A guy in a bar heard me talking about cars, invited me to see his. We go out, it was one of these. He took me for a short ride, every time he upshifted, the whole front end of the car came off the road. This was in the mid-1970s. I'll never forget it. The only other car that wowed me like that was a Jaguar XKE because of its phenomenal handling.
Thank you for a wonderful film and a trip back in time. Your comment about the handling in the wet took me straight back 50 years to the day I swopped my Lotus Cortina for a TVR Vixen. I bought it from a pilot colleague in the RAF at Wittering and drove it home to Benson on a day which started out hot and sunny and ended in thunderstorms and heavy rain. In the dry the car was glued to the road and was such fun on country lanes and roundabouts. However, after several weeks of no rain, when finally it arrived it made the tarmac quite slick. So my first wet roundabout on the A1 was a sobering experience, as no doubt I was enjoying this pocket rocket a little too much and going a tad too fast and all too soon I had lost the back end and I was grateful for my rallying experience to exit the roundabout in one piece! I took the car over to France for the Dunkirk commemoration event and we were parked up in Lille and drew quite a crowd of onlookers. As the car by then sported a beautiful metallic blue paint job, I am sure those folk mistook it for an Alpine Renault!
This guy really doesn't know cars very well if he thinks the Ford 289 is an overhead cam motor. lol I would love to have one, but I think I would have to rob 2 banks to get one of these babies. Wish they made this into a kit car, but I have never seen one.
I saw a TVR first in the early 1960's in the UK. I was 16. The car was made by company in Blackpool, UK by a guy called Trevor who gave the car his name:"TreVoR"
Thank you for sharing your car with us! I like the TVR Griffith very much both for their powerful engine and the body style. Love the back end and the taillights they put on the Griffiths too. The interior is also nicely done! Enjoy your car sir.
Cannot stop watching this VIDEO These early Griffiths sure put the E Type and the other Super cars to shame. Dreaming of a LOTTO WIN to make you an offer you cannot Refuse .The work and time you and others have put into this Beast shows in the Video. Why not make another to keep us TVR owners Proud. !!!!!
I have the Chimaera probably not the best T.V.R. to be had but the most popular i think ?? It is the best fun car I have ever owned/driven I ride motorbikes but now being the wrong side of 65 I spend more time in the T.V.R. than on the bikes because when you are on the older side and you fall off it hurts a lot more !!!! The T.V.R is as much fun as a bike in my humble opinion because you get the sound the speed but in much more comfort !!! I would love a Griffith as they really are a classic within their own right and still look good as yours does infact yours looks bloody great !! Nice balance not over done but just right Those wheels look superb as do the bonnet vents etc Nice up load and well presented Thankyou !!
Lovely car. I'm trying to remember the name of those wheels, something like Maglites maybe? They weren't made in significant numbers and must be as rare as the car! Suit the car beautifully.

I just learned about the TVR in the last week. Had never heard of them after all these decades living in the USA. Would love to own one, but it seems they've caught on and are very expensive.

Hi, l left a comment yesterday , they were made by J.A.PEARCE an English company who l believe made aircraft wheels in the second world war. J.A.PEARCE I understand no longer exists. The widest tyre In the '60's was 205, possibly 215/15 70's . ( fitted on Rolls Royce's). Low profiles were in their infancy.
The wheels are very rare. J.A.Pearce alloys. I believe the company made wheels for the aircraft industry during the second world war. No idea of it's value. At a guess less than £100k?

What a beast, I can only imagine how powerful that V8 feels in that light body.
My neighbour used to have one of these... I used to wake up at 6 everyday to the sound of it warming up.
Made my days.
Beautiful car, I drove one 50 years ago. I still have the brochure I set for in 1964 or 1965.
( it was overhead valves, not overhead cams )...

Fantastic!
Those wheels look comically large compared to the body, almost cartoon like...love the Cortina MK1 rear lights.
Were putting one on the road today 28/08/19.... 4.6 serpentine V8 upgrade !
camshaft (singular) is in the engine block, not in the heads
I think you mean crankshaft. Cams are in the heads. Duh. They drive the valve train.
@@nigelsandeman2642 NO. This is an OHV Ford Pushrod v8 : both cam and crank are in the block.- Sandy Shoremann - NO Relation :)

It may not be a perfect car , but it sure looks and sounds great !
Nice video, super car. Ofcourse it's Tvrrrrrrrrr! Thanks for sharing. Belgian? Me too and Tvr too...
Hi! Would you know where I can buy a model like this or something similar?
Bonjour ! Chouette vidéo, merci beaucoup !
Comment peut-on rentrer en contact avec le propriétaire de cette belle auto ?
The way this guy talks. It reminds me of dorf goes fishing.
2 over head camshafts? in a Ford iron block?
Nice video and pretty rare car...
Two camshafts?? I don’t think so
So yeah, he meant to say overhead valves. English is not his first language obviously - you gotta give non-English speakers a break sometimes.
1:18, “overhead can shaft engine” Unforgivable ignorance!
overhead valves with pushrods lol
Yeah, he's a dick for saying it, but he's driving it and I'm not ...
The Brits made some great machines! Imagine being able to buy a brand-new MG Midget for about ~$18,000 today.
Very good video
You can keep todays " HyperCars" . Give me a RAW 60's sports racer.
count me in. what a beast of a car
Shut up boomer
I just learned about the TVR in the last week. Had never heard of them after all these decades living in the USA. Would love to own one, but it seems they've caught on and are very expensive.
They can challenge a Cobra as one of the fastest cars produced in the 1960s, so their price is till affordable relative to a Cobra's price.
Light Bulb
Dead joke
those front tires tho!!!!
Love that fat v8.
Cool 🎉
Are they Ford Corrina tailights ?
MKI Cortina rear lights yes
Two over cam camshafts? Really? Take care of it in post?
But does it have a lot of power?
Triumph Spitfire steering column
Drive it around the Nurburgring...
How to describe this video with two words: lot of... :D
Great car but no overhead camshafts on that motor.
@0:14 He was responsible for the creation, dude. The chassis came from England and the engine from Ford.
Keep in mind Ford had a huge production facility in Dagenham, the East End of London. So almost certainly that was a British made V8 Ford engine.
@@edwardhalpin7503 I doubt that very much - why would Ford build an engine in the UK that NO car in the UK at that time used and ship them all to the US at additional cost????

Sorry my friend, it's a superb sports car, but it does not have overhead camshafts.

A very seductive backside indeed - one that will disappear into the distance very quickly!
