Nope. Youth national team coaches don't spend that much time with players, and the results of this generation isn't any better than previous ones in this century.
And most of the "top" players we're relying on are all flopping out of their top clubs, be it talent or mentality I don't care. Weston has failed us, Gio Reyna is on his last chance. Dest has failed us and had to go back home, not even to Ajax, but PSV. Richards definitely failed us, going from Bayern to Crystal freaking Palace and doing nothing at a mediocre club is a huge failure, thanks to him we have no CBs. Antonee Robinson is failing us by being a coward and not making the jump to a big club. Weah is invisible at Juventus, Musah is invisible at Milan. Balogun never made Arsenal and had to move to Monaco, not a bad club, but still a step down, for playing time and was still doing poorly. Pulisic is the only one who revived his career, but had to be cast out of Chelsea to Milan, like their other scrubs, to do it, and because he's our top player, dropping to Milan like a scrub is still a strike against him. So I ask you, what great generation?? They are just barely more talented than previous generations and because of their club downgrades, and embarrassing non-successes for the USMNT are still ridiculed by the rest of the world, even by Mexicans 🤦♂️😢
That would be subjective. You have a few decent individuals, but you’re not exactly blessed with a depth of quality. Who replaces Pulisic for example if he’s injured? You can judge a team by looking at its bench and the US has a weak bench.

@7:08 it really resonated with me what Tab said about having to start with teaching Children and process of learning how to be a Coach. This is a "skillset" (like anything else) that needs to be developed, and often times with elite athletes, not a skillset given much attention during your competing years. Then later confronted with being a coach, realizing you have to start at square-one. I can relate, having been a very successful wrestler in HS and Div.1 collegiate wrestling; I recall in my late 20s I helped a former college teammate run a week long clinic for 5-9 yrs olds (including his son). Wow, was that eye opening. Not having kids at the time, no formal training as a teacher or in education...you really have to start at square-one with understanding how to communicate - in an age appropriate way to kids. Plus, with kids that young, whom have ZERO attention span, realize that some kids are just going to face the other direction and pick their nose, while other more mature kids will be more attentive and interested. Coaching involves all those things, besides understanding moves and tactics and being able to execute them yourself. So, while I had the skillset of running practice or drills as a team captain, or confident enough to walk into any HS or College wrestling room and show young adults technique and skills...its a very different thing than being able to coach at different age levels without developing that skillset. So spot on Tab, and an honest and humble statement to make (even for x3 world cup players, haha).
Excellent interviews, Tac! As always. Loved seeing a legend like Tab Ramos come to the show and talk with you about our past and future. Disagreed with him a bit on how important it is to have an open pyramid (from the from the previous episode) as the MLS and open division soccer in the USA don’t NEED to be tied together. However, both SHOULD be allowed to exist. Other than that, LOVED these 2 videos. I’d love to see guys like Jesse Marsch or even Jurgen Klopp on next (now that his schedule is free if course). 😉
So much respect for Tab. He has done a lot for the youth here in NJ as well as in the US as a whole. I would not mind seeing an interview with Bruce Arena if you could pull that one off.
They fired him a month ago. When someone fires a coach without a successor lined up already, it takes time. It is clear that US Soccer did not think they could lose to Panama, and thus exit when they did. They probably thought they would lose to Uruguay and whoever they faced from Colombia or Brazil, and then move on with Gregg. That didn't happen, and made the change. It isn't a big deal. The September and October friendlies were never going to have any bearing on 2026. Being bad in the summer doesn't make a game with New Zealand matter.
Unless you’ve got highly talented defenders playing at a high level I advise the US against trying to play out from the back at the wc. You’ll get torn apart snd won’t get past the group stages. Play to your strengths. Georgia at the Euro’s might be a better example to follow. They played a pragmatic, but exciting game, but firstly making sure they were tough to break down, playing counter attacking football and it was pretty successful.
