It's a massive appointment for you guys, im English, and you know it'd a big deal, our media's been talking about it, mainly wondering why we never approached him (I suspect they're going to give it to Lee Carsley, he was the U21 manager, and I believe he's been given the interim role as an audition for the job), but back to Poch, just on reputation he's the biggest name coach worldwide that's probably ever managed in CONCACAF, if this doesn't work, I'm willing to bet it won't be on the manager
Yes, I agree. If Poch doesn't work out the real cause will be obvious. Most likely a squad that just isn't good enough and very sketchy development. For the record, I consider success to be quarterfinals in the WC, with semifinals be a smashing success!
@RonRova I agree, I think quarters should be the aim, anything better is just icing on the cake at that point, one thing I'm looking forward to seeing from you guys (I do keep an eye on the USMNT, I've got some American friends) is to see how he develops Reyna and Balogun, Poch is very good with younger players, e.g Dele Alli, Cole Palmer, he helped turn Harry Kane from a decent young striker into an absolute beast
@@mrmr5580The quarters is my reasonable goal for the team, as well. I’m excited to see what Poch can get out of this team. Our lack of depth at center back is concerning, and our pool of goalkeepers is the worst it’s been in the modern era of US Soccer. Hopefully some guys can step up. I think most of our team is well set up to play the way Poch would want, but he’ll have to be a bit more pragmatic than usual with our lack of talent in those positions.
@michaelstein7510 Poch should find the right roles for certain players, like I said he's good at developing young guys, not just attackers, I mean he turned Trevor Chalobah into Chelsea's best defender next to Thiago Silva last season, Conor Gallagher became their best midfielder, I agree quarters minimum at the world cup should be the aim now, certain players will develop under Poch, im interested to see who, there'll certainly be changes, I don't think Weston McKennie will be showing up overweight anymore, if he does Poch won't ever play him, Tyler Adams won't play either if he's not fit, Poch will figure out something
Gio Reyna needs to PLAY regularly whether it's at Dortmund or wherever because if he's riding the bench, Pochettino is not gonna play him on the USMNT...
I dont like the telling casuals we don't have the players yet to compete. I understand tempering expectations but letting people get excited so they will go to friendlies to cheer and support the team. If they think we cant compete they will simply stay home.
Before he went there Spurs were pretty much known as a cup team, but he made them competitive in the PL, consistently finishing in the top four on a regular basis on a much smaller budget than the teams above. He could have won trophies there, but often sacrificed the domestic cups by playing weakened teams to focus on the league and UCL qualification. He never had the squad and depth of quality to be challenging on all fronts.
Good content...glad to be able to listen to soccer talk that doesn't include screaming (aka Jimmie Conrad) or pontificating (aka Alexi Lalas)... Thanks !
I really hope Gio finds a team and gets consistent minutes. I really believe this coach can bring the best out of him but needs to get minutes and show he deserves it
He will get them fit and healthy he liked a press at spurs.. and he will get people onside as he is quite a warm person in press interviews... if given say a long time post 26 world cup could really get the youth up to high spec in usa as always had a interest while at clubs...
I really hope he has the ability to install his own staff and approach. If he can put the players on notice and reignite competition for places, he'll be a great change of pace.
For GK and CB, I would like to see a clean slate. Slonina and Steffen for GK, with Matt Freese getting a look. CBs would be Trusty and Mckenzie getting looks next to Richards. Would also like to see EPB finally get a fair shot at CB. Does John Brooks also come back?
AT LAST a SOUTH AMERICAN COACH THAT WILL see ALL the stuff in the USMNT...is up to the PLAYERS NOW...i wanna see HUNGRY, be smart in the pitch, a go getter, hustling, TOUCH AND PASS , ATTACKS FROM ALL OVER , dont play around in the box area , KILL in the enemys box...we wanna see something so, is UP TO THE PLAYERS TO UP THEIR GAME AND HOPEFULLY THEY DO THAT WITH THE HELP OF MAURICIO ARRIVAL AND LETS START COOKIN
Being argentinean myself and as tradition requires, a die hard futbol fan, I think this is the best that could happen to US "soccer" (Dang I hate that word!) Congrats, finally the federation did something right.
We badly need to improve our CB pool. Tessman seems like the type of player who can easily switch from DM to CB, like Geoff Cameron did, and it would likely give him a much faster path to playing for the senior team.
It's been put out there...this is not a hot take: Our players NEED TO PLAY for their club. Some of our "best" players are NOT playing for their clubs. They're riding the bench. If they don't play, they need to go. There is a REASON why they aren't playing for their clubs. I PRAY that Poch sticks to this...
The coolest thing he can do at this point is a full hard reset on roster no matter their shortcomings, especially over the last year. GGG crashed the car like we all predicted. Not the passengers fault for wanting to jump out early.
There's potential for some roster turnover if players don't make smart club decisions. Mckennie needs to find a club and one where he gets regular playing time. Tyler Adams needs to get and stay healthy. Gio Reyna needs to find playing time. Musah and Weah need playing time, Turner too. I'm betting Poch will not rely on guys that aren't gettin regular playing time w/ their pro clubs
The problem has always been the players and the fact they play in Europe. The best U.S.A. team we have ever had was when we had MLS player in them. Just playing in Europe is not a big hype.
Todd Boehly is a true American patriot for ruining Chelsea so we could upgrade both our national team managers. 😂 In all seriousness, Chelsea are a mess right now. Boehly and their board were morons to let Poch go when he was just starting to turn things around. I would be very hesitant to join that club as a player or coach. They don’t have a clue what they’re doing.
This is why US men's football (soccer) is not evolving. You are unable to recruit people who are charismatic and have real abilities. But only a coach that the elite of European football no longer wants because his coaching is outdated and ineffective.🙄
Seriously, which coach currently coaching a good team in Europe or South America would choose to coach the USMNT? It's simply not a team that can seduce top-notch coaches. Case in point: As bas as Brazil had been playing, Ancelotti wanted to coach them, until a scandal erupted about the Brazilian football association, and it nicked the plan. Why did he want to? Because Brazil is Brazil; they're winners even when it doesn't seem that way. The U.S team is arguably the #1 team in CONCACAF, but it doesn't mean anything because the top-notch coaches just straight-up said, "Nope, thank you" when offered the job. Poch might be the next best hire. He'd worked with some talented players at Chelsea, Tottenham, and PSG. Let's see what he does with this rag-tag group.
Porchettino always likes to walk the street and picking guys that have interest to do whatever it takes to be trained for the best. He wouldn't mind going to MLS and selecting desperate interested players that Wana sacrificed anything to be great. Porchettino sees the world of sports before it sees him and that makes him specal
To think Tim Weah set us on this course to get this level coach
He certainly assisted..
I've been dreaming of poch since this new generation of players jumped on the scene. LETS GOOOOOO!

Cardoso is poised to take his place. Gregg allowing a hurt Adams to start this summer, hurt Adams career in the longrun.
Great insight guys. I go to other channels for the energy, but I come here for the knowledge.
I’m a argie , thank me later USNMT . Great singing. Poch is perfect for this group of players

Great show. I love how Reyna plays, but how does he get callups (and game time under Pochettino) if he's sitting on the bench during his club season?

The best thing about poch for the US is that he usually has good relationships with the players, but it is really hard on discipline.

Our savior
If McKennie comes into camp overweight, then he's not in the 18.
He's been that way his whole career
McKennie won't even make this team with the new coach, if they want to win, they need better players. He is not one of them
Koleocho may commit now. Tessman and or Maloney at cb would solve cb issues

Need Final Four game 2026 WC
Everyone plays in the round of 32 so you have to win that to make the round of 16 and go on from there
If Pochettino is so great according to English people, why isn't he being hired to coach the Three Lions?
Somehow, We’ve nicked both Chelsea’s Women’s and Men’s managers
