QUEEN never broke up ever!!!! His diagnosis was not till 1987. The last album was released 5 years after his death! The whole album but the last verse was Freddie. He sang into a recorder in bed with a keyboard and drum machine. Brian kept writing and Freddie kept singing. It was heart wrenching for the band to put the album out posthumously, but they did. Most bands thought the 20 minute slot format was only worthy of a kind of token effort. Queen set out to really entertain and planned every second in minute detail. Hence they killed it. Deservedly.
You two have no idea what you just watched! That was THE BEST PERFORMANCE BY A FRONT MAN OF ALL TIME!!! That was an historic performance! Bowie came on after Queen and he yelled at Freddy saying, " How the hell am I supposed to follow that?!" That performance was HISTORY!!!
I quote another fan: "Queen only accepted the invitation to perform Live Aid bc the guy that orchestrated this from the Boomtown Rats had listed them as having already accepted playing. They finally accepted, and then backstage before this performance, the band was arguing bc they didn't think they'd be relevant in comparison to all the other more "current" singers from 1985. They thought no one would know/like them at that particular concert since they were popular 10 years prior. Then they came out, played a 21 minute set and stole Live Aid. That was the first time anyone had seen a performer command the audience to that level. When Radio Gaga played and the entire audience did the hand clap motions, it wasn't just the audience in Wembley stadium. This was live broadcasted with another concert in Philadelphia (the biggest concert to date at that time as it was live streamed to a ton of countries and had 2 Live Aid concerts going on at the same time. Matter of fact, side note: Phil Collins played on the Wembley stage and then got on a Concord, flew to Philly and played onstage at Philly for the concert), and the entire audience in Philly did the hand clap motion and could be seen via big screen satellite. There were thousands of people who were doing the hand clap motions between the 2 concerts and everyone (including other artists) were in complete awe of the whole experience. It was overwhelming the amount of people who responded to Queen. Also, when Queen took the stage, that's when massive amounts of donations poured in for the cause. 2 billion people saw the concert all over the globe. Biggest audience ever. This was monumental in music history"
Bravo! Thank you . A true Rocker. Wembley was packed with about 75,000 ( due to lack of workers at the door. lol- it officially holds 72,000. ) the young man is into it, but the girl- not even a reaction? Is that even possible?
I love your history- Queen, turned up their sound without anyone knowing to a level 4- the audience loved them- and Queen got the phones ringing off the hook, raising !.5 million USD in 20 minutes. Bob Geldoff , who organized the Live Aid- it was Brian who finally confirmed it. TY bitcodexx--
I guess that's a bit of bullshit about the backstage talk (maybe they were just joking aroung) they sold millions the The Works the year before, they were an immense group in 85.

not one person bought a ticket to see queen in that whole crowd...the show was sold out before queen was added to the show, and they stole the show lol
One of the best live performances ever. To think they weren't the headliner and this wasn't a Queen audience. Brian May even told Freddie not to do the Day-O crowd interaction because the crowd wouldn't understand it. You can even see Brian May turn his back as Freddie starts to do it.....but like most performances...Freddie had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand.
all four had individual hits as well as those they had as a group. The fact they could all be hit makers made the fact that when they worked together they made magic.
It doesn’t matter how many times I watch this, it still sends shivers down my spine! I heard Bohemian Rhapsody the first time it was ever played! It was Freddie who got the audience, he reached out and gathered them in the palm of his hand, he did it wherever he went, didn’t matter if they were there or watching on film or TV! Oh, and something Freddie would have loved, all radio stations had a Queen CD ready for the news of Freddie’s death, each DJ was told to just put the disc on and press the play button, the DJ on the local commercial station in Liverpool, England, duly put the CD in and pressed the play button, the track that came on was “Another One Bites The Dust”!!!
They had 18 min to do their bits. Queen stole the show. Freddie's Dr told him not to sing as he had a throat infection you sure wouldnt know it. Miss you Freddie
I was 16 when Live Aid happened. It's hard to comprehend just how huge it was when compared to our world today, with instant access to content from all over the world; back then we basically had cable TV. A concert broadcast around the world was just an amazing concept for us.
If you continue listening to Queen, you are not going to want to stop. There never has been a band like theirs. I just attended the Queen Rhapsody Concert (50 years after the band was formed), and although Freddie is long gone, it still rocked the place and we all sang along to everything. Freddie was there as a hologram for part which was wonderful.
An important bit of clarification between what the film showed vs real life: Freddie was NOT diagnosed w HIV until 2 yrs after Live Aid in 1987. And, Live Aid wasn't the band's "swan song", as the film kind of makes it feel: They were actually rejuvenated as-a-group by their awesome performance this day, so decided to do a massive concert tour the following year (1986) playing all giant stadium venues. (During the tour, they were also the FIRST band to play behind the Iron Curtain, in Budapest.) Then, in 1987 (after he received his diagnosis) Freddie pursued a life-long dream of his, to write/sing an operatic performance w soprano Montserrat Caballe, whom he idolized: called Barcelona.
Plus: "The Miracle" in 1989 was a massive success, even though he wasn't able to perform live any longer. "Innuendo" in early 1991 went straight to number 1 as well. So, yeah, Live Aid definitely wasn't the swan song. However, I understand from the filmmaker's perspective that their Live Aid performance fits for the end of the movie. They wanted to leave the audience with that majestic feeling that Queen concerts tend(ed) to leave the audiences with. That they therefore had to push the diagnosis before the Live Aid event is a pity, but it makes sense from a storytelling point of view.
@Ro 2 This is my understanding also and at the time of the Live Aid concert Freddie had a severe throat infection, likely caused by his AIDS and his doctor had advised him not to sing. That's why he missed some notes he normally would have easily grabbed.
Yeah this is why.i.hate that crap movie for all the fictional rubbish which some people will believe as.fact.etc. they had not broken up for years infact they had just finished touring few months before live aid. Freddie did not.have aids.at this point however obviously he most likely had HIV but wasn't aware i belive at.this time. Bloody movie!!!! Grrrr
QUEEN were in a league of their own, no one could compete with them. They were the very definition of "ROCK GODS". They made their mark in the history books and Freddie will live FOREVER!!!!!
ChemicalReactions! - First, they NEVER broke up before Live Aid and just did a massive stadium tour until a couple of months before. That was just for drama. Secondly Freddie wasn't diagnosed with AIDS until 1987 and Live Aid was in 1985. He may have been suffering early symptoms like the sore throat he had at Live Aid. The other stage was in Philadelphia. David Bowie followed them. A lot of BIG names were po'd to have to follow Queen who stole the show at a time when some considered them "has been's". All four had solo projects, not just Freddie. Brian and Roger did solo stuff and John played with other groups. Why is it always ...Brian May, great guitarist? Freddie, great front man. Roger, singing drummer ...BUT....John Deacon is never mentioned. He wrote a lot of their great and biggest selling songs (look it up), was a top rated bassist and was a great dancer (DISCO DEAKY). You talked about tapping your toe. Did you tap it to Brian's guitar solo? Nope. You tap to John's throbbing bass, the backbone of all their songs. Give Deaky some respect. I'm sick of my favorite being ignored. He also was an electrical engineer (Brian wasn't the only one with a degree) who invented the "Deacy" amp which Brian used throughout his career (it had never been duplicated for decades). It allowed him to make the unique vocal and orchestral sounds he did with his guitar.... a major factor in Queen's and Brian's success. Freddie's "arrogance" was his stage persona. People who knew him said he was kind and even a bit shy. I saw them live. They were the best live act I ever saw and I attended a lot of concerts as far back as The Beatles (who were sadly held back by lousy technology in the 60's). Your reaction needs some research.
I totally agree with you. The movie tells another story that has nothing to do with Freddie & can confuse peolpe who are not familiar to the real thing. I have been a Freddie & John fan for the last 40 years & really was disgusted when I saw the movie. Nothing to do with Freddie as a person that was generous & loving.
@@heyjude1920 same for me. His friends Brian & Roger did not make him justice & they say Freddie would be happy.... I wonder what John thinks about the movie. It's a pity we'll never know.
Completely agree Carmem. The movie made Freddie look like a jerk and the troublemaker in the band. Onstage he was confident but offstage he was painfully shy gentle and caring. It's great that younger people are getting to hear Queen's music but I hope they will watch some documentaries to see the real Freddie.
Would you believe, I only knew about Queen two weeks ago and, no, we're not living in the jungle. Now I can't get enough of them and Freddie is my idol. The neighbours hate it when I loudly sing along. R.I.P. Freddie. Gone too soon.
Delighted for you that you discovered Queen. Their music is timeless. There are plenty of videos on YT to keep you endlessly entertained. Wings of Pegasus have produced one of the best reaction videos I’ve seen on this concert. The title is something like “why Queen’s Lice Aid Performance is So Great. I was fortunate to have been at Live Aid , it was an electric long very hot day Queen being the highlight of course, You made me giggle when you said that it wasn't a great hit at first , it was a massive hit , the song became the 1975 UK Christmas number one, holding the top position for nine whole weeks
Amen sister. I'm so jealous you got to see this live. I bet nothing has topped that. These two are not Queen fans bc I have not stopped dancing watching this. RIP Freddie
Now you guys need to react to 'Show must go on' by Queen. Recorded only about a month before Freddie's death. Brian May said that Freddie looked really sick at the time (he was really thin) and he was afraid that Freddie could not do the vocals but Freddie really stepped up and literally did a one take on the vocals. He said that he was going to perform write and record until he couldn't stand up any more and the lyrics of the song really describes how his mentality towards music and art was. He was in my opinion one of the purest form of an artist 😊
Not quite! The song was released as a single in October 1991, a month before his death. The recording sessions for the album, Innuendo, occurred the year before.
Ok, my bad. It was released (As a single that is) 6 weeks before his death and recorded in 1990. I remembered wrong but at least I think everyone can agree that he had gotten very ill when he recorded the song.
Watch some of their dvd concerts. They present 20+ songs over about 2 hours. Freddie had great stamina, all without back up tapes or autotune; just pure talent for all 4 artists.
@@ChemicalReactions He had a stunning vocal range and a beautiful voice and wouldn't mess with anything, including his teeth He had four extra teeth and thought that somehow this affected the way his voice sounded.
To me, this was the greatest moment in rock history. At 52 years old I still get chills when I watch this performance. Do you know of anyone else who could command a crowd of a 100,000 people?
and you were correct about Lady Gaga....After a performance in NYC that Gaga did when she was still at Tisch, which was a musical school in NY, for the performing arts....her friend said to her, you are so Gaga....and that was it...Her name was then Lady Gaga.....RIP Freddie! Legend will never be forgotten!
Plz remember; this was NOT a Queen gig, and still Freddie did this with the audiens!:)) Only a true artis could pull this off, and not to forget the rest of the band
My teens was in the 80'ies. and my first thought back then when I first heard "waiting for the hammer to fall" was NUCKLEARSTRIKE. Yes I was one who grew up "tall and proud in the shadow of the mushroom cloud"
Hi guys I really love your reactions. Since you talked in lenght about Queen and Live Aid after you saw the concert I want to draw your attention to some points😉 1. Queen never broke up, not before Live Aid nor afterwards. They had just completed a huge world tour of the The Works album. They did not tour the US for several reasons. So they were pretty at their game at that point. 2. Freddy was not diagnosed with Aids at the time of Live Aid. He learned about it in 1986 during the Kind Of Magic Tour. The Magic tour was their biggest and last tour, selling out stadiums all over the world. They did not toured the US. 3. Queen were huuuge all over the world throught the 80ies. After The Works album they made 3 more album during Freddys lifetime. All of them sold millions everywhere but not in the US. Their last album Made In Heaven alone sold over 20 million copies worldwide. The Movie Bohemian Rhapsody is quite good, but it states some facts horribly wrong, which is quite annoying when you know the truth. I‘m not a fanboy, I just happend to witness the 80ies as a teenager😀 Nevertheless, great reaction. Thank you.
Kodiak in disbelief That‘s true Bohemian Rhapsody was one of the biggest tunes during the 70ies, and still is😀. But a whole new generation first heard of Bohemian Rhapsody when Wayne‘s World came out 17 years later.
I was at Live Aid. Queen certainly stole the show. Their performance was more intense than anyone else's. It was revealed later that someone turned off the stadium's volume limiters! It was really loud man!
I remember watching this live on tv when I was in high school. It was amazing. Queen put on the best performance of the whole event. There were many bands upset they upstaged them so bad. I miss the 80's life was so much more simple then.
Ebony 16627 - Deaky is always ignored but he wrote over a dozen great songs including several of their biggest hits and even more co written with Freddie. He was an amazing musician who also played guitar and some piano.
I'm sure someone else here has said it, but Queen never actually broke up. The movie has some inaccuracies. Queen never broke up, in fact, Freddie didn't know about his illness during this performance. He was diagnosed in 1986 and I believe he only told hid bandmates in 88 or 89 about his problem although people suspected something was wrong long before then.
Live Aid belonged to Freddy. David Bowie was on stage next, and as they came off screen, he said 'Bastards!! How the hell am I going to follow that??' And Elton John burst into their dressing room, saying that they had totally stolen the show.!!
The Milton Keynes version is way better than the Montreal version. Montreal is better known, due to a recenter release on bluray wich had an improved sound and picture quality. But Milton Keynes is so much better, Freddies intro to that song, that first minute, says it all.
Gary Wesley what about the final show of the tour in 1986 at Wembley and which also turned out to be their FINAL. SHOW with Freddie. That whole show was amazing. The pro shot is on RUclips just look it up. Amazing!!!
The movie took artistic licence, Freddie was not diagnosed until 1987.. Freddie wrote Crazy Little Thing as homage to Elvis, he wrote it 2 years after Elvis had passed.. please check out more of the history and not rely on the film.. the film made me cry though, perhaps because Queen were part of my youth
What I find incredible is that the event was sold out long before queen where even booked. So no one was actually there to see queen. But, by the end of the performance I doubt anyone there cared who else was on. Queen just dominated. That wasn’t technically the full live aid though. Freddy and Brian returned later in the evening and did an amazing unplugged performance
This was not the curtain call, he wasn’t even diagnosed till 1987. The movie facts were mostly wrong. I am a bit upset that Brian and Roger would let things slide like they did, but the movie gave Queen another generation of Queen lovers
Yes Freddie Mercury was completely spontaneous and brilliantly pleasing to watch. So glad he didn't need nor want to be taught anything. HE WAS JUST FREDDIE MERCURY! ♡♡♡♡♡ ♡
@@tammyservin6024 I love Freddie the artist in every way, shape or form, but i just can't say that i find him sexy or that he appeals to me in that way, but yeah he was a magnet on stage. No question!!!
thanks Guys, as a Queen fan from the late 70's, I personally get frustrated, when people get facts about the band wrong, now with the Movie out, lots think it's a "documentary" but lots of the story is distorted for dramatic purposes. I don't blame anyone. I'm a bit of a super fan, I've seen EVERYTHING produced on Queen so my trivia on the band is pretty full on. The biggest error was the "breakup" that never happened. Freddie was doing Mr Bad Guy before Live Aid but with the full support of the band, plus Rogers band "The Cross" had a great sound. The best doco for Queen is a 3 volume VHS set (It's that old) called "Queen: Magic Years" which was filmed after the huge Magic tour in '86, after Live Aid, it's the best and most honest "behind the scenes" look at the Band and Freddie with interviews from a bunch of awesome musicians, friends, roadies, crew and just well known fans. I still to this day get emotional when I listen to the "Made in Heaven" album, songs like "The Show Must Go On" feels like Freddie saying goodbye to each one of us true fans. I sometimes feel a bit robbed by losing the greatest frontman in history. Even now, even the best vocalists admit the vocals in Queen songs have to be altered (pitch/key etc) because nobody can replicate his vocals. George got close in Somebody to love, but interviews with artists from the '92 Tribute concert all said they had to change the songs. He will never be forgotten, even if the Movie is not really accurate, I love that Freddie and the boy's are immortalized now in this way. "Not bad for 4 aging Queens". much love Freddie. R.I.P.
Hammer to fall is about the Cold War we were living through then. And crazy little thing was Freddie’s tribute to Elvis. ❤ Freddie was told not to sing by his doctors due to a throat condition but he got through magnificently.
Did you know Freddie wrote Crazy little thing in the bathtub? He got hold on a guitar, rushed down to the studio and had to record it at once - and it got to be a great hit. One thing for your daughter to think of: Watch the audience. There were ca 70.000 at Wembley, 100.000 at JFK stadium, broadcast all over the world. But this is the footage we have today. No candid cameras, no cellphones, no RUclips uploads. This was not Queen's ordinary audience. Many of them came for other artists, or just for the good cause. I don't think we will ever have a similar concert today. It wouldn' be possible to deny people to bring their phones ...

@@michellemoss4635 yep, the song is about life and death. Some believe that it is a cold war statement but Brian has quite clearly stated in interviews that it is to do with life and death and death being a part of life- the hammer to fall is representative of the grim reaper doing his job; that is, the hammer coming down.

I am lucky to be old enough that I watched this event live on TV. I don't recall who followed on the US stage (the coverage alternated from London to US every other act), but David Bowie followed Queen on the London stage. He killed it, as well. Both acts were the only ones to rehearse and also used their own sound/tech crew. Also, Queen had not broken up like in the movie, that was for dramatic storytelling. They had actually just finished a huge tour two months before. Queen did a massive tour the year after Live Aid. Freddie was not sick at Live Aid...he was diagnosed 2-3 years later.
"Waiting for the hammer to fall" is a slightly old fashioned English saying, meaning the same as "waiting for the other shoe to drop". It means expectation of consequences or punishment.
Freddie was born to entertain. Queen became absolute masters of their art. Never to be forgotten. Radio Gaga was possibly before Dad's time, definitely before rap-teens time :) I remember listening to it in my bedroom in the mid 80's. My father came up and told me to turn it down. I swapped to headphones, best thing I ever did with Queen's songs (and Pink Floyd of course!)

One of the best live performances ever. To think they weren't the headliner and this wasn't a Queen audience. You can even see Brian May turn his back as Freddie starts to do it.....but like most performances...Freddie had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand.

Who followed Queen? - it was David Bowie, who allegedly greeted the guys as they walked off stage with "Bastards!!"

I was 16 when Live Aid happened. It's hard to comprehend just how huge it was when compared to our world today, with instant access to content from all over the world; back then we basically had cable TV. A concert broadcast around the world was just an amazing concept for us.
Freddie’s energy was phenomenal and electrifying!

(During the tour, they were also the FIRST band to play behind the Iron Curtain, in Budapest.)
Then, in 1987 (after he received his diagnosis) Freddie pursued a life-long dream of his, to write/sing an operatic performance w soprano Montserrat Caballe, whom he idolized: called Barcelona.
Ro 2 maybe, but that’s speculation since he was not diagnosed until afterwards. You can have HIV and not be aware until you develop AIDS
Yeah this is why.i.hate that crap movie for all the fictional rubbish which some people will believe as.fact.etc. they had not broken up for years infact they had just finished touring few months before live aid. ChemicalReactions! -
First, they NEVER broke up before Live Aid and just did a massive stadium tour until a couple of months before.

Hi guys I really love your reactions.
Since you talked in lenght about Queen and Live Aid after you saw the concert I want to draw your attention to some points😉
I‘m not a fanboy, I just happend to witness the 80ies as a teenager😀
Nevertheless, great reaction. Thank you.
Should have known that the movie would take some large creative liberties.
Also, Bohemian Rhapsody DID do well when it was released, it went straight to number one and stayed there for nine weeks

That‘s true Bohemian Rhapsody was one of the biggest tunes during the 70ies, and still is😀. But a whole new generation first heard of Bohemian Rhapsody when Wayne‘s World came out 17 years later.

Live Aid belonged to Freddy.

thanks Guys, as a Queen fan from the late 70's, I personally get frustrated, when people get facts about the band wrong, now with the Movie out, lots think it's a "documentary" but lots of the story is distorted for dramatic purposes.
