If you've been wondering what to do with all those leftover fabric scraps and random fabric in your stash, this is the perfect project for you. I’ll be showing you the process I follow to make my scrap blocks/quilt - a fantastic way to use up those random fabrics that have been piling up in your stash as well as your mount scrapmore! I find making scrap blocks incredibly satisfying and the creative diversity of scrap quilt making brings me a lot of joy. Hi Karla, I love the colors and patterns of your quilt and the scrappy patchwork designs. I made a portable design board that you might like to make also. It's just a big piece of cardboard tsken from a big box flattened out from an Amazon order. Cover it with a piece of flannel fabric that your quilt blocks will stick to. Clip it to two skirt hangers and it can hang on your curtain rod or any other place that's handy. And it's portable. It helps with quilt designing. 😀
@@NellieChristopher I really love this idea cos the cardboard could be folded to fit in a cupboard! I have a really small sewing area so space saving ideas like this are really useful ❤️ thank you xx and I’m glad you like the quilt ☺️
For whatever reason, I simply love that splash of red you have so randomly added. It looks wonderful. First time viewer here but I will be back many times more.
Hi Karla! You did a beautiful job on this quilt, all made from scrapes! Love the colors! You also cracked us up! TY! Great video with our morning coffee. Hope your having a great weekend! Congrats on the views on this video!
what a beautiful quilt full of love,, i live in texas with a lot of over 100F days so i no longer use batting and just sew the top to fleece and they turn out so good,, also im fat and double knee replacement and cant squat or get on the floor so i use my bed to stage the fabrics then if my husband is gone i sneak out the step ladder and have a look at up high (i am not supposed to be on step ladders lol) you have do what works for you, again thank you for a great video
@@txsunshinecowgirl thank you so much! ❤️ that’s a great idea with the fleece instead of batting. I’m in Western Australia and more often warm here than it is cold, so I might need to try the fleece method too! Omg why don’t I think of the bed to stage the blocks! Genius! Way easier than the floor! Hope you’re knee gets better soon x thank you for watching xx 🙏
Hello Karla, thank you for a video that is equal parts educational and entertaining! As i sit here quilting in my pajamas, I am using my design wall which is just a plastic tablecloth with the top tacked to the wall. The bottom side usually have a fuzzy cotton surface meant to help it stay in place on a table but it is a FANTASTIC design wall too!
Aww thank you for your kind words and great idea with the tablecloth! that is genius! i might need to take over a wall somewhere in the house to give this a go! love that you also quilt in your pajamas'! thanks for watching :)
The tablecloth thing works well. No spare walls but wardrobe has sliding doors so added a curtain rod above and rod pocket to tablecloth. Clips out of the way when wardrobe access needed. Also saw someone who cannibalised a roller blind to make a roll-away design wall. She pulled the blind all the way down and attached the tablecloth with fuzzy side out. Use to design and roll up to tidy away with pieces still attached. Pretty genius idea!
I used to make quilts just from squares for the front and a sheet for the backing and I tied them. I have since started making them the traditional way. But anyway, I always folded the edges over to the front. I didn't know anything about binding, etc. Folding over is a perfectly acceptable way of finishing the edges.
i can certainly make a video on this - i'll come back and let you know when i do. I'm working on another stash buster quilt at the moment so will do the same technique to show you :)
You popped up on my feed & yea!!! Really enjoyed your tutorial & I didn’t realize one could make a quilt top without wearing pajamas! What a great gift for your sis! We’ve a family tradition that if you have a new home you get an ugly chicken…
so glad you enjoyed it! hahaha pajama quilting should become a 'thing' :) oh i love this idea - my sister loves chickens (hence the central chicken patch on this quilt - which i failed to even talk about in the video - whoops!)
I agree, scrappy quilting is much more fun that sewing same thing over and over again. Also, personally I believe the finished project is more beautiful. I just don't want to finish a quilt and have it look like it came from Target!
@@peggyfanning9258 totally agree!!!! Thanks for saying this, as part of me feels like I should make a ‘pattern’ for my next quilt instead of scrappy quilting - but I really do enjoy scrappy quilting so much! Thanks for watching xx
I have just come across your channel. It is beautiful. Well done. Even your cat agrees. I was going to just suggest that I would quilt the binding too, but not too tightly. When the quilt is washed it may become loose and floopy and so a few stitches here and there to secure it would go a long way to ensure longevity. It is beautiful that your sister loves it. Another suggestion is to stagger your blocks during cutting especially if they are the same. Putting the same blocks on top of each other creates bulk where the seams are. Staggering them, even for (say) half an inch reduces the bulk and ensures that the rotary cutter can cut through evenly. Thank you very much for sharing your project.

Helpful hint here...when you lay out the design on the floor, do it on top of a sheet. If you have to stop, you can roll it up until the next session.
