1963 TVR Grantura: Eye Candy

  • Gregorie Desmons has always had a sensitivity to the aesthetic elements of life, and so for him the first impulses to own classic sports cars came from the question of form rather than horsepower. Though many will argue that art following its purest definition shouldn’t be concerned with anything practical like transportation, we all know the truth to be otherwise. For the same reasons that architecture blends with sculpture, the fact that a machine can be so beautiful to look at while simultaneously providing a solution to a problem very much rooted in cold hard physics is more than enough reason to consider certain cars something far more than a means of moving ourselves around. That’s certainly how Gregorie feels about his Mark III TVR Grantura.

Wonderful ! brings back a lot of memories. In the mid 1960's my friends older brother had one of these- with a Coventry Climax engine as I recall. It was stored for a while in my Mother's garage and one short trip in it helped ignite the spark and make me a lifelong petrol head.

Have to disagree on the music. Not quite sure why they used American rock when it's a British car. Lots of great British rock from the '60s. Something like 'The Kinks - All Day and All Of The Night' would have been perfect.

In 1964, my cousin returned from Oxford to Canada with this car 1963 TVR, I never forgot that car and it started me on my way to driving and loving sports cars ever since. I think I aways saw that car as some sort of mythical object. My cousin raced that car and drove the hell out of it in Toronto for years.

In the pantheon of great British sports cars, IMHO all TVR's (as a marque) and the Griffith/Grantura (as a model) are highly underrated! What a fantastic car and as with most Petrolicious videos, it's obvious the owner Gregorie truly loves his car. Also, like many enthusiasts I can't wait until the new TVR (finally) comes out! Gregorie, thanks for sharing your awesome piece of British motoring history! Cheers mate!

There seems to be a shift towards portraying more of the owner instead of the car, same thing in the last video. Nothing against giving the owner some time to talk but would be nice to have the car, it's design and sound more in focus.

    • @ytmrg
      @ytmrg 5 лет назад +44

That's basically like telling Petrolicious to not be who they are. This is something they've been doing from day one and it's what sets them apart from the others... History of the car, the owner, how the owner became interested and ended up with the car, the owner's perspective of the car's place in history, etc... All very Petrolicious and shedding light on the ongoing relationship between man and machine.

As a teenager (with a teenager's budget) growing up in the midwestern United States I was attracted to a Triumph Spitfire as my very first car for many of the same reasons. That TVR has some stunningly beautiful lines along with more than enough soul to back up that beauty.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas
station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions- and smoke crime :-( :-(

"Every trip is an adventure in a TVR". Yes indeed. I had a TVR S2 and while it never left me stranded, every trip was an adventure in finding and curing new rain leaks, dodgy earths and new rattles. I think the owner of every TVR is the R&D department with the number of improvements I had to make. Went like a rocket but not a go to work motor.

Ok I keep watching this video as I do a number of Petroliscious vids. This guy should sell his art and photographs...I like his work.I like his enthusiasm..I even like his shirt...I wouldnt wear it myself but I had a similar pair of cowboy boots in the 1980s I wore.
I like his passion for the classic cars ...Its a Petroliscious hall mark to find these Car and Drivers.
This is all in my world veiw of sports cars.
Something is terribly ascew these days...so many popping chevy LS motors in every classic they can get their hands on.
Along with the mentality " if it doesnt have over 500hp its lame.
The same mentality has spread into drag racing High performance exotics to determine which is best in a 1/4 mile run. Not on a road coarse or thru a mountain pass or a proper race track...only evaluation ,they regard of value ,is 0-60.
They some how missed the styling, the mechanical intricacies,
the design teams solutions to light weight strength...just to me, the ham fisted mentality has completely taken over the sophistication of the Sports Car.
Surely the illigally stolen wealth of the middle eastern countries that flood London in the 2 weeks of holidays the 27 year olds fly in their five or six exotics each To race thru the streets like they do in Dubai .Blatantly spending the family dollars ,like water on a Miami Lawn.
The "Selfies " are the biggest thrill!
Petroliscious is like a laser , cutting thru this "Simple minded mentality"FOG.......Thank The Sports Car Gods !!!
