I’m a bona fide Zappa phreak.
I kinda view Frank as a totally separate entertainment package.
I own probably 97% of every noise the man ever put to tape.
Over Nite Sensation was probably my first introduction to Frank’s music.
Back in those days I thought the songs were funny.
I knew something was up but it wasn’t until years later that I realized that I was dealing with a musical genius.
It’s a great time to be a Zappa fan these days.
I just gobble up all this stuff like a greedy sponge.
I’m loving every minute of it!
It blows me away how much stuff is coming out.
And the quality of material is just amazing!
The care that was taken to make it all sound so good deserves a nod as well.
Thank you to Joe and Ahmet.
And let’s not forget all those great tours Dweezil did to keep it all alive.
Thank you, thank you!
Needless to say I am anxiously waiting on my pre-order.
The present day composer refuses to die…..Indeed.

My introduction to Zappa, quickly followed by him being my first concert ever, on New Year's Eve, 12-31-75, at the Los Angeles Forum, in Inglewood. Ca. Dr. Demento used to play 'Dirty Love', once in a while. on his show. That was the first Zappa song for me. Saw him seven other times live. Always a treat!
It makes you wonder how much material Zappa recorded. I'm gonna have to live to 150 to listen to it all!
Zappa I’m diving deep into his works! Was he even human? He was a true genius. This album is a treat
I was at the Cobo Hall show. I can't wait to hear it after all these years! Thanks! Yes, I'll be buying it.
GREAT review of one of my favorite albums -- can't wait to hear the 50th anniv. editions
A fine boxed set, and not a speck of cereal. 😄👍
Love the phrase "unconventional tweezer deployment".
4:07 - that pic there .. pound-for-pound the greatest band in rock history.
After band rehearsal we would sit around , get loaded, and sing every word of the entire album at the top of our lungs...the best of times!
Cheers for showing it to us Barry. I pre-ordered it a couple of months back and I was thinking of cancelling it because it is well overpriced for what it is. To be honest, having purchased the Wakka/Wazzo box set for under £50 and the fact that you got two albums on the blu ray I was thinking they would pair this release up with Apostrophe ('). However, no such luck and yet they are asking a lot more for it and the fact that it's in a Clamshell box makes the price tag even more ridiculous.
Personally, I think the Zappa estate is taking the piss and if you are going to charge that sort of money the very least they could have done is give it a better presentation, not a cheap one as they have done. The one thing I did notice with this unboxing is that it also included the Quad mix and that has cheered me up a bit. However, I still feel I am being well ripped off with this release.
For me, every one of these releases is a must, even if I've never been the biggest fan of this particular record. It's the extras that I look forward to the most...
Impressive box set for the album. Will check into this album.
"She was buns up, and kneeling, I was wheeling and dealing"
I already got mine, haven’t had time to finish it but I love the Inca roads and wonderful wino on disc 1!
I’ve already ordered it. I’m looking forward to listening to it. 👍
I was introduced to Zappas Talent when I first heard Overnight Sensation and being a musician made me a Life long Fan!
I loved this and Apostrophe in my high school days. I might have to get this (damn sentimentality!).
Amazing i still miss the guy so much, wonder what he would be doing if he was still alive rip frank..i really enjoy Dweezil work ✌️🇬🇧
Very nice page turning of the booklet.
🌠Good Video Review Man..I'm gonna buy it...
Cool 👍
Fantastic album for sure with lots of bonus stuff...
Just now ordered it.
It's one of my two favorite mothers albums. The other album is Were only in it for the money.
I like this Album and Apostrophe as well.
I don think os is the same.
Fantastic album.
Aye,fer sure, though maybe some songs overlapping from the You Cant Do That on Stage Anymore series?
Anyway, remastered an repackaged, grand, just hope the price tag isnt too hefty-do love collecting but I reckon sometimes these packages are above their worth
Excellent review as always,
Cheers fella
Hot Rats is his best in my opinion, and it also includes Captain Beefheart for good measure. Pure, brilliant music throughout!
Thanks for the great review !! Will have a look for this.
Still the only Zappa album I can listen to as a whole. Other albums have highlights and a few songs in a row.
It’s remarkable to me that I heard this 40 years ago and loved it then.
40 years later and I’ve tried to listen to other Zappa albums and they only offer a smattering of cuts I enjoy.
Help me find another like it please !!!!
You don't like Apostrophe? Or Roxy and Elsewhere?
well as I wrote, I love Overnite Sensation in its entirety,, whereas I like other Zappa cuts or even groups of songs but, so far, no other album as a whole. I do enjoy parts of Apostrophe. I have listened to it every so often over the past 30 years. Haven't heard the live album. I will give it a whirl thanks.

My Christmas treat to myself. Will it ever end? Just kidding, I’ve been buying Frank’s albums since 1967. Happy Halloween.🎸🎃👻
Oh ffs... didn't know about this, now ordered!!
Yet another fantastic review - pure pleasure
Can I just mention apropos of nothing the painting on the left hand side of the studio which is great!?
My wife is the artist
Thank you sir, this is the first time I’ve heard it was released and will check it out. Great job on unboxing and showing us what we get. Probably the most accessible Zappa album besides apostrophe. hard to believe 50 years has gone by my very first copy was in eight-track, and don’t you know that the track broke right in the middle of dirty love, my favorite song!
Pre ordered by my lovely 🎉🎉
daughter
Ron Jeremy!
The 5.1 is very good, although, to my mind the main vocals seem a little high in the mix on some tracks, but the effect of sitting in the middle of the studio is fascinating.
i was creaming myself when you started flicking thru the luscious booklet to the point of exploding.
Hmmm lovely image.... Have you ordered this?
Zircon encrusted tweezing thangs
I may need to sell my zircon encrusted tweezers to afford this lol
Fine review Barry. As much as I like this album, I won't be investing in this set as it seems expensive for what you are getting. The overall presentation could have been better at the price. A 2 CD set at a much lower price would have made it more accessible I feel. The recent extended re-issues of two Little Feat albums show how it could be done.
You can play that blu-ray 2.0 stereo track in any player that has L/R analogue outputs...feed them into a spare amplifier input. Then you compare that to the CD.
Wasnt "Cosmik Debris "on Apostrophe?
of course...
RDNZL was studio Tan.
Hello!! I have ordered this because i love Frank Zappa and this is one of the best!!😋 I’m thinking, one of the greatest Prog albums…Selling England by the Pound!! Fifty years and no box !!?? Tony Banks Come On!!!……😉🖤🥰☠️…..
Some European copies of this cd set have audio problems on discs 2 and 3!
I'm not into box sets so I'll give this a miss. But if the Blu-ray with the Dolby Atmos is ever released as a stand-alone item, I'll definitely pick that up.
Ron Jeremy.....BWAHAHAHA!!!
I've never understood or had the time to know where to start with Zappa, any advice?
This album is good. My favourite is 'One Size Fits All' - check out my video 'Ten Best Zappa albums'
This one, apostrophe, and hot rats. Then, live at the Filmore is an excellent example of his live shows. Also, his first album Freak Out is probably my favourite, and then Joe’s Garage. These are his most listenable (close to normal) albums.
@triple5762
Good choice!
I remember that Hot Rats was once described as The Frank Zappa album that people who don't like FZ can listen to-or thereabouts
Can't go wrong with George Duke, Ruth Underwood, the Fowlers...in your band.
@classicalbum
LOL! My answer would match yours word for word.👍
ZIRCON encrusted tweezers.
Live stuff sounding great?
How did you get this so early???
I pray to the Gods of Rock! 💥
Disc two: Bonus Vault Sensations ‘CONTINUTED’ … error or am I missing some joke there?
It’d be nice to own at a quarter of the money but it’s too expensive for me.
Bonus Vault Sensations begin on disc 1 after the album.
As ever the cost entry is somewhat stiff, especially given there's no new remix but an old remaster.
How did you get this early 🤔🇬🇧
I pray to the Gods of Rock
Isn’t it crazy that Zappa is not a “household” name? I know he wasn’t “commercial”…but he was someone that pushed the envelope…even tore it open on occasions. Glad every one knows who Nicki Minaj is though 🙄
Sir Cosmic Debris is on Apostrophe not Overnight Sensation.
Yes, but it features in this set.
Looks like a cd…???
Why does it take the Zappa Estate eons of time to release material I mean we had to wait until Gail died before the finally released the Roxy DVD just because Uncle Frank got a little bit lewd with a stripper at the end of one of the performances and they left out Montana one of the highlights of the concerts. Where is the Central Scrutinizer when you need him?
Nearly £90 for 5 discs in a small clamshell box?
Been a Zappa fan for a long time. I've got most of the Zappa box sets, and original vinyl but these recent box sets are rather (very) overpriced! Great music but feels like the family trust is ringing every cent they can for themselves from Frank's work.
All these Zappa sets are expensive
His most “listenable” album.
It costs a bridge
I suppose there is a possibility that Mr. Zappa would have released some or all of this material had he lived. But the sad fact is he died. Therefore, I'm most likely going to pass on this, and stick with the original Overnight Sensation I've had for 50 years. Even if it were reasonably priced, I'd still let it slide. Thanks anyway.

Just zircon, not diamonds on those tweezers.
Diamonds on my tweezers
One and a half minutes in and I have already muttered 'zircon encrusted tweezers, not diamond' shortly followed by 'Cosmik Debris was on my copy of Apostrophe' , not Overnite Sensation. I think I should stop here.
Yes, but it is in this set
As mentioned, I only watched for a minute and a half. I would hope that you went on to question the inclusion of so much 'non-Overnite' material in this set, which looks to me like a justification for the enormous price tag - 89 quid is rather alot.
I gather this set features a 2012 remaster of the original, that is the vinyl I'm now looking for - thanks for indirectly letting me know of it's existence
88 euro's mmmm , for an average album you could make a four disc best of Frank , all of his albums , got maybe 35 % good stuff per record , but thankx anyway
I think all these Zappa sets are overpriced tbh
It's his two youngest kids who are fleecing the fans.
Not anymore, the whole kaboodle was sold to Universal Music enterprises.
£89? No.
Delayed for 3 weeks but this guy gets it already? WTF? - JayPFunk
