignorance about basically everything, he’s probably been taught that several times over. Something’s just not connecting in his head.
Travis, is the word of God perfect? Why would God intend that His children receive improper instruction or fallible commandments? Scripture, being a compilation of Gods word, does include it. You can make this claim without saying the whole book is fully infallible. I’m also a member.
@@missionarydiscussions1286 Okay. Let me try to be more clear, sorry. By the way, I want to know what you genuinely think about this. I believe in modern revelation and the authority of prophets. I see a perspective that we, as members, should respect and convey in a way that evangelicals can understand, showing that we are aligned on certain core beliefs. Here's what I think… We need to communicate to others that God’s word *is* perfect and *is* infallible. While we believe that man can sometimes interject his own doctrines into scripture, this does not alter the reality that true scripture-true doctrine-is perfect. It wouldn’t be incorrect if a non-member said, ‘The Bible is God’s Word.’ What they are affirming is that God’s truth can be spoken, transmitted, and compiled into the Bible. This understanding isn’t contradictory to what we believe, but rather a foundational truth that we share. Right?
His claim that one prophecy needs to be proven wrong and he'll stop believing in the Bible is stupid. 2 Kings: 3 shows a prophecy where God literally promoses that Isreal will defeat Moab, and then they lose to Moab. Guess the whole Bible is wrong. 🤷♂️
