    This is one of the most iconic performances by a band, ever. Freddie Mercury demonstrated his incredible voice and ability to hold an audience, and the band played impeccably.
    I was lucky enough to have been at Live Aid in 1985, and there is no doubt Queen were the standout performance of the whole day.

    There is a recent interview with Roger Taylor he said that the sound was so bad on stage that they couldnt hear each other. He said it was all done by body language, eye contact and memory. Which makes it even more remarkable.

      Illustrates how professional they were and how tight the band was. They had rehearsed the set to get the timings correct. You can actually see the red light coming on just as they hit the last note of the set. Remarkable!

    Yes I was at LiveAid too and have so many amazing memories of that day, if I remember correctly the tickets were around £14.50 and of course no mobile Phones,I attended many Queen concerts throughout the late 70s, and the 80s, Queen at Knebworth Park 1986 is a special memory too as it was the very last time Freddie performed live, back up bands Status Quo and Big Country, crowds at Knebworth estimated to be around 120,-140,000 people,yes so many awesome memories, great reaction thanks 🙏

      Thanks for the comment. I thought the tickets were £25 but maybe that was with a booking fee. I only ever saw Queen at Live Aid, not sure why as I went to lots of gigs. It was an amazing day.

    Live Aid was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, attended by about 72,000 people, and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, attended by 89,484 people. one-third of the global population tuning into a TV broadcast at the same time. That's what happened on July 13, 1985, when 1.9 billion people watched musicians perform in London and Philadelphia to raise money for famine-stricken Ethiopians.

    FYI, 6 months prior to Live Aid, Queen performed to a crowd of over 250,000 at the Rock in Rio festival in Brazil so performing to 72.000 at Wembley was a walk in the park for them.

      Apologies. There are lots of videos that show the whole of the Queen performance, but I take your point. I'm new to RUclips really so, being honest, I'm not sure how useful/valuable my insights are

  • @willswalkingwest7267
    @willswalkingwest7267 6 дней назад +1

    It's worth noting, taking a close look at the crowds of tens of thousands....it's hard to find obese kids, it's hard to find anyone covered in tattoos and piercings, there certainly were a few but in general it's a different type of person there in the crowds.
    Freddie was the epitome of front men. He had complete and total control of that crowd. And those attending the Philadelphia show were equally mesmerized even though they were watching on a big screen.
    This was truly a once in a lifetime event from the crowds, the bands, the technical aspects, everything.
    Bob Geldof organized the impossible.

    • @BritishDadReacts-ui4jx
      @BritishDadReacts-ui4jx  5 дней назад

      Yeah it was different times then; trends change I guess. Freddie was incredible, as always. Interesting to know that even people in Phily were impacted by the performance. It was a once in a lifetime. There was an attempt to repeat it in the UK many years after but it wasn't quite up to the mark of the original

    Here's something I've always been curious to ask someone who was there. David Bowie was the unfortunate one to have to follow "the greatest live set ever", everyone knew at the moment that Queen had stolen the show. How well did he do, how did the crowd receive his performance?
