    I'm greek and in greek the chinrest is called hyposiagono (ee-paw-see-ah-gone-oh) and it literally means "Under-jaw". It's very funny because I always tell my students when they start "It's called 'under-jaw' not 'under-chin' " when they instinctively try to hold the violin using their chin :P.

    Thank you! Very helpful video. Now I'm looking for the "Perfect Shoulderrest" Video, but I can't find it. Did you already produce it?

    Excellant overview of chinrests for violins. I think yours and Mr. Purichers are so far the best sight for violin chin rests. Keep up the good work! Thank you so much!😅

    Teka model Chinrest is one of the most comfortable and popular chinrest to use. The same thing to Wittner side-mounted chinrest which i'm using right now.

    Today I started first time as beginner with Violine, but found out that chin rest or shoulder holder is a problem. Good to know that we can search for individuell solutions! Greetings from Germany!

    Being short with short arms , it's hard to bow all the way to the tip of the bow, so putting the violin more center in front of you will be easier to bow all the way to your bow tip. So center chin rest is good for short people with short arms.

    Thanks so much for this video!
    I’m an adult beginner trying to find a chinrest that works well with my long neck and bony shoulders. Unfortunately I don’t have to access to a violin shop where I can try chinrests out, but I’m going to order some tall ones online and try the method you mentioned. The pictures of the violin hold with different chinrest positions are useful too!

    Thanks for the video. I'm a beginner but the violin I got has got a really big chinrest (Guarneri) and I have got a very small jaw, together with a long neck and very small and bony shoulders. I first thought it is just the position that I'm not used to yet, but still I need to get a different chinrest I think. I think the teka is a good choice but I ordered a Flesch now. I hope it will do.

      Hi, did you find something that works for you? I have exactly the body type as you described and I am looking for a chin rest that suits me better, do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

    I don't know what happened, but the chinrest I've been using for years is suddenly not comfortable anymore. Why would that be?

  • @KevenNewsome

    I have a question. Whenever I set the shoulder rest and then try to place my chin, when I secure my chin the bottom half of the shoulder rest comes up. I've extended that part of the shoulder rest out as far as it will go and lowered the closer one, but it didn't help. When I place my chin, I immediately get about two inches of gap at the bottom of my shoulder rest. It is definitely not comfortable. Is the problem with my chin rest or shoulder rest? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

    Doesn't a side-mount chinrest move the violin relatively more forward? (opposite of what you showed?)

    • @steveandrews8301
      @steveandrews8301 Год назад

      Yes, it does, you're correct. I too was a bit confused by his diagrams of it. Ignore the directional read arrow and just listen again to what he says, instead, and it will make better sense and agree with what you are saying.
