My next door neighbour had a yellow TVR Griffith back in the 80's. He was of German background and knew a thing or two about cars. He would tell me how the "Griff" Would eat up the Porsches off the lights in the streets of Sydney and me being a naive teenager would laugh it off as a joke. Then one day he took me for a spin and I have to admit, I both came and shat myself at the same time. It felt as if I were in a space capsule and to this day the sweetest sounding
Still do. The 4.6 4-valve makes a similar sound but a bit smoother, the Trinity 5.8 in the GT500 Super Snake sounds incredible, the 5.4 is pure violence, and both of the 5.2s are ear breakers with a good exhaust.
Hi Bozzy.🖐 I remember this beast from a little while back. Lightweight, agile, and musclebound, this car has all the attributes I am looking for. Such a badass machine that looks and sounds killer! So glad you took the time to make a dedicated video for it, mate.🙏 This TVR Griffith 200 is definitely worthy of being in the spotlight.👌 Take care and have a great day, my friend.
Yeah, tried to check in my folders if I can edit a decent video of it and I'd say something acceptable has come up :) Now I need to record it better on track ;D Thanks for watching Mick!
Alex Neil I don’t need to prove anything here as I’m sure no one really cares either way.. but this was my last TVR, a 420 SEAC filmed around 5 years ago.. ruclips.net/video/_uEJA4nAxzw/видео.html 1 of only 37 built by TVR.. and for what it’s worth.. yes, I had a 450 SEAC before that..G968 DWP.
The 400 had an updated redesigned rear suspension with a Salisbury Jag rear end to handle more power. The standard engine in the 400 was the more powerful Ford 289 'HiPo' Windsor engine producing 271 hp that was available in the Series 200 as an option. They had improved cooling with a larger radiator with twin electric fans, and a redesigned rear with better visibility and the round taillights sourced from the Ford Cortina Mark
To add onto the replies here, particularly from 63 grand sport, the Tuscan V8s of the same vintage improved yet again.. sorta. The SWB (short wheel base) Tuscan V8 was basically a copy of the Griffith 400 when TVR came back from a brief bankruptcy. The LWB Tuscan V8 set about to try to fix two main ongoing problems, overheating and "twitchiness". The late cars had a cooling system that worked better and an extra 4." in the wheelbase to smooth it's "twitchiness". At the end of production two Tuscans were made using a Ford Boss 302 motor. (The others could be optioned from stock 289/302 up to that Boss and all in between.) They gained a little weight but still generally were under 2,200 lbs Great video too!
These are fantastic to see in action during the Goodwood Revival event. They give Cobras a run for their money. Just search goodwood revival TVR to find videos of previous battles.
Great car. I think stock it was a 260 V8. At least mine was. Even so it was brutally fast. It easily outran everything I ever encountered. Rear were a little small with wire wheels. A 289 is the bomb though.
This car weighs 2100 pounds (probably less considering it is a race car), is small as hell and has 400hp... let that sink in how quick this thing probably is.
TVR gets such a bad reputation from people that dont understand them. they are supposed to be dangerous and fast there amazing machines that age very well. and are still competitive due to there weight being around 2400 pounds or less. Newer cars are getting heavier which takes away the driving experience and connection with the road.
I agree newer cars keep getting heavier and less tossable. My ALFA 4c weighs a bit less than this TVR and has great power and handling and very tossable. Not many cars like this anymore....Lotus Exige....Renault A110. TVR is a cool car...friend has 200 version but modded 289 engine.
Guy I know has one of these as street car. Came with Ford V8...sort of a Cobra competitor. Like the Sunbeam Tiger I suspect getting power to ground is a challenge. All that weight on the front would make it tricky handling.
Superior independent wide based A-arm rear suspension makes the rear behave and the front engine pulley a couple inches BEHIND the front axle line greatly improves the difference between a Griffith/Tuscan and a Tiger. The comparison with these is much closer to a Cobra.
That launch caught me off guard, didn’t expect it to scream or haul ass like that. Thanks for the upload!
Reading this before ive seen it and now im all excited
Holy hell that didn't disappoint
Thank you for watching!
That was the sweetest sounding thing i've heard for a long time
A fine tuned 289 sounds really good.
When I read TVR, I automatically remember the Cerberus and Tuscan Speed models in Gran Turismo 2, they had amazing design.
Cerbera. 😉
For me, the only thing that springs to mind is the Griffith 500. Feisty little thing it is.
Wow, that is one pissed off sounding Ford small block, what a blast it must be to pilot that little beast.....

Possibly the sweetest sounding engine tune I ever heard. Truly amazing.
Wow. This is one powerful car. Looks absolutely stunning. 👍
SHIIIIIIIIIT
What a car! So original, beautiful and insanely fast! What a sound!
I love her!
Thanks!
Soft spot. For me it’s hot blooded slut!
Beautiful and Fantastic! TVR Forever! Bring on the new Griffith!
Ford Power💪 They made some badass engines back then
They still do
Still do. The 4.6 4-valve makes a similar sound but a bit smoother, the Trinity 5.8 in the GT500 Super Snake sounds incredible, the 5.4 is pure violence, and both of the 5.2s are ear breakers with a good exhaust.
Such a cool car, great sound too!
That's a proper carb set up !
One of my favorite v8's. Also in the shelby gt350 of old
Thanks Bozzy for all this videos.
This car sounds so good!
I've always had a soft spot for these aswell. You just don't expect this tiny car to sound so mean and be this fast.

It's a 400.
The dreamcar of mine!
Than you for making this video! ;)
Ab absolute dream to me! Love the early (and later) TVRs!
Saw one of these in another video (on a track), didn't know what is was.
Now I do. Thank you.
Man, that engine has a snarl that is very BMW S65-like! Fabulous growl, cool car and lovely 60’s styling!!
Boy, how you hit my soft spot. Great work!
The Sound of the Mustang Engine ❤
It's a Griffith 400, the later version of the Griffith 200. It also has a 289 engine.
That sound is music 🎶
That is one happy little coupe.
Muach, perfect combination, fierce engine, small body, fierce voice
A tiny little British sports car with a great big American V8 shoved under the bonnet, and yet it seems to handle just fine. Go figure!
Love TVR.. had 7, my last 2 were both rare SEACs.. a 420 and 450. Much missed I might add..
waynester71 you never owned any thing like that.. lol

Adrenalina & Velocidade na Medida Certa .
Man, that sound!!
My dream car ❤
Damn... that's the best kind of surprise.
love this car! good video! Any chance you know what is the difference between Griffith 200 and Griffith 400?
Martin-Kalev Kingi About two hundred. Lol

Beautifoul car.
Aaaaand THAT is why i have a TVR
Just awesome!
With that drivetrain you couldn't make the car any shorter.
Great car. I think stock it was a 260 V8. At least mine was. Even so it was brutally fast. It easily outran everything I ever encountered. Rear were a little small with wire wheels. A 289 is the bomb though.
Nada como um motor v8 em um carro leve!!
Eargasm.
This car weighs 2100 pounds (probably less considering it is a race car), is small as hell and has 400hp... let that sink in how quick this thing probably is.
Not 400hp.
Yeah not stock. This specific one has been modified to do so.
Just imagine if TVR made a continuation car of this just like Superformance (sp) does of the GT 40 & the Cobra. Oh my
wow, that thing is set up so nice it doesn't even sound like an american engine
that's a series 400 the 200 had a small back window.
TVR. Enough said....
What is the camshaft specs???
Where can I buy a TVR Griffith 200 or 400?
A Ture British grate what a car
Bozzy sei a Monza questo weekend?ciaoo
Ciao Fabrizio, no niente Monza
TVR gets such a bad reputation from people that dont understand them. they are supposed to be dangerous and fast there amazing machines that age very well. and are still competitive due to there weight being around 2400 pounds or less. "they are supposed to be dangerous and fast " Tbh I thought that was the official company position back in the day ;-)
I agree newer cars keep getting heavier and less tossable. My ALFA 4c weighs a bit less than this TVR and has great power and handling and very tossable. Not many cars like this anymore....Lotus Exige....Renault A110. TVR is a cool car...friend has 200 version but modded 289 engine.
@@RobertKarlBerta If you want light now you really are down to Atoms/Cats/Mono etc
Foolish people, never stand on the outside of a race track apex.Thats where the car is headed if anything goes wrong...Awesome car.
SPETTACOLO TOP
このサイズに4.7L V8エンジン。ロマンだね。
Die Pyone habe ich aber gesehen😘
The Lacia isn't to shabby, either ..
That’s a cool Miata, what body kit is it?
Guy I know has one of these as street car. Came with Ford V8...sort of a Cobra competitor. Like the Sunbeam Tiger I suspect getting power to ground is a challenge. All that weight on the front would make it tricky handling.
They are nearly mid-engined with the engine back rather far. So that must help.
And the fact that 289 V8 is such a small engine
Superior independent wide based A-arm rear suspension makes the rear behave and the front engine pulley a couple inches BEHIND the front axle line greatly improves the difference between a Griffith/Tuscan and a Tiger. The comparison with these is much closer to a Cobra.
It sure looks like a 400 to me. Not a 200.
Sure does. And is.

If only this car had a bit longer tail... the design is cool but feels a bit unbalanced
It's a TVR, they do everything they can make make it dangerous, I mean fun.
Better balance than a Cobra but certainly lively.
To use TVR Griffith and race car in the same sentence is wrong....very wrong......
people did race them so....
why's that's? its one of the quickest 60s gt cars, and usually trumps the cobras
Nonsense. ruclips.net/video/8BF3kTuq9zk/видео.html
