He was gonna asphyxiate her with the magazine The alien was making Dallas and Brett into facehugger eggs. It’s called eggmorphing and has rarely been seen in anything else She ran back to shut off the self destruct because the alien was right in front of the escape pod. She couldn’t get to it If you’re gonna watch Aliens, I recommend watching the extended edition
Quite different approaches between the original and the first sequel. The first is a sci-fi horror movie with realistic acting while the second is a sci-fi action movie with action-movie acting. I'm in the vast minority that much prefers the former.
Everyone will definitely want you to do Aliens and yes if you're invested in Ripley's story Aliens is a must. It's the movie you've probably seen the most mimes from and you get the iconic Ripley from the 80s.
Blue, you should really watch the next one, "Aliens", you will love it! This one is more suspense/horror like, with a slower pace. The second one is more action packed and with more interesting characters (Ripley is still interpreted by Sirgouney Weaver). PS: the dinner reunion in this one was filmed without the knowledge of most of the actors in the scene, about what was going to happen, so, we can actually say that those were their real reactions to it. Very nice touch from the director. ^^
Although the crew acts gruffly to each other, most of the deaths occur out of their love for each other. The crew want to bring Kane back on the ship in order to treat him. Dallas hunts the Alien by himself in order to protect his crew. Parker leaves his hidey-hole and attacks the Alien to protect Lambert. Ripley puts herself in danger to try to protect Jones.
So this looks like an extended version too. I've watched Alien many times but never seen the Dallas/Brett cocooned in the walls scene. This now explains the 'Kill Me' from the James Cameron movie. Thanks for this!
"Alien" and "Aliens" made Sigourney Weaver into a major movie star and made "Warrant Officer/Third Officer Ripley" into a credible action character. Unlike the current crop of SoyKids, "Ellen Ripley" is the very definition of a Strong Female Character. (Along with "Sarah Connor" of "Terminator" and "two fisted Marion Ravenwood" of "Raiders of the Lost Ark.")
@@Otokichi786And Princess Leia Organa herself!! Props also to Lindsay from The Abyss, Samantha/Charly from The Long Kiss Goodnight, played by Geena Davis, who is also great in A League of their Own, Jodi Foster's turn as Clarice Starling, Dana Scully, Trinity, Leeloo, even Thelma & Louise or Buffy Summers (although I like Cordy's character development in Angel more than l like Buffy). I'd quote more recent examples, but I'm trying to keep it pre-2000 to make a point that this thing with having women that could cross swords or wits with anyone on the screen didn't happen yesterday. Shit even Jessica Fletcher from Murder She Wrote outfoxed every villain she crossed paths with. Granted, not with the same style as Thomas Magnum, but who could? You can go back even further in film (and TV) for women with agency. Heard of Nyota Uhura, Holly Golightly, Scarlett O'Hara, Maria von Trapp, Mary Poppins, Dorothy Gale, Rose Sayer, Ilsa Lund? Bet there's dozens more too.
The chestburster scene was a groundbreaker. The scriptwriter was talking to a couple of guys who ran a chain of movie theaters in Texas, and they cut the scene from their print. That way they didn't have to clean up vomit in the restrooms. He was also curious how the whole thing would be received. At the premier, he sat behind Warren Beatty and Jack Nicholson, who he said "screamed like little boys".
Blue has all the makings of a great reactor. 1- you pay attention and don't talk over important dialogue. 2-you get into the movie and talk to the characters. 3- excellent jump scares. 4- lots of "that what she said" comments. 5- adorable and fun to watch!!!
Even if you haven't seen any of the Alien movies, games, comics or anything, you must have still seen the creature before? The Xenomorph is such an iconic horror creature I just assumed everyone has seen it somewhere!
That's the extended version, with the egg-morphing scene. It was cut from all other versions I saw from this and I once saw the outtake separately, but I didn't know an extended version with the egg-morphing scene as part of the actual movie exists. Awesome! Know I get it, why the fan community considers it part of the lore, even though it was cut from the theatrical version.
The laser used where the eggs were was borrowed from the rock band The Who , who was rehearsing next to where they were filming Alien, the director asked if he could borrow them.
The actors went to a first screening of this, and thought people were leaving. Turns out they were just so scared they were moving to the back seats. Haha
Welcome to the world of the Xenomorph (official name of the creature in the alien series) his adult stage, after going through its stages of: Egg, Facehugger and Chestburster.
1:38 Yaaaaaaaaaaas, _that's_ what we were waiting for, hahahaha 😄. Now Blue, just imagine seeing this film in a huge, dark, booming theater as I did. I was 18. We all nearly shat ourselves a couple of times. Some people left during the show - it was just too much. This was a great reaction. I got here from part 1 of this reaction so I shall happily sub. Now you MUST do _Aliens_ very soon, hehe
1:39 Jazz Hands!! 😍 And how about Lambert, huh? How come nobody talks about how much of a fraidy cat she is? Her comfort zone is so narrow, so tightly focussed, and the world outside her comfort zone is such a stark contrast that she's simply unable to function outside of it. Her first instinct is to retreat. She can't fight, she can't run, and something so terrifying as the Alien simply freezes her to the spot in blind fear. Other than being the ship's navigator, Lambert is bloody useless in a crisis, a literal helpless damsel in distress.
I watched & loved horror movies all my life but Alien is still the most nerve-racking movie I've ever seen. The best part is that it never gets EASIER to watch! It still turns me into a jittery mess every time I watch it.
There was a storyboarded scene that never made the movie where the scouting party come across a mural inside an alien pyramid that depicts the life cycle of the alien creature. While it doesn't explain the vast number of eggs in the hold of the derelict ship, it showed how the victims were cocooned in what would develop into one of those leathery eggs to serve as food to the face hugger-type alien so the cycle could continue. That's what was happening to Brett and Dallas. It was a perfect organism with a defense system (its molecular acid "blood') that protected it from attack. This movie's sequel held onto part of this and weaved its own brand of alien creature that was easily mowed down with gunfire with the egg creation mechanism being a huge 'queen' creature. For my money, it cheapened the purity of the creature and made the species like drone ants or bees protecting their queen. I found the original self-contained life cycle to be vastly more interesting and unique.
I know I said it in the previous video, but seeing Predator is an absolute must; it's the epitome of 80's action flicks, and shows a different side of Arnold Schwarzenegger, as do the first two Terminator films
As for the "vintage" style you comment on in closing: I'd say there is little in this film that looks painfully dated. Since we still aren't flying around in space in ginormous spacecraft like the Nostromo, nobody can tell just what they would look like in "reality." The one thing that looks off is, inevitably, the computers. This is supposedly "the future", now as in 1979, but they have monochrome green screens that inexplicably make the sound of a printer just to display plain text (which only emerges letter by letter ...) Kubrick's "2001" from 1968 did a better job pre-visualizing modern-style flat screens with full color.
Nice, since you can go through directors cut versions of films I would like to suggest a few :) Aliens Blade Runner Turbo Kid 28 Days Later Kung Fury "John Woo's" The Killer Predator Commando Conan The Barbarian Sorry, the list could go on, but you are providing fun content :)
I don't know the reason, but doesn't part 1 contain your entire reaction to the full movie? Is this the highlights? Or maybe it's an accident... ...although, I think 'How to train your Dragon 3' was the same.
I don't agree with you about the vintage plot comment at the end. The plot was flushed out as much as possible to immerse the viewer into this movie. The only thing that this "advanced" stuff, they are still not able to immerse the viewers as they once did. They regurgitate new movies based on the old ones without care or continuity. I am not saying that all new movies are bad, but if you are basing new movies around older movies, you have to be EVEN more vigilant about how you make it because you are both aiming to making the enjoyable for both the newer viewers and the older ones wanting a little bit more based on their nostalgia.
The effects look 'vintage' to you? I mean, other than the end with the alien outside the shuttle (which looked pretty cheesy, i admit) these effects look WAY better than most of the computer graphics crap we have nowadays. Puppets, costumes, and practical effects look real (they ARE physically real) while CG is so obviously fake (you can tell instantly, it's just computer graphics). In fact, they've been using mostly puppets and practical effects in the last several years of Star Wars films/shows BECAUSE they look so much more real than stupid CG.
I disagree. All of the films in the main series (excluding the AVP films) are made by brilliant directors who each bring a unique approach to the material, which is rare in a long-running franchise. I'll fully admit that I do not like Alien Resurrection (despite liking other works by the same director), but I would rather people form their own opinion on the movie than take mine. Besides, it opens up the opportunity for discussion afterward.
Opinions I guess, you can kill main characters in a show. In some ways I can appreciate that but you don't do it disrespectfullly. It's the same reason I couldn't watch the Walking Dead after they killed Glenn.
@@douglasostrander5072 In the case of Alien 3, Brandywine and Sigourney Weaver agreed that it was best to burn the bridges and leave no room for future sequels, largely because they had heard about 20th Century Fox's plans to make an Alien vs. Predator film.
